"A hat?" Kat said "What is that about?" it seemed so strange that a hat was in a stool, and in the center of a space, "Oh, my god, are we supposed to wear the hat and be in the center of that room??" she thought, she didn't like to have many people looking at her, and especially not when they're suppose to name which house they'll get into, "I don't deal great with that kind of attention" she said, but somehow she was not nervous, however she had a weird feeling.

Kat went over and made herself some room in the line, waiting for any professor's intructions, because the large man wasn't around anymore, instead there was a woman coming right towards them, she seemed like a professor, or so she thought, and she looked so serious, Kat wondered what subject would she be teaching.

Harry stared at the girl who had practically asked for a test. "She probably does want to be in Ravenclaw. Maybe we get to fight the hat?" he asked. He doubted it, because the hat looked a hundred years old. "Oh, I hope we don't have to go in alphabetical order, cause then I'd be far away." he added.

Teagan was upset. She was in the middle of the line. She had to wait for all those people. She heard what Harry said, and replied "I hope we do go in alphabetical order, cause then I'll be nearer to the front! I'm so excited!" She jumped up and down a couple times.

Kat stood in the line listening to her friends comments, "Fight the hat? That would be fun" she said, thinking how odd it would be, "Well, If it's in order I'll be one of the last ones, my last name is Thomas" continued.

She stared at the professor, who was now closer to where they were standing, "She looks like a professor you don't mess with" she said to Tea, in a lower tone so the professor wouldn't hear.

"Yeah, then we don't have to listen to her." he replied. To Liam's question about him being smart, he answered, "Well, just don't act too smart, or you'll be in Ravenclaw! Ugh, this is getting boring." He was starting to forget about his nervousness some. After all, his mum had gotten into Gryffindor, and so had his whole dad's family. But Sirius's family had all been in Slytherin, and he ended up a Gryffindor. Was it possible the other way around? He hoped not.

"Oh, that's too bad." Tea replied to Kat's comment on her last name. "Mine is Breslin, so I'd be near the front! Hopefully there wouldn't be too many A's, though." she said thoughtfully. She hoped something would happen soon; she just couldn't stand it here. It was so tantalizing!

Neville listened to the conversation around him, too shy and too nervous to join in. He just wanted to get the sorting over with so he knew what house he would be in. Finally, the professor stood up and began calling people up to do the sorting.

"Weasley, Ron" The professor called him to the head of the pack. He sat down and placed the hat over his head.

"Weasley eh?" it whispered. "I know where to put you...GRYFFINDOR!"

Ron grinned, and stood, walking towards the table.

Kat watched as many of her friends were getting sorted to Gryffindor, "I hope I get there too" she thought.

"Thomas, Katherine" she heard, so as quick as her friends she jumped in where the stool was, she slowly sat and put the hat in her head, as soon as she did that she started to hear something but couldn't identify the words, "I must be going crazy" she thought, then someone replied back "Oh, no, not crazy", for a second she thought that it was the hat who was talking to her, but that was put to an end when she heard "GRYFFINDOR!" and applauses kept coming from the table her friends where at.

"Great! Mind if I seat next to you Hermione?" she said, and suddenly took a seat in the Gryffindor table as well, "Yay Neville! We're almost all in Gryffindor!" and smiled at him, she couldn't be happier.

Ron sat over by his brothers, Fred and George, and Neville and Hermione were also there.

He grinned.

"Looks like we're all in Gryffindor, I'll have to write back, Mum would have gone mad if I wasn't!"

"Okay," Neville said. He got up and moved to sit next to Hermione.

Neville smiled at Kat. "I'm really glad we're all in the same house," he said, then turned to watch the rest of the sorting.

“Black, William!” Liam heard the professor call his full name. With a deep breath, he stepped up to the stool and sat down. The stern professor placed the hat on his head, and Liam looked up, trying to see the hat, but he couldn’t. It was actually on his head. Ah, a Black, Liam heard a voice say, You can go with the other Blacks… Liam froze. It was going to put him in Slytherin. “No, I don’t want to be a Slytherin,” he whispered fervently. The hat fell silent, then said, Oh, you’re that one’s son. I did not realize… Liam half-smiled. “I want to be like my dad,” he added in a whisper. He hoped the hat would think he had what it took to be a Gryffindor. You’re certainly bold enough, the hat murmured in his head, you’ll go in GRYFFINDOR!” Liam let out a sigh of relief as he handed the hat to the stern professor and hurried to the Gryffindor table. He sat down by the other first years who were there and waited for Harry to be sorted.

“Malfoy, Draco!” Draco loped up to the stool and sat down. The hat only sat on his head for a few brief seconds before it shouted for all to hear, “Slytherin!” Draco took the hat off with a smirk and strolled over to the Slytherin table, where he sat down next to Crabbe and Goyle.

"Potter, Harry!" Harry heard the woman call. He walked up to the stool, sat down, and put the hat on. Liam had already been sorted into Gryffindor, so he had to be sorted there. 'Gryffindor, Gryffindor, Gryffindor!' he thought. Then, strange as it was, he heard a voice. The hat was speaking to him! 'Gryffindor, eh? Where your father and mother went? Well, that's a perfect fit!' it replied. Harry hoped sincerely that the hat wasn't speaking to everyone in the room. "GRYFFINDOR!" it shouted out now. He ran as fast as he could towards the Gryffindor table, and sat down next to Liam. He hi-fived his best friend, and laughed at their previous nervousness.

"Breslin, Teagan!" she shouted. Teagan hurried up to the stool and sat down. Holding her breath, she stopped thinking about which house she wanted and started thinking about the hat. It was really old, and it slipped down over her head. It smelled kind of funny, too. Like it was really old. The hat was very surprised that she wasn't thinking about which house she wanted, so he said, "You're a strange little girl, I think I'll put you in... in... in...." He seemed to have trouble making up his mind. "Oh, whatever." he said. "GRYFFINDOR!" he yelled out. She shook her head, having completely forgotten what she was doing, and ran over to the Gryffindor table, only having to run back because she'd forgotten to take off the hat. She sat down near some
