I finally have a place that I can discuss this theory. I was wondering what everyone else thought about it. When I was reading HBP a second time, I got to wondering why Dumbledore trusts Snape so much. Then I started to wonder whether Dumbledore and Snape have some kind of Unbreakable Vow themselves, like along the lines of Snape not returning to loyally serve Voldemort. Just a thought! | |

Might this be why Severus gets so mad at Harry, when he calls him a coward? It doesn´t necessarily need to be a vow, though. What if Dumbledore had saved Snape´s life and he owed him for that? Dumbledore has told us that very strong bound comes between wizards when the other one saves the other´s life. It was mentioned at least when it turned out that James had saved Severus´s life and when Harry saved Wormtail´s life.
I like this life saving theory myself. Killing a man who has saved your life must be a hard task to anyone (except maybe to Voldie and some others). There might be some ancient magic involved in it so that even if Snape hasn´t broken the Unbreakable, the things don´t look too good for him

Snape, I believe, gets so angry at Harry when he calls him a coward because Harry does not have all the facts and he rushes to make a judgement (although who wouldn't in his situation!). If there are two Unbreakables in play, one for the good side and the other for the bad, then it is bound to backfire sometime. If there is an Unbreakable Vow between Snape and Dumbledore, then I'm not sure that "protect Dumbledore" would be it. I believe it would be to be loyal to Dumbledore and not serve Voldemort loyally. That way, if and when the time comes that Snape would have to make a decision like he did in HBP (kill Dumbledore or not), he could still make it out alive by killing him and acting like he's with the Dark Side and not breaking his vow with Narcissa. Hmmm....it is quite possible. I know that there must be some ancient magic involved in a person's debt to someone who saves his/her life. Otherwise snape wouldn't have saved Harry's life in SS/PS. I like the saving Snape's life theory very much. The other makes sense as well. I would like to think though that Snape would chose to help Dumbledore rather than be forced to with an Unbreakable Vow. I would love to think that Snape and Dumbledore pulled the wool over everyones eyes with an illusion or something but we all know that Dumbledore is gone. Maybe he will still get to communicate with the others through his Chocolate Frog card. I know that others believe that it will be through the portrait at Hogwarts but how will they get to see it if they don't go back to school. Snape may be in hiding and not be able to get to the school and that would be a way that Dumbledore could keep in touch with him.. | |
