Default Shrunken Head Bowling Alley

Situated on the South Side of the Street you can find a rather hip spot: the Shrunken Head Bowling Alley. You heard that right: shrunken heads. There are no muggle bowling balls here. The shrunken heads have opinions and aren't shy to taunt and tell you if you are rubbish. Be aware too that the bowling pins have a tendency to suddenly disappear, move or reappear when you least want them to. Whether you're part of one of the leagues or if you're a social player, come on in: this is the perfect place to kick back with your mates and have a laugh.

The first thing you notice upon entering the bowling alley is the flashing banner right above the counter indicating that this is where the most important person of this establishment is and where you should go first. The counter has the perfect spot, overseeing all the other areas of the bowling alley, so don't try to sneak your way past. A little further down the counter, you can find the Snack Bar, should you feel hungry. It is also overseen by the shopkeeper, which is why the two are directly connected to each other so they can easily offer assistance at both in just a few steps.

Beyond the counter and snack bar awaits the bowling lanes, divided up into three sectors: One to Four, Five to Eight and Nine to Twelve. Even from here you can hear distinct shouts from one of the bowling balls, telling whoever just threw it what a terrible player they are and that they are probably better off going home and knitting a pair of nice woolen socks. Should you not be that much into bowling, make sure to check out the Gaming Corner slightly to the left of the bowling lanes. A small variety of games have been set up, providing you and your friends with an alternative to bowling.

The Minister got a friendly nod in return, though internally Ronan wondered where he got his ideas for orientation. At least it was less of a family thing this time.....?

His second teammate was a familiar face in the form of another fellow MLEer. "Hey, Ava," he replied. "Nice holiday?" They were soon joined by a older witch who seemed to feel like he did about the greasiness of the food. "Eh, I'm okay at it." Not an expert or anything, but good enough to not embarrass himself.
Not really surprising if the YATI guy also chose the red shirt since he's also a Gryffindor. Why the ministry only put Gryffindor for this bowling team, she had no idea honestly but perhaps he was also a lion back in his younger years. "I did, yes." Even though Ava only spent her time mostly with her family back in Cornwall for Christmas but it was enough, mostly because she had been really busy catching up with her YATI year. "How about you?"

Oh looks like more people joined the red team (those are her RPer couldn't really recognize lmao excuse her), including her former head of house aka. Mr. Flamsteed. Yes, hello there sir!

Perhaps a change in routine was their ideal way of kicking off the new year. He had no complaints.

Inside the bowling alley, his instinct made him look for his girlfriend first. That was his priority for the day. He hoped he wouldn't miss the opportunity to join in the mingling. He still was a bit hesitant about possibly joining the game. This wasn't his event, and he preferred being a mere spectator. He'd cheer on his girlfriend instead. Once he'd found Ava in the crowd, he slipped his arm around her waist and quickly kissed the side of her head. "Hey, there. I hope I wasn't too late," he said. Then he looked at her companions (Emilia and Ronan), and Reed assumed they were her colleagues from the auror office. "Hello to you both, as well," the twenty-six year old greeted them with a polite smile too.
"Hi, Honey." Ava couldn't help but blushed as her boyfriend casually slipped his hand on her waist and kissed her temple. If this wasn't a professional environment, the 22 year-old wouldn't mind to give him a big smooch on lips. For now, a cheek kiss was enough because people were watching, including her former professors. "Thank you for coming, by the way." It means very much for her, honestly. Not that she's comparing Reed with her ex-boyfriend boy as far as Ava remembered, there was no single time that Phillip accompanied her for a gathering event like like. "Oh, by the way these are my co-workers." Grinning, she introduced Reed to Emilia and Ronan. "Guys, this is Reed." Her boyfriend, EEEPP!!

Not.

But Olly would have to play along, seeing as this was part of their shared Ministry orientation. At least they could come here dressed casually, no need for any type of fancy clothes in a bowling alley, right? Still, not exactly her idea of fun though but nonetheless she was here. And she expected NOTHING LESS from her employees. Speaking of...they were all here, weren't they?

Sending a polite smile in the general direction of the Minister, Olly quickly slipped past him (before he could engage her in any type of chitchat) and grabbed a pair of bowling shoes and the most neutral colored shirt she could find, i.e. the one for the Spareialis Revelio team. Beautiful. After bending down to put on her bowling shoes first, Olly then stood upright and...looked for any and all sort of excuse to not put on that shirt right away. Maybe one of her-

-ah, yes, she'd been meaning to speak with Lucy anyway.

Grey shirt still in hand, Olly quickly made her way over to her employee, a genuine smile on her lips. "Lucille, hello." Not really in the mood to bowl just yet either? "How was your winter break?" While waiting for an answer, she leaned against the table Lucy was sitting at a little and briefly glanced around the bowling alley again.

Hello, Mariana, we see you.

The Chinese man couldn't really spot any other people in grey shirt aside of the younger girl (Regina), huh. This wasn't really a good team composition, his inner HR brain was speaking. Perhaps more people would join their team or worst case scenario, two of them would join others' team. Not that he would mind.

Ah look, there was another woman (Olly) having a grey shirt on her hand. She seemed still busy talking to her colleagues and Shang Wu wouldn't bother them in the middle of conversation. It was rude, and being rude wasn't in his dictionary. Instead, the new HR officer just waited for a right moment. For the Record, he's not that good in bowling even though he's a muggleborn and worked in muggle environment. He was just this basic yappie* who preferred golf and tennis.

"Thank you, sir." Shang Wu politely nodded. He also was looking forward to work with the ministry team and had a good hope with them. He had several ideas to improve the quality of ministry employers and some of them were adapted from his old workplace, but let's just not talk about it right here right now, eh? "Right, and polka-dotted really suits you, sir."

Hearing his name, Conley wished the young ladies luck bowling and excused himself from Mai and Louise. As he turned, he noticed the Minister giving him the eye. He gave the man a big smile and a hearty wave, while inside his heart thumped perhaps just a little too nervously. Perhaps it was a good thing that Conley had come to this function alone.

He had been a bit surprised to be summoned by Airey as they did not have much reason to spend time together. Conley assumed that part of the summons was due to the fact that they were both wearing the red bowling shirts.. ”Greetings,” Conley said as he approached. Airey appeared to be a rather popular person. There were quite a few people hanging around this set of lanes.

Conley sat down. Was it his imagination or did something smell like disinfectant? His eyes were drawn to the man standing nearby with his arms out as if he was giving a blessing. Right – now he remembered Airey was a bit of a … germaphobe – or so he had been warned when he started at the ministry. ”Bowl much?” Conley asked when Airey was done greeting people. He expected the answer to be ‘no’ as he could not see the DOM head willingly stick his fingers into balls or get a bit of oil residue on him from the lanes. . In fact, Conley was suddenly a wee bit worried that Airy would spend most of the day disinfecting the shrunken heads.

Slipping off his canvas oxfords he tucked them under the bench and slipped into his personal bowling shoes. Yep, he was rather glad he had stopped home for them because looking around at some of his coworker’s feet, the alley shoes looked a bit dodgy, not to mention uncomfortable.

No, no this wasn't how she wanted to be now. She had a nice outfit on, but one that went well with bowling and she didn't care if anyone looked at her.

Her eyes scanning the area, she saw him in front of her and headed that way. "Adam" getting his attention so she wouldn't scare him as she let her hand rest on his arm, "You weren't waiting long were you?" She had hoped he wasn't at least. "It is really busy in here tonight, the ministry has a lot of employees." She knew it was big, but having all in one building became overly aware of how big.

Adam’s head swiveled towards the sound of his name. As she moved close, he could smell the faint scent of something vaguely familiar - perhaps a hair product or perfume, he wasn’t quite sure what it was. He smiled as he felt her hand rest on his forearm. ”Nien,” he said answering her question. ”Not long,” he placed his hand over hers, giving it a welcoming squeeze. ”I’m glad vou could come.”

He was just about to address her comment about how many people were here when –

Lovely of you to bring your daughter to the function," he smiled BROADLY. He hadn't even known that Adam had married! This was a problem that did occasionally arise with Unspeakable records but no matter. "What color will it be then?" he asked as his hands waved over the t-shirt options. [..]

Adam turned a deep deep red that spread from his cheeks to the tips of his ears. How did one even respond to that?! He didn’t look that old did he? Sure he’d had a couple of rough years, what with the star explosion and then the Encephalons take-over, but really? Maybe he did look that bad, but it wasn't exactly like he could pull out a pocket mirror and check now could he?

Then another thought occurred to him. Maybe Zita just looked that young? He knew she was quite a bit younger than him, but he hadn’t thought that really mattered. He just hoped Zita wouldn’t take offense and run off, never to speak to him again.

If their first date had gone well, their second – whatever this was - wasn’t looking to good at the moment. Perhaps it had been a mistake to ask her to come.

He took a moment to fold up his support cane and tuck it into his back pocket by his raspberry wood wand. It gave him a chance to compose himself before saying something he might regret later. If he hadn’t flushed, he might have pretended to not understand what the minister was saying. Sometimes it was handy to be an ESL person. Alas, the heat in his cheeks warned him that wasn’t an option. ”Not mein daughter,” he said simply trying to put on a smile and keep his voice friendly. No use in insulting the boss, even if said boss had been a bit presumptuous. ”Minister, zhis is mein friend Sita.”

As for what shirts they wanted, well, he couldn’t exactly see the color options. He turned towards Zita. ”Vou pick.”

Sterilizing is bowling shoes, of course. Naturally, Airey Flamsteed had debated simply purchasing himself a pair of shoes as it would guarantee that he wouldn't catch some deadly foot disease but it seemed entirely impractical to own a pair of shoes he was only likely to wear once and then again on raaaaaaaaaaare occasions. It was his daughter who had talked him out of the purchase, actually.

His bowling shoes now a reflective surface, Airey tugged down on his red team shirt with a mighty chuckle and strolled towards the lanes like it was no big deal. Him. In a red shirt. He sincerely hoped that those he taught at Hogwarts who were among the participants this evening appreciated the tongue-in-cheek humor.

"Ah, Mr. Carter. Good to see you again," he greeted the young man with a chipper grin as he sized up the ...... heads. Sweet solstice. There was no surprise that Miss Burton had selected a red shirt as well. And then he quickly averted his eyes because there was PDA going on between his former pupil and that young man [Kimothy]. Abort abort abort. "Oi! Conley!" he beckoned his colleague over to the lane. Saved by the appearance of another red shirt.

"Good or bad," he mused while passing behind Miss Adara. And a spoiler alert for all present, the Mysteries department head was absolutely dreadful at bowling. It was more his limbs refusing to listen to what his brain was instructing it to do. "None of us will accomplish anything by just standing around so let us all select our ... heads ... and get this show on the roll."

Ha. Dad humor at its finest right there. His appreciation for the team names this event was astronomical.

His arms went out wide - but sweet solstice do NOT hug him - to greet the young woman [Fireheart] who had just introduced herself as being new to the Ministry. "Welcome. Airey Flamsteed. Department head for Mysteries."
Grae had just bent down to secure her bowling shoes when she noticed a middle-aged man coming toward her with his arms outstretched. That was certainly a grandiose way to greet someone. Thinking that it would be a bit odd to a hug a man that she had never actually met before, Grae opted for a simple wave and brilliant smile. From his looks and voice, he seemed like an energetic, but kind, man. And his name. That sounded terribly familiar. "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Flamsteed," she said, racking her brain to where she had heard it before. Aha! Hogwarts! "I've heard so much about you from my fellow Gryffindors! I started at Hogwarts just after you had left, so the older students had loads of stories about you." She was fairly certain that he was the former Head of House, as well as the Astronomy professor. "All good ones, of course," she added with a smile. And it was true! The older Gryffindors had said that he was pretty cool.

He had considered bringing her, but that was still a mountain of feelings that Léo did not want to deal with right now.

So here he was. At a work function. Alone. Not knowing a single person. His worst nightmare. He never was really good at introducing himself at these things. Oh and he was supposed to pick a team. How would he decided which one? His anxiety was already starting to get the best of him. Maybe he should have stayed home and just waited until work. Less awkward way to make introductions.
Grae also noticed a man hovering by the t-shirts and looking a bit out of place. Maybe it was his first day at the Ministry as well. Feeling like she should make lots of connections during this orientation, Grae approached him and gave him a friendly smile. "Hello there!" She offered her hand. "I'm Grae. Grae Fairfield, Department of Transportation. It's my first day, too." Perhaps it was rude of her to just assume that it was his first day. But he hadn't talked to anyone yet, and he was looking a little lost. Hopefully it would make him feel better that he wasn't the only new employee at the bowling alley.

But still. The Minister for Magic. Such an intimidating title, even though he was obviously very friendly.

"Oh- I- um... Thank you, sir... Minister. Sir." Yeah, not the most eloquent of responses. Erm...

Maybe she should just...go...somewhere else, where she'd be less seen and had less of a chance to embarrass herself.

Going somewhere else led her over to getting a pretzel and a small butterbeer. Maybe a little bit of food would help settle her nerves and the mild headache.

Standing to the side and nibbling quietly on the pretzel, she watched people picking their teams and...not very many were picking the grey ones. Only a few others that she noticed so far had picked them up - a man (Shang Wu) who was also standing around quietly and two other women (Olly & Kat) who were talking with some people. There might've been more that she hadn't noticed, since there were a lot of people here now. Hopefully there were more.

Or, if not, hopefully they were all so good at bowling they didn't even need a lot of people. Not that Regina expected to win, but...it'd be pretty nice, right?

Maybe she should...try talking again. It felt like the pretzel was helping a little bit, or maybe it was her imagination. Either way, she took a deep breath and walked over to the man since he was the only other one who was alone.

"So...are you good at bowling?" she asked.

He did turn to give her his full attention once she reached, but only after he had finished lacing up the clown shoes. Which meant he was only looking at her for the tail end of her whinging, though he did hear the whole thing. Loud and clear. She was quite good at that. Whinging. "You should complain to the minister, I'm sure he'd take the suggestion very seriously." Did he also want coffee? Yes. Absolutely. He had been a casual coffee drinker before, but Eliora had hooked him.

Consider this karma, Dodderidge.

He also knew she would be enjoying this bowling event just as much as he would be. And quite honestly? She would be the only reason why he'd stay. So he knew to keep his teasing at a tolerable medium. He, admittedly, needed her. He had also noticed the person who would be a new employee in his department this year. Léopold, was it? Yes. That one. Though honestly, James was quite happy in this corner talking to no one else, but Eliora. Perhaps he'd come out to play later and say a quick hello. Meeting his employees in an unprofessional capacity such as this one was entirely humiliating.

And, to be fair to the establishment, if a coffee machine had been in demand it SHOULD have been added to their lists of necessity.
Karma? Oh, no. There was no such thing as karma when it came to COFFEE, JAMES DRAPER!!!!!!!!! Eliora wrapped her arms around his middle for a snuggle because she knew that things like that got under his skin and she was absolutely ready to make him uncomfortable in a public setting because they didn't have the secrecy of their offices for her to nap in his lap or on his floor. "I'm going to complain to him later. For hours. Until he apologises back for hours and I get another coffee machine for my office. I should have two. It'll be easier." Hint hint, James. There was always reason to buy the love of your life a new coffee machine.

Be a good work husband please.

As if on cue, the Minister had shouted for her and she turned to look with a grin growing on her face. Instantly, she let go of James because he hadn't managed to get her coffee in the last thirty seconds so he had been demoted to the silent treatment for ten whole seconds. Which everyone knew was difficult for Ms. Dodderidge. She hurried over to the counter, taking the coffee and also giving Charles a kiss on the cheek. "Best boss ever. I'll tell Jamesy that he has competition for my heart." And with another kiss, she had departed from the counter and was on her way back to James in his corner.

This time, she gave him a kiss on the cheek and smiled before taking a long sip of her coffee. "Didn't you know that I always get what I want, Jamesy?" Like coffee. So much coffee. "You know it's almost our one year anniversary, right?" Aw. Cuuuuuuuute.

And she was doing her best not to look too long at the greasy stains on his shirt because they were disgusting and she was really trying not to be rude.

He needed to find somewhere to put his food down so he could get this team started on their bowling. Did these people know that it was a competition?! They needed to starrrrrrrt! WHERE WAS THEIR TEAM SPIRIT?! WHY WAS NO ONE CHANTING YET?! C'MON. They needed to get on his level now please. Finding a shelf, Theophilus unloaded his foods down as he was spoken to by one of the department heads. He returned her smile and nodded. "I can bowl for you if you want. I'll find a wig. Pretend to be you. No one will know the different, love."

Acting was also a skill of his.

She had to start somewhere and while Mr. Wright wasn't in the same department as she was, Yasmina had decided that he appeared to be good company.

Besides, they were on the same bowling team.
Lucien smiled and waved his hand at the chair, "By all means, go ahead." He wasn't big on socializing, but she didn't seem too bad. "Not so into bowling with heads?"

"Certainly isn't the type of equipment I'm used to using myself. Should present an interesting challenge."

He was about to ask what lane she was going to bowl on, when another one of his employees walked up. ”Ms. Hamilton,” he said inclining his head with a smile. ”It seems you know each other?” he teased. ”I had an excellent break.” Perhaps he sounded a bit too, ah, happy. In fact, he had been rather disappointed that it had ended. ”Enjoyed some sunshine, and relaxed. I hope yours was well.”
Mai chuckled along with him. "I'm sure it makes it hard to bowl in a straight line." She looked at the heads and cringed. She couldn't help but think of how distasteful it was. You respect the dead...or you should, in her opinion at least.

Mai smiled at Louise, "Yeah, we met at the World Cup just last year." she answered even though it hadn't been directed to her. She was just excited to have someone she knew and considered a friend. Especially in the same department! Mai got lucky.

Dalton did not do these events. Dalton did not do any events, really: not one for socialising with large groups of people, he tended to avoid most things. But Guilia had asked him and as one of the only people he classed as somewhat of a friend within the workplace, so here he was.

Entering through the door and being completely overwhelmed by the amount of people already present. And it wasn't just Ministry employees - the Minister himself was there. This could possibly be worse than he thought.

Glancing at Guilia, he offered a small grimace of a smile. "Shall we get a drink?"

Guilia wasn’t the most out going and entertaining person that worked within the ministry, nor was she the first to a party. All of which, she was fine with. Except when she needed to be somewhere that should have been within her own time. Then she had to put on her big girl smile and imitate one of her sisters or cousins - with the loud, obnoxious attitudes and confidence by the million.

The only things that made this acceptable by her own standards, were the availability of alcohol, the fact there was food and Dalton. Dalton, who other than Eliora, she actively and willingly spent most of her time with.

Looking over at him, eyes slightly wider than normal at the amount of people here already, she nodded insistently. ”Si. Alcohol.” Pause. ”Definitely.” Moving closer to Dalton’s side as a someone tried to push past her to get outside, she huffed and muttered under her breath in Italian. She needed alcohol, and she needed it now.

It was a little refreshing to meet someone else who was just starting. And nice that someone was just willing to start the introductions because that's where Léopold failed in social interactions.

He turned his attention back to the first man. Oh good. Someone else who understood how awkward and anxiety filled being new could be. And just his luck. The man was in his department. "Léopold Bouchard, but you can call me Léo. And I'm starting in Magical Creatures." It would be nice to know at least one person in his department when he actually got to work. Would make the first day so much easier. He could feel his anxiety almost melting away at this point. It was easy to talk when someone else initiated the conversation. That Léopold could handle. It was starting the conversation he wasn't very good at.

If Ronan had been prone to anxiety, this would've triggered it for sure. Luckily for him and everyone else, this simply wasn't the case. Everyone just joining the team got a friendly "Hey!" from the training Auror, trying to keep it simple now since well, so many people. And yes, he was fully aware that it was because of the 'Gryffindor' aspect of the name, but still boosted his ego slightly, as he had been the first one to grab a red shirt.

Was that a bit of....tension he was sensing between the IMC Head and the Minister? There was definitely a look. Interesting.

Also, coffee? This late in the day? In this setting? Poor misguided Dodderidge.

"Hello, Grae! I'm Ronan, I work in the MLE." His face remained welcoming, but internally he was wondering if that wasn't some sort of nickname. And there was Flamsteed, just in time to keep him from asking as much. Phew. "You too, Mr. Flamsteed." And Mr. Phora, whom he was now absolutely dying to ask about that look from the Minister. He was a curious person, so sue him. But considering he was of higher rank, best not. The Aurors had enough trouble right now without him adding to it with inappropriate questions.

"Hello!" he greeted Reed. Honestly, they were very cute together. If he had a drink, he'd tip it, but alas, with the only options being butterbeer and soda, he had none.

Maybe he could sneak behind the counter......?

Briefly catching the Minister's eye in between his chatting with other employees, Kendra gave him a soft smile and lifted her hand in a return wave. Had she missed him behind the counter when she walked in amidst all the crowd and commotion? It would appear so. And she felt slightly bad, but she supposed she could catch up to him later when he wasn't quite so busy, though Muggles and portkeys weren't exactly on her mind. Rare, but it happened. That's what Accidents and Catastrophes was for.

But was bowling on her mind? Even if she wasn't really into it, she would suppose so. At least for the next hour or so. It was why she was here and Kendra could be as much a team player as the next person. And she gave Theophilius something of an amused smile as she looked him over, squinting a bit.

"Hmm, I suppose in the right light... and with the right wig..." she mused, humoring him. "But that probably defeats the purpose of the orientation. It's about fun, not winning, right?" Though, bowling wasn't exactly her idea of fun anyway. "How about if I start throwing too many gutter balls. We'll call it Plan B."

Looking around, she added, "I suppose we should choose a lane and get started then." Or did the rest of the purple shirts already have one reserved?

~~*~~

Adam’s head swiveled towards the sound of his name. As she moved close, he could smell the faint scent of something vaguely familiar - perhaps a hair product or perfume, he wasn’t quite sure what it was. He smiled as he felt her hand rest on his forearm. ”Nien,” he said answering her question. ”Not long,” he placed his hand over hers, giving it a welcoming squeeze. ”I’m glad vou could come.”

He was just about to address her comment about how many people were here when –

”Vou pick.”

Hold up.... What?

Old Man Minister was really trying to say she was Adam's daughter? Honestly, she was going to do that math in her head, but there was no way possible he could be her father, like at all. She was told he was just in his thirties. Had she been lied to? Glancing at him and then the minister still in some shock she couldn't even think at the moment, Adam wasn't old and even if he was a bit older why was it the minister's concern.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." Trying to act like the comment didn't throw her she gave a Zita smile and held onto Adam's arm a little tighter.

Giving Adam another look she smiled, "How about red, I think you would look good in red." She knew she looked good in many colors and red was one of them.

Just because he knew what the Minister would say, didn't mean that James didn't hope he wouldn't this time around. Though that was rather wishful thinking. The Minister hadn't ever taken a hint before, what would say that he would this time? Instead of saying anything, the Department Head simply held up the shirt, wearing a disingenuous grin.

Happy?

Because James wasn't.

Though evidently Eliora was. Because despite her dramatic disappointment at the lack of her favorite caffeinated beverage, she was still smug enough to embarrass him in public. Whilst James couldn't do much about the arms she had wrapped around him, he wore a very displeased look on his face. She was doing this on purpose to get a rise out of him, that much he knew. Was she still succeeding? Absolutely. That much, she knew. Surely.

Her momentary absence as she bounced off to retrieve her coffee, which the Minister had apparently provided for her, was an incredible moment which did not last for very long. He'd be lying if he said he didn't secretly enjoy her company when she did things like this, but he'd be damned if he ever admitted it out loud. Or to her, for that matter. And so instead, he wore a disgruntled look on his features when she kissed his cheek like that. "Eliora, please." He had a REPUTATION to uphold. Especially in front of his employees.

"That's a shame, you could have really learned something," though he was more than certain she wouldn't have. This was, perhaps, for the best. As she would have complained his ear off otherwise. "Did you get me a present?" He was humoring her, of course.

Hmmm. Charles brow was raised before he could stop himself as 'blending in' and observing were not two things he associated with the Magical Games & Sports head. Not that he considered Victoria to be boisterous, she had always been a pleasant happy medium as far as the Minister was concerned, so it did beg the question what was troubling her.

"Pish posh," he chuckled dismissively as he insisted by taking her hand and placing the shirt in hers. "You'll join me on the Bertie Bott's team and you'll enjoy yourself." He was already sporting his t-shirt and, if he did say so himself, it brought out that twinkle in his emerald green eyes.

Now that that was settled, and he himself would be popping out from behind the counter soon enough to bowl, his attention returned to one Shang Wu and his familiar formalities. "Could suit you as well, if you fancy," he offered casually. You wave was very much returned, Conely. Not to worry. Much. His warm eyes next settled on the nervous and adorable young woman, Miss Amstern. "Minister or sir, whichever you prefer," he assured her with a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Enjoy your evening!"

Eliora. Oooooooooooooooooooooooh Eliora. Charles had come to expect the unexpectedly expected when it came to the Accidents & Catastrophes head. It was a delight, truly. Not an ounce of sarcasm in his thoughts. "Oh my. You'll make the Minister with his shriveled widower heart blush," he chuckled right back. Though, she was joking about the James bit, yes? Would he have to summon them both into his office to discuss work conduct? Perhaps he ought to keep a closer eye on this duo as well.

.........the cheek kiss DID raise a fair few flags and yes, perhaps there should be a bit of a meeting. AHEM.

Speaking of ahems... friend? Glancing bashfully back and forth between the young woman and the Unspeakable who must be twice her age, Charles attempted to make heads and tails of the situation. So...not a young father then. It had been a bit presumptuous of the man, yes, but there had been a rise of these teen pregnancies according to the papers. "Oh, well. Pleasure to meet you as well, Sita," he smiled kindly to her. "Red is an excellent choice. Almost my selection." Gryffindor being his former house and something he took GREAT pride in - defying his bloodline always brought him great satisfaction.

Rapping his knuckles on the counter, Charles dismissed himself from his volunteering here and moved around the front. "Shall we then?" he offered while extending an arm to Victoria. "Our lane awaits."

And hopefully a few more to join the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Team as well.

************

Airey was trying to find a head that looked like it would require the least about of work to clean, but all of them looked rather unsavory. "Not one of my usual pastimes, no," he replied with a shake of the head to his colleague. "Though my sons do have a blush bowling set that they are rather fond of and I do participate in the occasional round with." Though that typically turned into more of a duel with the plush bowling pins than it did actual bowling.

This head? Nope. The lazy eye aesthetic was off putting.

"Oh, have you now?" the former Astronomy professor chuckled in response to Miss...Fairfield had it been? He had taught a few Fairfields in his day, but it was a bit presumptuous to assume they were all connected. It was a somewhat common last name, so he thought at least. "Gryffindor is a fine house, served me well during my time as a student and it was truly an honor to be able to step back through those great double doors and act as the Head of House for it." Had been quite a wild several years in that capacity. It was a bit uncanny how not uncomfortable he was compared to when he spoke to those who had been his actual pupils. Saved by being passing spaceships in the Milky Way.

"See any decent heads around here, Mr. Carter?" he inquired while peering at the shelves a bit more. They were all looking...questionable.

With a wink, Theophilus posed a few times pretending to flip the hair of the wig he was willing to wear for this game. "Lass, there's no point in bowling if you ain't playing to win." And that right there was the opinion of a professional. This professional. The real professional. Ahaha hohoho. "Plan B approved, lass." Because he expected that she would throw more than enough gutter balls and therefore he'd be able to step in.

Like a knight in shining armour.

Like a Darcy man.

That was their prime reason to be on this earth.

This lass did have a good brain on her shoulders though. He was thoroughly impressed. "You choose the lane. If you choose it, you might be lucky."

Would he have to summon them both into his office to discuss work conduct? Perhaps he ought to keep a closer eye on this duo as well.

.........the cheek kiss DID raise a fair few flags and yes, perhaps there should be a bit of a meeting. AHEM.
The snuggles with James had clearly done their job as he wasn't looking particularly pleased with her. Which had been her complete intention. And it was all that she thought about on her walk over and back from getting her coffee from Charles. "I don't think it's shrivelled, Sir. Just in need of an Eliora." Another sweet smile, before she took the coffee back over to James.

There was no Eliora nearly as happy as an Eliora with coffee and sidled up in a corner with Jamesy. Maybe an Eliora with coffee and her kids, but right now they were with the babysitter. Or.. Levi was, because Briar was off doing her own thing now that she was a legal adult. Ugh. Kids.

Please? Please what? Kiss him again? Eliora grinned and did just that. This time on both cheeks. "You don't need to beg for attention, Jamesy." But it was cute when he did. Almost as cute as when he pretended not to want the attention. What a sweetheart. Love him. Not really. But love love love. Awwwwwwwww. "I'll take you for breakfast this weekend. What did you get me?" She glanced around at the other Ministry employees and sighed. "Do we have to go bowl...? Swap your shirt. Come on my team."

She probably just wouldn't do any actual bowling as she wouldn't be able to add much to her team's score. Still, she chose one of the purple team shirts and looked for those she'd be joining.

Oh Merlin, people really were all over the place. It was difficult to tell who was on what team even with the shirts as not everyone had grouped up yet and were still mingling. But the first person she came across with a purple shirt was making himself known.

"Well, Theophilius Darcy, it appears that we're on the same team," she said with a perfectly polite smile. "And I'm sure your almost professional score will balance out my paltry occasional bowler score. Kendra Jordan-Durand," she added in way of introduction. But he probably already knew that. Everyone knew who the department heads were, didn't they? Well, if they didn't, they should. And she was doing her best not to look too long at the greasy stains on his shirt because they were disgusting and she was really trying not to be rude.

Yes! Bowling! This was his game! Well, Gobstones was Milo's game, really, but there were many parallels between gobstones and bowling for him to enjoy the strategy and gameplay of it all. Or at least that's what he told himself. He pulled on a black shirt because the pun was hilarious and because he planned on getting strikes, so the choice was obvious.

And the first person he saw in the same shirt was a woman who appeared about his age, maybe a few years younger. "Heyyy, same shirt, same team!" he said with a grin, giving her finger guns. Might as well get to know his teammates. "I'm Milo, by the way."

Black shirt in her hand, Bertie looked around for any familiar faces, finding none just yet. She should probably try to find her department head at some point, proof of life or something along those lines.
Having a cup of coffee together would've been a much better way to get to know your new colleagues, Bertie thought as she eyed the snacks and drinks. Did anyone over the age of 18 actually eat these things?

Bertie did her very best to hide a grimace when a man approached her and did finger guns. Finger guns. Really? Maybe she should've stayed in Brazil, there were far less people to bother you in the middle of a rain forest after all. Except for that dreadful Spanish boy. But, she reminded herself, this was not Brazil and everyone had to get a proper job eventually. So she nodded at the man, Milo, and extended a hand to shake. "Alberta. Same team, wonderful." At least someone seemed excited about bowling.

Perhaps it was best that they just collect their shirts and move along on their merry way. Red was fine. He didn’t care what the name was (most of the puns would be lost on him anyways), or anything else about it except that they could move along after receiving it. ”Thank you Minister,” he said politely and, since he put his support cane away, let Zita steer him away from the counter.

When they stopped, he handed Zita her shirt. ”Sorry about zhat.” He felt it necessary to say something else. ” I swear I’m not zhaht old. But perhappen, after das last couple of years I look it,” he tried to joke as he also put on a goofy smile. Maybe the joke would ease the tension. He really didn’t want Zita to leave or for this to be their last outing together. He wanted to say the minister was crazy, but there were just too many ears around here and the last thing he needed was to loose his job.

He took a moment to pull the red shirt over his head, hoping it wasn’t on backwards (he hadn’t felt a tag). His hair was now sticking up a little and his glasses had shifted. He straightened the sunglasses, then patted at his hair completely missing the part that was sticking up. ”Did you want to throw eh few heads or…find eh pinball machine?”

"Though my sons do have a blush bowling set that they are rather fond of and I do participate in the occasional round with." Though that typically turned into more of a duel with the plush bowling pins than it did actual bowling.

This head? Nope. The lazy eye aesthetic was off putting.

Conley finished with his shoes, then stood up giving his heels a little tap-tap together before stretching out his arm a little. He didn’t want to pull a muscle. He watched Airey as he walked along looking at the heads and sighed internally; it appeared his concerns were valid and he had to resist the urge to yell, ‘just pick one already.’ Instead, he latched onto the other topic of conversation. ”You’re children sound fun,” he gave the man a smile. Conley didn’t have any and had, up until recently, didn’t think that it was a possibility for him.

He picked up one head, gave it a toss in the air, caught it, and then holding it gave it a swing (he made sure to avoid the crevices. It would do, he guess. He felt eyes on him and turned, still clutching the head. ”Hello,” he offered. ”Ronan, was it?” Best to get to know people he was going to spend the afternoon with.

SPOILER!!: Charles For Victoria

Well it seemed she would be playing if Charles was offering for her to be on his team. "Alright, I'll take you up on that, but you should know I am rubbish at bowling. " She just wanted him to know that he wouldn't be winning with her on the team.

Now that she had a shirt she slipped it on not fully sure it went with her pants, but it wasn't horrible. Now, where was the rest in these shirts, should they go get started or were they just enjoying each other's company. She should go looking for her own employees and greet them.

SPOILER!!: Charles and Adam
Speaking of ahems... friend? Glancing bashfully back and forth between the young woman and the Unspeakable who must be twice her age, Charles attempted to make heads and tails of the situation. So...not a young father then. It had been a bit presumptuous of the man, yes, but there had been a rise of these teen pregnancies according to the papers. "Oh, well. "It's Zita actually and it was a pleasure to meet you, minister." Though she didn't mind it sounding more like an S when Adam said it because she found his accent rather attractive. The minister though she wasn't sure how she felt about him and now that she could vote, she'd be really possibly looking at the other candidates when an election year came up.

Moving away from him and to their spots with people in red shirts she glanced over at Adam as he spoke, "No, no, I don't think you look older at all and even if you have had some bad moments with work that was no reason to just assume as he did." She lifted her hand and touched his cheek hoping that was alright. She knew the first date was a little awkward in how you held yourself and stayed in your own space, but she felt compelled to reach up and touch his cheek at that moment. "Don't let anyone bother you, they should be praising you for sticking around after having an incident as you did." She smiled at his smile and was glad he didn't seem upset.

Though she wondered how he would bowl if he couldn't see in this building very well. Following his lead, she slipped her shirt on as well. It really did cover up her outfit, but the fact that Adam really see how good she looked made it a little easier to change into a plain t-shirt.

"Oh I don't mind either, what would you like to do?"

Adam’s heart did a little pitter pattery stop-start thing when Zita touched his face. Behind his sunglasses, his eyes closed for a moment, enjoying the warmth from her fingertips. All too soon, however, the warmth was gone. He reached up and ran a hand through his hair, messing it up even more before tugging uncomfortably at his shirt hem. He was happy she didn’t seem upset nor did she give the indication that she was going to run away, at least not yet. There was still time and a lot of his coworkers around. After all, they hadn’t run into his boss yet, and well, Airey Flamsteed was a very unique individual.

What Adam really wanted to do was to turn around and walk out of the bowling alley, maybe take Zita to a park and just enjoy some sunlight and air. But, that wasn’t what he asked her to do today. Maybe next time they went out – if there was a next time. Adam pushed the question away determined to stay in the now. ”Vell,” he said stalling for time as he considered his options. He smelled food, a sanitizer of some sort, and an odd preservation scent – perhaps formaldehyde. ”Let’s get a drink und zen find zee arcade.” He had a feeling Zita wouldn’t like having to handle the shrunken heads and this way, he wouldn’t end up accidentally throwing one at his boss.

He reached out, taking hold of Zita’s hand, and then following his nose turned left to try and find food. He trusted Zita would steer him away from anything and anyone he might walk into.

There was certainly mixed feelings going on, Zita was out of her element in a bowling alley, but she didn't mind it all that much. Adam was very sweet and in all honesty, it was the first time a guy had asked her on a second date and truthfully only the third date she had ever been on, so she couldn't help but feel a sort of way by that and now he was being such a gentlemen and holding her hand. These were things she was certainly not used to and things she would never allow herself to believe she had deserved. Certain friends words rang in her ear, but she pushed them out to enjoy the evening.

"Maybe some food." Something smelled delicious and she hadn't eaten before coming. Letting Adam lead the way she made sure he wasn't going to bump into anything, but he was a pro at this and made it with no trouble. "So you are an arcade game fan?" She wasn't, but he didn't have to know that.
