Espresso Patronum

https://i.postimg.cc/GpYkjCHw/espres...um-banner4.jpg
Located on the South side of Diagon Alley in London, past a number of other shops you notice a quaint building. It is a café in this fairly busy part of section. What makes this different from the other shops? Their logo for one, resembling a wispy stag that moves every now and then in the window, illuminating from a quite distance in the evenings. One can't help but chance a glance as they pass by.

Approaching the café you get a large sense of security as a warm haze falls over you upon entry. There were tables outside the place, where diners could have their meals and chat among themselves as well as indoors. Heading on the inside you are greeted with the sight of many Patronuses floating throughout the walls behind the other stag logos of the café. The flooring a pleasant velvet red, further emphasizing the pleasant warmth one would experience whether for a quick stop or a romantic scenery.

Floating around you see the wispy forms moving around the walls featuring creatures such as phoenixes, zebras, otters, horses and many other magical creatures. Perhaps your own will join the walls if you stay long enough? The tables are compact and decorated with candles that automatically light up keeping the darkness at bay. Along with additional small booths near the back for more privacy. The Menu illuminates right behind the counter as you approach to order. As soon as you sit, you can't help but feel as if you're right at home.

For Lisa

Summer away from classes and stressing over passing her exams was so far so good for Prim. She was just wandering through some shops and even ones she had no idea where even here before when she was in school. Like that junk shop for one.

Weird place.

The place she found herself at now. Well not so much. It was really nice and warm here which ok made sense because it was summer. But still warm. Prim was just sitting down minding her own business drinking an caramelatte debating if she should go back up and order something to eat as well.

She could try comparing the croissant to some she had back in Paris.

siriusblackliveson 12-13-2018 08:28 PM

Patrick walked into the shop. He needed a break from the sun, and needed a break from hearing his mom complain about her students. If it wasn't about how bad they wrote it was about how some of them were wizard students in for amusement. She was really disliking being well known because of her latest paper. He glanced around noticing a girl that he couldn't place and sat in the back of the room.

He glanced up at the menu hoping that he could make a decision. Everything sounded good. He just wanted to get something to drink, maybe a snack, and read his book that he had picked up and been reading with his teammates when they weren't on the field. He was ready to get back next weekend and see his teammates again they had been winning here lately.

He decided he'd get a sandwhich and some water if he could so that way he wouldn't have to bother with being up all night like his mom hated. It happened when he would drink too much coke in the evenings while watching a movie or playing video games with his friends. His grandparents didn't mind. Said it built character, his parents thought it was creating bad habits. He leaned back and opened the book to where he left off.

Over the past few weeks Nora Cresswell had become a regular at this coffee shop. How exactly that had happened she wasn't sure but she was coming here every time she was in London (and sometimes even flooed here JUST for the coffee). She didn't even stay and have a seat usually; she was just here for the coffee.

Today the place seemed to be busier than usual and she held her paper cup with both hands, trying to make sure not to spill any of that delicious Latte. Almost there. Almost at the-

OUCH!

Nora let out a few choice words in Danish as someone bumped into her side, in turn making her stumble into the nearest table. She could feel some of the coffee running over her fingers but at least she hadn't let go of the cup completely. "I'm so sorry." Nora said to the girl sitting at the table, eying her to see if she had to do some damage control.

Was she okay???

"Hey, Patrick. May I sit with you?" Daisy asked. She wasn't going to do such a thing unless she was allowed to.

If Maeve was being honest, she was actually just looking for the COOLEST new hang. Cause she was fifteen now. Well, she's been fifteen for like 6 months, but it was SUMMERTIME and that meant no early morning STUPID S.O.R.E. It meant watching Emma and Anna in the Under Seventeen be awesomely athletic strut their flying skills. It meant sunshine. No uniforms. No studying. No thinking about OWLs. Spending time getting to know her super cool aunt. Egypt for two weeks!!!

Speaking of hang. Where would a hang be without her friends? Her peeps? Anahera? Or Emma or Anna or Chase? Or Kamryn? Ah, scratch that last one, since Kamryn had to go and get a boyfriend, Maeve felt like she rarely saw the Hufflepuff.

"Patrick!!!" She grinned finally seeing someone she recognized. Oh. Wait, there was Daisy joining him. Huh. They weren't a thing, were they??? She was a fifth year - she was supposed to be up on all the latest GOSS - but apparently it changed daily! How was a girl to keep up?? Eh, she'd just play it cool. Or try, which usually ended up being awkward. Something she bonded over with Chase, come to think of it. "Hey, Daisy! Mind if I join you two?" She had like two knuts on her and didn't get anything for fear of not having enough money, but she wasn't that hungry anyway. She was just after the GOSS of the day!!! Maybe she'd have to talk with Zoryn for some advice ....

Patrick glanced up from his book, letting his thumb slide to the center and the pages closing around it. He had been entranced by the words on the page, something that typically happened as he loved books. He noticed that Daisy was standing in front of him. He wasn’t sure where he stood with her. She was very nice, but a strict rule follower and that was not something that he was always for.

Sure she had been a bit tough on the firstie on the train last term but he figured it was because she didn’t want people to run over her. He was always going to make sure people got a second chance. Today, Daisy was getting her second chance. They had some nice interactions before but that train ride couldn’t be whobshe was ALL the time.

Smiling at his classmate, “sure have a seat. How’s your summer goin’?” he took a sip of some water he had in his bottle from home and looked at her before his attention going back to Maeve one of his most interesting friends. He liked her she was always brutally honest. A bit quirky but honest. She was a big personality that was always fun. “Maeve join us!” he said knowing Daisy and her should both join them... the more friends the merrier... right?

"Thanks, Patrick," Daisy replied with a smile as she sat down. She then sighed as she ran a hand through her hair.

"My summer is going pretty well after a few days of walking on eggshells around my mother and aunt. They found out about what happened during last term and mum hoped that I didn't retaliate or get myself into any trouble whereas my aunt was a tad disappointed that I wasn't a bit more rebellious. I was upset at how the school was being run but I knew how hurt my mother would be if I got myself detention, lost my Prefect badge and got expelled."

She thought back to the train ride at the start of the last term. "I do have some regret with how I treated Josef but I'm still going to adhere to the rules but this time, I plan on being more flexible."

Prim was not expecting anything out of the ordinary when she was there sipping her caramelatte. Just people talking and walking around minding their own business and shopping considering where they are.

And now....

Well she would be laughing if had a mean bone in her body because that poor girl getting bumped and stumbled a bit, still holding onto her drink which was the impressive part and ended up by her...apparently

"Umm...its ok....are you alright? Are your hands burned?"

If Nora had been superstitious, she would have taken this as a sign to cut back on the coffee she bought from this place. Luckily (for the store), she wasn't, though. Instead, she would have to get another cup now, wouldn't she? Because this one barely had a sip left.

At least the girl seemed to be alright.

"I'm- yes. I'm fine, thank you." She looked down at her own hands when the girl mentioned them to assess the mess. "May I?" Nora assumed she was allowed to and quickly set down the cup and reached over for some of the napkins on the table. "I'm so sorry again. I didn't get any coffee on you, did I?" She asked while drying her hands.

Prim looked back at the counter to see how long the line was in case her well table mate actually wanted to make the effort to get another cup. But well at least it wasn't long like when she got here. Prim motioned it was ok for her to take a seat since she was not expecting anyone anyway.

"Please"

Prim shook her head.

"Oh no nothing got on me thank circe but i can't believe they didn't even apologize to you"

Join us. Okay that was code for 'we're not on a date' at least in Maeve's mindset. She grinned at them both overhearing Daisy talking about retaliation and Josef and oh wait, Daisy was a prefect! How'd she nearly forget that? Probably cause she hadn't crossed paths with the slightly older girl that often.

Wait. This wasn't some sort of informal gathering to talk leadership cause suddenly she felt insecure. Hmm.... perhaps she could change tide of the conversation with her presence?

"I don't think the rules count anymore since the old regime got removed at the feast. Personally I won't be sorry to see morning SORE routine go!" She was not a fan and would say so until her graduation day. "But enough Hogwarts! I don't wanna think about that place or exams or classes or .." she trailed off not wanting to mention that O word that pertained to fifth years. "Its summer! Any exciting plans? Or have you already done something fun?"

When Maeve mentioned that rules might not be as strict as they were when Scrimgeour was Headmaster the previous term, Daisy nodded. "I certainly hope so. I wonder who will be teaching Charms. I got on well with Professor Marchand and it is sad that he had to step down from his position."

Daisy took a sip of her coffee as she thought about what she was going to do for summer. Patrick smiled wondering what made Maeve stop deadbin her tracks for a moment. He wondered if she though this was some meeting of the leadership minds. Which it wasn’t honestly Patrick hated talking school—aside from quidditch, outside of school. And just as quick as Maeve had looked alarmed she was back to asking questions. “Oh just playing baseball and some quidditch here and there back in the states. You two?”

He hadn’t thought much about who would be coming into the school since the whole regime had basically been let go. And most of the new professors were likely going to leave too. It was a weird dynamic. If he was honest his whole experience at Hogwarts was weird. He nodded his head at Daisy, “im glad to hear that I’m sure it’s been difficult,” he was glad he had been off studying in the library when he attack happened. “What about you Maeve? Any big plans for the summer?” he smiled at her enjoying the sass that she usually added to the conversation.

Oh. Maeve forgot about that. New Head of House. The fifth year bit her lip thoughtfully, "hopefully someone just as brave and kindhearted. Who you reckon might be my new Head of House? Actually, Anna might know." Girl being Captain and all... wait, did Captains have communication with their Heads of Houses or just the flying professor?

Wait. Daisy too on the quidditch train!?!? Why was Hogwarts so obsessed with quidditch?? Didn't they have any other hobbies??

"Me? I'm ... I'm mostly just enjoying the no classes and regulations. My aunt .... you know, Professor Sabra... she's taking me on a trip to Egypt next week. So that'll be fun. And I'll probably swing by St Mungos too." She wondered vaguely if she should let Patrick and Daisy in on the information her Aunt told her when she arrived home or wait. Eh, probably wait. They didn't need to know. Also, sass, who her? Neverrrr ;)

What had happened to the cafe with coloured umbrellas? Celandine had always liked going there best of all during her Diagon Alley shopping sprees, especially as an adult, and especially with her two beautiful big girls in tow. No matter though! A new tradition maybe? Though she much preferred the bright umbrellas to the wispy velvet of this place.

"Espresso Patronum! Isn't that clever? Where do you girls want to sit? Outside? Lets sit outside in the sun! Its too nice a day to hide away indoors, don't you think, Chloworm? Charbear I wish you would take that silly jumper off, its far too hot, you'll overheat, its not good for the b--"

"--I get it, mum!" Charlotte hugged herself, quite intent on keeping the oversized Kenmare Kestrels (Whittebrook of course) hoodie on despite the summer sun. She was already using cooling charms and it was nobody's business. Why did everyone think it was their business about if she was too hot or too cold or anything else? Besides, she was wearing stretchy short shorts that kept her plenty cool.

Char was glad to let her shopping bags drop to the ground, half-stuffed under the table where nosy people couldn't read the bags' labels. She adjusted her oversized sunglasses and hoped that they would keep her incognito. She'd not been carrying her bags, of course, but she had insisted on levitating them. She could still do that at least.

"What would you girls like to eat? No coffee, Charlotte, remember." Celandine beamed at both of her daughters and patted one of the chairs for Chloe to sit down too. It was much easier to ignore the little grumps that Char had been getting herself in. Just gloss over it! She'd come right, Celandine was sure. It was an exciting time and she wouldn't let her eldest daughter put a damper on their nice day out when there was so much to celebrate! Especially because she was so proud of Chloe and it wouldn't be all that long until her youngest daughter would be off to Hogwarts again!

Kaira walked into the coffee shop. Her sister was busy with some Ministry work, and had asked her to wait there till she came back. She sat in a corner and fiddled with the menu card. Hmm..lots of different types of coffee. Kaira loved coffee.

Kaira!

Yawn...

Stella was tired, she wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep and sleep for a couple of hours. She wasn't a morning person, she hated getting up early especially during the summer time. Her parents wanted to get an early start before it started getting too busy. Although she was glad she was done with shopping for her scool supplies but she was tired. Yawning walking into the shop she headed towards the counter.

Hm... what did she want? so many different choices to pick from. A French Vanilla cappuccino does sound good at the moment, maybe she should get one of those. She needed something to wake her up and get her through the rest of the day. If she didn't have something to wake her up, she knew nap time was going to be happening soon.

Ordering her French Vanilla cappuccino she waited for it to be made as she looked around for a place to sit. Biting her lip she looked around the place, it was packed and no places to sit. Her drink was finally up, she thanked the lady and seen a girl sitting by herself who looked to be her age maybe alittle younger. Walking up towards her she smiled. Um... can I sit here? Everywhere else is full." Holding her cup close to her so she didn't spill with people passing her coming and going.

A new tradition maybe? Though she much preferred the bright umbrellas to the wispy velvet of this place.

Chloe didn't have to do the middle child thing of trying to keep the peace when Char was being such a grump, since their mother was determined to maintain a good mood no matter what. It was hot, the seats stuck to the back of Chloe's legs, and her sister was in a mood, but Celandine Toussaint Kettleburn was all smiles. Chloe came by that naturally.

She squirmed a little in the hot chair, tugging down her sundress so that the fabric protected her legs against the seat. The dress maybe hadn't been a genius move, but she sort of felt like she had to start dressing like a Head Girl. At least she wasn't melting like Char.

"We don't like coffee, Mum, so we'll have hot chocolate. Cocoa for you, Char? I'll pick something we'll both like. And will you split a croissant with me? I'm sooooo hungry." She made sad puppy faces, just hoping that such a thing would make her sister smile. A little smile for a whole lot of effort. Chloe offered her hand, palm up, to her sister and smiled at her mother. "Did you help them come up with these names, Mum? They're right up your alley."

Despite everything that was bothering her, Charlotte WAS happy to spend time with her sister, and she was proud of her and everything of course, and she did feel a little bad that her situation (even if she didn't want it to) kind of took precedence over the whole Head Girl thing, when her sister getting the exact same badge that their mum had in her school days really should have been the biggest most important thing going on in their family right then.

Except it wasn't. Timing was a witch and all that.

Their mum insisted that she could be happy for all her babies equally (in those exact, cringe-making words) but Char wasn't entirely sure that her situation was a thing to be happy for yet. It was.... too big to think about, even if she was running out of time to avoid thinking about it. It was good reason enough actually to try and put all attention on Chloe, at least while she could. So the summer. And now in particular.

"If you're hungry, Chlo, why don't you get a whole one? Pick me something with cream." She paused and then added, "LOTS of cream." CREAM was fine, right? Char side eyed her mother, half-expecting her to say that was on the no-no list.

Charlotte Hannah Kettleburn hated the no-no list with a vengeance.

She noticed Chloe fussing with her dress and Char slipped her wand out of the wrist holster she still preferred to wear. "Let me." She didn't wait for an answer, instead went ahead with a nice gentle cooling charm on her sister's dress... and then after a second's thought, one on the chair itself too. Her own as well actually - that way the sticking wasn't a problem. And oh alright, mum's too.

"I didn't, but it had to have been a Ravenclaw." Celandine said, laughing lightly. And then she remembered her big girl was RAVENCLAW'S NEWEST HEAD GIRL and she got all proud and emotional all over again and reached out to tuck Chloe's hair behind her ear. Oh wait. She looked at Charlotte and added hurriedly, "Not that a Gryffindor couldn't come up with such clever puns of course!" She ignored the eye roll Char flashed her in response and instead focused on Charlotte's charmswork.

"Nicely done, thank you Plimpy." Celandine took her purse out and counted out some money, and slid it over to Chloe. "Espresso and a flatbread for me, sweetheart. You don't mind ordering for all of us do you?" Her big girl!!!! So grown up!

Kaira looked up from her menu as she heard a voice..'Why of course,' she said, as she moved her stuff to make room for the girl. The girl looked slightly taller than her, so probably a fellow first year or second year. 'You look super tired,' she said, looking concerned.'I'm Kaira by the way, first year..,' she said, hoping to make a new friend. Was this girl too tired to respond? Maybe Kaira should have just shut up and kept to herself.

Stella smiled at the girl. "Thank you so much, this place is packed." she said sitting down. Setting her stuff down she sighed in relief, ah... fianlly able to sit down and rest. Stella looked at the girl and laughed. "You could say that, my parents thought it'll be a good idea to get here before it gotten too crowded." she said rolling her eyes. She hated mornings and getting up early more then anything, she liked her sleep.

Stella looked at the girl and smiled as she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you Kaira, I'm Stella second year lion, ooh... first year are you excited?" she asked her. "My first year was interesting, hoping that this year will be better and not a military school. " she said bitterly shivering at the memories of last term.

Sangeetha 12-20-2018 06:54 PM

Kaira's eyes widened as she heard 'military school and clasped her mouth with her palms, she asked : 'Was it really THAT bad?.

'Oooh..Nice to meet you Stella..well..I am excited..but I did hear about the terror regime from you know..neighbours and all..and it's kida sapped the excitement out..that won't happen again, will it?,' she asked sincerely.

'Oh..my sister asked me to stay here and chill while she got some Ministry work done,' she said. She scanned the menu for what to order.

Neverrrr ;)

Patrick understood the curiosity he had experienced that when the puppet had come into his house as a leader. He was so stoked that Professor Kennedy was back this term. He nodded along at Maeve’s comment about Anna knowing. She did know so much about things at Hogwarts, he still wasn’t certain as to how she knew everything she did. “You’re not wrong about that.” he muttered.

He smiled big, “The lack of regulations is so nice. I’m enjoying not hearing about my shaggy hair.” Although he had been keeping it closer than he had before. He remembered her aunt. He had tried his best to do well in her class but he felt dense in that course. “Wow that sounds so awesome. I’ve never been. Mostly only traveled in the states and locally around here.” he smiled wondering what kind of information her aunt had after leaving.

If Chloe was less devoted to her mother and older sister, it would bother her that Charlotte was getting the enTIRE spotlight and that her mother couldn't even spare a compliment for one without dividing it for the other. She was secure in her uniqueness and didn't require a warm fuzzy just because Charlotte was getting one. But she wanted her own party, mmk?

"Okay. A croissant for me and something with cream for Char and an espresso and flatbread for Mum," she grabbed the money from her mother and headed off to order their food. She didn't mind, really, although it wasn't like Char's legs had broken.

Her mother was so emotional right now, wasn't she? She was calling Char by her baby name and getting all tearful and Merlin, was Char going to be like this in a few more months? Chloe returned with their food and drinks and slid back into her seat. It was still cool, thank you VERY much, Charlotte.
