Has all of your shopping worn you out and left you in need of some hydration? From the south side of Diagon Alley, the Leaky Cauldron is quite a trek, especially when the cobbled street has exploded with witches, wizards, and children alike. Do not fret, however. A crimson red cart, stationed between Janus Galloglass and Noltie's Botanical Novelties, with golden lettering spelling out 'BUTTERBEER' is here to save the day! For many years, an old witch has been taking advantage of this spot and has provided many with a refreshing sugary butterscotch concoction and even a tasty snack.
Early in the morning, the old witch rolls out her cart and remains at her usual spot until the sun goes down. For just a Galleon, you can enjoy a mug of the finest Butterbeer in London. During the summer months, one can purchase a frozen Butterbeer; whereas in the frigid winter it can be bought warm. But drinks is not all that there is to offer -- for just a handful of Sickles, some Butterbeer-flavoured fudge, potted cream, or ice cream can be enjoyed.
At first Ellie feared that she had been too forward making a comment about the other girl’s mustache. Next minute she wandered if the other girl hadn’t heard or understood her when she eyed her half drunken butterbeer. Eventually though the other girl got the gist and touched her lip and then hid it behind a napkind while she cleaned the cream mustache off. Weird, because she didn’t think it was embarrassing to wipe stuff from your face, was it?
Anyway smiling friendily she said "Maybe you could gossip about your neighbours, but i doubt it will be to those old lady’s degree. The can get very um shall we say upset about small things." Accepting the invitation to sit down Ellie beamed as she took as seat next to the other girl. "It’s nice to meet you Aoife! Is Aiofe an irish name? I’m Eleanor, but i prefer to be called Ellie. Are you here to buy Hogwarts supplies too?"
Aoife grinned. "Most of t'e arguments with my sisters are over small t'ings..." They fought, of course, epically, but always moved on quickly, and always had each other's back, so... "Might not be t'e same, t'ough."
She took another sip of her butterbeer, quietly savoring the goodness of it with a moment of reflection. Across the alley, past the throngs of shoppers, a crow was in a stand off with a squirrel over a bit of fallen popcorn. Then the crowds closed up and they were lost to sight. Aoife checked if she had another mustache, then turned back to Ellie. "Yeah, it's Irish. And Eleanor, t'at's from...I don't know where t'at's from, actually. I'm from County Galway," she added as an afterthought.
"T'is will be my first year at Hogwarts," she said, nodding. "I'll be getting my wand, next." Because that was the most important thing. The thing she'd waited five years to get since her brother got his. "What year will you be?"

"Good to see you too." Evan breathed out, turning her back to the butterbeer cart and facing the broad-shouldered Kentuckian. "What're you up to?" No one (aside from her, apparently) came to Diagon without reason.
He smiled wider when she turned around and started talking to him. It was rare that he ran into too many friends at this time of day. "Totally understandable. Oh just for a day?" He wasn't too sure if it was curiosity or disappointment. He hadn't seen anyone in weeks and was really starting to worry that he had gone and lost a girlfriend nope friend that was a girl, he never got confirmation on that. He was also worried that his other friends hated him these days as he hadn't been able to meet with them at all this summer so far.
Sighing heavily he pushed his hand in his pockets before shaking the thoughts from his head.
Letting the sun soak his skin he smiled, "I was dragged with my mom to organize her personal library. Talk about boring me to death. I had to get out so here I am." He figured he'd leave off the fact that he hadn't gotten to spend much time back in the states. And was also slightly surprised that he hadn't seen her around ever when he was in the states. They lived close enough.... right?

Grinning Ellie shook her head "Sorry I’ve got nothing to compare sister chatter with because I don’t have any sisters, just 5 brothers but i doubt it’s the same as those elder aunties chatter." They teased her all the time and fought with her, but they had her back if she was ever in a crisis or in need of some brotherly advice. Opening her new candy packet, she took one candy out that she plucked into her mouth. Sucking on the piece of cream candy savouring the taste, Ellie offered as she slid the packet towards the other girl. "Want to try one Aoife? The candy tastes like butterbeer too."
Sucking on her cream candy Ellie wondered what had gotten all of Aoife’s attention but only moment’s later she had her attention back at their little table. Shrugging she said "I don’t know where Eleanor’s from. You think it’s Irish too? But my father is from England and my mother’s from Sweden.” If she said it quickly enough it didn’t hurt as painfully as it usually did when she spoke of her mother.
"Oh wow how exciting for you Aiofe!" Ellie beamed sunnily. "I’ll be getting my new books after this." Her wand was safe in her jacket pocket. "I will be a third year, but i’m transferring from another school so I’m as new to Hogwarts as you are."
Gráinne didn’t feel the nagging need to search for Aoife when she peeled away from the family group – it was simple really. Aoife could handle herself, even if Gráinne rather liked being her sister’s defender. Still, she’d kept her eyes on Aoife as she meandered over to the local charity shop to find something fun and managed to find Aoife something perfect.
Still, now it was time to make herself known. Oh! Looooookit there was an older girl talking to her sister – maybe this girl knew about Hogwarts? MAYBE SHE WAS A STUDENT THERE? She didn’t want to come off as rude this time…she never meant to come off as rude to that stuffy old wand guy, really, she hadn’t.
Slipping closer to the pair all Gráinne did was simply collect a mug of butterbeer for herself before listening in a little bit…Ah, Ellie the girls name was Ellie. Taking a sip of her drink she just walked over and sat next to both of the girls. Maybe this Ellie would feel like she was having double vision? Maybe?
That had happened before, she didn’t mean to make their primary school teacher think he was going batty…really, she hadn’t. ”you’re a transfer?” was the first thing Gráinne asked as she took a sip of her drink. ”wh-what school did you go to? Don’t worry…you’re not going mental, I’m Aoife’s nearly-identical-twin Gráinne.” she introduced herself with what could only be descrbed as a kind smile…well, kind for her.

Mariana was finally starting to feel at home here, the summer bringing warmer weather and with it, the need for the brunette to enjoy as much time outside as she could. It's the reason she asked January to meet her here instead of at some restaurant. She didn't want to waste the chance to sit out in the sunshine with a frozen beverage. Butterbeer was like a staple here, right?
While she waited for the red head, the botanist leaned against a lamppost and pushed her sunglasses up into her hair, keeping the flyaways at bay.

"Hello there," she said to Mariana cheerfully as she approached. "Lovely day, isn't it?" It was hard to disagree. January glanced over at the cart where the old witch stood, thinking it would probably make more business if they hired someone who looked a bit more lively. "A frozen butterbeer sounds pretty good, actually." It had quite a bit of sugar, but... it was summer. Who cared?
Aoife made a face. "I only have t'e one brother, and t'at's more t'an enough." She couldn't imagine putting up with 4 other Liams. "I'd be lost without my sisters, t'ough." They always had her back and she theirs. Aoife glanced at the candy packet being pushed her way, ready to refuse, as she didn't want anything interfering with the deliciousness of butterbeer. Except perhaps chips. Chips probably were grand with butterbeer, especially if dipped...
Ellie mentioning they were butterbeer flavored pulled her out of her musings and back to the packet. Now she had to try them. "T'anks!" She popped one in her mouth, and lit up. "T'ey do! Where did you get t'em?" For she certainly wanted to buy a few packets herself now.
She pondered Ellie's question for a small moment before shaking her head. "No. It's definitely not an Irish name. It could be Swedish, you know?" At least, as much as Aoife knew about Sweden and Swedish names it could be. "Both of my parents are Irish, t'ough t'ey have to live on opposite sides of t'e county from each other just to stand it. Being in t'e same country, you know?"
Getting her wand was certainly exciting, indeed. It was what she dreamed of the most the whole year leading up to today; having a wand of her own. Though she knew so little about them beyond her brother's, so how accurate her dreams were was up for debate. "T'ird year? Do you have a wand already, t'en?" And could she see it?
The latter never got ask on account of Gráinne sitting down beside them. "Mirror identical," she added as explanation for the 'nearly.' "Everything about me is t'e same as her, just flipped." Laughing warmly at Aiofé's face Ellie said "I love all my brothers even if they are pains and teasers most of the time. When it matters though they always have my back." She didn’t have any sisters so she couldn’t relate to what Aiofe was talking about, but she had friends that she shared secrets and things with.
Ellie couldn’t help but say as Aiofe’s face lit up like a star in the sky when she tasted one of the cream sweets. "See, I told you the candy was delicious." Gesturing back over her shoulder at the old cart lady she continued. "I bought the packet from the butterbeer cart lady. She sells the sweets too." Lifting up her mug of butterbeer to her lips for a sip Ellie choked on the substance in surprise as another girl joined their conversation as if she had been there the whole time.
Eyes watering, she coughed for a good long minute and drank some more butterbeer before she found her voice again as she looked between the nearly identical twins. "It's nice to meet you Gráinne! I'm Eleanor, but most call me Ellie or Ells." She took another sip of butterbeer. "I’ll be a third year transfer from Beauxbatons so i’ll be as new to Hogwarts as you two." She had tried Durmstrang too, but it was irrelavant.
Shrugging her shoulder Ellie plucked in a new sweet into her mouth to suck on as she turned her eyes to Aiofé and smiling kindly. "It’s okay if you don’t know where the name Eleanor comes from. I can ask my father for its meaning and origin if it has any." Then she got to hear the twins family story without even asking for it and it didn’t sound easy to have parents that hardly could stand living in the same country. Ellie sympathized with them. She knew how it was to not have picture perfect home life.
Confused by Aiofe’s question Ellie confirmed ”Yes I have a wand. I bought it at Ollivanders 2 years ago." Turning her eye to Gráinne's bag too Ellie willed her to open it and show them what was in the bag so they could talk about something else, please?

Jumping into queue, Mariana smiled a little. "Love the outfit. It's nice to be out of work attire, isn't it?" She could wear sandals and not worry about certain plants snapping at her toes.

January's smile lit up even more when her friend complimented her outfit. "Yes, it really is. I don't mind a good pantsuit, but they get suffocating after a while." And yes, sandals were quite nice. Office attire could be quite stuffy.
Stepping up to the counter when it was their turn, January ordered a nice cool drink and slid her payment across the counter.

He looked truly down in the dumps, and Evan couldn't have told you why, nor for a million dollars.
"Maybe you should ditch them and sneak around with me today." the words were out befor Evan could double think them. Was that actually not a nice thing? was it, perhaps even, insulting? she might as well have came right out and said: hey, leave behind you family and give me attention. Yeah, no. "Not that you have to, or anything. yknow. But i wouldn't mind your company... " she paused for half a beat. "I'll even get you a butterbeer to sweeten the deal." get it? because Butterbeer was deathly sweet.

He couldn’t have been he was out in the sun enjoying his afternoon while he could. “Oh, just thinking about all the people I haven’t seen this summer yet.” He laughed ”guess that’s partially my fault since I go back to my grandparents usually.” Makes light of his situation.
His smile grew at the suggestion, “Really? You’d like to hangout for the day?” he was kind of shocked. He could have sworn that he had done something to make Evan hate him. But maybe she didn’t actually hate him. He smiled, “I’m ready for adventures.” he laughed. Wait, did she not want him to go with her. His laughter died in his throat as he listened to her go on about a butterbeer. “Well if you still want to hang out then yes a butterbeer sounds lovely then something fun.” He brushed his longer hair out of his face.

"Know of anything like that for adults?"

Elisa hadn't been sure of how to handle this summer, let alone the approaching end to her compulsory education. A lot had been on her mind the past few months, leading to her withdrawal. But summer had arrived and was quickly passing, so she couldn't stay indoors all the time. So here she was doing her shopping for the final year as a Hogwarts student. It was a warm day, so after some time she needed a drink.
Hm? Butterbeer did sound nice. Elisa loved getting some at Hogsmeade so she walked up to queue with the others. Being attuned to her surroundings came naturally for her after that one incident... Incident... So while waiting, she began to recognize who was in fact in front of her. "..Nova?" Was that her dorm mate? This would be awkward if not.

The amount of excitement Adam was trying to keep locked up inside him right now was I N S A N E. He was just so HYPED knowing that this time next year, he'd be shopping for his OWN wand! His OWN set of books! His OWN potions set! AHHHHHHH!
Instead, he was showing great restraint and NOT darting around the shops in excitement. Normally he would be darting in and out of crowds, shoving his face in the windows and staring longingly at all the stuff he couldn't BUY quite yet. Isla, in all her super-mature second-year glory, strolled on up to the butterbeer cart. She'd worked super hard this morning buying one item from her school supply list, and now she was ready for a break. She had all summer to buy school supplies anyway. Surely she didn't have to buy everything now?
...and she wasn't.
She looked into the thick of the crowd and saw her mom talking to some other lady. Isla had insisted that she was old enough to roam the alley on her own now, but her mom had just given her a look and said something about third year. At least she didn't make Isla stand right by her like she had last year! Within viewing distance is what she had said.
She stepped in line and realized she'd actually cut in front of some kid. "Oh, sorry," she said, and then she stepped back and got behind him instead. She didn't even know the kid, so she didn't jump into conversation with him...YET.

WOOOOW. RUUUUUUDE! Adam had opened his mouth to retort at the older girl that she had very obviously walked right in front of him, but thankfully, she noticed her mistake before he could make a scene out of it. His annoyance deflated almost instantly, though, and he smiled at her.
"It's ok. I get ignored by my siblings all the time too," he told her matter of factly. So he was really used to it. He didn't LIKE it obviously, but yeah. "Do you go to Hogwarts?" he asked her in interest. It suddenly occurred to him that ALLLLLL these kids would probably be his classmates next term! Maybe not the same year, but they'd be in the same CASTLE so naturally he would be friends with all of them!

Naya was on a mission. She had made a few purchases in Diagon Alley, but now she was in search of the most important item on her shopping list. She absolutely HAD to have a butterbeer and just any butterbeer would not do. Naya made her way to the butterbeer cart and prepared to satisfy her craving. This was without a doubt the best drink in the entire world. They certainly didn’t have anything this good at home.
Fortunately the line wasn’t too long, which was surprising on such a beautiful day. Naya waited, her anticipation growing with every minute that passed. When it was her turn, she ordered a frozen butterbeer and some fudge for the road. With her treats in hand, she looked for a good place to sit. Finding a good spot, she sat down and rested her bags. Now it was time. Naya was definitely going to savor this moment. Taking a small sip, she let herself enjoy the flavor. It...was...awesome. There was nothing better than a frozen butterbeer on a beautiful day. Now she just sat back to enjoy her drink and people watch.

After yet another akward encounter with Claudine at the espresso place he had gone to Flourish and Blotts to buy all the new books he needed for school. Cole also allowed himself an issue of a new quidditch magazine. He thought he had deserved that after another less than satisfactory conversation with the darkhaired snakette, at least they hadn't ended up fighting, he had left before it had come to that. What he did wrong this time he had no clue. Girls we're just too mysterious. He needed to talk to Lucas or someone to get some help to navigate the girlworld.
Pulling his Hogwarts list out of his jacket pocket, he gave it a quick glance. He needed to buy more potions ingredients and a new cauldron but those he couldn't buy in this part of the alley. He was on the south street, maybe he should be nice big brother and buy some candy for his sister? It was then that his eyes spotted Naya over by the butterbeer cart. After coughing to clear her throat, Naya managed a smile. “Hey Cole. Fancy meeting you here. I have been shopping for school, yes. Just picking up a few things here and there.” Although Naya was surprised to run into Cole, she was definitely not disappointed. “Care to join me”, she said, while making a sweeping motion with her hand. There was room, if he wanted to take a seat. ‘How’s your summer going so far?” She was curious and trying to extend the conversation because......why not?

Isla hadn't noticed the mix of emotions the boy had displayed. Since she didn't know him, and she was really on here for the butterbeer, she hadn't paid him any extra attention. That is, until he started talking about getting ignored by his siblings all the time, too. "Siblings are like that. My little sister and little brother annoys me sometimes, so I end up just ignoring them, too," she said. "I mean, not saying you're annoying or anything, but that's just what happens in my family."
She nodded. "Yeah, I'm a second year there," she said, placing a slightly bigger emphasis on the word 'second'. She felt much cooler and older now that she wasn't a firstie. "You going to go there, too?" If she had to guess, he might be an incoming firstie. The kid in front of him moved out of line making this boy at the front of the line. "You're turn," she said, stepping up and taking the spot in line behind him. No way was she going to get caught in conversation and lose her spot to some other kid in line, and there was a set of twins behind her that looked pretty impatient.

I figured that should be my last stop.” No sense in lugging a bunch of heavy books around all day. That was her thought process. Naya looked down and saw what looked like Cole’s very full backpack. “You’ve gotten yours, haven’t you?” Naya also saved the books for last because buying books made it seem like summer was over. She didn’t really want to think about going back to school just yet.

I figured that should be my last stop.” No sense in lugging a bunch of heavy books around all day. That was her thought process. Naya looked down and saw what looked like Cole’s very full backpack. “You’ve gotten yours, haven’t you?” Naya also saved the books for last because buying books made it seem like summer was over. Had he started his shopping in the wrong end of the list? Maybe, but the encounter with Claudine earlier had disrupted his day and plans so he'd just have to carry around a heavy book bag all day. Cole nodded excitedly "Yes, I can't wait to see what creatures we'll get to learn about in the 'dreadful denizens of the deep' for instance. It sounds like dementors and other foul creatures." Hopefully the new CoMC professor didn't make them write about thestrals. Cole did not want to explain about his dead mother to a professor that was most likely not going be his head of house....."What electives will you take next year? I'm definitely going with comc, divination and possibly muggle studies. I really wish quidditch would come backt too." It was a love.
Eyes brightening further he beamed broadly at Naya "Yes I did. The swedish shortsnouts we're amazing to look at. I've got pictures if you want to see? They're really fascinating and I got new protective short snout skin gloves to use in classes." Among a few other souvenirs. "Wow, you really worked in a muggle animal hospital? Did you see any cool animals?" said a pinch of envy in his voice.
Cole nodded in response "Yes, I'm totally ready for our sixth year, aren't you?"
