Isn't it the sorting hat's song each year if like a premonition of what would happen for that term? So, I think that would be the theme of the song also. But the thing is, we do not know what will happen to the term that precedes this contest...

Most of the time the song is merely focused on the four houses and their attributes.

we all sit on the chairs in the Great Hall in rows
and we wait for the first years to hear
what the tattered old hat on the wooden stool knows
to which house they'll be sent to this year
and he tells us of courage and the brave or the smart
how, together, we must stand as one
that the choice is not made by the mind, but the heart
and its final and it can't be undone
good luck everyone, have fun with it and for those of you who say you wish you could write poetry , it's alot easier than you think, give it a try....you never know what you can come up with........  Spots
