SnitchSeeker Tags and Post Bit Coloring - Please Vote! (UPDATED)

Hello SnitchSeekers!

My fellow admins and I have been in discussion for about a month on 'tags' and post bit coloring. Tags ("user title" is the correct term, but "tags" is more fun) are those colorful lines of text below usernames. A post bit is the information below your avatar (Location, Join Date, Posts, Hogwarts RPG Name, and Ministry RPG Name). If you notice, some members have tags, some members don't, some members have colored post bits, and some don't. As of right now, tags and post bit colors (that are non-official titles including Fan club and language mod positions) are given out at random by admins. Since we started with tags years ago, we've never taken requests for them.

We are considering changing this, but we want to ask you, the members, your opinion on it. There are three options in the poll above for you to choose from. I'll elaborate on each below.

1. Fun tags and post bit colors only given at random as they always have been.

--This will be no change to the current rule.

2. Fun tags and post bit colors open for request via a thread open always, with restrictions on who can request and how often.

--This option will make tags and post bits much like submitting signatures in Scribbulus Everchanging Inks. We will put a thread in Scribbulus Everchanging Inks where you (if you qualify) can go in and request tag and post bit changes. Though, there will be many, many restrictions on this. The admins have come up with some qualifications for if this option is chosen:

You may request a tag/post bit change if:
1. You have no unexpired warnings/infractions
2. You have been a member of the site for one year
3. You have at least 850 posts

This isn't limitless though. Members that qualify for tag and post bit requests may make requests only 4 times a year (once a season, if you will). It will be kept up with through a new profile field.

3. Fun tags and post bit colors open for request via a thread occasionally and will be open for anyone.

--Like the option above, we would allow members to request. The difference is that the thread would be open only sometimes (probably about 4 times a year) and no restrictions would be put on who can and can't request.

So, consider everything above before you vote. There's advantages and disadvantages to every option. For example, voting for option 2 excludes new members, but voting for option 3 only doesn't allow you to request when you want. Think about what would make you the happiest, talk about it with your friends, and then vote.

We're 'revising' the tag rules a bit, too. The new rule stands as this: You can have 4 tags in total. If all 4 tags are 'official', then members are granted 1 additional fun title. And by 4 total, I mean, 4 TOTAL. This counts for everything, including your usergroup image title. So, if you're looking at my tags - I would have 4 official so I would qualify for the 1 additional (which I have). I would be at the limit.

This may be common sense, but I want to throw it out there just so we're clear. We will NOT touch official tags. Your House icon will not move or change and does count as a tag. The official fan club titles will not be changed and we will not change the colors of fan club tags.

Thanks guys and vote with care! Feel free to ask questions in this thread or make suggestions.

UPDATE: Due to the suggestions in this thread, we've added editable 'Post Bit' options to your profile. Please see this new site news article for more information!

Ooooooh!

Fun! :D

I'll be voting... :shifty:

Egyptian_Blue 07-16-2008 05:34 PM

Hmmm...a difficult choice...but I'm happy with how I voted.

krazypenguin 07-16-2008 05:35 PM

People being able to request their own random tags kinda takes the fun out of logging on one day and going ooooo I have a random tag!!! *victory dance*

Padie 07-16-2008 05:36 PM

I voted already ^_^

Edward Penguin 07-16-2008 05:40 PM

I think the occasional tag request allows new members to feel a part of the fun, though I think it would be better to allow people to request a tag and have one assigned. :hide:

Slytherin Fox 07-16-2008 06:18 PM

I think if tags are going to be requested occasionally that everyone should be able to share, even the new members. This way, they do feel more a part of things. This is all very interesting food for thought!

D.A Forever 07-16-2008 06:24 PM

I voted. I like the original way; it wouldn't be as exciting to request a tag, as it would to randomly get one, in my opinion.

PharaohMan18 07-16-2008 06:31 PM

I voted for #2. I have no tags and no color so I figure peeps like me who just sort of want at least one silly tag can get it without sitting around waiting for it to randomly happen. Plus it's only fair if you work for that 1 year & 850 posts like you have to work to change your SN.

FoxFire 07-16-2008 06:54 PM

I agree with Jezz and Gwacie. However, people should be allowed to dress up their post bit and tag thingie in the same manner that they can dress up their profiles. :hmm:

Are people who are technically over limit going to be...de-tagged? :D

We'll wait and see how the voting goes. But, if we choose to remain the same - then the admins will work with members that are over the limit. I mean, it's our fault you're over the limit as is. IF the vote goes to stay the same, we'll just handle each one as we see it. :)

If option 2 or 3 ends up being selected, will tags forever and thereafter be only requested, and never random?

argentinaz_angel 07-16-2008 07:17 PM

Nah, I like the old traditional SURPRISE of suddenly having a tag :D so much more fun, and intriguing!

:shifty: Do you think we'd be able to resist? :shifty: It's kind of like siggies - sometimes we invade those. The randoms would probably be less than they are now due to space and what not, but not gone.

FoxFire 07-16-2008 07:24 PM

Okies, I voted :D

ZDARDSKY 07-16-2008 07:29 PM

I voted, getting random tags are SO much more fun. I would think making it optional would take away the fun. :(

BanaBatGirl 07-16-2008 07:55 PM

Oooh this is such a tough decision, but a good topic nevertheless. :hmm:

I looove the randomness of tag invasions and I wonder what some people would request...so....:shifty:

I will be voting in a little bit. Thanks for letting us members have input on this! :D

cutiepie0319 07-16-2008 07:59 PM

i like the way it is now

MUSTANG SALLY 07-16-2008 08:14 PM

Ohhh I so agree that the randomness is what makes it fun

But I do like option 2...If it was a little harder to request (Like they have to have at least 1500 posts) then I would probably choose it. But its too easy to get 850 posts (Well in my opinion) So it wouldnt be much of a privelage to get one. It would be just like changing your siggie :(

So I think my vote is obvious :P

Little Trooper 07-16-2008 08:17 PM

That is a hard choice to make.

We're trying to keep the members that don't frequent the TP or WWW in mind, too. Some long standing members come just for news and discussions. 850 posts is a lot if you're only posting once or twice a day. :) But, I see your point, totally do.

Shanners 07-16-2008 08:25 PM

Hmmm. How odd that Shannon hasnt got a clue on what to vote. Where the randomness is good fun. (every un-boring person will agree) But soem people are random prone. And arnt random magnets..

i cant decide. lemme go have some ice cream maybe then I will be like better. and be able to choose.

Ohhh!!! That makes a lot of sense
I see where your coming from now. I never saw it that way, since Im usually on a lot :lmao:

850 post seems a reasonable choice how :)

But I still like random tags better ;)

Voldetemps 07-16-2008 08:31 PM

First of all, thank you for asking us our opinion of the matter. Something you do far too rarely. That’s what I believe: let your members participate in decision processes, and they will act with more responsibility.

Very true.
We know, some members change their tags every now and then, so what?

Requesting a tag and getting it immediately...that’s the Dudley way. O_O The horror. The site overrun by Diddykins.

---> Vote(d) 1!

FoxFire 07-16-2008 08:40 PM

*le sigh* We, the requesty people, are losing :xd:
