The fast rapping lyricist Daniel Radcliffe stars in Horns, a creepy thriller which premiered this Halloween. Horns is a bizarre concept – a young man is accused of killing his girlfriend and then mysteriously starts to grow horns from his head, further fuelling the speculation that he is both metaphorically and literally a monster.

Having been fresh from seeing the Harry Potter star in his wonderful romcom What If, it was again a pleasant, if not a little disturbing experience, to see Radcliffe this time take on the character of Ig Perrish. Although we get the sense that this film is meant to be a horror, what it truly is, is a tragic love story, a sort of Romeo and Juliet tale. Horns is very enjoyable to watch, and at times quite funny. Radcliffe again demonstrates his capacity to make onscreen relationships believable, and both he and Juno Temple do a great job of showing the couple’s chemistry, sometimes in the most rawest forms possible.

The concept of Horns alone is a no-brainer bankable property, one that I believe will be quite successful at the box office and one that goes to prove that Radcliffe is making all the right post-Potter choices. The film delivers, and has a little bit of everything to keep the audience happy, and the twist/reveal at the end is very satisfactory indeed. If you’re a Radcliffe fan, or indeed just a fan of the creepy genre, then Horns is a must see!
