20. Knitting Charm

Hermione knew the boys thought she'd gone slightly mental, but she didn't care. She'd made it her mission to free as many of the enslaved House Elves at Hogwarts as she could, and she was determinedly knitting house elf hats.

As her mum had never taught Hermione muggle knitting, she was struggling, but was determined not to use magic. Not in front of the boys anyway.

Once they had cleared out of the common room and gone to bed at last, she pulled her wand out of her pocket, flicked it at her knitting needles and cast a knitting charm. The needles started clicking away making hat after hat, as Hermione smiled to herself and picked up her Ancient Runes textbook and started to read, while smiling to herself.

41. Scourgify

"This is all your fault Ronald Weasley" Hermione whispered, casting a glance towards the red-headed boy on his knees next to her in the Dungeon.

Detention... Hermione never thought she'd get one. At least not for something as trivial as getting caught kissing Ron behind a tapestry.

She shook her head and glanced up at Professor Snape, who had his back to them and was rearranging jars on the shelves. Taking one hand off the scrubbing brush she was using to scrub the floor, she reached into her pocket for her wand.

Thankfully she was quite skilled in using non-verbal spells by now, so she thought SCOURGIFY and pointed the wand at a part of the floor, which was spontaneously cleaned.

Ron spotted what she was doing and got out his own wand to do the same.
He, however was not as skilled with non-verbal spells, so his spell bounced off the floor and hit the back of Snape's hair, turning it pink.

Snape spun around and saw Ron, wand raised, look of horror on his face.

"Another detention for you Mr Weasley" he said acidly.

42. Silencio

Hermione sat in the Gryffindor common room, determinedly not looking at anyone, wishing she could shut her ears, her hands gripping the sides of the armchair tightly. She would have fled to the girls dorm long ago, but Ginny, who was sitting opposite, had asked her for some help with her Potions homework.

Behind them and on the far side of the room were Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil. They were loudly discussing Lavender's lastest snogging session with Ron, and it was making Hermione want to vomit and scream, all at the same time.

Everytime she heard the word 'Won-won' she grated her teeth together, and she was finding it increasingly hard to focus on the potion Ginny was asking her about.

She snapped when Lavender started describing the freckles on Ron's neck. Grabbing her wand, she glanced over her shoulder, pointed it straight at Lavender and Parvati and thought 'silencio' as hard as she could. Thankfully it shut them right up before Hermione had to resort to using a nastier spell. Lavender and Parvati stalked past Hermione, giving her evil glares. She glared right back before turning her attention back to Ginny.

15. Hurling Hex

"C'mon Hermione, Harry and I both play Quidditch, it's not that hard" Ron said, trying to coax Hermione away from the fence she was standing behind, reluctant to enter the orchard.

"Quidditch may not be hard, but I would much rather keep my feet on the ground" Hermione said sternly, gripping her hands around the top wooden rail. It's not that she was afraid of heights, it was more the flying around at high speed on nothing but a piece of wood.

"But you promised" Ron said, doing his best impersonation of puppy dog eyes.

"Well, all right then" Hermione replied, trying not to laugh at Ron's hilarious facial expression.

She marched over to the broom and mounted it. Gripping the broomstick tightly, she was about to take off when she had a sudden rush of paranoia.

"Have you checked this broom for Hurling Hexes?" She asked Ron, in all seriousness. Ron responded by cracking up laughing.

"I rode it this morning, it's fine. Trust me" He said smiling.

Her panic abated, Hermione kicked off from the ground and swooped around the treetops, and quite enjoyed the feeling of the wind in her hair.

1. Accio

Hermione sat in the Gryffindor Common Room, perusing a letter that Viktor had sent her. He certainly had a way with words, and Hermione found herself grinning at the things he had written.

I miss holding your hand in mine, but I know the day will come when I can hold you again my love.

The portrait hole opened and Ron entered the room. Hermione hurredly tried to stash the letter in her bag, but Ron spotted what she was trying to do.

"Another letter from your 'penpal'?" he asked, eyebrows raised. "Accio letter!" he yelled, flicking his wand at the letter and it zoomed into his hand.

"It's nothing really, give it back" Hermione said, standing up and trying to reach for the letter. "Please Ron" she said, her voice breaking a little when he started to read it.

His eyes scanned the letter quickly and his face reddened. He screwed up the piece of paper and threw it at Hermione.

"I hope you two are happy together, don't bother inviting me to the wedding" he spat and stormed out of the room.

"Ron, wait..." Hermione started, but he was gone.

31. Orchideous

Hermione was itchy, and her fur was falling off in great clumps. At least this meant she would soon be back to normal after that disastrous attempt at a Polyjuice Potion.

She'd asked Madame Pomfrey for a mirror but she said she wasn't allowed one, on Headmaster's orders. Hermione knew she looked hideous, half girl, half cat. She'd been stuck in the Hospital Wing for nearly a week and she was going half-mad with boredom. Madame Pomfrey had also banned homework, so Hermione couldn't even do that.

The highlights of her stay were when the boys came to visit. Harry would always take her hand and talk to her, while Ron stood behind him looking slightly queasy.

Today, Hermione was surprised to see that Ron had come to see her alone.
"Hi" she said.

"Hello. I've got something for you" Ron said nervously. He pulled out his wand and said "Orchideous!", producing a bouquet of daises and handing them to Hermione.

"We learnt that in Charms this week" he said proudly. He patted her hand briefly and before Hermione could think of the words to thank him, he'd gone.

3. Braking Charm

"Merry Christmas Ron!" Hermione said happily, a velvet santa hat perched on her curly head. She bounded across the common room and planted a kiss on the top of Ron's head.

"Merry Christmas Harry!" Hermione added, as she also kissed Harry's cheek, as he was standing up.

Both the boys were a little taken aback by Hermione's giggly and happy manner, as just the night before she'd been stressing about how close their N.E.W.T exams were.

She handed parcels to both of them, Ron's was decidedly broom-shaped, Harry's was half-spherical.

Ron opened his quickly, it was the brand new Nimbus 4000. "Wow, thanks Hermione" he said, blushing at the thought that all he had bought her was a pair of earrings.

"It's got the latest Braking Charm on it, so we won't have a repeat of that unfortunate collision you had last match. I think Harry is still concussed" Hermione said nodding at Harry, who was having trouble getting into his present, which was in fact a crash helmet.

32. Petrificus Totalus
Hermione didn't know why she was heading in the direction she was. The urge to walk down Knockturn Alley had never really taken her, but now she had left Ron ogling the latest Nimbus in Quality Quidditch Supplies and she was making a beeline for the entrance.

Once in Knockturn Alley she could see immediately why they were told not to come here. Shrunken Heads hung on long ropes across shop entrances, and Hermione caught a whiff of what smelt like rotten cabbage.

A chill ran down her spine and she got a feeling she was being watched. She spun around to see Draco Malfoy, leaning on a lamppost and staring at her. He moved towards her, wand drawn.

"Mudblood's don't belong here. You might want to get lost before something happens to you" Draco snarled, jabbing his wand towards her.

Hermione knew she was in danger. Draco was a real threat after he had declared his allegiance to the Dark Lord.

"But Draco, I came here to see you" she said, smiling at him and twirling her hair. He was thrown off by this, and Hermione quickly pulled out her wand, cast 'petrificus totalus' at Draco and fled down the street.

47. Twitchy Ears Hex

Hermione and Ron had spent the last week perfecting it, and now had it down to a fine art. They decided to do one final test run before they unleashed it on their intended victim, Draco Malfoy.

They sat together on a couch in the Gryffindor common room, awaiting an unknowing test subject. They weren’t waiting long when Harry came into the room, walked over and sat down.

“Hey Ron, Hermione – I’ve just been talking to McGonagall. Are you two doing anything interesting?” Harry asked nonchalantly.

“Not really” Hermione answered, doing her best not to giggle as Ron cast the Twitchy Ears Hex on Harry nonverbally. Harry’s hands flew to cover his ears, then he looked around to see who had conjured it.

Ron and Hermione burst into laughter simultaneously.

“It’s not funny!” said Harry indignantly, as his ears slowly stopped twitching. He did another scan of the common room, but not seeing anyone brandishing a wand he shrugged and turned back to face Ron and Hermione, who were still laughing.

Harry never did figure out who hexed him.

40. Sonorus

The Gryffindor Common Room was rowdy and loud, as was usual for a Friday night. Hermione entered through the portrait hole, holding a note from Professor McGonagall. McGonagall had asked Hermione to pass the information on to her Housemates, as Minerva was still confined to the Hospital Wing after being attacked by Umbridge and her cronies.

"Excuse me, everyone" Hermione said.

The noise and general chaos ensued.

"Excuse me!" she said, a little louder.

Still no response from the crowd.

"Oh, for goodness sake" she said, pointing her wand at her throat and casting "Sonorus".

"EXCUSE ME. I HAVE A MESSAGE FROM PROFESSOR MCGONAGALL" Hermione said, her voice so loud that several first year students covered their ears and cowered. Indeed the Sonorus charm was not intended for use in such confined spaces, and a couple of the windows blew out.

Reversing the charm, Hermione stood on the nearest table and continued.

"Professor McGonagall wants everyone to remember that although she is currently in the Hospital Wing recovering, that does not mean that she is unaware of any of our actions. As such, she reminds us that we are to uphold the good Gryffindor name while she is gone" Hermione said.

43. Specialis Revelio

Hermione tapped her foot, counting down the minutes til prefect duty was over. The boys were probably outside having fun, and she looked out the library window to see if she could spot them amongst the crowds of people who were outside enjoying the sunshine.

Begrudgingly she stood up and made another round of the students studying in the library. Not that any of them were actually studying, she'd already told three separate groups of girls to stop giggling.

She spotted a familiar looking girl pass a note to a friend. Hermione grabbed the note and saw it was blank. She pulled out her wand. Romilda made a feeble attempt to grab the parchment back.

"Specialis Revelio" Hermione said, pointing the wand at the parchment.

I don't know what Ron sees in her - she really needs to do something about that hair.

Hermione grabbed Romilda by the back of her neck and marched her to McGonagall's office.

46. Tergeo

If you'd asked Hermione if she thought that she would ever be involved in, let alone instigate, a food fight, she would have told you to stop being ridiculous.

It was Alicia Spinnet's birthday and it seemed like everyone she was related to had sent her a cake, and they sat on platters all across the common room. The Weasley Twins, Ron and Harry were working their way across the room, trying slices of each cake. What they hadn't noticed yet is that the cakes were self replenishing and each time they ate a slice, another appeared.

"You want a piece of this one Hermione? It's Banana Coconut cream" Ron asked, spinning around, cake knife in hand. A small piece of sugared icing flew off and hit Hermione square on the nose. Hermione was feeling quite rebellious, and grabbed a piece of the nearest cake, walked over to Ron and mashed it onto the top of his head.

Chaos ensued and soon enough the entire common room looked like a cake shop had exploded in it.

After Hermione had finished cracking up with laughter, she walked around the common room, casting 'Tergeo' at all the cake encrusted people and furniture.

22. Legilimens

The common room was quiet, as it was fairly late. The only people still there were Harry, Neville, Ron and Hermione. They were all supposed to be studying for their Charms O.W.L, but Hermione was the only one who had actually opened her textbook. The boys were taking turns flicking balls of paper into the fireplace.

It wasn't long before a ball of paper bounced off the hearth and hit Hermione in the face.

"HONESTLY!" she said. "Will you three EVER grow up?"

"I hope we don't" said Harry, laughing. "This is far too much fun"

"Boys are so stupid and immature" Hermione said before attempting to go back to her reading.

"And girls are just impossible to figure out" Neville replied, although Hermione acted like she didn't hear.

When Hermione did look up from her textbook again five minutes later, Ron was staring at her.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Trying to use Legilimency on you, to find out what makes girls tick"

That finally caused Hermione to laugh. "You can do that til your hair turns grey and I doubt if you'll even be able to tell what I had for breakfast" she said.

9. Disapparate

Hermione was happy to be at the Burrow, she really was. After the death of Dumbledore she wanted to be surrounded by as many wizards as possible. She felt safe here. But, having so many people around became problematic when you were trying to get some alone time with your favourite redhead.

She'd tried just about everything. One morning she'd waited til Harry left to use the bathroom and she'd snuck into the bedroom he was sharing with Ron, who was still asleep. She tried to get him to wake up but the lazy oaf just rolled over and ignored her. She'd even tried cornering Ron on his way to the bathroom, but they were always interrupted.

One afternoon she'd reached the end of her tether. She grabbed Ron as he was walking out of the kitchen and dissapparated with him to a deserted island.

"Hermione - where are we?" Ron asked, dazed and confused from the dissapparation.

"It doesn't matter - just shut up and kiss me"

26. Morsmordre

"No, it's like this you moron"

"Oh, sorry Draco"

"Doesn't matter, he's never going to let you cast it"

Hermione usually tuned out the chatter in the library when she was trying to concentrate on something. Mind you, normally it was first year Hufflepuff girls discussing some boy named Jacques, or fourth year Ravenclaws copying eath other's homework answers.

But tonight, Hermione's potions essay was forgotten as she heard the familiar drone of Draco Malfoy and Gregory Goyle. Why Professor McGonagall had even let those two come back to school for their seventh year was beyond her. Probably felt bad for Crabbe getting killed by the Order. Hermione got up out of her seat and snuck over to behind a bookshelf near where they were working.

Draco and Goyle both had their wands out, and Goyle was trying to flick his wand around. Draco finally snatched Goyle's wand out of his hand and told him to watch him demonstrate.

"Morsmordre" Draco said in a whisper, and sure enough, a miniature version of the Dark Mark appeared out of the end of his wand.

10. Engorgio

Hermione was very proud of herself. She'd locked herself away in the kitchen at Number 12, Grimmauld Place all morning, making the perfect banana cream cake the muggle way. Mrs Weasley offered repeatedly to help her make it using magic, but Hermione was having none of it. She wanted to make Harry a special birthday cake.

After finishing her creation, she walked out into the dining room proudly holding the small cake in front of her. She was shocked when she entered the room and looked up to see not just Harry, Sirius and the Weasleys, but the entire order, all crammed into the small space.

Looking wistfully down at her small cake and wondering how it was going to feed this many people, Hermione carefully placed it on the table. All eyes were on her, no one said a word.

Grinning, Hermione got out her wand and cast 'Engorgio'. Everyone clapped, as now the cake was the size of a couch. Cooking the muggle way was fine, but magic was a necessity to feed this many hungry people.

19. Jelly Legs

"Hermione, can I talk to you, ah, alone" Ron said, his hands clasped in front of him as he stood before her. She nodded to Ginny and Luna and stood and left the kitchen of number 12 Grimmauld Place with him.

Once they were alone he stopped and turned to her, a look of upmost seriousness on his face. Hermione was calm, certain that she knew what Ron was about to ask her. She'd heard him asking Harry for advice on what to buy Ginny for her birthday, and she was positive that he was going to ask her for advice too. Afterall, it wasn't everyday your younger sister came of age.

"Hermione..." Ron started.

Predicting his question Hermione started talking. "I think maybe you should get her something girly but not too girly" She said all in one breath.

"What?" Ron asked confused. "I was trying to ask you to marry me"

Hermione's mouth dropped open and she fell to her knees. It was at that moment Fred and George came around the corner.

"Ron, stop practising the Jelly-Legs Curse on your girlfriend" they said in unison.

"Yes" Hermione said to Ron from her spot on the floor.

23. Levicorpus

The DA meetings were going well. The group had mastered a range of both defensive and offensive spells, and Hermione was proud of how far they had all progressed. Harry was a very capable teacher.

One particular meeting, Harry suggested that they practise the Levicorpus spell.

"What's that got to do with Defence?" Zacharias asked snottily. "Shouldn't we be learning something important?"

"If one of us gets attacked and hurt, how else are you going to move them to safety? Seems pretty important to me, unless you want us to leave you where you land" Hermione answered, silencing his protests.

As revenge, Hermione volunteered Zacharias to be the person they practised on. Before he could get out of it, she'd performed the full body bind and each member of the DA took turns floating his body and moving it across the room. Harry and Ron took special care to move Zacharias around as quickly as possible, making him quite dizzy by the end of the lesson.

4. Blasting Curse

"You really want to join this Dueling Club?" Ron snorted. "Gilderoy doesn't look like he knows anything about Dueling, probably runs away screaming like a girl when anyone so much as points a wand at him"

"Haven't you read any of his books Ron? They are assigned reading for Defence Against the Dark Arts you know" Hermione said, shaking her head as she rummaged in her bag for a quill to sign the Duelling Club sign up sheet.

Harry entered the Common Room and headed over to where Hermione and Ron were standing.

"Oh, good, the sign up sheet is up" he said and added his name to the bottom of the list. Hermione gave him an encouraging smile as she added her name under his.

"Don't tell me you've read Gilderoy's books, Harry" Ron said, looking worried.

"Course not" Harry said. " I just want to see the old git get hit with a blasting curse"

Hermione frowned and muttered the word 'boys' under her breath.

Ron grinned and added his name to the sign up sheet.

49. Wingardium Leviosa

Hermione had a plan, and no matter how much Harry and Ron laughed at her about it, she would not be dissuaded. Afterall, a very similar plan had worked when she wanted to get the book out of the restricted section to make the Polyjuice Potion, and they hadn't laughed at her then.

Her opportunity came at the end of a DADA lesson, when she offered to stay behind and help Professor Lockhart tidy up the books.

"Professor Lockhart..." Hermione started, suddenly nervous.

"My dear, you may call me Gilderoy" he replied, flashing his dazzling (although probably cosmetically enhanced) smile.

"Gilderoy" Hermione started again. "I was re-reading Wandering with Werewolves on the weekend and I must say i loved the part where you 'wingardium leviosa'd that troll and flipped him upside down"

"Aha yes that was quite a story-sight. Shame i didn't have my cameraman with me while I did it, would have made a great cover shot" Gilderoy said quickly.

"Would you be able to sign a copy for, uh, my friend?" Hermione asked, holding out a copy of the book and a quill.

"Certainly" Gilderoy said, signing the book. "Would your... friend like a signed photo too?"

50. Waddiwasi

Hermione thought that she and Ron had found a quiet spot in the Three Broomsticks to talk. She knew the likelihood of finding such a spot in the busiest place in Hogsmeade on a weekend when half the school was around was rather slim. She was rather proud of herself for making the giggly girls sitting at the booth in the corner think that the lead singer of the Weird Sisters was signing autographs outside.

She sat down and slid around to the back of the booth, holding her butterbeer. Ron sat down next to her.

"You wanted to talk?" Ron said, looking worried.

Hermione was about to start speaking when she heard a popping sound. A distinctly familiar popping sound.

"Hold on" she said to Ron as she knelt on the seat and peered over the divider. Cormac McLaggen was sitting alone in the next booth, chewing gum and obviously eavesdropping.

"Waddiwasi" Hermione said, and the chewing gum flew out of Cormac's mouth and into his ears.

Laughing, Hermione sat back down and smiled at Ron.She leant forward and kissed him.

"Talk is overrated" she said.
