Daydreaming

Hermione stared at the library table across her. Harry was busy with Ginny there, and she was here Ron.

Realizing that Hermione had stopped writing, Ron looked up from his own homework and touched her hand. “Is something wrong?” he asked. Hermione looked back at him, smiled and shook her head.

With that, he returned to his homework, and she returned to her Harry-staring. Somehow, watching him felt better than having Ron touch her hand . . . but she knew she’d never get what she wanted - not with Ginny around – not now . . . maybe not ever.

Oh Snap [1]
(1. Herbology)

Snap, went the Venus Flytrap that sat in the middle of Greenhouse 4, where the 5th years stayed. As Professor Sprout chattered endlessly about the plant, someone was passing a note.

“Padma, pass this note to Hermione, will you?” Harry muttered. Padma giggled excitedly, and complied to his request all too willingly.

Hermione opened the note immediately. Right at that time, Professor Sprout was passing her table.

Hermione looked up, and tried to hide the note, but Professor Sprout got it first.

“What is the meaning of this?”

Hermione stammered. Harry, seeing what happened, stood up. “I can explain, Professor.”

Everyone in the Greenroom stared at Harry.

“Sit down, Potter,” Professor Sprout said sternly, “We’ll talk about this after class.”

Soon enough, class ended, and Harry and Hermione stayed.

“Mr. Potter, I’m certain you’re aware that attentiveness is a must in my class,” Sprout started, tucking the paper away in her drawer. “And you Ms. Granger, I expect better behavior from a top notcher like you in the future,”

“We’re sorry, professor. It’ll never happen again,” they both muttered, looking down, and occasionally glancing at each other.

“Alright. But I’ll have to give you detention. You both start tomorrow.”

The next day, Harry and Hermione went to Greenhouse 4 to meet Professor Sprout for their detention.

“I’m sorry I got you in trouble, Hermione,” Harry said apologetically. Hermione smiled and said, “It’s alright, Harry. Accidents happen. It could’ve been worse.”

Soon they got to the Greenhouse, where a vicious Venus Flytrap greeted them. Startled, Hermione squealed and threw herself in Harry’s arms, in which he reflexively caught her. Surprised, they looked at each other.

Just then, Professor Sprout appeared with her hands on her hips. “Really! You’d think you kids would get a room or something!” she said, shocked.

Draught of Peace
(8. Potions)

Harry was given the chance to choose his Potions partner, so why didn’t he choose Hermione? Why did he let Ron choose her before he did? Now he was stuck with Dean Thomas, Ginny’s ex-boyfriend. What was he to do?

“Ron, please pass the powdered moonstone,” Hermione said impatiently, reaching out her hand for Ron to give her the ingredient that was needed for the Draught of Peace they were currently making. Ron blinked a few times before what she said registered to him.

Harry furrowed his brow. He could’ve given Hermione what she needed faster than Ron ever could.

(18. Whomping Willow)

“C’mon ‘Mione! We can do this,” Harry urged as he held Hermione’s hand tightly. Hermione whimpered and said, “I . . . I don’t know, Harry!”

The Whomping Willow lashed its branches angrily at them as Ron’s red head disappeared from view.

“Count with me, Hermione! Jump, on three. One . . . two . . . THREE!” Harry said, suddenly hatching a thought. Hermione counted, then jumped as he did. They managed to avoid a branch and fell into the entrance, with Hermione falling atop Harry.

“Sorry,” she muttered, helping him up.

“No problem,” he replied with a smile.

When Veelas Attack
(21. Veela)

Once again, Veelas had come to visit Hogwarts. And they weren’t just any group of veelas. It was Fleur and her posse. Upon seeing these silver-haired maidens, many heads turned. Females’ heads turned away, whilst males’ heads turned towards them. Harry and Ron, once again, included.

Hermione had a good enough mind to slap both of them back to earth. She glanced at Ginny and realized she was much too busy wanting to slap Dean out of his wits. Poor Harry, she thought sympathetically yet angrily.

Sighing, she tugged both the boys’ sleeves and brought their minds back to reality.

Rita Skeeter Must Die

“That’s it!” Harry said, pacing the room while crumpling a newspaper article by Rita Skeeter.

“Harry, we’ve got to stop that horrible Skeeter woman from spreading the news about us. We are not together!” Hermione protested, folding her arms and frowning.

“Exactly! I don’t know where this woman gets this junk.”

They looked at each other. Did they really want to deny what Rita wrote? Did they really want to deny the truth about what they felt for each other?

“C’mon ‘Mione. Let’s get some rest. We’ll deal with this tomorrow.” Harry said out of the blue, helping her up.

“Come on, Hermione! You’ve got to come! All the Gryffindor girls will be there,” Ginny said, urging Hermione to attend the pajama party the Patil twins had planned. Hermione smiled and refused the offer. “Sorry Gin, but I promised Harry I’d help him with his homework,” she said, already thinking of what she and Harry would be doing later.

“Gosh, you’re so committed. Harry’s lucky to have a friend like you,” Ginny said, patting her friend on the shoulder and rushing up to the girl’s dorm for the pajama party.

Just a friend? Hermione thought sadly, and waited for Harry.

Harry kissed Hermione. He had never felt anything like this. Even his first kiss with Ginny couldn’t compare to what he felt now. Once he pulled away, he smiled and leaned his forehead on hers.

“I think I love you, Hermione Granger,” he whispered coyly in her ear. Hermione giggled and said, “Well, I know I love you, Harry Potter.”

High above their heads, as they continued snogging, the portraits were whispering.

“I’ll be! Romance is spreadin’ , and it ain’t even Valentines yet!” said a farmer.

“Oh yes. It is so sweet! They’re perfect,” said a ballerina, sighing dreamily.

Flashback Fever [1]

“I was 9 years old when I had a really high fever and, as usual, Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon ignored me. I expected that kind of treatment, but didn’t expect my sickness to be that bad. I hadn’t gotten sick until that day, so it was new to me. I couldn’t move a muscle, and I was burning up.

It was only 3 days in my sickness that Mrs. Figg decided to visit, with her niece, Michelle. I had seen her before, but didn’t talk to her. Yet, when she found out I was sick, she cared for me.”

“Oh Harry, Michelle sounds like such a sweet girl. You were lucky,” Hermione commented, as she placed a cold towel on Harry’s forehead.

He smiled and placed a hand atop hers. “Yeah, but not as sweet as you,” he said, “Thanks for taking care of me.”

“Anytime Harry. I’ll always be here to help you. Isn’t that what friends are for?”

Their smiles faded slightly. They knew they couldn’t be more than friends. With Ron and Ginny in their lives, how could they?

Harry decided to rid of the silence. “’Mione, maybe you should get some rest. I’ll be alright.”

Falling for You

The burrow was a big enough place for Harry to fly around in, so he mounted his broom.

Before he could fly, a voice called out to him. It was Hermione.

“Harry! What’re you doing?”

“I was s’posed to play Quidditch. Wanna join me?”

Hermione hesitated at first, but Harry handed her a broom and smiled reassuringly.

Soon, they kicked off the ground, but Hermione was still unable to control her broom. Without warning, her hands slipped and she fell off her broom.

She screamed. Harry heard her and zoomed down just in time to catch her in his arms.

Cat Man Do

“Crookshanks, come here!” Hermione demanded, watching helplessly as her cat chased Ron around the common room, hissing, spitting, with its hairs on end.

“Hermione, get this bloody cat off my tail!” Ron screamed, struggling to run faster.

“I don’t know think he likes you!”

“Who cares? Just get rid of it!”

“What’s going on?” Harry had entered the Common Room, and everything was still. Hermione stopped screaming, and Crookshanks stopped chasing Ron. The cat, which was part Kneazle, walked over to Harry and purred sweetly.

“How come he likes you better?” Ron asked, scratching his head.

Hermione just smiled knowingly.

A/N: Crookshanks is part kneazle, remeber?

Through the Looking Glass
(23. Telescope)

There she is, Harry thought, looking at Ginny through the telescope. She was on the grounds, and he was up in the Astronomy Tower, way past class hours.

He sighed and thought deeply as he gazed through the telescope. He liked Ginny, didn’t he? Isn’t that why he hooked up with her?

Then, the door opened and in walked Hermione. Harry hadn’t seen her come in, and Hermione hadn’t realized he was there. They looked up at the same time, and they both flashed a smile.

“Hey Harry.”

“Hey Hermione.”

Suddenly, all current thoughts of Ginny disappeared from Harry’s mind.

A Moment in Time

Neither of them knew it, but they were thinking the same thing.

Aside from the duty to save Sirius and Buckbeak that Dumbledore had entrusted to them, Harry and Hermione had another thing in mind. This timeturner was the key to see their future, and they both knew it. It was their key to see if they truly were meant to be a couple. Neither of them wanted to tell the other, though, for fear of rejection and embarrassment.

Hermione turned the timeturner three times and off they went. Her arms around his neck, and his arms around her waist.

Wordplay
(97. Dictionary)

Hermione was browsing through the library when she saw her favorite dictionary, which she hadn’t seen in weeks. Smiling, she took it out, and noticed a heart sticking out of the ‘M’ portion.

She opened the book, and found that the heart was actually a bookmark with writings.

The word ‘monthsary’ isn’t in the dictionary, because it isn’t actually a word, but we use it anyway . . .

Puzzled, she flipped the bookmark over, but the continuation wasn’t there.

“By the way, Happy Monthsary, ‘Mione.”

Hermione looked over her shoulder, and there stood Harry holding a bunch of flowers.

“Harry James Potter!” Hermione called one day as she cleaned the living room of Godric’s Hollow, where the trio was now staying.

Harry lazily walked out of his room and said, “What?”

Hermione arched her eyebrow and said, “D’you know that your socks are lying around the living room? We’ll be having guests tonight, for heaven’s sake!”

Harry rolled his eyes and said, “How d’you know that’s mine and not Ron’s?”

“Because I told Ron to pick his socks a while ago. Now take these things to your room!”

Harry scowled at and snatched the socks out of her hands.

“Hey guys! Fred and George taught me to yodel!” Ron announced. Harry and Hermione, who were cuddled on the couch, looked at each other, puzzled.

“Yodeling? Alright, let’s hear it,” Harry said, then Ron cleared his throat and yodeled. Just then, a portrait shot him a murderous look and said, “D’you mind?! Some o’ us are tryin’ to sleep ‘ere!”

Ron stopped abruptly, and the others shrugged. He cursed the portrait first, then wordlessly proceeded to yodel in the boy’s dorm.

“Oh Harry. What’re we ever gonna do with Ron?” Hermione asked, giggling.

Harry simply chuckled and kissed her forehead.

Hermione squeezed Harry’s hand gently. He needed encouragement, and she was there for him. Harry squeezed her hand too, and smiled. “Thanks for being here, Hermione,” he muttered.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang in the background, and Harry held Hermione close. Ron appeared and said, “Voldemort! He’s here!”

The Order readied themselves. The trio stood side by side, wands ready. They were all about to get into the fight of a lifetime. The fight that would make the wizarding world’s and the Order’s future.

Before they charged into battle, Harry swore he heard Hermione say, “I love you, Harry.”
