Accidents & Catastrophes: Toxicology and Analysis Laboratory
Charles Hollingberry EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry [IC March 2097 - present; OOC November 2018 - present]
The Toxicology and Analysis Laboratory on level three is a facility set aside for employees of the Accidents and Catastrophes department in order to continually work on their brewing and potion identification skills, or develop some experimental potions for assessment and tweaking purposes. While this laboratory is primarily for use by potioneers, it is also a space appropriate for those who are working to identify particular spells or charms found on bewitched objects.
This is a larger and more modern appearing space than the Magical Forensics Laboratory found on level two, and is more specialised for potion brewing and experimentation. Other Ministry employees that are permitted to work here alongside the A&C potions specialists include DERP Botanists who need more space and facilities than what the greenhouses provide, Law Enforcement employees with the appropriate clearance and Ever-Locked Room Potioneers and Charmists from the Department of Mysteries.
To one side of the lab there are brewing stations complete with all the equipment a potioneer might need. Along the back wall there are magical analysis machines that help with analysing constituent and component parts and ingredients of unidentified potions, as well as testing whether certain ingredients might react dangerous together. Along the other side of the lab you'll find stations for preparing ingredients and analysing bewitched objects. There is also a special magical poisons work area, and plenty of storage space for in-progress potions and completed brews.
If you need anything else within this space, you are expected to either provide it yourself or speak with your department head if it is something a little more questionable, large or dangerous. Many muggle items are available in storage for charms or potions work (including a few automobiles), and you may indeed find some items within the storage cupboard on the other side of the department. Please remember this is a dangerous work zone and all safety procedures must be followed to the letter - use your protective charms and make use of the protective gear provided.
While this room is intended for use primarily by level 3 employees, those who work in other departments may make use of this space with a written request and approval from Eliora Dodderidge, Department Head of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.

You are more than welcome to play your characters in this thread, A&C employees do not need to ask permission to be in here and are encouraged to do so regularly to work on their skills - including those that do not work directly with potions. A well-rounded skill set is completely encouraged here. If you are not part of A&C, please send a VM or PM to Shanners or have your character make an IC request in Eliora's office on this level.
Keep an eye in here, because there may be particular scenarios provided for A&C employees to work with.

Walking smartly through the department, her designer heels clacking only slightly on the flooring due to a handy charm Nives’ had told her about. Her sister-in-law. Not her half-sister Nives. Her sister-in-law Nives. Yes. Man her family was confusing at times.
Opening the door into the labratory, she slipped insid and looked around for Dalton. He hadn’t been in the main desked area of the department, which meant he was elsewhere. Duh. Okay, Giulia stop rambling. We’re here for a reason.
Hands carefully placed in the hiplow pockets of her dress, she moved around the lab without touching anything. When she was close to the man, she stood at his side waiting for him to realise she was there - not wanting to interupt his concentration when he was doing something.
Lalalalalala.
“Oh.” The Italian smiled at him. “Hahlo.” Her accent was still very strong, having only been in London for a few months now. “How are you zettling in?” Not wanting to contaminate - well, anything - she stood straight, away from the table. Her hands in her pockets as she did the - small talk. Sí. Small talk. Wasn'tawkwardatall.

The lab was the best place: Dalton always felt more relaxed and at ease, more confident and generally more himself when he was in one, and the Ministry facility was no different. He was at one of the analysis stations, completely in the zone as he ran different tests on a sample that had been sent in when he heard movement behind him.
With a wave of his wand, he finished up what he was doing and turned around just as Giulia started to speak.
"Hi Guilia," he managed politely as he stowed his wand away. "I'm really enjoying it, thanks. What about you?" Wait, she was new as well, right? He hadn't just made that up in his brain?

Tipping her head slightly as she pushed some brunette hair behind her ear, the Italian gave him a small smile. “It is good.. I am enjoying the challenges.” She told him, as she crossed her arms easily, relaxed as she watched him easily.
She missed home, and actual pizza… but he didn’t need to know that. Definitely not.
“Eliora would like to schedule a meeting with you.” She told him, hating small talk and figuring he would rather just know what she was here for. After all, he likely only saw her in the labs when she was looking for someone specifically. “A general review, make sure you are settling in… enjoying it… etc.” She said, hands unfolding to rotate in the air in a physical ‘etc’ motion.

Dalton nodded in response, offering a tentative smile that came across as more of a grimace even though he didn't mean it to. That was just his face. He did understand, though - he too was enjoying the challenges the new job brought.
As he moved to wash his hands (one could never be too careful in a potions laboratory), Dalton stiffened ever so slightly. A meeting with the Department Head? Guilia could dress it down all she wanted, but it still sounded ominous to him. Of course, he wanted to come across well, but not quite obsequious, so he paused before the temptation to run straight to Eliora's office overcame him. "When would she like this meeting?" he asked, trying to seem as though he wasn't worried.

The Italian uncrossed her arms, instead leaning her hip against the counter as she tried to give him a reassuring smile. Silently, she thought he’d look handsome if he smiled - like actually smiled… but she hadn’t seen him do that very much since they had both started… so she figured he just didn’t like smiling. Which was definitely okay. If he knew her family, he’d know that smiling definitely wasn’t a normal thing either.
Well, mostly. There was Zia Ciosa… but she loved to smile as much as she loved to bake. It was what they all loved her for. Her baking and her café …. But you didn’t cross Zia Ciosa, not if you didn’t want cut off from the best coffee and bruttiboni in Italy.
Hmmm. She liked how straight to the point Dalton was. She could appreciate that. “Eliora either has an appointment available at 4pm this afternoon or tomorrow morning at 9.30am.” She gave him a very small reassuring small because she wasn’t one for smiling either and nodded at him. “I was told that you could choose whichever was best for you around your potions.” While potions weren’t her own fortay, her second cousin’s Auberto, Romolo and Silvia were constantly informing them that their potions came first; that they couldn’t simply leave them behind regardless of the emergency.

The fact that his colleague wasn't a big smiler was fairly reassuring, and it made Dalton feel a little more relaxed. Only a little, but in fairness that was a lot more than most people. The fact that Guilia was new, too, also helped. With a quick glance around the laboratory, and then down at the second-hand, particularly well-used watch on his wrist, Dalton gave the timing a moment of thought.
"Nine-thirty tomorrow would be good, yeah," he said, grateful that he'd had the choice between the two. "I can get a test started first thing in the morning." And whilst it didn't require watching, he would be free to attend the meeting.

The silence didn’t bother her, in fact, she found it nicer and more honest than some of the stupid conversations she had had in the break room since she had started here. She had a genuine appreciation for Dalton’s manner and it was one she very much missed about her cousins at times. Sometimes. Alittlelikealot.
”Nine-thirty tomorrow it is.” She said, nodding her head. ”Gratzie. I will let Eliora know tonight to expect you. If you get held up, please send me a memo or patronus of some form and I can rearrange the appointment for you.”
Giulia looked at Dalton for a few seconds before she nodded once more. ”I hope I didn’t take up too much of your time.” She was being stupid. Nevermind.
