Default Divination Lesson 2 - Belomancy

It’s a stormy January afternoon in Scotland. The wind has a bitter chill to it, the temperature has plummeted beyond what has become the norm in the brief time since your return to the castle and the sun seems to have forsaken this side of the country—but that has no bearing on this lesson. While Professor Fletcher had wanted to host this particularly lesson out on the grounds, he’d made all the necessary arrangements up in the divination tower.

When you enter, the first thing you’ll notice is that the classroom is much larger than it typically is. The second thing you’d notice? It is essentially empty. Come to think of it, the room doesn’t look much like a classroom but more resembled the space out on the grounds. A wide expanse of grassland seeming to stretch in all directions thanks to the aid of a few well placed charms. You could walk quite a distance in each direction without hitting the disillusioned walls, but wandering off while the man carries out his lesson is il-advised...to say the least.

As a direct consequence of the newer rules being in place, the man had already addressed the students in an earlier lesson, informing them the standard greeting was to be withheld until after he greeted them. He didn’t need the confusion, or flimsy protests of ignorance.

The remain standing rule wouldn’t be too hard to follow today as there are no chairs present. Come in quietly and wait for the lesson to begin.

OOC: Welcome to the second Divination lesson of the term! I'll be moving the class along in 24 - 36 hrs. Remember to keep in mind the Professor's rules and your character should be fine....unless you don’t want them to be.

CLASS HAS BEGUN!!

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy entered the Divination Tower on time, dressed neatly, ensuring the rules were followed as always. She quickly found a spot to stand on as she gave Professor Fletcher a silent nod in greeting. Surprisingly enough, Daisy had quite liked the previous lesson and was hoping to perform as well if not better this time.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

The Ravenclaw would have looked around in wonder the moment that he had entered the Divination classroom had the previous and NICE professor still been teaching the subject and had done the spells to make the classroom look like they were outside. However, Dorian kept his face as straight as possible, not even looking around as he entered trying his best not to look impressed. Because it WAS excellent spellwork, he simply did not want to praise one of the Headmaster's henchmen.

Without saying a word because of the rules, Dorian did give a small nod of acknowledgement to the Professor before he walked to Daisy. He knew that she was one of the only few people left who still paid attention in class and as much as he disliked everything about school right now, he still wanted to get good grades.

He also did not greet the Hufflepuff Prefect verbally but he did give her a smile as he turned his body for a moment to get his bag off his shoulders and placed it on the ground next to him.

Alastair wandered into the classroom. He was careful not to sit, but he wasn't too sure of where to stand. These rules were a little confusing, so he just went and stood somewhere away from the other students. He had little desire to raise the ire of the professor.

Alastair liked the look of the classroom and he looked around, making a quick 360 so he saw the entire classroom. He fidgeted in place, trying to stand still made his feet just want to move more.

As far as Zoryn Spinnet was concerned, Calvin Fletcher had a block of mozzarella cheese in place of a head. Probably why his brain was all mush too. Actually, this theory explained many things. But most of all, it explained why he was an idiot sandwich. Because his head belonged in one.

Anyways, the Gryffindor made her way up to the divination tower, entering and stopping when she saw her Professor, staring him dead in the eyes and wearing a triumphant grin.

In case anyone forgot, she was the one who enlightened their scumbag of a headmaster on the conflicting rules situation. Which meant that Zoryn Spinnet successfully put Calvin Fletcher in his place. Guy thought he was all high and mighty taking away points, insisting on pushups, parading around his mozzarella head. Well. HA. Zoryn STILL owned this school.

Zoryn: 100
Mozzarella Head: 0

And that's just how things worked around here.

Conveying all of this to him via a thirty-second stare down, the Gryffindor turned on her heels to go find a place to stand. Fortunately for any dimwit around here, there weren't actually desks to begin with. So looks like they were in the clear this go around.

Skyler was always confused with thia professor. The previous Divination lessons, he always had them greet him and then be silent. But this time would be different. She walked inside, quietly, and stood in an area. She looked around at the scenery. It sure was beautiful here. She then stared straight ahead, not moving.

Natalie was unfortunately back from her Christmas holiday. It had been very hard to come back. Much harder than usual. She usually enjoyed coming back to Hogwarts for the last half of term much more than she did this year. Something to do with the current administration...

In her clean and crisp robes, Natalie came to the Divination tower and walked through the doors, pausing momentarily when she saw that the classroom was.. not really a classroom. Well. At least it would be interesting today.

"Hello, Professor," she said politely as she stood in the general area of where her normal seat was. Since there were no desks... she guessed.

WOW!

Just...... wooooow!

Lucas’s eyes widened as he looked around the room. Or what was meant to be their classroom but was now a part of the grounds. Or, well, that’s what it LOOKED like. It was hard to imagine that they were in the castle and not outside somewhere, about to have a little picnic while they learnt about Divination.

But, then again, the man probably didn’t know how to have a good picnic.

In fact, he was the one who ruined the mood of the setting and it was when Lucas’s eyes locked onto him that he felt his mood drop. He bit his lip and shuffled forwards towards an empty spot, one that....... wasn’t anywhere near the man but wasn’t near the back of the class either. Just...... somewhere near the middle. This will do.

And there was a no talking rule, yeah? So..... he stayed quiet.

That was something he could do well.

Upon entering the classroom Bettie had a hard time to controlling herself from saying wow out loud. She wanted to take a deep breathe but that would be to loud as well. So she turned around and walked out of the classroom and went "wow" and took a deep breath. She then turned back around and went back in to the classroom gave the professor a polite nod and found an empty spot and stood there quietly taking in the site and hoping they can sit so she can see if the grass was real.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

In the strangest turn of events, Divination wasn’t one of the classes that gave the Head Girl high levels of anxiety. On the contrary, it was predictable, it was ordered, it was structured. On no day did she have to dread showing up to rule breaking she had to think hard about reporting. If things went wrong, the man handled it swiftly and effectively so she wouldn’t have to. When she went to Divination, all she had to do was learn. There was a certain comfort in that level of predictability.

Jessa entered the room, a million questions already rushing through her mind as a direct result of the settings but the girl knew better than to voice any of them aloud. Perhaps....after class...when the lesson was over and there weren’t so many rules that needed to be remembered while addressing the man. Doubtless it would mean less anxiety on her part.

For now, the girl stood by Nat, arriving too late to have heard her greet the man—because THAT would’ve surely caused some panic.

The Professor got a polite nod, just so she could say she still acknowledged him even in silence. Her friend got a small smile.

The sixth year felt a SMALL sense of relief upon stepping into the room. It wasn't the same as being outside, but it was almost enough to trick his mind into believing he was and that was good enough for him right now. It had been...a struggle since Professor Wayland's dismissal and not even the break had been able to settle his heart on the matter. He felt...betrayed that the man had played right into their hands. Right into whatever the new Astronomy professor had been sneering at him about. Whatever it was...nothing seemed good enough a reason to take actions that meant you abandoned your students. Only excuses.

It had made him reflect a bit more, especially after some conversations with his mum and dad about the state of Hogwarts right now. Was it good what was going on here? No, not entirely. But, as his parents had pointed out, they were safe and there was finally nothing trying to kill anyone within the walls. So, if nothing else, it did seem like the promise of safety had been delivered and there were always preemptive measures and instant snap disciplines to anything out of sync with that. It was...a small victory, he supposed, in the grand scheme of things.

His opinion on the Divination professor had not changed much over the course of the term either and, honestly, Derf did not really have that many unkind things to say about the man. Strict was not a bad thing to him, though fairness was and the Hufflepuff did not paint this man as that. THAT was clear enough in this whole rubbish over greetings or no greetings. Inconsistent interpretations by the very people who were meant to put Hogwarts back on track was...frustrating. While earlier on in the term they were all reprimanded for not showing respect in greeting him, now they were all told to believe that arriving in fearful silence was the way to show respect. It was all dragon dung.

As he moved silently over to a spot beside Zoryn, he recalled a few conversations he had had with others recently about the need for balance. Hogwarts had gone from one extreme to the other...and it was obvious that neither was what Hogwarts actually needed to thrive. Why couldn't they have more Professor Nobles around? He was strict but fair...a proper manifestation of these two extremes and, as he had explained, here to educate them and not try to befriend them. Which is all Derf had ever felt when there was food in lessons...a sort of bribe to appear friendly and hospitable rather than focus on being an educator. Which, well, was what some of these new professors brought to the table - the emphasis on them being here to teach not make friends with their students.

Again...balance. Things weren't just...black and white, you know?

It was all this that kept the Hufflepuff from slipping up and greeting the man, his thoughts lounder than anything else. So he simply looked forward at Professor Fletcher and waited for class to begin.

Skyler stood there and following suit, finally gave the professor a polite nod. If she would lose house points for that then oh well, at least she was trying to be respectful. She did like the scenery so maybe the scenery would make up for loss of house points.

Juni wasn’t in no hurry to get to today’s divination lesson. Why? She was in the middle of a getting a cold. So she had been taking cold potions to fight it off but she still didn’t feel at a 100 percent. Out of all of these new professors Fletcher was her…. Well the one she could tolerate the most. He was at least halfway decent to her anyway. His classes had been for the most part fun and interesting or as interesting as divination could be.

As she entered the classroom, which was very unclassroom like today. Which was weird for the professor and his lessons. But she wasn’t going to complain. This actually put her in a better mood now. With the way she was feeling, that was a big help. She passed the professor on the way to find chair. The scenery of classroom still made her wonder what they were going to be doing. She found a chair and stood by it. As still as she could be.

It was the concession he could accept. The students no longer greeted upon entry but they had the good sense for a polite nod of acknowledgement all the same...most of them anyway. Calvin inclined his head in reply to the Hufflepuff Prefect by way of returning her nod. Good she’d remembered to hold her tongue. It’d been months since this became a “regular” thing.

Another student to remember there were still silent ways of being polite. Katharos wasn’t one of his problem students so this didn’t surprise him by a large degree. It was almost expected of the Ravenclaw by now. The man inclined his head in response; greeting enough for now.

This one got just the smallest raise of Fletcher’s brows for the position he’d taken up away from everyone else. Any further and the man may have said something but as the boy was still close enough, he left it at the raised brows. There was no need for stirring a fuss. The Divination Professor was well aware that if you fussed about every little thing then your fussing became almost ineffective.

For all the fire and defiance in Ms. Spinnet’s stare, there was nothing but indifference that greeted her. Merlin knew what battle Spinnet thought she’d won this time but the man didn’t have the time or the patience to try figuring it out. Spirited girl that one, to her own detriment most times. The fact that despite whatever new spark she’d come to class with, she hadn’t actually said anything was good enough for him. The man had greater concerns than a teen girl that thought the world spun on its axis because she willed it to.

Calvin watched the Slytherin enter quietly. He watched her look around. Momentarily, he wondered if there would be any form of acknowledgement but that came a second later when she nodded. The man inclined his head to her with equal politeness.

In the almost deafening silence, the sudden greeting was almost jarring. It brought an immediate scowl to Fletcher’s face. He’d explained the change many classes ago and yet.....there was always one, wasn’t there?

“That’ll be 25 push ups, Ms. McKinley. The rules are very clear and we will follow them at all times in my classroom.” As he’d already mentioned. Of course, he could understand the impulse, it was polite to greet someone if you walk into a room and find them already there, especially a professor—but Scrimgeour gave the order and there was no reason to go against it. No speaking was no speaking.

It was good to see the Gryffindor first year had learned to control himself. It had taken some firm guidance—to put it lightly—but they were at the point where Lucas Dakest did not make him cringe. Don’t get him wrong, there was nothing wrong with enthusiasm, but the misplaced kind was deadly. So pleased was he that Mr. Dakest came in quietly and fell right in line that he was willing to ignore the boy’s lack of a nod in his direction. It wasn’t a requirement. It wasn’t something to make a fuss about.

This one earned a raise of his brow too when she walked in....then out before coming back again. There was....the smallest quirk of his lips that could almost be mistaken for a smile were it any wider. It was an amusing work around, he could give her that.

Calvin nodded his reply to the Head Girl when she came in and did so first. Like Mr. Katharos, and a few others admittedly, she wasn’t a problem student in his lessons and that was enough to keep her off his radar. She was a bit fidgety at times but never spoke out of turn or cause disruptions. That was good enough for him.

Fletcher watched the once again Hufflepuff Prefect take a spot next to Ms. Spinnet. While he no longer worried himself about the boy and his potential to be a disruption, Ms. Spinnet was still a wild card that could bring others down. He had little doubt she would be able to drag the boy down with her, if for no other reason but his concern and trying to be a martyr for whatever cause he would suddenly believe had manifested. He would keep an eye out just in case.

The silence persisted in the room that did not at all resemble a room even after the quidditch captain walked in. Good. After the Slytherin’s disruption earlier, it was nice to have the deafening silence returning. By the look of his watch, it was about time to begin the lesson. The silence was about to be put to an end.

“Good afternoon, students.” He greeted, pausing to wait for the standard, chorused return greeting that sometimes sounded more like mumbling to him. “I don’t need to point out the obvious change in scenery for today, it serves a particular purpose as you will soon come to know more about.” They needed this sort of space and with the grounds currently being wracked by the storm, natural fresh air and the “great outdoors” weren’t exactly an option.

Calvin’s gaze swept over the students, checking they were paying attention and not too distracted by the rather out of place setting.

“I’d like everyone to have a look around if you haven’t already.” Again, he paused to allow reactions and the sort. “Without any further props put out yet, or much in the way of equipment to give things away, I’d like you to use your knowledge of Divination to make an educated Very important, ”guess as to the sort of divination we will be practising today. curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

Nettie had been thinking about what she wanted to do when she got back through school alllllll through winter break. For once in her life, she felt extremely nervous as she walked in to the Divination classroom. Or maybe it was a mixture of excited and nervous? Excited that she was taking a stand like this - nervous that it would blow up even worse than she was imagining. Still, this was what she had to do. Enough was enough. Even a young girl such as herself knew this was getting ridiculous, and it was about time people took a stand to things.

She was going to greet him, but as soon as she had entered the room, the lesson started. Well, there went that idea. She had been counting on greeting him and breaking her first rule of the day. Well, technically second - the first had been broken when she had clasped the golden snitch necklace Royland had gotten her for Christmas around her neck this morning. She flipped her hair over her shoulder, trying to draw attention to it without being too obvious.

Here goes nothing. She raised her hand to make her EDUCATED guess, like he said. "Aeromancy?" she guessed. She wanted to break rules - but not do push ups.

Skyler looked around the environment for some clues, although, the 'room' was actually empty, more or less. It was a stormy day outside so they coule not go outside and look at the sky. Maybe there was a water sourse in the room. Aha. Skyler came up with an a swer almost pretty quickly.
"Full moon water scrying professor? If there is a water sourse in here?" Skyler asked.

Alastair thought about it, they were outside, but this wasn't astrology class.

"Are we trying pyromancy?" Alastair guessed. He didn't see a fire pit or any wood, but he couldn't think of anything else. Divination wasn't his strong suit.

Max had learned his lesson from previous classes and so his lips had remained very much closed up until this point. They did curl into a slight grimace, however, when Natalie was ordered to do pushups. Twenty-five of them. Yikes. Good luck, McKinley.

He gave his face a quick rub, trying to neutralise his expression before raising a hand in the air. "Geomancy?"

Soil. Rocks. Sand. They were all things that were outside, so.....

Maybe?

"Good afternoon, professor." Bettie greeting back. Bettie thought about the question for a moment and silently asked herself what divination practice would you do in an open grass area. We did the fire one. When she thought the answer came to her she raised her hand. "Would it be reading of clouds or stars?"

Truthfully, Natalie hadn't noticed the deafening silence in the classroom. Her mind was far too busy to recognize that she had broken the silence... and a rule. One rule out of a hundred. Speak. Don't speak. Don't speak unless spoken to. It was getting a bit tiring, wasn't it?

Now, Natalie, up until this point had been a very strict rule follower (for the most part) and would have normally apologized and proceeded with the push ups. In fact, her face turned red with embarrassment and her heart started pounding at the idea of public humiliation.

...

And then it went back to normal. The young Slytherin watched the Professor and his cold, unfriendly eyes. There was no point. They would never reward her for being a good student anyway. And if they did, it was because she would have given up her freedom to be a little minion of theirs. And she wasn't going to have it.

"Actually, sir, I think I'll just leave," she said calmly, and tiredly. She was really quite tired these days, so she would rather go take a nap and never see this dude's face again. So she picked up her bag and headed for the door. She didn't have the gift of seer-stuff anyway, so it was really quite pointless.

.... Yikes.

Zoryn was STILL very pleased with herself, but she did wince for Natalie. Just a bit. Not enough to be noticed (hopefully because she still had the leg up here ok), but enough to show empathy. Yes. Zoryn Spinnet also exemplified real, human emotions every now and then. It wasn't all too often, but the occasional experience was more than enough.

Her attention quickly turned to Derf, who had just joined her in standing silently. There was power in numbers 'n solidarity. And despite the fact that she had been highkey judging him about turning Kennedy in, Zoryn quickly found it in her heart to forgive Derf for his momentary lapse of all good judgement. So she gave him a smile as if they weren't in the most uncomfortable class with the most uncomfortable block of mozzarella cheese as their Professor.

As far as Zoryn was concerned, Fletcher had one a couple of battles but Z. Spinnet had won the war. And this class? It was irrelevant.

"Entomancy," she offered, bored. Zoryn didn't actually care what omancy they were learning today.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

As expected, the man hadn’t been willing to let the little slip up go. They were barely back from the break, surely some forgetting of the million and one rules would be expected—especially with this double standard where only half the professors followed them and required them in the first place.

Fletcher had done no form of changing over the winter break. Unfortunately, that was expected too.

Jessa winced when Nat suggested she leave as counter to his instructions, but the man was (thankfully) handling it—thankfully only because of the anxiety of having to do it herself—so Jessa simply raised her hand and waited to be acknowledged.............what was that around Nettie’s neck???????????

Despite not being the one with this accessory, the Head Girl now wanted to fall through the floor to avoid whatever would happen next with this deliberate attempt at defiance.

Could she go back to the break now—no, skip ahead to summer?

”Austromancy, maybe.” She offered up. There wasn’t really much to go on, but she supposed it was an option.

What could they be studying had been on her mind since she walked in. She didn’t reply as she took a seat. Juni bit her lip when Natalie said that she would just leave rather than do the push up. The Sixth year watched apprehensively to see how things were going to play out, glancing between the professor and the Slytherin. Then Na left.

It took her a few seconds to get back in the groove of being in the lesson. Listening to the others answers. When Nettie answered, she spotted the something around her neck. What was she wearing. Jewelry? This made her pretty nervous, she eyed her for a bit. Really Nettie? Continuing to listen to the others answers. After a little while she raised her own hand. ”ceraunoscopy” Even Though it wasn’t storming looking at all but that could be changed with just a wave of a wand.

Derf was distracted - which was something already so easily done - but the exchange going on between Professor Fletcher and Natalie was VERY distracting and he had hoped her self preservation would have made her just accept the 25 and get them done...because now, well, now he was certain she was facing a detention for dismissing herself. And his stomach gave an uncomfortable lurch while his mouth ran a bit dry.

But he also knew that a dry mouth would not be an excuse not to say SOMETHING and really all Derf wanted to do was ask a question. The room had been charmed to look this way, it was not natural, and anything that happened within the confines of this "room" in terms of the outside conditions would be the intent of the professor, right? Just like one could not perform Meteromancy by looking at the ceiling in the Great Hall...they couldn't do anything with the magically created environment here either, right?

But no, he was not allowed to ask questions apparently. It had only earned him physical punishments in previous lessons.

So...something that required a decent amount of space for movement?

"Gyromancy," he offered up briefly as his prediction. The want and NEED to explain why and how he had come to this conclusion ever present in his eyes, but he was also taking some of Professor Noble's advice on less being more when it came to this follically challenged man.

Though he really liked Zoryn's answer LOADS better and the twinkle in his eyes he offered her when he ventured a glance after her answer said as much.

Calvin may have told the girl it was a fair guess, being outside where atmospheric conditions could properly be observed and interpreted, but instead the man found himself looking at the shiny snitch hung about her neck. The hair flip was unnecessary, the man would’ve recognised it a mile away and he was less than amused by the gesture of open defiance as he saw it. Being told not to wear jewellery then wearing some to a lesson, well, few things got bolder than that right now so her response was entirely ignored in favour of the man wordlessly accio-ing the necklace.

Silently, he turned it over in his hands a few times, considering his course of action. There was no need to cause disruption during his class but there wouldn’t be a slap on the wrist for making a conscious effort to defy a rule that was so easily followed. The girl no doubt was hoping for this. “It’s a fine piece.” He conceded quietly. “You’ll present yourself at my office if you want it back, or wait til you arrive at detention, whichever is at your greatest convenience.” He continued, his tone deceptively calm and polite as he banished the piece of jewellery to his office. He, however, had no intention of giving it back.

Moving on.

“Full moon water scrying would be an option, yes, if it wasn’t currently the afternoon and an actual full moon.” That topic was better taught at night, as he was sure she’d agree if she gave it more thought. Calvin had to take pause here and glance around the surrounding area for what could possibly have given the boy the impression they’d be having a repeat lesson. No prop gave insight to them burning anything today. “We’ve already covered pyromancy, Mr. Hornfield, and while a little revision wouldn’t hurt quite a few of you,” some of those essays he received were....questionable at best, “We do no have a fire pit out here, or anything to burn.”

Pyromancy had been the first lesson taught, back in September. Revision would come later as the exams drew closer. Not now when there were still other topics to be covered.

”A fair guess, Mr. Carden.” He told the Prefect. “The outdoors would be the optimal setting to read the patterns formed in the earth or while using a bit of earth to get clearer insight into future events.”

See how painless that was? Question asked, offer answer, no one does push ups, no one leaves disgruntled. Some students were finally starting to understand the pattern.

He had to admit, on a larger scale he wasn’t filled with the urge to cringe at the response of the students. He’d asked for sensible guesses based on what they saw and they were giving just that.

Calvin hadn’t been expecting words from this one until she’d gotten the task done and moved on to answering the question. For that reason—and the outrageous nature of the words—the man had taken an extra moment to process them. The man deadpanned at the Slytherin, his lips moving into a hard line about his face. The door slammed shut with a loud, echoing bang before the girl could get close to it, his indignation difficult to mask. “I don’t remember giving you that choice, Ms. McKinley. In the event you’ve forgotten, this is school. At school, you attend classes. In these classes you do not dismiss yourself or choose when youwant to leave.” The break had clearly been too long for her if she was now forgetting her station as a student.

Walking out? Leaving a lesson because she felt like it? “This isn’t a free for all. You will complete the push ups now and turn your attention once more to the lesson or you will have your laps woefully extended at tomorrow’s S.O.R.E.” Those were her options, her only options. “But you will not be leaving and you will be seeing me for detention.” You’d think she would have learned from Prichard attempting the same back in September. If the man hadn’t allowed the boy to leave on his whim, why would he allow her now?

Why a student felt that if she didn’t like what was happening she could simply be disrespectful by excusing herself from a lesson prematurely was beyond him, but she, like several students still, was sadly mistaken. He would set her straight presently.

Hell may have indeed been ready to freeze over. McKinely taking leave of her senses while Spinnet behaved appropriately and answered the question with some amount of logic. It was almost a jarring reversal. Calvin had honestly been prepared for the opposite. Nevertheless, he nodded at the girl’s suggestion. “An interesting branch that would certainly be possible out here, yes.”

Were he a little more stunned, he may have even tacked on a “good job, Spinnet” but the man was not so far gone just yet.

Awfully anxious this one. By now the man had taken the girl’s anxious outward appearance to be a part of herself as a person. He couldn’t recall a time when the Ravenclaw didn’t look like she was privy to information about the sky falling and waiting with nothing but dread for it to finally happen. Nothing to really be done about that.

Rather than try to decipher her latest source of worry, the man simply nodded at her guess. “The wind is another possibility while outside, yes.”

Calvin gave something of a nod to the next answer. “Indeed, it would be good for that but more appropriate should we have decided to go outside and observe the storm taking place out there.” In order to intercept the thunder and lightening. A fair guess all the same.

He could see the distraction in the Hufflepuff’s eyes and half expected him to throw himself into the thick of things. Suffice to say the man was pleased when he didn’t. Wasn’t life so much simpler this way? Of course, it could be all the more so if students weren’t actively trying to walk out and tempt the boy toward madness.

“This wide bit of space would be ideal for that branch, yes.” And good on him for staying focused despite his obvious distraction.

“It’s good to see you all putting some thought into your answers rather than offering up the first thing to come to mind.” As the man was now firmly convinced by now that some did whenever he gave homework.

“And that you could readily use prior knowledge of the subject to narrow down the choices.” No repeats either, it was refreshing and gave the man hope that maybe—just maybe—they weren’t entirely clueless despite some insisting to be.

Today, however, we will not be using nature to uncover the unseen, but something along more manmade lines.” At this point, he removed the disillusionment charms placed over the table by where he stood. Atop the table were several quivers filled with arrows, enough for everyone present. Next to them, bows. “Belomancy, the art of using arrows to divine, answers. I’d like one fact you know about this art, or your opinion on why it may or may not be an accurate means of deciphering answers.”

In a moment, they would even be using these things, but not until he went through safety regulations and a few well placed threats guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety. “I’d also like each of you to come up and collect a bow and a quiver—I see just one arrow zipping about or any form of folly or horsing around and the individuals will be swiftly dealt with. You are merely to strap the quivers about your shoulder and keep a firm hold on your bow until instructed otherwise where they are concerned.”

Was he clear with that?

OOC: The second question is now up! Have your students give one thing they know about belomancy or just their insight into why it can or can’t be considered an accurate form of divination. Also been instructed to grab a bow and quiver. I’ll be moving the lesson on in roughly 36 hours from the time of this post.
