Default Headmistress' Office

Past a series of lined up armoured suits, whose helmets move as if they were following you, a large stone gargoyle awaits. Intricate etches can be seen on this guardian that keeps unwanted visitors from getting past it. No matter how persuasive or good of a sweet talker you may be, the stoic gargoyle will only reveal a spiral staircase that leads up to the headmistress' office if the password is said. Unless you're one of the few that know the correct phrase to say, you will have to practice patience by sitting on the cushioned chairs placed on either side of the entrance.

Once inside the office, you will quickly realize that everything has been placed with purpose. Curtains have been evenly drawn apart to bring in the natural lighting without there being too much light, and scattered about are lavender candles that never seem to lower no matter how long the wick burns. Books of all kinds fill several bookcases, their titles covering topics from hexes and curses to ancient runes and history. A number of interesting-looking artefacts (ranging from a claw that once belonged to a sphinx, cracked bright red ashwinder eggs, a fossilized skeleton of a White River Monster, and various gems and coins) rest in glass curio cabinets, free of any dust and heavily protected. On a shelf closest to her desk rests a polished gramophone, which is known to play vinyl records of Stevie Nicks, among others, from time to time.

In the centre of the room stands a grand desk and and two visitor chairs. On the desk itself are various frames containing pictures that capture the headmistress' fondest memories: her wearing a Head Prefect badge on the grounds of Ilvermorny, her and several others having just made a great historical find deep within an Egyptian tomb, her holding a newborn clad in a pink blanket with a man's body cropped off, and several more. The remainder of the desk consists of neat piles of paperwork and an intricate golden hourglass, covered in runes, that will begin steadily dropping sand the moment conversation begins, signifying how much time you have left in the office.

OOC: Please post waiting outside of the gargoyle unless your character knows the password or is being accompanied inside by Headmistress Hawthorne or a professor.

As soon as the feast was over, Scrimgeour started making his way up to the second floor. Along the way, he had to bark after a few students who didn't report immediately to their dormitory. They were lucky to have encountered him in slightly better spirits, in which his stomach was full and all he wanted to do was sit in front of the fire before turning in for the night.

The old man paid no attention to the suits of armour as he walked down the corridor, getting closer and closer to the entrance to what was now his office. He heard their helmets turning, but he knew that they wouldn't attack him. This was his school now.

But apparently the gargoyle did not get the memo. Needless to say, he was rather displeased when it didn't automatically step aside for him the moment he was standing face-to-face with it.

"This is Headmaster Scrimgeour speaking. Step aside, gargoyle," he ordered gruffly, already beginning to lose patience with the slab of stone.

Naturally, the gargoyle did not budge an inch while the old man approached it. It even remained stoic as ever even after he demanded entry. Regardless of what the man said, the statue was not going to leap to the side and allow him to tread up the spiral staircase it was guarding. It had no plans on moving at all for anyone in fact.

Its loyalty still remained with the woman who once resided there.

The lack of movement from the gargoyle was getting on Scrimgeour's nerves. His metal hand balled up into a fist, and he was on the verge of pulling out his wand to make the chunk of stone move if it wasn't going to willingly let him go past it.

"I, Headmaster Julian Scrimgeour, order you to move," he grunted at the gargoyle, giving it one last chance to change its mind. This was a disgrace to someone who was in charge of the school, an ex-Auror, and recipient of an Order of Merlin, First Class!

But, again, there was no movement. Was this some sort of revenge from that Hawthorne woman?

At this point, his left hand drew a wand from his pocket and casted nonverbal spell after nonverbal spell. In spite of his efforts, the gargoyle still did not move. Riled up, he was tempted to blast the statue into smithereens. Instead the old man slammed his metal fist against the stone, affecting it in no way whatsoever, and stormed down the corridor. Surely that dismal-looking Deputy Head would know how to get around the stubbornness of the gargoyle.

Immediately after the feast, a still panic-stricken Maddie dashed for the second floor. She had to find Hawthorne and convince her to stay before Sergeant Scrimgeour officially took over. She took the stairs two at a time and hurried down the corridor, determined to get to the gargoyles before the Sergeant did. If he caught her out and about, she'd be one burnt Badger in no time.

As she turned the corner, and the gargoyles came into view, her gaze immediately landed on Scrimgeour, and she paused in her tracks. HOLY MERLIN, he got up here fast! She squeezed in between two columns and watched with her breath held. She'd been a good ways down the corridor and was behind the man, so she doubted seriously she'd been seen.

Was he...trying to order the gargoyles around? She rolled her eyes. This guy better be one heck of a Defense professor, because as of this moment, he had nothing good going for him in Maddie's eyes. For a moment, she thought he was about to go to war with the gargoyles, but in the end, he stormed off in another direction. She didn't even want to know where he was going. Just the fact that he'd almost caught her was enough to scare her.

Once he was gone, she peeked out from behind the columns, gave the gargoyles two thumbs up, and then dashed for the common room.

Jackson noted the new professor's forgiveness with a nod of the head. He hadn't really deemed forgiveness to be necessary, but Jackson supposed he was grateful to know that he was forgiven? Up some stairs and soon the gargoyles were in view. He stopped before them, unsure if the new guy would know this password from Headmaster Scrimgeour already. "This is Professor Petrov, here for the Headmaster please," he said to the gargoyle closest to him. Jackson kept his eyes forward for now, feeling the seconds go by like hours. It was now getting late and if he was dismissed, he would be heading right up to bed. Would he be required to stick around or would the curfew thing send him right back up to his tower? Jackson decided that he would let the professor/s decide that though, because his mouth would not be the next to open.

Alek gave the young man a nod. He wouldn't get a thank you. "You may go to your common room. Make sure you get there before curfew." He said with a pointed look, waiting for the prefect to leave. They didn't need this infant waiting around listening to adult conversations.

Alek placed himself next to the Gargoyle and waited for the Headmaster to arrive, hoping it wouldn't take too long. He was very tired from setting up camp and checking on the creatures.

Jackson hadn't realized it, but his teeth were clenched. There was no real reason for it… why was he feeling upset? Perhaps it was the realization that he had enjoyed the professors of previous terms. The ‘new regime’ still made sense to him, but standing here with the newest addition to the staff was making him realize how curt he had gotten. What had happened to the care-free rambunctious 14 year old he was last year? And the imaginative obnoxious 13 year old he was before that? He missed the element of fun to be honest. He could feel a growing urge to hide out nearby and try to see what he could overhear… but then he realized that there was no way unless he somehow got wind of the password and snuck in. Dilemmas. “Goodnight, Professor,” he said, with a nod of his head, before turning and heading towards the stairs.

It watched in silence as the fifth year Prefect and the man approached. The gargoyle recognised the student, having seen him walk past several times before over the years, but the man it knew not. And that was another man, along with the alleged headmaster, that the statue was not going to allow passage up the stairs to the office. Call it stubborn, but the gargoyle knew a thing or two about loyalty.

Scrimgeour's office was not in the room beyond the statue, and anyone the old man hired was not welcome there either.
