Emma Watson skips school for The Bling Ring filming this March

Emma Watson updated fans via her website today that she will be taking time off from school to film The Bling Ring, to be directed by Sofia Coppola.

I'm taking my 3rd term out of Worcester College to make sure I don't compromise my studies or my part in the film.

Isn't the last term in Oxford the essay term, which you could technically do anywhere right, its pretty much unsupervised? Sounds like she's just gonna be writing it in Hollywood! So I think the title of this article is really harsh!

Either way, what's wrong with her taking more time out and doing the degree at her pace?

Agree, the Title sounds harsh :/ I don't think at all Emma would just leave School/University. It's to important for her. She said it many Times enough. I think she will still do Things for Uni next to filming. She might not have much Freetime maybe, but it's Emma and learning is her Passion (like she said) and she is not staying for Months in LA.

But I don't understand her Message at one Point. Does this mean she will study a bit longer?

Oh no actually it's usually not only essays here in third term. Also, every essay is necessarily followed by a tutorial, which makes things harder
I don't exactly know how she's going to do it, but things I could think of is that she either submits the essays from the set/wherever she is in third term, or that she already has done enough courses here at Oxford to accound for Junior College year at Brown. (as visiting students sometimes seem to get a lot of credits for what they do here.)

I thought she want to take time off of filming and go to college. That what happen everytime something came up and Emma heard about it and want to do it so she skipping school and go filming it. I am confusses she say she want to be normal and be like everybody else. I love her but she cofusse me sometime lol.

It's my impression that she's taking time away from Oxford in order to make this film in LA, which means she'd have to make it up at some point, unless, as somebody else said, she's already got enough credits to satisfy the requirements for junior year at Brown. Knowing what I do about OU and how demanding it is, I've often wondered how Emma manages to juggle doing photo shoots and films, etc., while still keeping up with the rigors of her academic schedule. More power to her, though, if she can manage it all successfully!

Whatever Emma wants to do is up to Emma. I'm sure she will finish school, but it is her choice to figure out what and when she wants to do it. Lovely photo too

What I really want to laugh at is this:Emma can do what she wants!! if she wants to go to school awesome, but bottom line is she doesnt need her degree-she is CHOOSING to attend college. She can go at her own pace. She wants to pursue acting so she will capitalize on opportunities. She herself even said she doesnt want to compromise her studies. So this was smart of her to stop school. She isnt saying she isnt graduating/not getting her degree and should she decide to hold off to take advantage of these opportunities, I am all for it! more Emma and Rupert doing movies each year, the better!!!!!

It's Emma's choice. I agree and support what she does with her life. I mean she is really smart, she got 9A*s while filming harry potter so i think she is capable . I love the photo as well!

I thought previously Emma wanted to finish off school first, but I guess being offered a part in a movie is too hard to refuse. I support her in the acting, she is a brilliant student already.

it's not like she is in any hurry to finish school. she has enough money to support herself, she doesn't need to finish school quickly to get a job. school is just like a hobby for her i guess. same with filming. if she feels like doing school, she will do it and vice versa

I think she should do whatever she wants. It is her life, after all. We all enjoy seeing her on screen... and let's be honest, there are ways to acquire a degree without even stepping foot inside a classroom aside for exams. I say everyone should let her live her life. School will always be there for her when she is ready to pick it up again. It is a constant in her life, whereas work in the field she so clearly loves, may not always be an option.

I don't think she's "skipping." It sounds like she may be finishing up her 3rd term online or something. The sentence about not compromising her studies seems to support that.

The semester is almost over, so I doubt she would "skip" now.

the title is misleading. Emma isn't skipping school at all, she has permission to postpone or differ a semester. I am a graduate of Oxford U. For someone like her she is allowed more freedom than other undergrads. Basically Emma is just delaying a semester of her Oxford term. The title ought to be changed to something more suitable and apt. She is a very smart girl and she can easily film and study at the same time

She is unbelievably wealthy and the choice to take a break from school and make a film is entirely hers! it is a luxury many could not afford to take. She seems like a lovely person and I dont begrudge her one bit. Her life....her choices.
