Default Gobbledegook Field Trip

After walking into the heatless, emerald green fire, you notice hundreds of other fireplaces and hearths zooming past. Your brain is unable to clearly register the locations as you zoom past them at great speed. Your body feels as if it is spinning very fast, and a deafening roar fills your ears. Suddenly the spinning and roaring comes to an end. After whipping off some soot that got on your pants and allowing your eyes to adjust as you step out into the lobby of Gringotts Wizarding Bank, you realize that pairs of beady goblin eyes are staring at you.

After a moment of silence, a number of those goblins start stepping forward. One of them awaits for the arrival of your headmistress, clearly wanting to say something to her in the goblin's raspy tongue. The others, however, approach you and your classmates, holding out black drawstring bags with the Gringotts emblem on it in gold -- inside each are various pamphlets about the bank and sound financing, a brochure for the tour you will be going on today, and a free "I toured Gringotts!" button.

OOC: Welcome to the Gobbledegook field trip! At the present time, everyone is taking their self-led tour of the Goblin Mint.

Text Cut: Goblin Mint Tour Brochure
THE MEZZANINE

Start your tour of the Gringotts Goblin Mint in the Mezzanine. Displayed on the walls are seven glass mosaics that were originally commissioned to celebrate the opening of the bank in 1474. The celebrated goblin Gringott is prominent in each of these mosaics, some featuring him at the entrance of the bank, at one of the tellers booths, counting coins in his office, riding one of the carts, and even feeding the original dragon kept in the depths of the bank.

While this room may not be as exciting as what is to come, take a moment to step back in time. A detailed history of the bank can be learned through numerous portraits and exhibits that have been strategically placed around the room in a maze-like fashion. Learn more about Gringott, how the bank and the mint itself grew, and other facts about the bank that you may never have heard of before. A few goblins are standing by if there are any questions or further clarifications need to be made.

Before moving on to the next room, be sure to visit the Collector's Corner. Here you can marvel at some of the most beautiful coins created here at the Gringotts Goblin Mint and see how Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts have changed over the centuries in addition to special issue coins.

THE GALLERY

Down a flight of stairs is the Gallery, which has been divided into seven different areas to help you better understand the coin and medal making -- or minting -- process. Each area is accompanied with portraits of different Gringotts goblins completing the specific task being described.
  • ART: The coins you use every day are little pieces of history in your pocket, and they are also tiny works of art, carefully designed and sculpted by Gringotts' finest goblin artists and coin design committees. It is intricate work -- but well worth the effort!

  • DIE MAKING: The die shop is where the tools that cut, squeeze, and shape the coins to perfection are made. Thousands of dies are created each year with painstaking precision. Each die is exactly alike, and they are used to strike millions of coins. Making perfect dies can be a complex process, but it is necessary as every coin must be perfect. Every Gringotts goblin has pride in producing only the best quality coins for the entire wizarding world.

  • BLANKING: In this department, round blanks are punched out of metal strips using extreme force. The metals used by Gringotts to create coins are fed through a blanking press, which is like a giant cookie-cutter, and punches out round, plain-surfaced disks called blanks. The leftover strip, called webbing, is chopped and recycled.

  • ANNEALING & UPSETTING: This is where the blanks are prepared for striking. The blanks are heated in an annealing furnace to soften the metal of the blank. They are then poured through a huge washer and dryer. Finally, the shiny blanks are rolled through an upsetting mill that raises a smooth, hard edge around each blank, creating a rim that helps with the striking process. After this process, the blank is called a planchet.

  • STRIKING: Two dies -- obverse and reverse, or heads and tails -- are placed onto the coining press. The planchets travel to the presses on a conveyor. With one mighty strike, the designs from the steel dies are transferred to the planchet creating a genuine Gringotts-made coin.

  • INSPECTING: This is where every coin must be in "mint condition." After striking, press operators use magnifying glasses to spot-check each new coin to be sure that the mint's strict quality standards have been met. If a flaw is spotted, all of the coins in the trap are scrapped and sent to a coin destruction machine, called a waffler, to be recycled.

  • BAGGING: After the coins have been inspected, they travel to a counting station. All coins are counted and poured into giant bulk bags. The filled bags are weighed, sealed shut, and loaded onto a pallet that is taken to the mint's vaults. The finished coins then begin their journey to the bank's reserve and into your pocket!
At the end of the Gallery, a heavy iron-wrought door awaits that only Gringotts goblins can open. Fortunately, a goblin stands guard of this door and will allow you to pass by on your tour today.

THE MINT

After descending down what had to have been hundreds of stairs, you will realize that the temperature has gotten drastically hotter. This isn't because you have worked up a sweat -- rather, you have just arrived outside the Gringotts Goblin Mint. Before you stands a door, on which the following sign is displayed in both Gobbledegook and English:

Pboxeew digs xaugiom. Mimgimt im kbotbehh.
Proceed with caution. Minting in progress.

Making your way through the threshold, you will see numerous goblins hard at work. With your very own eyes, you can view how a Galleon, Sickle, or Knut is made. The blanking, annealing, upsetting, striking, inspecting, and bagging processes all occur inside this large room. The first thing you will see is the large blanking press, and the last thing seen will be bags of coins being promptly whisked away.

Please keep your hands at your sides during this part of the tour. Gringotts will not be held responsible for any accidents should you not follow this simple request.

You are allowed to speak with the goblins present here, but keep your conversation brief as they have very important work to do.

THE GIFT SHOP

Once you reach the end of your tour of the mint, you will come across another door and be directed to yet another set of stairs. Though there are just as many as it took to get down to the mint, the cool change in temperature makes the ascent bearable. Soon background music will begin to fill your ears and you will eventually find yourself in the Gift Shop.

Located around the corner from the bank's main lobby, the Gift Shop offers coin sets, commemorative coins, numismatic collectibles, books, games, and mint souvenirs. If you wish to make a purchase, take your desired items up to the goblin at the service counter.
If you wish for your character to say anything in Gobbledegook throughout this field trip, simply translate what they would say in English to Gobbledegook using the Modified Reverse setting on this website. Please make sure to leave an OOC translating what they said in English or somehow incorporate the translation in the body of your post.

Here you are allowed to post your primary Hogwarts character (the one in your post-bit) and one other student of your choosing! ^____^

She was wrong. Traveling by floo powder was just as bad as port key. The spinning, the whirring, and the feeling of wooshing about past hundreds of other fireplaces had been sickening. Her legs felt foreign to her as she stepped out onto the floor of Gringotts.

Once her eyes had refocused and the spinning in her head stopped, she was able to brush off the powder and soot. As she looked up, lots of eyes were watching her and a small group of goblins approached. Realizing that they were there to offer information and a cool button, she gave them a bright thankful smile. "Oh, thank you for the button and papers." She made sure to look each of the goblins in the eye as she said her thank yous then proudly placed the button on her top for everyone to see.

Not wanting to block the exit for the other Hogwarts students, she made her way towards the side of the area and waited for the field trip to begin.

The goblin's dark beady eyes were staring at the fireplace, waiting for the wand-bearers to start coming through. Tearlung was not fond of them to say the least, but business was business. If anything they would actually come to appreciate the hard work his kind did on a daily basis.

At the sight of the first child wander-bearer, the Head Goblin internally groaned. He remained standing where he was without saying a word, however. He was here for the headmistress. The others could deal with the children.

Default Skylar ... and Ethan Denton (1st year Snake) also wanted to come
YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers

The whirling sensation was one that Skylar wasn't sure she would ever get used to. She never understood why people preferred floo and portkey travel over brooms, except the fact that brooms were slightly more limiting as to where one could go. Standing up, she dusted off her nice clothes just sat a moment, willing herself to not puke her guts out. Potential internship, she reminded herself, and once she was feeling stronger and the spinning had stopped, she stood and went over towards one of the goblins handing out something from his bag. Okay, no offense, but she didn't really want a button. She wanted some inkling as to what she was going to be doing after Hogwarts. And yet, there was this voice prodding her to be polite.

Taking the button from the stout creature, she gave him a small smile. "Thank you. Skylar Diggory." She said, introducing herself. "Hopeful cursebreaker." You know, just so they knew.

******

Tumbling out from the fireplace, the first year Denton boy, had the widest of smiles as he rolled onto the stone floor of Gringotts. Because that was actually rather fun and felt like he was tumbling in the air. He stood up as quickly as he was able, standing by the pretttyyyy older Hufflepuff girl (Emmalyn) and grinned when one of the creatures handed him a button. Was this what it felt like to wear a Prefect's Badge??? He was going to have to ask his father. Or maybe he'd snoop some more when he got home and finally find where his father stashed his former badge. Or did he have to return it? Were badges meant to be returned at the end of the year? Maybe he should ask his captain?

"Thankssss!!!" Ethan said with all the enthusiasm of a twelve year old boy. OKAY, so he didn't actually take Gobbledegook yet, but maybeeee he would, if the trip went well. Although he was mostly here because it was a free ticket to Diagon Alley. Wait, if they were good, were they going to get to have ice cream at Floreans? He should have owled his father to meet here and sneak him an ice cream. But alas, as a twelve year old, he was not that prepared at all.

Default *watches all the human children*

Sturnik, as per his role as Head of Security, scrutinized every new face that entered his bank. Today, especially, with an abundance of barely supervised human children, he was hyper attentive.

He'd wait until he had a full inventory of the visitors before making his usual rounds.

As for the visitors, he expected the best behavior. He was fully prepared to ban people for life (and possibly extend that ban a few generations). Nobody would want to be banned from their bank.

Floo travel wasn’t really something that bothered Stasya too much. Considering her mama wasn’t entirely confident about overseas Apparition and it was easier to Floo to her grandparents house than to deal with Portkeys. If she ignored all the whirling views of fireplaces, it was less jarring than Portkey travel too, except for the soot issue. But that was easily fixed too, as Stasya managed to brush off the soot clinging to her clothes relatively quickly. Although there was a bit of a spinning feeling as she’d returned to a fully standing position near the others who had already arrived. Emmalyn, Sky and another Slytherin. Which made her feel a bit more comfortable, really, as it had been weird to think of the trip as just including Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs.

Of which, it seemed like she was the first Gryffindor to arrive, so she felt the need to represent. Plus, she’d really wanted to practice her Gobbledegook, so once she was confident that she’d regained her equilibrium, she’d sent the two grumpy-looking goblins a smile, even as she’d received a bag from another. “Tsamp you,” she said, directing it honestly at all the goblins. Because they all deserved thanks for letting them come to visit and learn about whatever exactly the headmistress had planned. Therefore, she could say ‘Thank you’ to them in their own language.

...a few seconds later, Maddie appeared in the lobby. "See, Emmalyn. I told you it was nothing. You did great!" she said. She had actually almost volunteered to help the slightly younger girl, but Emmalyn had just taken off all by herself! Once the words were out of her mouth, she took the time to look at her surroundings. Oh. OH. OHHHH. Those were some slightly creepy goblin eyes. "Hello there," she said, remembering to be polite. "I'm Maddie Kemp."

She strolled up and collected a little drawstring back. "Thank you so much," she said. Oh, umm...could they understand any of that? Umm... "I ok Maddie Kemp." She looked toward the little drawstring bag. "Tromd aeui!" She couldn't hold a full conversation in Gobbledegook, but she at least knew how to give them her name and say 'thank you'.

OOC: I am Maddie Kemp. Thank you!

Now, she didn't take Gobbledegook. Robyn found that raspy language just about as useful as Arithmancy (no offense to her mother) ... which really wasn't that useful. However, the wannabe reporter was intrigued by the goblins of Gringotts. There were so many secrets they were hiding, she was certain, behind those dark eyes of theres. Maybe she would get a juicy story to write about for The Quill by the end of this trip. Or maybe should could even submit something to the Daily Prophet!

After wiping off the soot from her clothes, the seventh year Slytherin stepped out of the fireplace. That was when she was approached and handed over a drawstring bag. She didn't say anything though as she took it and opened it. Needless to say, she was a bit disappointed that all there was within was a bunch of paper and a button.

She was also a little disappointed that she had been so stuck on not learning the goblin language. Robyn heard some of her peers mutter a bunch of mumbo jumbo. Knowing bits and pieces probably would've come in handy right now. Maybe someone would be willing to translate for her?

Soon enough the headmistress came out of the fire and stepped into the lobby. So far everything was in order, things were going smoothly. As far as she could tell, no one had gotten sick, which was rather fortunate. She could only imagine how outraged the goblins would have been.

Speaking of goblins, Regina's eyes quickly scanned the area for one in particular. Tearlung, as they had planned, would be the one to point them in the right direction and get them all started on their tour, which she herself was excited for. She hadn't seen the Goblin Mint before, and she was certain no one else present for the field trip had either.

"Goow argebmoom, Tearlung," she said to the goblin, which she had narrowed down pretty easily based on his stature and wavering eyes alone. She then continued, letting him know that everyone was there and they were ready to begin, "We abe aff sebe amw axxoumgew rob. We abe beawy go yetim dsemezeb you abe."

Zaglig wasn't terribly fond of temporarily being away from her counter. But here she was, handing out bags. "You're welcome," the goblin said to the first of the children (Emmalyn) she approached.

Next she walked up to another girl (Maddie). Her response to the bag caused to goblin to crack a small smile. So they were teaching the young up in that school their tongue now? Interesting. "You'be defxone, figgfe tibf." Nevermind the fact that the humans there were all taller than her.

OOC: You'be defxone, figgfe tibf. = You're welcome, little girl.

Snednek couldn't decide whether or not he was happy about handing out the drawstring bags to the kids. It was a nice break from counting and staking coins as his desk ... but interacting with kids was not his forte. And it showed plain as day with the first human he interacted with (Skylar).

"That's nice," he said, handing over the bag. "Keep hoping."

He quickly moved on to another girl (Stasya). He was a bit surprised when she thanked him in his tongue. He blinked at her, suppressed a comment about her pronunciation, gave her a slight nod of acknowledgment, and moved on.

Gurblar's face remained expressionless as the humans started coming out of the fireplace. Internally, however, he wasn't thrilled by their appearance. If it were up to him, he'd be down in the depths of the bank with the fire-breathing beast they kept down there.

And, of course, the first of the humans he unfortunately had to interact with was one that was too happy to be there (Ethan). Rather than respond to the boy, Gurblar shot a glance over to Wurmud and uttered, "Tsimp gsey'w mogixe ir de reew gsih ome go gse wbatom? Sse sahm'g yeem rew yeg."

OOC: Tsimp gsey'w mogixe ir de reew gsih ome go gse wbatom? = Think they'd notice if we feed this one to the dragon? She hasn't been fed yet.

Wurmud was used to interacting with all kinds of people. He really had no choice in that since he manned the carts. Normally he didn't have to say anything to them though. He was, actually, rather grateful that the girl he had just handed out a bag to didn't say anything (Robyn). A quiet exchange was perfect. The goblin wasn't up to holding conversation with the bratty kids anyway.

But he did let out a chuckle when he heard what Gurblar said. "Veby genkgimt, ny rbiemw. Sse'w kboyayfy emqoy ome or gse yitteb omeh nobe gsouts."

OOC: Veby genkgimt, ny rbiemw. Sse'w kboyayfy emqoy ome or gse yitteb omeh nobe gsouts. = Very tempting, my friend. She'd probably enjoy one of the bigger ones more though.

Georg wasn't at all happy when his aunt made him take Gobbledygook this term! Languages were always a struggle for him - he'd had a hard enough time learning English! Aunt Kati insisted it would be useful, but of course she'd think that after working with goblins for so long back in Denmark. Why couldn't she understand that he just wasn't like her? Well, maybe learning Gobbledygook wasn't all bad. This field trip sounded pretty fun, and if nothing else, it got him out of Hogwarts for a while!

The blond Danish boy stepped out of the fireplace only moments before Headmistress Hawthorne arrived, brushing the dust off his clothes. He looked around the lobby, spotting some of his housemates in the group. At least he wasn't the only Slytherin here! He greeted the goblins with a friendly smile; h supposed he should at least try to talk to them in their language, even if he was probably going to be terrible at it. Now how did he introduce himself in Gobbledygook again? Oh, yeah. "He! I'k Georg Brodersen-Westergaard," he said. The goblin who handed him a bag received a big smile and a , "Tromd aeui!" in reply.

Georg was looking at the contents of his bag when he overheard two of the goblins talking. Uhh... what were they saying? He could only make out a few words, but he was almost positive one of them meant "dragon". Did that mean they were going to get to see the dragon today? Because that would be exciting!

OOC translation: Hi! I'm Georg Brodersen-Westergaard. Thank you!

Snednek made his way over to the human boy and shoved a bag in his hands (Georg). The smile that he was given registered in his mind, but, of course, the goblin didn't give one back. His mouth didn't even twitch when the boy tried speaking to him in his native tongue.

These kids are trying too hard, he thought as he went on his way to the next human. Were they gone yet? When would be be able to return to his desk?

Maddie felt somewhat better when the headmistress stepped into the lobby. Actually, she felt a lot better. She'd really on been into Gringott's with her parents, and even then, she hadn't had this much interaction with the goblins. She kind of got the impression some of them were less than enthused to have the company.

She looked at Hawthorne with wide eyes when the woman released a string of Gobbledegook. Whoa. She was really good at it! She honestly had no idea what had been said. Just then, one of the goblins said something directly to Maddie. She made out the first part of it, which was 'You're welcome', but she had no idea what those last two words were. Nevertheless, she smiled in response.

Mmkay...so, what now?

The moment the headmistress stepped out of the fireplace, Tearlung's eyes watched her every move. He didn't step forward to greet her. He simply waited for the adult wand-bearer to approach him. This was, after all, his kind's bank.

His mouth opened for a moment as if he were going to respond to the word's that the woman had said, maybe offer a greeting in return. However, all the goblin did was point a finger at a door and started walking toward it. He expected her and the others to follow if they wanted to go on their tour. But, just in case the humans were too stupid to understand the gesture, he said, "Foffod ne."

After placing his hand on the door, it swing open. He stepped through the threshold and kept walking at a steady pace. Through a maze of corridors he led the humans and not a single word was said by the goblin as they walked past door after door. Minutes passed, and not once did he check to make sure that they all were together. Suddenly he stopped.

"Toway you diff ye goubimt gse yamp'h Goyfim Mimg. Uhe youb yboxsubeh ah a tuiwe. Tsih ih a hefr-few goub, yug gsebe diff ye kfemgy or toyfimh aboumw peekimt am eye om you. Do mog gouxs amygsimt you'be mog hukkohew go amw wom'g damweb orr," he said gruffly in Gobbledegook. Then, for the imbeciles who couldn't understand, he repeated himself, this time in English. "Today you will be touring the bank's Goblin Mint. Use your brochures as a guide. This is a self-led tour, but there will be plenty of goblins around keeping an eye on you. Do not touch anything you're not supposed to and don't wander off."

Having nothing more to say, Tearlung placed his hand on the door and allowed the wand-bearers to go through.

OOC: Foffod ne. = Follow me.

Your characters will be touring the Goblin Mint of the bank and can move from room to room at their own pace. It is recommended that you leave the current room location in the subject line of your post for your character(s) so we can all easily keep track of where everyone is. Please use the text cut below as a reference.

Furthermore, there will be plenty of goblins about in each location, so feel free to interact with them in addition to each other.

There was already a lot going on that she could not understand. She was quickly second guessing her decision to attend the field trip, but there was no going back. One of the Goblins, who appeared to be in charge of the trip, had pointed towards then walked through a door. She silently followed the group as they walked through and on with the tour.

Brochure. Check. She pulled hers out of her pocket and studied where she wanted to start. It felt a bit strange to be able to roam at will, making sure to not touch anything of course. Her first stop was going to be the Mezzanine.

As she entered the Mezzanine, she first noticed all of the mosaics. They were very interesting and quite beautiful. The one with the dragon was particularly fascinating. "The original dragon. Wow." She whispered as she continued to gaze around the maze of portraits and information. She had always been pulled towards the hows and whys of places, so all the history was right up her alley.

Honestly, Ronan had always been glad that most of the Carter money was in a muggle bank and the way the goblins were acting was a perfect example of why. As if any wizard wou- actually, that would be a rather perfect thing for an evil wizard to do, come to think of it. Blow up the wizarding bank and watch the ones dumb enough to keep all their money in one place (or even in the wizarding world) lose their collective minds. It was a good thing he wasn't evil.

This particular thought may have made a small smirk appear on his face, which was quickly replaced with a more serious look as he took one of the bags that were being handed out and followed the lead goblin. It was also probably a very good thing that he didn't understand Gobbledegook as some of the goblins talked about feeding a tiny Slytherin to the dragon.

Stepping into the mezzanine, the first thing he noticed was the pictures of Gringott the goblin himself. It made sense that the founder would name the bank after himself. Making his way through the room, Ronan stopped at each of the paintings depicting the history of the bank. "Pretty boilerplate stuff," he mumbled to himself.

Sagni didn't like this. It was as bad as summertime, with the human young around and underfoot. She was suspicious of their motives, wanting to learn her language. Learn it? Butcher it more likely! She could already hear some chicken scratch efforts. They were trying to steal more goblin secrets that's what it was. That was why this learning and this field trip were happening. Maybe next time they could take them all on a tour of the vaults.

A tour of the vaults where they could meet Bunny.

Sagni smiled pleasantly and watched the children explore from her chosen post in one corner.

After feeling like she had fully explored the Mezzanine, Emmalyn proceeded down the stairs and into the Gallery. The area was set up in a much different style than the Mezzanine was, and she liked the layout much better. It felt easier to find specific items of interest and she didn't feel like she was getting lost or going in circles.

As she roamed around, the Die Making area was of most interest to her. All the little die was exactly alike and would have taken much care to make. She had never thought about how exact coin making had to be and was quite impressed with the quality of work the Goblins did.

Fascinated, she continued her tour of the Gallery, taking a pause at each and every area to appreciate the work that had been done. She wished she would have been able to bring her camera to take pictures. Making a scrapbook of the field trip would have been a nice project.

Once satisfied she had seen as much as possible, she approached the heavy door at the end of the Gallery. "Excuse me, um, Goblin, may I continue on the tour?" She felt a bit rude asking in such a manor, without knowing the Goblin's name or being able t speak Gobbledegook, but it was better than simply pushing her way through.

Default Robyn: Mezzanine to Gallery | Regina: Mezzanine
Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch

Slipping the drawstring bag over her back, since nothing very interesting was in it, there really wasn't anything Robyn could do besides look around the lobby that she had been in many times before and stare at (i.e. judge) the little goblins that were roaming around. The goblin that had given her the bag found something Ethan's goblin said funny. It didn't sound funny or even pretty to her, though she could blame that on their not-pretty language.

She looked around, hoping one of the Gobbledegook kids overheard and could translate for her. She had a gut feeling that the conversation that was had right in front of them wasn't pleasant. But they were whisked away before she could ask anyone. How convenient for those two goblins.

Right. A tour of the Goblin Mint. That didn't particularly grasp her attention. It didn't sound very entertaining to be honest, but she would give the place a try. Upon entering the Mezzanine, her assumptions proved to be true. This part of the tour was set up like a History of Magic lesson, which she certainly did not sign up for. She, of course, did give the stuff a quick look over, but she was already moving on to the Gallery within a few minutes, not far behind that Hufflepuff girl.

Was she surprised by Tearlung's response? Not in the slightest. Having spend several years working as a Curse-Breaker, even if it was years ago, Regina still hadn't forgotten about their mannerisms. So she simply stepped aside and let the goblin lead the way. They were, after all, on their territory now. Since that was the case, she was there to make sure everyone behaved. She didn't want to be dealing with any goblin confrontations today.

Through the halls they went, which were not familiar to her at all since she had been based in Egypt and America when she was employed with the bank. The tour itself was not something she had seen either, so this was just as much of a new experience as it was for everyone else that was trailing after Tearlung.

Her interest was piqued when they walked into the Mezzanine. Immediately the glass mosaics caught her eye. So this was the goblin responsible for the bank and, in a sense, for providing her with her first post-university job? After taking a good look at them, she moved on to the other artefacts in the room.

Sturnik waited until the students had begun their tour to make his rounds. His dark eyes studying each face and size of their bags as he passed. He was always on the look out for something suspicious.

Especially when anyone was in the MINT -- the bagging area, in particular. That much loose money with this many people to watch caused for a certain level of hyper attention.

Umm...what?

Maddie looked at the goblin that had released a string of Gobbledegook from its mouth. Had anybody understand all of that? Anybody besides the Headmistress, who likely understood it all? Maddie knew a bit of Gobbledegook, but giving her name and showing thanks was about where her skills came to a halt.

She had enough common sense, though, to know he was asking them to follow him around. As she did so, she looked in awe at her surroundings. How was a place led by such angry creatures so beautiful? Oh. Right. It held everyone's money. She blinked and looked toward him when he spoke English. Huh. Okay. Self-led tour. That was kind of scary.

When everyone spread like wildfire, Maddie trailed along behind the headmistress. If they were going to get lost, she wanted to at least get lost with Hawthorne. She wandered over by a collection of coins, eyeing all the different kinds.

Headmistress? You still around?

Septimus hadn’t been taking Gobbledegook, but hey, why wouldn’t he pass up a chance a fieldtrip to Gringotts? His father worked with the bank as a cursebreaker so it might be interesting to see what knew things he might learn and see there. Stepping from the floo to be both free from the green flames and not blocking the next traveler, he shook his head to gather himself. Woah…he still hadn’t gotten used to it all that well, even if it was one of the main ways they travelled to his Italian relatives’ homes.

Once settled, he took in the semi-familiar surroundings and the goblins standing there to greet them. Some seemingly more approachable while others, like Tearlung and Sturnik were certainly the watchful in control goblins. Addison Nairne had made his son aware of being cordial yet careful around the creatures and he would gladly follow that bit of parental advice. “Thanks,” he said as he was handed a bag of assorted items for their tour.

He studied the map until the one spoke in both Gobbledegook and English about starting the tour. Oh goody. And no touching or wandering...got it. Surely any trouble would be bad and then would get back to his father making things worse. Starting in the Mezzanine which was where they were now once they stepped pass the door, his eyes were drawn to the mosaics. Very pretty…and historical as he took in the pictured scenes.

Blink, blink. Georg's smile faded at the goblin's greeting - or more accurately, the lack of one. Well, that was... not very friendly. He wondered how Aunt Kati, the biggest stickler for manners on the planet, managed to work with goblins for as long as she did. Hmm, maybe Danish goblins were nicer than English ones? Never mind...

Now they were finally moving, good! The blond Slytherin followed the group through the corridors, nearly crashing into the person in front of him as he came to a sudden stop. Huh? He listened closely to the goblin speaking, but he was only able to understand a few words. Thank goodness the instructions were repeated in English! Okay, so self-guided tour, don't touch anything, don't wander off... sounded simple enough.

Georg stepped through the door into the mezzanine, glancing at the mosaics. They were nice to look at but not much else; he hoped there would be something more exciting happening in the other rooms! He stared at the mosaic with the dragon a bit longer than the others. Was this what those goblins were talking about earlier when he overheard them say something about a dragon? Shame, he wanted to see a real dragon, not a mosaic of one! He moved through the room, pausing briefly to check out the coins at the collectors counter. Whoa! The older coins looked weird compared to their modern counterparts!

Oh, well... not much else to see here. Maybe the next room would have something interesting.

Default Mezzanine: Nadlok, Kruggus | Gallery: Gruzug

Nadlok, once the humans entered the Mezzanine, became more alert, her eyes registering each and every one of their faces as she walked around the area. She was indifferent to them being there, exploring their mint. She didn't exactly trust them, but she was glad that they were immersing themselves and learning about her world.

"Emqoyimt gse goub?" she asked the humans nearby, her voice sounding surprisingly pleasant. This one did speak her language, right?

OOC: Emqoyimt gse goub? = Enjoing the tour?

Kruggus was also in the Mezzanine; however, he remained stationed next to the glass mosaics. His beady eyes narrowed slightly once the children started looking at them. And then he overheard one of them (Ronan) mumble something under his breath.

"Wsag dah gsag you haiw, yoy?" his old, harsh voice sounded.

OOC: Wsag dah gsag you haiw, yoy? = What was that you said, boy?

Gruzug was gaurding the door that would lead everyone directly down to the mint. Before the humans had arrived, he actually had been napping. However, the sound of footsteps awoke him from his very short slumber. When the girl (Emmalyn) asked if she could continue, he stood there quite still, staring up at her with dark beady eyes.

Did the goblin want to open the door for her and the others? No. Did he have to? Yes. After not doing anything for a a few moments, he pressed his hand on the door, pushed it open with a grunt, and stepped aside. Are you happy now, human?

She stood a moment, wondering if she was supposed to provide some sort of password. The goblin was just staring at her, not opening the door, so she pulled out her paperwork and scanned for some sort of instructions. Just as she was about to turn around and go back, the goblin pushed the door open to let her pass. "Thank you, sir."

Happy to be moving along, she started down the stairs. She went down, and down, and down, and down... It was getting hotter and her legs were starting to burn with each step. She wondered why there wasn't some sort of elevator or other transportation method besides the stairs. She also wondered why she was sweating when it should have been getting colder as she descended.

She finally reached the bottom and the door to the Mint. "Proceed with Caution? Not a problem" she entered the room, extra careful to not touch anything or get too near one of the goblins at work. She had never been around so many goblins or so many coins. It was strange to think of the little round coins being anything but how they looked in her pocket. The blanking press was closest to her, then the next steps followed, ending with big bags of coins.

After pausing at each station, she worked her way to the end of the room to find yet another door. She looked to the nearest goblin, wondering if they needed to inspect her pockets before she left. No, she didn't take anything, but she also didn't wish to go against any rules. "May I go through the door now?"

Bel was all about field trips. It was always nice to get a change of scenery, even if a bank wouldn't exactly be her first choice normally. She'd signed up because she'd never really thought about what might be there to see aside from, y'know, her own money. Plus it was being led by the headmistress, and Bel thought that for sure that meant it'd be interesting and she'd learn a lot from it. Did she know any Gobblede...Gobbly... Goblin language? Nope! But she was gonna try if she could! For now though, she was in the Gallery, looking over the brochure in her hands.

"Die making." She said out loud. Those probably were even more valuable than the coins weren't they?

(The Mezzanine)

Valko was fluent in Gobbledegook, of course. Just one of the many languages the tall seventh year could speak. In fact he was fluent in several different Gobbledegook dialects, including the one most often employed here at Gringotts.

He turned slightly to his fellow Ravenclaw and spoke quietly.

"I wonder if there'll be a chance to slip away. Perhaps if we're fast through the touring..." Probably the younger kids would linger, wouldn't they?
