Evanna Lynch featured in new 'Disco Pigs' London production promos, plus review
Evanna Lynch is currently starring in the 20th anniversary revival of the play Disco Pigs this summer at Trafalgar Studios 2, London, and SnitchSeeker got the chance to see and review the play. For a preview of the production, feel free to read SnitchSeeker correspondent Milo's review below.
SnitchSeeker review by Milo Hewitt
In the intimate setting of Studio 2 at Trafalgar Studios, takes place the 20th Anniversary production of Disco Pigs, by Enda Walsh. Starring Colin Campbell as ‘Pig’ and Evanna Lynch as ‘Runt’, two extremely close friends who share a relationship that goes far beyond the norm.
A stranger to the original play and film, I have to admit that I knew nothing about what would ensue for the next 75 minutes, but I found myself quite pleasantly surprised. In broad Irish accents and a child-like secret language, the characters Pig and Runt take us on a physical and emotional journey, showing us how they were birthed into the world in quite graphic detail and then giving us a glimpse at their desires and antics on different nights out, all of which culminates when they stumble across their most coveted place of dance and drink, the Palace Disco.
Both Colin Campbell and Evanna Lynch take to their roles as Pig and Runt, wonderfully, giving us an energetic and charged performance that manages to grab your attention and pull you in both comically and dramatically. Studio 2 at Trafalgar is quite a small space, but the direction of John Haidar and the work of the rest of the production team manage to make this play go beyond the confines of the room and it really immerses you into this unorthodox world. One minute you feel like you are in the living room experiencing a normal night in with Pig and Runt, and then you can be suddenly transported into a loud and boisterous disco packed full of revellers and the ensuing mayhem that the characters bring about.
This is a departure from Evanna Lynch’s previous work, (Harry Potter's Luna Lovegood swearing, oh my!) but this is a path I very much hope she continues down, she’s certainly got the acting chops to take on more serious and dramatic acting roles as she has proved playing Runt, and she has the energy to sustain physical action whilst keeping you fully engaged in the character.
Disco Pigs continues its run at Trafalgar Studios in London until 18th August.
Several stage photos from Disco Pigs were released, taken by Alex Brenner, were sent over by the production team, featuring the Harry Potter actress and costar Colin Campbell. Those can be found here. For those in the London area from now until August 18, get tickets to Disco Pigs now.
