Default Divination Lesson 1 - Fingerlingsssssssss

On this particular Friday afternoon just after lunch, around 1.00 pm are you going out into the bright October sun for a Divination lesson in the Courtyard. All though the temperatures are a bit on the chilly side, Professor Vance thinks the students will endure if they've just dressed sensibly.

As you step into the Courtyard that is basking in the warm October afternoon sunlight you'll see that Professor Vance has set up a little outdoor classroom with the usual round class tables and chairs with extra warm cushions in a half circle facing towards the blackboard in close proximity to the Courtyard fountain. On each round table a large collection of hand mirrors, scented oil bottles and a large cauldron full of water can be found.

Professor Vance can be seen leaning casually against the side of the blackboard with a steaming floral tea cup of strawberry tea in her hands waiting for her students to arrive.

Come in, find a seat and make yourselves comfortable and we'll begin shortly!

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

By this, her fifth year taking Divination, Jessa no longer felt as self conscious as she used to when she would turn in her parchment full of made up readings. What difference did it make, really? Even when she did properly apply herself, she couldn't see where the predictions were coming true.

Maybe...maybe she needed to open her mind more....or maybe the predictions were more like riddles; not to be interpreted literally. Whatever the case, Jessa was clearly doing Divination wrong and hadn't the slightest idea how to fix it.

The Ravenclaw politely declined a turn with the mood nail polish, thinking it more a hassle than a help at this point. She'd have to worry about removing it after and the ends didn't justify the means. It wasn't likely to tell her anything she didn't already know.

"I don't think I'll use it, Professor, the nails. It's just.........it doesn't seem the most credible means of figuring out my future--current health, sure...but I wouldn't try to get anything beyond that." Of all the branches of Divination she'd learned, this one seemed the silliest and she still needed someone to explain to her the entire concept of time, bending it, predicting it, changing it and all that.

And now the lesson was over.

The Prefect wasn't necessarily relieved--afterall, it wasn't like she hated the class--but she did think she'd had enough of this nail business for one day. It was the most consideration she'd given to her nails in ages and once she left here, she was sure she wouldn't be paying much attention to them again.

Quote:
What? What was Night sitting there and saying out loud about the noble art that Laurel put so much trust and faith in? She was a SEER and good one and the girl had the audacity to be rude. Eyes quickly flashing over and boring into to the badger girl she said sternly "5 points from Hufflepuff house for your rudeness Ms Dixon! I will not hear that nonsense in my class! Nail readings matter as does all other true predictions of the future. The predictions give us a foresight of the future, a warning of what will/might come. Many people whose futures I have read have thanked me after. Don't let your confusion for the divine art cloud your Inner Eye Ms Dixon." Still fuming Laurel didn't hear the girl's last words and turned to allow the next student to speak.
So, not only had Night offended the professor, she had lost points for her house as well. Next time, maybe she'd have to think before she spoke. "Sorry, professor," she muttered.

Quote:
"Not really," she didn't wish to share it, but 'cause she knew Professor Vance was gonna make her.... She sorta had to, didn't she? "Nail divination is cool, I guess... But I dunno, if I know what my future is supposed to be like then there's NO fun! I wanna make my own future without rules 'n stuff."
Now Zoryn, that girl had the right idea. How could divination be credible if you were supposed to write your own story. And she hadn't lost any points. Hey, Night needed to get braver sometime, so..."I agree with Zoryn," she said, flashing the older girl a smile. "That's why I said what I said. What's to say there was anything causing any of this? Diane didn't do anything to get arrested. I didn't do anything to get kicked out of Chicago. How could anyone have predicted any of that? Or anything to come?"

Oh. OH! Did she really just say that out loud? Where EVERYONE could hear? Wasn't that the secret she had vowed to keep? Were all her classmates looking at her now? Would everyone judge her?

THIS. This was why she shouldn't have taken divination.
