Enchanted Face Painting and Balloon Animals

Off to the side of the Big Tent, lies a huddle of smaller pop up tents complete with some tables and chairs. Not only is this a convenient spot to rest your feet, but there lies something of interest in the shade of these tents. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice signs propped against the poles of this mini tent complex. Step on up for enchanted face painting and balloon animals!

In one area waits a small army of artists, paints ready, eager to decorate your (and/or your child's) face with their favorite magical creature. Need some help picking? On the tables is a small booklet of examples of animals these artists can recreate for you. The most popular is a unicorn that is enchanted to trot across one's cheek.

If face paints aren't your thing, be sure to check out our special balloon animal artists. There is a line, but it is definitely worth the wait to get your hands on a balloon bowtruckle clinging to a balloon branch or a balloon crown that models the three heads of a runespoor. Step on up and request one of these two specialties or request a replica of your favorite magical creature.

OOC: The enchanted face painting and balloon stations are not staffed. Feel free to have your character make and receive their animal face-paint and/or balloon requests.

"Can you just imagine that crawling all over our faces?" She couldn't help but giggle at the prospect.

If she was at all honest Liliane knew that she was probably too old for face paint. She was nearly 17. That meant that she was nearly an adult, and an adult was far too old for face paint. But that didn't mean that her mind had been changed. She wasn't 17 yet, and so that totally meant she could get some faint paint too. She would probably go for some pretty glittery flowers, or something like that. She would look pretty, and cool, and that was something that she was totally into. The blonde looked around, trying to find someone to talk to, so she didn't look like she was on her own.

Oooh. There was someone. "HI!" The blonde murmured with a smile. Maybe that was a little loud? Oh well. She was excited. Are you gonna get some face paint done? It looks super cool!"

Drew had considered paying a visit to the other booths and attractions at the carnival. He'd been to the food stands earlier, and he was feeling like a bit of a penny-pincher when he saw the prices. A galleon for food that were basically being sold in other stores in the Alley as well. It was funny how such events worked, but he figured it was still worth a visit. It did seem like fun.

And he was taking Dia with him too, because his unbiological sister was finally of Hogwarts age. The carnival had such perfect timing, Drew believed. His first thought after reading about it from the Daily Prophet was that Dia would have fun here too. "D-do you want to have your face painted?" he asked. He personally wasn't against to getting his face painted as well. Not like this carnival happened every summer, after all.

The balloon animals were kind of nice too. At least they were a thousand times more safe than their live counterparts.

Tightly squeezing Drew’s hand so she wouldn’t get lost, Cordelia followed him through the crowd. Getting to spend time with Drew was always great, and today was extra special because they were going to the carnival. Cordelia grinned and giggled as she looked around at all the wonders the carnival had to offer. This was her first time at a carnival like this, so everything was exciting and new. Everything was also expensive though, and Cordelia couldn’t afford too many things here because she needed to save her spending money for all the necessary school supplies. This year she was finally going to get to go to school with Drew, and nobody could stop her from going this time! The last 3 times she had tried to convince Mrs. Stemp to let her go to Hogwarts with the older kids, Cordelia had been unsuccessful because she was still too young. Now she was old enough and could go to Hogwarts for real!

As much as Drewett disliked crowds to some extent, he really didn't have the heart to deny Dia some adventure even just for one day. Perhaps it was his need to please everyone that made him do this, or if it was because of the mere fact that it was Dia. Had it been another kid from the Stemp House, he would have turned him or her down.

Drew was her brother, and all the other kids at Stemp House were her friends, or in some cases just people she happened to live with. She knew he wasn’t biologically her brother, but he was family all the same. Drew was more of a family to her than anybody biologically related to her ever had been. Cordelia couldn’t even remember her biological mother, really. Just a few fuzzy memories from when she was three. Stemp House had been her home for over four years now, and the Stemps and Drew were her family now. Every now and then Cordelia needed to be reminded that Stemp House wasn’t going to kick her out and that she would be able to stay there for a long time.

Cordelia grinned when Drew asked what he should get. ”I think you should get a dragon!” Only if that was one that he liked too, of course. She wasn’t going to make him get a design if he didn’t like it. ”Which one is your favourite animal?” Because if his favourite animal was something different he should get that. Drew might even have more than one favourite animal, and then she would have to help him pick. Cordelia had a few favourite animals including unicorns, dogs, and horses, but unicorns were the clear winner here. A unicorn probably wasn’t what Drew wanted though. Her book about unicorns said that unicorns liked girls better. Dragons were always a solid choice for other cool magical creatures.

"I-I can live with that," the fourteen-year-old replied with a nod before looking back up to the person-in-charge. "D-dragon for me... unicorn for her, p-please...." Dragons sounded really manly, but the Ravenclaw will take it over facing real dragons.

What a pal, Gunnar McCarthy. In fact, the Ravenclaw believed he was getting better at it, at not panicking when he had to face certain creatures. But let's face it, he wasn't even taking Care of Magical Creatures as an elective. He didn't encounter them all the time.

"Th-there are lots of them at the Hogwarts b-barns," he shared, thinking it was appropriate for their conversation and it surely wouldn't disappoint Dia's enthusiasm to join him and the older Stemp House kids in the upcoming term. "We can visit them soon... along with th-the winged ones." The Abraxans, Aethonans, and Granians were such majestic creatures for the fourteen year old, as long as they don't start kicking things. There were probably Thestrals too, but the Ravenclaw couldn't see them so he didn't see a point of trying to interact with them... if he had the courage.

Having something solid, like a paintbrush, very near Drewett's eye made him a little uneasy, but he had no choice but to place his trust on the artist that his eye would remain untouched and that the animated dragon design would look stunning across his cheek. It kind of tickled, and he felt his facial muscles twitch a little. "Ssssorry...." he mumbled, apologizing to the face paint artist. He wasn't used to such situations.

Ah, a wand. Of course, no doubt. It was essentially the most important school requirement of all. Drewett remember the last time he visited Ollivander's, just the summer before last term. He had broken his wand during the Inferi infiltration, no idea how. His current wand was his second wand, and hopefully the last he'll ever need to purchase in his lifetime. Wands were quite expensive. "I-I don't really need a lot more, just... well, p-parchments and more quills and ink...." Maybe uniforms, too, since he had grown a few inches since last term as well.

The man at Ollivanders said these wands are hard to steal and that it will be good for flying, apparition, and defense against dark magic.”. She couldn’t wait to see how it worked with real spells. Of course the mention of horses, mundane or winged ones, caught Dia's attention and enthusiasms. Drewett let out a chuckle just by watching her reaction to his piece of information. "Th-that will certainly happen," he replied. Dia didn't have to mention it. It was already on his mental list of things to do and accomplish the moment he would foot into that school on September. "Only with p-permission... there's a process." That would entirely depend on whoever the Care of Magical Creatures professor will be in the upcoming term. The Ravenclaw sure hoped it was still going to be Professor Wayland. He seemed like a nice man, even when they didn't interact so often.

Just like any good big brother, he listened to everything Dia had to say about her new wand. Drewett was mostly amused by how she described her wand, all that enthusiasm in a tiny body. "Sounds like a p-powerful wand..." The boy smiled. He didn't expect less from Dia. He knew she had it in her—the will to learn and the tenacity. "Mine is th-thirteen and two-thirds inch... Ebony with unicorn hair." He never forgot a detail about his wand. It could be useful one day. "I-it's best for Charms... T-Transfiguration... and defensive spells." From what he could remember, at least, but his wand proved to work well for those aspects too.

"If that's what you want," he said with a small smile. There were also other booths in the carnival too, and that magical creatures show. Imagine how much more money he had to shell out to pay for those attractions, though. Cue the horror.

He, thankfully, had a bit of a chuckle at how quickly Eloise dismissed the idea "It is," he said with a small shrug. Dates could be defined as a social appointment which this very well was. He had, after all, asked and suggested to Eloise that they go to the carnival together. Technically it counted. "And since you are now included on it you can help Eloise. She is struggling to come up with a concept for me."

Only it seemed today he was destined to be forced into the square hole that was a date, as his dormmate so nonchalantly suggested that they make this a double date which completely redefined the parameters of this excursion...and he wasn't sure he was here for it. "No," he said firmly, not wanting these other romantic expectations hanging over him. "You can join us, but no double date." He just wanted to enjoy time with, dare he say it, friends.

As for Ethan's question, he assumed the fact that they were in the queue for face painting would solve that riddle for him eventually.

So Eiji mentioned earlier that a suggestion from her was welcome? Well, here's a concept. "Maybe you," she pointed a finger at Eiji, "can be a frog prince while Ethan here," Yes, you, Ethan. "can be a chimpanzee princess." Sounds about good?

And sure he tolerated his dormmates and was friendly with the girls in his year, but if he had the choice, he probably wouldn't have come to this carnival at all. He quirked an eyebrow back at Manon though.

"I'm no princess. And definitely no chimpanzee." Ugh, that did not fit him at all he was not spending his coins to get THAT on his face. "I'd rather get a dementor or something." He rolled his eyes. Honestly.

They were here. They'd made it through the summer crowd, through the circus crowd to.... a tent... for.... face painting. Why were they doing this again? His eyes drifted to Rhea, watching her and only her as he had been lately, something he was still struggling to understand. She was why. Wasn't she? Or had this been an agreement? A bet? He couldn't remember. Something about her made him forget small details lately, but only the unimportant ones.

Neo moved closer to her, the scent of sticky children and paints filling his nose quickly, overshadowing the smell of fried food temporarily. His left hand went for the small of her back as he leaned in close.

Rhea didn't know what had compelled her to suggest checking out the Worple and Warmsley Carnival to Neo but here they were. And they were surrounded by kids. Literally. They were everywhere. If it wasn't for the fact Neo was by her side, she would have been in an unbelievably foul mood.

After wandering through the various attractions, she was beginning to doubt whether it'd even been worth coming. Most of the attractions weren't really her thing. The bouncy castle, whatever it is? Better and more fun results could be achieved on a broom. Food? She could get that anywhere. The petting zoo? Animals were better than people, no doubt, but still.....no. Surprisingly, it was the face painting station that caught her eye. Something about it intrigued her. It was like the magical tattoos that she'd heard about but....less permanent. So she'd suggested it to Neo with a smirk on her face and he'd said yes. Definitely against his better judgement.

"Hmm." It was a tricky decision. "Something that flies. A raven, maybe?" But that seemed pretty boring. She wanted him to get something amusing but not completely dumb. "A dragon?" She suggested, raising an eyebrow in question. Rhea was all ears if he had any suggestions.

"What about for me?"

Neo's eyes lazily drifted over the station, a rainbow effect of colors littering his view, messy drippings and splotches lining the work station. The current customers pure and nearly even faces were now lined in moving color.

What should she get?

He watched the artist finish up before his focus turned to her, eyes wandering over her face, studying it for a long moment. Thoughts of kissing swam through his mind, temporarily distracting him; such was the norm.

"Your cat," he said simply, "or see if they'll do a steaming cup of hot chocolate on your cheek." His eyes drifted back to the artist as he considered his own options. "The raven idea isn't bad. But maybe they'll do a snitch? It's not an animal per say but... it can't be that difficult, can it?"

Carnivals didn't come around very often - so naturally, Javier had taken his young daughter Camila to the festivities. As a single parent it was important to him to make sure he gave her as many fun, unique experiences as a child that he could.

The first place Cami zoomed off to the second they entered the carnival was the face painting booth. He smiled and followed his crazy little six year old to the booth, where she promptly requested to be made in to a cat (she was OBSESSED with them lately, begging her father to get more than the one he had already reluctantly adopted).

The man asked if HE wanted HIS face painted - it took all his energy to stop himself from asking the man if he was mental. Did he LOOK like the type of dad who wanted his face painted too? Um. No. No thank you.

Rhea knew exactly what Neo was thinking about when he looked at her. She had the same thoughts. And although she might consider it the time....well, it definitely wasn't the place, so she pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the face painting.

"I like the way you think," she said, inspired by the thought of rising steam. "Music notes maybe?" But there was only so much music notes could do. She really liked the idea of a steaming cup of hot chocolate on her cheek. But that could just be because she wanted a cup of hot chocolate right now. "What about Asher chasing music notes? Do you reckon they could do that?" She wasn't sure how complex the magic required to make that happen would be but she could definitely picture her cat pouncing on a bunch of musical notes.

"A snitch would be perfect for you." She casually traced a pattern on his cheek where she imagined the snitch would flutter.

"Oh, those balloons are pretty cool, Morgan," he mentioned as he noticed the balloon person creating some sort of balloon hat with a three-headed runespoor. Not that he was sure he'd wear one, but they were cool.

"Gonna get your face painted, Chlo?" It seemed a given that Morgan was going to... maybe all three of them should while they were here. "I might get something small. Maybe on my arm... maybe to look like a tattoo." Now that would be cool.

Morgan skidded to a stop in front of both tents, well more like in the middle, first looking at the balloons and then at the face paint. "Yes!! I want both!" he informed his sister, unable to decide just which to do first. Could they make him a balloon while he was getting his face painted?

He was probably a little too close to the girl whose turn it currently was, as he watched her get her face painted. And she was barely out of the seat when she was done before he was climbing up into it himself. It was his turn! "I want a dragon! One that breathes fire." Now that would be super cool.

Seeing that all the little kids were running around, the stilt walker made sure to be extra careful not to fall. What a disaster that would be and he didn't really want to try to gt back up while a crowd was watching. He had done this for years, but right now it seemed that the crowd would test his experience.

"Who would like a lollipop"

Pulling big colorful lollipops out of his hidden pocket he grinned at everyone before going to pass them out.

"I was going to get this unicorn here, but I don't have enough. " she said frowning.


She knew she spent too much on food and stuff, so it was no one's fault but her own. Maybe she could go ask her dad for alittle bit more so she could get the unicorn, she was sure he wouldn't object to it. After all she was a daddy's girl and the only girl in the family. "What are you going to get?" she asked the older girl. "Oh so rude of me, I'm Stella." she said with a small smile.

As Morgan got in the chair to get his face painted, Gunnar wandered over to the example book and lazily flipped through it. Most of it was a little too flashy and over the top for anything he wanted, but there was sure to be something in there for him. Maybe in the back. Maybe all the flashy stuff was in the front.

"A cat would be really cute on you," he said to Chloe, glancing at her as she mentioned it. The unicorn seemed a little more childish to him, especially to get a full face of it done, but it was up to her. She could get whatever.

"I think I might get this lizard crawling up my arm." He pointed to that specific design in the book. Seemed cool enough.


Morgan happily sat up in the chair as he had the artist painting his face, but it was so hard to sit still. The lady told him over and over, but there was so much to see! Even from where he was sitting...

"It can breathe fire! Right??" He turned his head yet again, to look at the painter lady so she could tell his sister that of course it could... but the lady made him turn his head back again so she could continue painting. When was she going to be done??
