Default Headmaster's Office

Well, it's an office.

There's a desk, there's bookshelves, the walls are lined with portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses as is the custom. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

On the large, wooden desk sits several pictures of a woman with a bright and enchanting smile. Some pictures had (if you asked the Headmaster) the cutest children ever to be created in the history of man's creation. One picture contains these beautiful people and Trent himself. Not all the pictures are still. The little girl in one picture blows kisses occasionally and the little boy who is clearly the older of the pair occasionally breaks into a grin in his own frame. It was his mother's grin, could you tell? Did you need a closer look? Don't smudge the glass and don't leave fingerprints, that's just inconsiderate. Look with your eyes and not your hands.

This is usually where you'll find the Headmaster, getting through some important paper work or making plans. It's of course, not a guarantee he'll be up here as the man does have a habit of wandering. Sitting still for hours was never his strong suit.

If you wish you speak with him, approach the stone gargoyles and have yourself a nice wait. They're not likely to let you in without the password and only the Headmaster and his staff are privy to that bit of information. Don't break them trying to force your way in anyway. They've been here since long before you were born and won't appreciate that kind of abuse. There's ways of trying to let yourself in that would prove to be less a nuisance--not that you're encouraged to. Whatever you've got to discuss with Headmaster Trent can't be THAT pressing. What's a five minute wait?

Flittering and bearing the wax seal from the Minister's Office, the red envelope swirling and dove through the air until it came to a halt on the headmaster's desk. Plumes of thick black smoke were already pushing out through the folds of the red paper as it rattled in anticipation of opening.

Which better be soon or else all the papers on the desk would catch fire when it exploded.

Malachi blinked at the envelope that appeared before him at his desk. He’d been in the middle of a few documents the board of governors had sent over, distracted enough not to notice its entry. Now, here it was, steaming and unmistakable.

A howler? For him? Did Headmasters even get howlers?

Immediately the man tried to remember anything that may have become an issue warranting parent involvement. Was this a disgruntled mother? Disapproving father? No, really, a HOWLER?

It was such a strange sight for the man that at first it didn’t even occur to him to open it. What honestly in Merlin’s beard could this have been about? Finally he regained enough of his senses and reached forward to open it. As he did, Malachi braced himself for whatever was inside.

It took only mere brushes of the headmaster's fingers to activate the howler. Rapidly spiraling upwards as it manifested its shape, one could all to easily receive a paper cut or two if fingers were too close.

"TRENTULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

The Minister's voice was unmistakable if not a bit foreign in its rage induced tone.

"MY GRANDSON! MY LITTLE BEZOAR TO THE POISONS OF THIS WORLD! MY FIRST GRANDCHILD! NEARLY DIED ON YOUR WATCH! I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION! AND WHAT ABOUT THIS MIST?! I SHOULD HAVE ENVIRONMENTAL POUNDING DOWN THE FRONT GATES RIGHT THIS INSTANT! MY GRANDSON!"

Message delivered, the ribbon which had once tied the Howler neatly up wiggled itself as though blowing a raspberry to the headmaster before the rest of it tore itself to shred and rained red and white confetti down upon the man's desk.

Right.

Disgruntled grandfather. That would have been his next guess. Surely. Surely. Malachi cringed as the voice of the Minister for Magic himself boomed throughout his office. Unexpected as it was, there was no mistaking it and nothing to be done until the explosion of words ended.

The man sighed deeply, supposing he would now have to add this report to the day’s to do list. It had started out at a sizable level when he’d woken up and had steadily been increasing since.

The Headmaster looked out the window again. From here he could see the fog and it was every bit as unsettling as when he was engulfed in it. Perhaps a message over to the DERP department wouldn’t hurt.

Certainly couldn’t make things worse. By now it was quite clear this was not just bad weather but maybe they’d have some fresh insights.
