If you saw the notice for Monday's Ancient Runes lesson, then you knew that getting ready and heading to class earlier than normal was the smart thing to do. Being the middle of February, the temperature outside was not forgiving. Though the sun was occasionally peeking through they grey clouds, the air was bitter cold. Wearing the proper outdoor attire for winter and an insulation charm, however, would take care of that problem. But what in Merlin's beard was the headmistress thinking for holding the class all the way down at the Entrance Gate?!
Even though the path from the castle all the way down to the gates had been mostly cleared, the occasional snow drift and ice patch prove to be a bit of an obstacle, testing your attentiveness and balance. If you so happen to slip and fall, perhaps this will make you appreciate those thestral-drawn carriages that take you from the castle to the train station or Hogsmeade more. Best get back up on your own two feet continue the long trek on the path between the trees. There isn't much time for any dillying or dallying.
Soon enough the wrought iron gates, coated in ice, comes into view. The familiar winged boars await atop the two columns in their full glory, granted it is their backside that is facing you. Leaning against one of the columns is where you can find Headmistress Hawthorne, clothed in a rather fluffy ensemble. In spite of the cold air, there was something about her stature that is giving off the vibe that she is pleased to be outside of the castle for a change.
Hearing the snow crunching beneath your feet, the woman's head turns and greets you with a smile. "Good morning," she says, making a motion for you to come closer toward her and the gate. "We will be starting in a few minutes. Notebooks and writing utensils will be needed." After that nothing more was said, still leaving you wondering why the Entrance Gate had to be the location for this Ancient Runes lesson.
OOC: Take note that this is NOT the first Ancient Runes lesson your character has had with the headmistress this term. Also, please familiarize yourself with the classroom rules before posting. The lesson will continue in roughly 24-36 hours. The lesson is in session. Feel free to jump in!

"I don't know about that, I guess I've just gotten lucky." She didn't know one rune from the other if she didn't have her book. Eyes moving to the symbols again she nodded as he talked, "That probably would be the case. If you are going somewhere you'd want protection and safe travels." Kind of interesting she guessed but in 2095 how many people were really in danger with traveling?
She skimmed the book trying to find the last one, but she was struggling. Why was this one so weird? The last one looked like a sideways hourglass, what type of things would that be? Time? Time could go with travel, right? She flipped through the book a little more before finding what she thought was right. "I think it's Dagaz, which would mean the process of the concept being realized." She stared at her book and then at the suitcase,
that was a weird one.
"Think it's the realization of destination or the concept of time maybe?"
Max simply smiled and shrugged when she denied her rune ability and instead claimed it was all just luck. He had a feeling Zita was WAY smarter than she sometimes let on but he decided not to push it further, for now.
"I think the time thing works," he decided with a nod after listening to her explanation of the last rune. He moved closer so that he could share her book and see the page she was looking at. He skimmed the text and then pointed at one particular paragraph with his gloved finger. "See here, it says Dagaz references the day and night cycle."
He tilted his head, thinking for a moment. "So maybe it's on the suitcase to ensure safe travels at all time? Like day and night? Twenty four hours?" He ruffled his hair and frowned a little. Honestly, he had no idea if any of this was even right. Or if it was right, how the other runes like Nauthiz were supposed to play a part.
SPOILER!!: notes
Nauthiz - Resistance, restraint, conflict?
Ehwaz - Harmonious teamwork and trust
Raidho - Ride, wagon, journey
Thurisaz - Protection, defensive powers
Dagaz - Process of concept becoming realised. Time, day and night?
Conclusion: Zita and I think the suitcase has the above runic wards placed on it to give the owner safe travels and protection every day and night.

Juniper looked around on the table, trying to decide which item to uncover. There was a amulet, a jewelry box, and a coin purse. Since she had just done the golden locket over at the other table, she decided that she would try out the jewelry box. Moving closer to one of the boxes, she opened her book and notebook before turning back to the jewelry box.
With her wand in hand again, the fourth year tapped the box, "SpeRevelio." Waiting for the runes to be revealed. When they all were revealed, she could already see that like with the locket was some repeats. This one really had a bunch of them, even one Algiz was on there three times.
SPOILER!!: Juni’s notes
Jewelry box
Runes found:
Othala, Laguz, Algiz, Othala, Uruz, Isa, Algiz, Perthro, Algiz, Perthro
Othala For acquiring land or property, to complete a project, to strengthen family ties. Laguz Enhancing psychic abilities, confronting fears, stabilizing mental or emotional disorders, uncovering hidden things. Algiz For protection, assistance, hunting Othala For acquiring land or property, to complete a project, to strengthen family ties. Uruz To strengthen the will, increase energy; for hunting. Isa To stop a process; to represent primal form. Algiz For protection, assistance, hunting Perthro Fertility, easing childbirth, to aid in divination and magic, enhancing psychic abilities. Algiz For protection, assistance, hunting Perthro Fertility, easing childbirth, to aid in divination and magic, enhancing psychic abilities.
I believe that the wards were placed on the jewelry box to lock up and protect maybe some type of family heirloom or something import their family possibly. There's a lot of added protection on the jewelry box.
She started writing in her notes. About halfway through the notes she was really starting to regret choosing the jewelry box. There was a lot of Runes in this ward, way more than on the locket. Once she was done with her notes, she added what her inference was. It wasn't as indepth as the first one, but by the time she had got to and finished sorting out the runes her brain had started turning to mush. She really like Ancient Runes but man did it make her head hurt.

Oh! Oh oh oh oh oh!!! There be RUNES Cap'n....
Ace peered closer at the runes now shown to be more defined and actually staying that way. He scribbled the runes quickly on his notes in case it fades as quickly as it came. Then he worked on analyzing just what had appeared
Pertho= uncertainties/ restrictions/ mysteries in life and freewill; memory and problem solving; evolutionary change
Algiz = protection / shield / defense/ guardian
Sowilo = success / goals achieved/ honor; power made available for positive changes in life ; shedding clarity/ light during the dark times
Fehu = sign of hope and success / abundance / financial strength / possessions/ luck ; the power to obtain and retain wealth ; new beginnings
Hagalaz= tests/ trials/ controlled crisis, leading to completion, inner harmony ; time and situations becomes constricting; destructive forces / wrath of nature
Thurizas = rune of protection and can tell us of a possible change that would have otherwise come without warning; reactive / directed force of destruction and defense; catharsis, purging, cleansing fire, a tendency toward change
Inference: The runic ward protecting this amulet has protection runes via Algiz and Thurizas, and also would impart difficulty or nervousness to whoever might want to take it via Pertho and Hagalaz. I'm not quite sure what Sowilo and Fehu does as a runic ward, as they seem to invoke properties of success, something the wearer of the amulet would surely welcome as benefits for themselves, but I'm not sure how those are supposed to serve as a deterrent for the amulet. Perhaps they mean guaranteed success in the tasks done by Algiz, Thurizas, Pertho and Hagalaz?
Ace set his quill down and looked over the rest of the items on the tables. He could go for something simpler, but his blue-green peepers keeps going back to that money pouch next to the amulet. Well, why resist it eh? Who knows maybe he can learn something from this when trying to secure his own wallet.
He took the money pouch in his hand and cast SpeRevelio as his wand made contact with the item. It started to glow brightly and the runes made themselves apparent... and hobbling hinkypunks its a complicated thing! Oh boy here we go....
Fehu= sign of hope and success / abundance / financial strength / possessions/ luck ; the power to obtain and retain wealth ; new beginnings
Isa = rune reinforces runes around it; blocks to thought or activity ; standstill; a time to turn inward and wait for what is to come, or to seek clarity
Thurizas= rune of protection and can tell us of a possible change that would have otherwise come without warning; reactive / directed force of destruction and defense; catharsis, purging, cleansing fire, a tendency toward change
Wunjo= rune of fellowship, harmony, prosperity, common goals; joy, comfort, pleasure, glory; good news ; the balance between all things even when in a chaotic world
Laguz = the power of water/ going with the flow; life energy and organic growth; imagination and psychic matters, dreams, fantasies, mysteries, the unknown
Uruz = physical strength and speed, untamed potential; power that we can neither own nor control; a time of great energy and health; personal success is near; sudden or unexpected changes (usually for the better)
Othala = wealth that cannot be sold like family, friendships or culture and heritage; what is truly important to one; aid in spiritual and physical journeys.; source of safety, increase and abundance; represents an enclosure and maintains the existing state of things as they presently are
Inference: The main runic ward that offers protection for the money pouch is Thurizas and Isa, as the latter helps protect by reinforcing Thurizas and other runes surrounding it, as well as giving off the influence of blocking activities that may come upon the money pouch (like being stolen). Other runes also help reinforce this complex layer of protection: Laguz regulates the flow of runic energy, Wunjo balances the runic influence, Uruz turns unexpected changes into positive outcomes (like the aforementioned stealing of the pouch and the thief failing spectacularly), and Othala maintaining the integrity of the money pouch as a container that belongs to the owner.
It is interesting to note that several runes on this also has a positive influence for the functionality of the money pouch itself. Fehu, Wunjo, Uruz and Othala influences the positive increase of wealth contained in the money pouch.

With her analysis complete as best as she thought for the locked jewelry box, Skylar added a small number two and quilled in 'money pouches' next to that on her parchment. Time to figure out another complex ward, because the instructions were to choose two. And since she'd already been at the complex ward table, stepping back to one of the easier tables wasn't really an option.
"SpeRevelio," she said, casting on the money pouch and waited. By Merlin, there were a lot of runes revealing themselves here too.
Time to start scribbling down what she saw. The top one confused her for the briefest of moments, before it clicked. Fehu.
Fehu
Isa
Thurisaz
Wunjo
Thurisaz
Isa
Fehu
Laguz
Laguz
Uruz
Othala
How curious because even though there were A LOT of runes that appeared, only seven different ones that just repeated more than once. Except Wunjo, Uruz, and Othala were only once. Fehu though made a lot of sense, as the sixth year consulted her textbook once more. Prosperity, money, wealth.... really, could you get much more meaning from a rune protecting a money pouch than one that literally meant prosperity and wealth?? Uruz would be used for strengthening the other runes, similar to with the jewelry box. Then there was Othala, present as this was property, it was materialistic in representing money. Isa present twice, representing strength, blockage, preventing thieves from accessing the pouch. Wunjo signified success and recognition, which truthfully, some considered money to be joyful, bliss, happiness, to be content with what was within. Not protective rune, but just signifying what was within. It was strange seeing Laguz present again, twice, given its negative meaning... but present with wunjo, it actually made sense. It was one that represented emotions and fears, two things that went hand in hand with money. And finally, Thurisaz, which represented the very essence of discipline, the monetary hardships. The pain endured for the reward inside the pouch.
It was interesting to note how the seven runes seemed to strengthen each other, providing protection for the money pouch in ways that individually might have been successful, but together, a likely force in preventing intruders from accessing its contents.
