High Street

[Zoe]

High Street is the main street of Hogsmeade, from which you can access all its most famous shops. This particular street connects to several narrow streets and alleyways due to how the shops are laid out. Some of these passages will take you to other shops and even the residential area of the village. Stay on this path until the very end, past Dervish and Banges, and you will find yourself coming to a stop at a stile that faces the mountain beyond.

It is not common for those who are people-watching in the benches next to the street lamps to see large numbers of students and adults ambling up and down the pavement and peering into shop windows. After all, this is the most popular place you can meet up with your friends before heading over to the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer, entering Zonko's with a mischievous grin, or entering Honeydukes with your mouth already watering.

Hogsmeade was always an exciting time of year for any Hogwarts Student. But it was ESPECIALLY exciting this weekend because it was Halloween, which meant, Skylar could don her pretty Halloween-themed dress and tights.

Although there was one thing that she was slightly skeptical about, when she'd seen the notice, which was the free candy thing. Nothing had happened in recent terms, but she did recall stories from her parents involving an incident that occurred somewhere around their fourth or fifth year. Well, it mainly involved Hazen Krum's parents, which were practically her own too. Something about chocolate frogs being consumed from Honeyduke's and Alexis changing into an animal. The details were foggy and it was a long time ago, but regardless, it still made the sixth year skeptical about free candy in hogsmeade.

Where to first? And just avoid the chocolate frogs if any shopkeepers are giving those out, but any other candy was okay? Maybe she could cast a spell on it to check for its safety before consuming?

Apollo was grateful for a distraction, and Halloween in Hogsmeade was perfect, he could get out of the castle, dress up a bit and even get some candy, and hopefully see if someone was around. He stuck his hands in his pockets of his leather jacket and adjusted his eye patch a bit. He had opted to go as a pirate this year and was actually wearing eyeliner as well. Sy had done it, apparently she had done Charles’s eyes the year before when he had been a pirate so she begged him to let her and bring the good twin he was. He had let her..

His grey eyes looked around to see if he could see anyone he knew, while trick or treating was fun, he wanted to go with someone.. Being alone.. he wasn’t feeling it lately. His mind raced too much when he was alone..

He shook his head and pulled himself out of those thoughts, he was feeling extra melancholy lately due to his recent birthday, his mother had always gone all out, and he was of age this year too..

He had seen his dad but still..

He sighed softly as he spotted a familiar figure and his sadness lifted and a smile moved over his face.

“Skylar!” He called out as he ran up to her, his heavy boots stomping as he did so.

Gaston normally didn't like loud, over-the-top costumes, but today he'd make an exception. After all, it was for the students! He supposed as far as costumes went, this one wasn't too terrible. In fact, if it weren't for the angry-looking scar across half his face and the glowing red object in his hand, this costume looked like something he might normally wear.

He wandered down the street carrying his helmet -which was stuffed full of various kinds of chocolate for the students - under his arm. As he looked around, he spotted Skylar and Apollo. Dressing up sounded much fun, but since Diandra didn't really have a preference who she wanted to dressed up as so she just put the minnie mouse ear headband.

Since she couldn't find anyone to go with, the badger just decided to go by herself. Okay, now where should she go first? Getting a drink would be nice but it's just weird if she go to the tea shop or the pub alone. Hmmm... Okay, let's just wander around first. Diandra spotted the Slytherin captain and a guy that probably was her boyfriend, since she didn't really know them both so she just smiled at them. There was an adult dressing up as a Star Wars character... Oh, that wasn't just an adult but her Charms professor. "Nice costume, Professor." What was the character's name again? Her father was a huge Star Wars fan and pretty sure she had seen this one in one of her father's action figure collection.

As Skylar was considering where to head to first, she heard the sound of boots coming up from behind her and spun around to see the familiar figure of her housemate. And boy-something or other.

Apparently with the mask covering her eyes, she was still recognizable. Of course, he'd seen her from the back and it wasn't as if her back was really disguised much. "Apollo. Hey," she grinned at him, taking in his costume. "Nice eyeliner." Yes, she might have been mocking him JUST A LITTLE, but that's what she did best. "Did you apply it all by yourself?" Because she might have been casually impressed if he had, considering how it didn't look uneven or anything.

It was then that she heard the familiar voice of one of her favorite professors, because duh, charms. She'd recognize his tone anywhere; which reminded her, she should probably be nice and ask how his wife was doing. Was she pregnant? Is that why she didn't return to teaching?!? Also, how had this thought JUST occurred to her? While she was thinking about that, a girl she recalled meeting in Diagon Alley had showed up, whom she recognized as the one who had just transferred from another country. From her brief conversation though, she was a tad surprised to find she'd been sorted into Hufflepuff, but that was just her.

"Professor Marchand. Happy Halloween. Nice costume." Even if she didn't really get the whole Star Wars thing. "And you too, Diandra. Love the headband!"

Apollo was about to respond to Skylar when he heard a voice call out and the Slytherin boy nodded and smiled a bit as their Charms Professor, “Hello Professor Marchand, Happy Halloween to you as well, I like your costume.” He said with a smile, Star Wars was always cool in his book. He had almost worn one this year, but had decided to go for a Pirate instead.. He nodded to the other girl who was there, he didn’t fully recognize her. But she got a wave and a smile.

Tenacius made his way towards High Street, his own Gryffindorian Galactic Princess in hand, and he spotted his Head of House with the candy caddy. Oi what the real Kylo Ren would have to say about that lolz "Eyyyy look honey its our boy Ben." he joked he waved hello to the man, who today, he can joke Who's yer Daddy? without getting into trouble. Much.

He spotted other students already there, to which he also said hello and gave an approving thumbs up for their costumes-- Skylar and a guy (Apollo) he wasnt quite familiar with (but hey he' a pirate too so that scores highly in his book) and Diandra-- who is Minnie Mouse. Given what the Gryffindor Leadership's Halloween theme is this year, one can only hope a Wizard working undercover for the Disney company should be making their way around these parts now...

Was that a little firstie skipping and bouncing down along High Street? Why, yes. Yes, it was. Rylee couldn't contain her excitement about the holiday and being able to go to Hogsmeade. She was very much zipping down the streets very much like a bumblebee would do, which was no surprise today seeing as that was her costume or well anyday really.

Taking quick notice of one of her professors and a few older students in which she had to back-track her steps... in the form of hopping backwards, she raised her hands in a double wave of greeting. "Hi, everyone! Happy Halloween! I really like your costumes!" All of them. Mhmm. Everyone looked AWESOME!

Don't mind her as she made cute little buzzing noises and wiggled slightly in sheer joy.

Oh look, there was Tenacius and Vi, looking quite adorable with their couply themed costume. She grinned at the two of them, just as a first year (Rylee) skipped and bounced along the street. "You look pretty adorable yourself. Wait, you're Rian's sister, right?" Maybe?? She was pretty sure Rian had mentioned her sister coming to Hogwarts in September and could kinda see the resemblance.

Wow! High Street was certainly bustling with costumed students and adults. Halloween was here and it was exciting to see everyone's dedication. A few weekends ago, Vi and Ace had spent hours coming up with costume idea. After they had settled on characters, Vi proceeded to make her own costume . Learning stitching charms last term had helped her greatly in making the costume without a sewing machine. Her hair had proven to be the most difficult part. In order to do that, she had to use a colour changing charm for newly blonde hair to turn it brown again.

With her hand resting in her roguish space boyfriend's own hand, she listened as Tenacius pointed out Professor Marchand dressed up as their canon son Ben Solo. "Go easy on him, Han," she said with an American accent. If she was dressing up as Leia Organa, she was going to go all out. American accent and all.

"Happy Halloween!" she greeted their fellow costumed Hogwartians (Marchand, Skylar, Diandra, Apollo, and now young Rylee). "You all look great!" she said with a grin. Gaston was Kylo Ren and hopefully not causing too much trouble for the galaxy today. Skylar was dressed very much as Halloween itself in a sweet dress. Apollo was a pirate! Diandra was minnie mouse! And Rylee was adorably dressed as bumblebee or bumblebee fairy? Cute.

"Keeping out of too much trouble, Ben?" she said, addressing their HoH as their son. Ah Halloween. A true reversal of roles.....

Ahh it was the Head Boy and the Gryffindor prefect whom he really didn’t know too well, but of course has seen them around. They got waves and smiles. “I like your costumes guys. ” He said with a grin, Star Wars was classic.. and then he smiled at the little first year (Rylee) she was cute as well!

He had gone all out, recruiting everyone he could to help make Chloe's vision come to life. It had been well worth the time spent on it, even if it was only to be worn for one night, just to have Chloe happy for a couple hours. It was nice to see her so exhilarated and worry-free, wasn't it?

He laughed. "I'm right behind you, Chlo. I won't let you get too far ahead." He was moving along at a steady pace, not rushing along like Chloe was, but he was hamming it up: he gently lifted his wings uuup and back down smoothly as they went, fully in character, and taking care to not accidentally smack any other trick-or-treaters in the face. I have SELF ESTEEM to grow, Callie!" She grinned at him to let him know her self esteem was just fine and that him being pretty was super just fine. "Do too." He laughed, flapping his wings hiiiigh above Chloe's head, then just as she rounded his front, he engulfed her in a big, phoenixy hug. There was no heat emitting from the costume, so she was good, unless he spontaneously burst into flames to be reborn.

"True," he hummed, agreeing with the benefits of candy (even though he was giving it all to her) and hanging out with her for the evening, but he snorted at her outburst in disbelief. "Chlo, I promise you, no amount of flashy attire on this bod can outshine you. You're radiant. I need this costume to glow, but you glow all on your own, every day. Not just tonight." He smiled, genuine in his words, and very gently straightened her glittery horn for her after he had messed it up during their hug.

His girlfriend? "She's good," he grinned puppy-like, the way he always did when Jae was mentioned, or when he saw her, or when he even thought about her. Giddy as could be. "Told her you probably wouldn't mind if she joined us tonight, but she wanted this to be our thing." He thought that was wonderful of her, and for the very first time in his life, the thought of Jae would make a really great mum crossed his mind. Yikes.

He didn't want to dwell on that topic long - Chloe didn't need to hear about that - and turned the conversation back on to her. "What about you and your boys?" Or girls? He typically didn't ask about these things and let Chloe come to him, but since she had wanted HIM to share, he was going to make her share, too.

Gaston smiled as Skylar and Apollo returned his greeting and complimented his costume."Thank you," he replied with a smile. "I like yours too! I almost dressed as a pirate too, but I decided to do something a little different." Personally, he thought Apollo made a better pirate than he did anyway. He held out his mask-turned-candy dish. "Would you like some chocolate? There's several kinds in there... Pick what you want."

Then someone else (Diandra) appeared. Gaston smiled. "Hello, Diandra - or, should I say Minnie Mouse? Happy Halloween!" he greeted her. And another compliment on the costume. Did it really look that good? He wasn't sure it was worth all this fuss... "Thank you. Yours is very nice as well. I love the ears!"

More people were arriving now! Gaston chuckled a little to himself as he saw Rylee hopping backwards toward him. He returned her wave by swishing his lightsaber around. "Thank you, Rylee! Happy Halloween to you too!" he replied. He turned off the lightsaber and tucked it into his belt so he could have a hand free to give out candy; he picked up a couple of chocolate bars and offered them to Rylee and Diandra. "Would you girls like some candy?"

Oh, look who's here! It's Han Solo and Princess Leia! It was taking everything he had not to burst out laughing when the two Gryffindor leaders addressed him as their son. After disguising a brief attack of the giggles with a cough, he brandished his lightsaber and turned to the pair with his best sulk. "But Mooooooom! Daaaaaaad! I don't want to keep out of trouble; I want to rule the galaxy!" he complained, playing along with the joke. He wasn't even bothering to try an American accent, though... he tried that in his first term and failed miserably! "Don't call me that! It's Kylo Ren now!" With a look of great concentration, he wandlessly levitated his mask/candy dish over to them. He was pretending to throw a tantrum but in reality, was offering them candy.

As he looked around, he spotted Callum and Chloe and waved his lightsaber at them. "Happy Halloween!" he said. "Nice costumes, you two!"

It hadn't actually occurred to Bel to dress up. Halloween just wasn't a big thing at home, and people didn't just dress up just because. If they were going to it was for a party or something and not just because. So it was sort of surreal that her very first Hogsmeade weekend included people all around dressed in all sorts of different outfits. Instead she was wrapped up warmly, though on second thoughts she was thinking that maybe she should have worn a hat and gloves too. She had her hands buried in the pockets of her hoodie, and the hood pulled up as she walked with Cameron into the village.

"I don't even know where to start!" It WAS her first time, so Cam was the expert here, and she still thought it was really nice of him to agree to show her around.

Rylee turned her bright blue eyes upwards onto Skylar and she smiled widely at being told she looked adorable. "Thank you!" Someone knew she was Rian's little sister! "Uh-huh!" she exclaimed nodding her head fast. "Are you one of her friends?" If she knew her enough to know they were sisters than she must've been her friend, right? It made sense to her.

Everyone was getting a bright smile from her. Smiles and waves. Happiness radiated off of her as she bounced on the spot. Candy! Professor Marchand was giving out candy! Rylee nodded. "Yes, please!" She happily accepted one of the offered candy bars and placed it into her little halloween basket.

Hearing Professor Marchand address her house leaders as mom and dad had her in a fit of giggles. Way to play along for the spirit of the holiday, professor! Not only was this the best holiday... or one of the best she was most certain that she had the best house mates and leaders ever!

So she was going to get a tour wasn't that great? And so nice of Cam to actually show her and pick where to go together and not just pick where he wanted to go with her stuck tagging along without any say. Options made her more inclined to go with the flow though, strangely, but Bel did intend to buy Cam something while they were here. Even a drink or something. Just to show her appreciation and because Bel wasn't one not to value one on one time with any of her friends.

And she had to admit that even if she wasn't in a costume herself, seeing people all laired up around her was at least interesting, if a bit surreal.

Evie Reynolds LOVED Halloween and was so glad that everyone else seemed to love Halloween around here as well! She was dressed as a gymnast today, but was wearing warm up gear over her leotard because it was cold out, and she wasn't stupid. She wasn't going to risk getting sick just to have her costume be accurate! And besides, it WAS because gymnasts DID wear warm up suits.

She hadn't been in Hogsmeade more than FIVE seconds before Marchard was there (she TOTALLY understood why her older sister said he was the DREAMEST professor because he DEFINITELY was) and he was handing out CANDY! "OOOOOH! Hi Professor! This is AWESOME!!" the little Gryffindor first year squealed as she got in line to receive some candy. At this rate she wouldn't even have to go to Honeydukes! She looked back at her head of house and wrinkled her eyebrows as she took in his costume. She had NO clue what he was supposed to be, but she saw the red sword soooo..."Um, are you...Gothic Godric Gryffindor?" she asked. That was the best guess she could come up.

"Rylee!! Hi!" she squeaked, running up to her fellow housemate, who looked SUPER ADORABLE dressed up as a bumblebee. She giggled at her costume. "I love your outfit! VERY festive," she told her with a nod. She turned to the rest of the group that had gathered. "You guys all look SO COOOOOL!" she exclaimed.

Hogwarts and Halloween were officially a match made in heaven. This was the BESTTTTTTTT!

Skylar shook her head, amused. "What's wrong with attention?" Clearly he wasn't extroverted like she was, but maybe that was why they complimented each other well enough? Pressing her lips together thoughtfully, she eyed those around, in particular her eyes fell upon the small Reynolds girl, whom she knew to be Scarlett's sister and then there was Chloe and of course, Rylee. "Well, I'd put it on for you, but not here." Cause her method of putting it on, well, she DID have some dignity in terms of PDA in front of the younger students. Her Charms professor she wasn't even as particularly concerned about because it was outside the castle and she was TOTALLY his ace student so he wouldn't care as long as she continued to keep her efforts high in class. At least that's what she told herself.

Hah. She knew it. "Well, she did a good job." Girls were ace with makeup like that though.

Eyes back on the Professor a moment, she grinned at the chocolate. See, Professor Marchand was TOTALLY trustworthy and honestly, Skylar would probably trust him with her life. "Sure. Thanks Professor," she said, grabbing two chocolate bars at random, handing one over to Apollo.

With that, her blue-gray eyes fell back down to the bumblebee that was Rylee. "Oh, well, acquaintances, I guess. I mean we weren't super close, but we talked and ran on occasion. And she had mentioned you coming to Hogwarts this year and you kinda look a little like her." Sky nodded in explanation. "I'm Skylar, by the way."

Callum anticipated her action and did keep her upright, chuckling all the while. "Under the condition that you let me look through the chocolate frog cards you get." Fair?

She was rambling now, and since they were in public, Callum resisted the urge to wrap her head in his arms and hush her up. Chloe knew she was being ridiculous, didn't she? "Every single thing you just said is one hundred percent false. You're the prettiest person on this whole street." And there were a LOT of people around here trick-or-treating, and that also made her prettier than him. So ha. "I wouldn't lie to you." That was the truest truth to ever be true.

Boring? He laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear fondly. "Yes, I promise I won't become boring or obsessed with boys," he teased. But as she grew more serious, he nodded. Callum understood how his little sister felt firsthand. "I wasn't interested in those things either, not until I was maybe another year or two older than you. Rumor had it, I was one of the last to have a "first kiss."" He rolled his eyes and shook his head as he said it. "That stuff? It's stupid, it's just not important. Growing up and all that - it's not a race," he shrugged, "and you should never feel like you have to compromise who you are and what you want to do for anyone else, or to "keep up" with anyone else or "impress" anyone else." He tilted her chin gently upward with an index finger, wanting her to really look at him. "You're my baby sister, but you're not a baby."

It was then that his Head of House acknowledged them, and Callum hesitated. He was wearing... Star Wars, right? He knew the series, not incredibly well, but he had learned about both Star Wars and Star Trek when Airey Flamsteed was his Head of House. Was it just a Gryffindor Head of House thing? Was it in their contract to be exceedingly nerdy? "Hi professor. You too. Live long-- May the force be with you." As he started to say live long and prosper, he could hear Airey saying it in his head, and quickly corrected himself. He was a little proud to have retained a few things after all these years.
