Default Seating Area for the Office of Professor Alice O'Hara

Straight, wooden chairs are located outside Professor O'Hara's office so that anyone who wants to visit him can sit while they wait. They are not the soft, comfortable chairs that were here when Charles was professor. These chairs will make you feel very uncomfortable unless you are sitting straight. A straight back is important and Alice's chairs will help you with that!

A stack of wizarding magazines and very old newspapers preserved with magic are kept on a coffee table by the door. Around half of the magazines deal with history and politics, while the other half are fitness and health magazines.

A few taps on the door will suffice.

One look at the chairs was all the reason he needed to remain standing as he approached the seating area. It was just as well, Malachi had no reason to get comfortable. This wasn’t exactly a social call.

The Headmaster moved over to the door then gave a few firm knocks. Not an excessive amount but just enough to alert the History of Magic Professor to his presence. The thought had crossed his mind to send a patronus and have her come to his office but he was already out of his own office for other reasons and this just seemed the easiest route.

Of course, if she wasn’t in then he’d have to go ahead and send that message anyway. But if it could be avoided then it would be.

Hearing the sound of knocking, Alice rose from her chair and silently made her way to the door. She peered through the tiny glass she'd installed on the door.

Malachi.

The door gave a small click as it opened. Alice looked up at the headmaster, hands crossed behind her - a rather somber expression on her face. "Headmaster. Won't you please come in?"

She thought she knew what this was about. Hence the sombernes. "May I offer you a healthy refreshment? Tea, fruit?"

”No, thank you.” The man returned at her offer. He still had tea back in his own office and those pastries his wife had gotten to him just after the Hogsmeade weekend. Once he was able to, he would head back to his office and at least try to enjoy them but for now, there were several things around the castle that needed addressing.

The History of Magic Professor was merely one stop on his list.

“I was wondering if we could have a bit of a talk, provided you’re not too busy in the moment. If so, a time that works mutually can be arranged.” While he wouldn’t say he wasn’t fussed, he wasn’t quite so terribly eager to get to this to the point that if she had truly pressing matters he couldn’t wait.

Malachi moved over to one of the empty chairs, gesturing for her to take hers back at her desk.

Of course, he hadn’t missed the somber expression but he wouldn’t go making assumptions about the origin either.

Offering tea and fruit was just pleasantries. It would have been rude not to offer. Malachi's polite refusal didn't come as a surprise.

Pleasantries aside, now they could get on to business. Her expression still somber, the professor uncrossed her hands from behind her back, and went to her seat, just as she'd been commanded. Her chair was slightly raised - ensuring that she would seem taller than whoever was visiting.

The book she had been reading (a King Arthur legend) lay next to the pear bowl on her desk.

"How are you, sir? It's been awhile since you visited me in my office. How can I impress you?" Saying impress instead of help.

The somberness was still there...it would remain until she heard what he had to say. Then it could vanish completely - or crank up a few degrees. Depending on hwhether she was right in assuming this was about the incident that had been on her mind ever since it happened.
