Winter was still upon them, even in February. At least it wasn't as cold as it had been. It was back to being around the 40's at least. Tristan made sure to have the heating charms around the area outside of the barns where he held his lessons. It was quite chilly, but the heating charms would keep them all nice and warm.

As usual there were hay bales set up in a semi-circle, waiting for his students to arrive. They were set up next to a very large empty field just to the right of the barns. Professor Wayland had gone above and beyond for his hay bale throne today. The seat was normal sized, but the back was shaped like a Phoenix in flight, and colored to look like one too. He thought his students needed a little fun after all of the craziness going on with the mutant running around eating things....

So there he sat in his Phoenix hay bale throne, sipping his Chai and waiting patiently for his students to arrive.

Walking towards one of the creature she picked up a brush, "Can I brush you?"

"Good." Tristan said to the young Ravenclaw. He stood and walked with Hanna, at her pace, so that she would know he was there to help her.

When Chloe asked if Hanna wanted to work with her he gave her a large smile and a thumbs up for being so kind as to ask her to work together since she was scared. It was great to see that his students wanted to help each other. "Chloe, maybe you and Hanna can work together for the next part of the activity?" He hoped so, because he really needed to be present for everyone for the big activity.

He turned back to Hanna, "Why don't you take both and hold them up to the creature and see which one it goes for?" He said with a wink handing the meat and hay over to her. "I'm going to move everyone else on, you take as much time as you need, okay?" He said to her quietly. He didn't move away though in case she got too scared.

SPOILER!!: Chloe

"Alright everyone! It's time to move on to our next activity." Tristan said with a small grin. This part was going to be a little tricky because he was sure a couple of the students weren't going to be too excited about this, but he did this all the time for these creatures...and he would emphasize that fact.

"Now as stated before, Leucrotta have very unique teeth. They are actually large pieces of very rough bone, and they can have a hard time cleaning them on their own. So every two weeks I go find the heard and give their teeth a good cleaning." He paused hoping they would get their next task. "Today is that lucky day!" He said with a grin.

"Please watch as I demonstrate the proper way to brush the Leucrotta's teeth." With a flick of his wand a piece of meat flew into his hands, and he made his way over to the largest creature in the heard. He knew no one would want to mess with this guy, and he couldn't blame them. He was almost seven feet tall with the biggest antlers anyone could ever behold. He was absolutely stunning. "C'mon, Samson." Tristan whispered to the large creature. The creature looked at him warily for a moment before moving towards him and taking the meat, chewing a few times before swallowing. "Good boy." Tristan whispered, giving the creature a good rub down.

With another flick of his wand, a step stool, large tooth brush, small tube brush, natural animal friendly peppermint tooth paste, and a bucket of water flew to his side. The brushes and toothpaste rested on the top step of the step stool and the bucket of water was resting next to it. He grabbed the big brush and toothpaste and put them in his pocket. "First we take the small tube brush and clean between the teeth, kind of like flossing." He said as he picked up the smallest brush. He went to the stop step of the stool. "Open up," he said for everyone to hear. The creature opened it's impossibly large mouth and held it open for the professor. He quickly and carefully ran the brush between each tooth.

Once he was finished he dropped the small brush in the water bucket. "Next you take the large tooth brush and some toothpaste and you just go to town." Tristan quick leaned down to dunk the tooth brush into the water, then began brushing the creatures teeth. He was brushing for a good minute before commenting, "And make sure you really get in there and brush the back of their teeth too." And the next thing you know, Professor Wayland was leaning into the creatures mouth and the only thing you could see of him was from his shoulder blades down.

A minute or two later he emerged, perfectly fine and intact...there might have been a little toothpaste on his face but, eh! "Once you are done brushing, clean off the tooth brush, grab the small brush out of the bucket, and dump the water in their mouths." He did just that, and the creature decided to spit out the water, which when shooting everywhere. Samson was mimicking what sounded like laughter. Oops!

"Oh, sometimes they think it's funny to spit the water everywhere. Sometimes they just swallow it. So...might want to use the Impervious charm. Clearly...I didn't." He was absolutely soaked. "Older students help the younger ones that don't know how to do that spell, please." He said with a nod. "You may do this in pairs! Supplies are on the table by the barn. You may begin." He said with a small smile.

He quickly turned and used a drying spell. Of course Samson would spit on him...he always did! The great creature was still mimicking laughter. "You better watch it Samson." He said pointing a finger at the great creature, which kept laughing.

OOC: OKAY! Sorry for the massive post but it was necessary to explain the process! SO your task is to brush the Leucrottas' teeth! You may do this in pairs or individuals. You may do this in as many posts as you'd like! You have until 11:30 pm EST on March 2nd! Have fun!

Indigo was actually feeling alright with his leucrotta. It had imitated some of his whistling, which was kind of cool, if a bit creepy. The fact that it could mimic kind of reminded him of a parrot, except that was the only similarity this thing shared with a parrot.

He turned to listen, and watch as Professor Wayland explained the teeth brushing procedure. He was not necessarily looking forward to brushing the large and frankly dangerous looking teeth of this creature. But the leucrotta didn't seem vicious, and the one Professor Wayland was demonstrating on wasn't giving him any trouble so Indigo wasn't too concerned. Still, he was thinking that he might prefer working with a partner rather than attempting it on his own. He got Vita's attention. "Want to work together?

Before starting, he also had a question for Professor Wayland. He raised his hand and waited to be noticed. "Do they have names?" If they did, he would prefer to be able to refer to his leucrotta by the proper name. At the very least he was also wondering if the leucrotta he'd been getting to know was male or female, because he did feel a tiny bit bad referring to it as it.

Stella looked at Professor Wayland with wide eye, oh ggodness their mouths were huge! He wanted them to brush their teeths? Ok... no problem, just let her calm her nerves and she'll be ok. Heading towards the table by the barn she grabbed her supplies with shaking hands along with some more meat and hay. Heading back to the Leucrotta she was working on before hand she smiled at it. Feeding some hay and she smiled."Ok...lets those teeth cleaned and pretty!" she said setting her down in front of the Leucrotta.

Ok... which one was she suppose to use first again? Biting her lip she looked at the brushes. "Oh... that's right, the small tube brush." she thought to herself. "Open up!" she said as he looked at her, was he shaking his head at her? "Aw... come on, it's ok I don't going to the dentist either, but your teeth will nice and pretty!" she said petting him. As he opened her mouth she smiled. "That's a good boy." she said taking the small brush going between it's teeth.

Tristan looked over to see that Indigo's hand was in the air. He gave him a nod and listened to his question. He grinned and with a nod, "Most if not all of them do, yes. If you'll notice on their right antler, their names are magically inscribed there. Sometimes it's hard to read, but could you imagine these creatures with collars?" He said with a chuckle. Trust him...it didn't work.

Tristan quickly checked his watch. "You have about twenty minutes everyone!" Hopefully everyone would be able to finish in that amount of time.

OOC: You all are doing great! Just a note, you can make up the name/gender of your Leucrotta. You have about 2 days to finish up!

With meat and hay in hand, Hanna tentatively stepped towards the Leucrotta, heart beat quite noticeable, and held out the food. Seeing Professor Wayland was still there, and Chloe appeared to be having a very safe fun time, Hanna felt she could do it. She was reassured by both of their presence. Just so long as they didn't go too far.

CHOMP!

The piece of meat was gently, she admitted, snatched from her hand and gobbled up by the creature. Although she felt startled by the suddenness of it, she didn't feel overly worried. Sure the creature could easily have eaten her hand, but it hadn't. Hanna offered up the hay which the Leucrotta nibbled on, which also wasn't overly scary.

But holding food out for the Leucrotta was one thing. BRUSHING ITS TEETH was another thing. A look of horror made its way onto Hanna's face as she watched Professor Wayland, the creature whisperer, brush its teeth.

Hanna swallowed hard. Getting that close to the BETWEEN of the teeth on the GINORMOUS creature. She wasn't entirely sure she could do it. Nope. Backing away slowly. And then it opened its mouth. Its black hole of a mouth. That could probably swallow Professor Wayland up whole, and still have room for kiddy dessert. Even brushing way to the back teeth. Would Hanna have to almost shove her entire arm in there!?

Oh, yes. But even more than that.

HIS HEAD WAS IN THE MOUTH!

Even the emerging and safe Professor didn't do much to alleviate her fear. She was not putting her head inside the Leucrotta's mouth. But she could give it another piece of meat.

"Um... I-I don't know about that," she said quietly to Chloe. "B-but I can... help you do it. I can give Sampson some more meat!" That was surely such a huge help, right? No, probably not.

After a good brushing between the teeth, she dropped the small tube brush into the bucket. Placing the Impervious charm on her just in case, she pocketed her wand beford grabbing the large brush out of the bucket. Placing some mint toothpaste on she looked at the Leucrotta. "Ok... Ralph time to get those teeth looking pretty and clean!" she said as he opened his mouth. "That's a good boy!" she said as she went to town like Professor Wayland told them to do.

Humming as she worked she petted him with her other hand in comfort. "Aw.... I know, but it's almost over, hang in there!" she said softly petting it with her other hand before getting back into work. She knew that it probably didn't feel too good, but she had to get his teeth clean. She hated going to the dentist and getting her teeth cleaned as well, so she understood how he felt.

Vivienne grabbed the meat and hay and walked over to the admirable creature. Everyone watched as she tamed the creature successfully. The creature grabbed the meat. Then the hay. Why would the creature eat Hanna's hand? He was too adorable to attack someone. But don't be fooled by cuteness, they always said. Now she was ready to brush its teeth. Relax, Vivienne, relax, she told herself. Why would it swallow Wayland? Who would want that? Not happening today! Really she named the creature... Sampson?!

Tristan watched as the students began the process of brushing the giant creatures teeth. He was so glad to have the help. It took him hours to get the herd finished when he did it alone. He looked over to Hanna and Chloe and, though Hanna still looked a little sacred, she was doing a great job so far.

He looked down to check his watch, "Ten minutes everyone!" Hopefully that would be enough time for the students to finish.

OOC: You all are doing great! You have about 23.5 hours to finish this activity! Good luck!

Stasya was getting the same feeling she’d gotten way back in the forest with the unicorns, and so she came to the conclusion that she and the leucrotta she’d been feeding were becoming friends of a sort. It didn’t bother her one bit that her new friend was significantly larger than her, either. He was like a giant puppy dog, in a weird way. A giant, goofy creature and she felt just as comfortable as she did with all the creatures from the barns. Especially Cygnus and the other winged horses. Except, she giggled as she felt the leucrotta’s muzzle nudging her now-empty hand. “Maybe I can feed you more later,” she began, craning her neck to try and decipher the name inscribed on the right antler. “Rowan.” Hmm, she could understand that.

“Okay, Rowan, time to brush your teeth,” she continued conversationally, collecting the supplies and returning to the side of her leucrotta friend with a friendly smile. She continued to try and be reassuring as Rowan helpfully opened his mouth wide, even as she eyed the cavernous opening. She trusted him not to bite her, but it didn’t make it any less awkward as she picked up the small brush as Professor Wayland had demonstrated to floss between the teeth as delicately as she could. Anything to keep things comfortable for the creature, even as she’d stuck her head further inside to floss between the back teeth. “You’re being a very good boy.”

Now to move onto the actual brushing. Just to cover her bases, she dunked the larger toothbrush in the water once, then added the toothpaste and carefully dipped it in the water again before she climbed back up to brush Rowan’s teeth. Including having to lean far into the mouth to get the back teeth along with the back side of his teeth. Rowan was going to have the cleanest teeth out of all his friends; she was determined on that matter.

Emerging again, she cleaned the brush off one more time before slipping her wand out and casting Impervious on herself. Only then did she lift the bucket up and dump the water inside Rowan’s mouth to rinse it out, and even then, she stepped aside and slightly to the left of his body in case he decided to follow Samson’s lead.

Working together sounded like the perfect way to get through this task, as Vita was still a bit intimidated by the creatures. She'd got on with the one she'd been chatting with well enough, but she felt like it could tell she was wary and that didn't spell lasting friendship as far as she was concerned. Plus there was no way she was sticking her head into that things mouth. Maybe Indigo could do the more extensive part of things?

"Yeah, I'll grab the supplies for us. Maybe you figure out the name." She didn't bother waiting for an answer, she was off getting their things.

When she returned, she set the cleaning supplies down and carefully offered the creature some meat. It seemed like a ridiculous action right before cleaning its teeth, but she got the whole warming it up to you aspect. "There you go.That's good, isn't it?" Looking over her shoulder at Indigo, she offered a small smile. "So far, so good." After petting the creature some, trying to get it used to her being so close, she got out the smaller brush. "I'll do the flossing type of brushing, 'kay?"

"Open up.." The creature's mouth was HUGE and sort of gross, but Bita tried not to look too disgusted as she carefully brushed between the teeth, trying to remove anything that wasn't supposed to be there. She was gentle but meticulous, wanting to do a good job.

"Look okay? Her gaze fell on Indio when she was done.

Tina continued brushing the leucrotta until Professor Wayland moved on. It never did mimic her voice, but it was clearly enjoying the brushing. It nuzzled against the brush, making little contented noises. She stopped brushing to listen to the professor, and the creature tried to lean into the brush. Tina smiled, but her expression changed to shock as she heard what the next task was. They had to brush their teeth?! Had Wayland gone completely insane? Although the felt a bit more comfortable around the leucrottas after the last activity, there was a limit. There was no way in Merlin’s stinky socks that she was leaning into a leucrotta’s giant abyss of a mouth, house points or not! It may be calm now but what was going to happen if it got mad?

She watched the demonstration intently, trying to formulate a strategy. She was going to do as much as she could without leaning into the animal’s mouth and try to do everything one-handed, just in case it got a little… bitey. She wasn’t losing her wand arm today! With a feeling of intense dread, she gathered her materials from the table. She set them on the ground next to the creature and cast a quick “Impervius” on herself. She didn’t feel like getting drenched in leucrotta spit, thank you very much! She arranged her step stool to one side of the animal, holding the small tube brush in her left hand. Before she could get started, someone was asking about the creatures’ names, and the professor said something about names inscribed on the antlers.

Tina stood on tiptoes on the step stool, craning her neck to see the name on the antler. “Nala… is that your name?” The leucrotta blinked as if to say yes. Tina chuckled a little to herself. She supposed that name made sense in a weird way. The leucrotta was part lion,after all! “Okay, Nala, open up,” she said. The creature’s mouth remained shut. Tina sighed. “Please open up.” Still nothing. Now she was really beginning to get frustrated! What if Nala just stood there with her mouth closed until time ran out? Tina took a deep breath. Getting angry wasn’t going to help anybody! “So you don’t want to have your teeth brushed? Can’t say I blame you there…” she said, gently stroking Nala’s beard. “Maybe we can help each other out. If you let me brush your teeth and don’t bite me, I’ll see if Professor Wayland will give you some extra treats later. Sound like a plan?”

“Sound like a plan,” Nala mimicked, and Tina couldn’t help but giggle. It was weird hearing her thick French accent coming from an animal! She would take that as a yes! She waited patiently for Nala to open her mouth, then began the slow meticulous work of cleaning between Nala’s teeth with the tube brush. It was a bit hard trying to do everything one-handed, but it was better than risking an injury to her wand arm! She started on the right side, then the middle, and finally the left, stepping down and moving the step stool every so often. “Good girl, Nala! You’re doing great.”

When she was finished with that, Tina stepped down from the stool and traded the small tube brush for the bigger toothbrush, applying a generous amount of toothpaste. Toothbrush in hand, she climbed back up the step stool to finish the brushing. This time she started on the left side and worked her way back to the right, brushing with gentle, even strokes. The back teeth were a little hard to do. She reached as far back as she could without leaning into Nala’s mouth. She wasn’t sure it was far enough, but it would have to do. “Almost done,” she assured Nala as she reached the final few teeth.

Tina finished brushing the last tooth and stepped down from the stool. She made quick work of cleaning the toothbrush. When she was done, she removed both brushes form the water and picked up the bucket. “Just a quick rinse, and we’re done!” she said to herself as much as Nala. Climbing up onto the step stool one more time, Tina carefully dumped the water into Nala’s mouth. She had already cast Impervius on herself, so she was prepared for any sudden showers, but that never happened. She smiled as Nala swallowed the water. “Good girl, Nala! Thanks for not spitting on me.”

That wasn’t so bad after all, Tina thought as she climbed down from the step stool. She’d survived the task without getting bitten or spit on anyway! That was the best she could’ve expected.

Indigo was glad that he was going to be working with Vita. He would have been able to do it on his own, but everything was better when you were working with a friend. And having a partner made him a little less nervous about the whole thing. He let her gather their supplies while he looked for the name of their Leucrotta. "Looks like her name is Sophie," he told Vita when she returned with their supplies.

Thanks Vita, for leaving the more difficult part to him while she did the part that didn't involve sticking her whole head inside the creature's mouth. But it was okay, he didn't really mind. He would have had to do it anyway if he was working alone. And he would like to believe that him and Sophia had developed a bond. Right?? Maybe.

"Looks good," he said when Vita was finished with her part. And then it was his turn. He put some of the toothpaste on the toothbrush and started brushing Sophie's teeth. He started with the front of the mouth because that was easier, and worked his way backwards. He hesitated before really getting into the mouth, but eventually worked up the nerve. Still, he got that part over with as quickly as possible. And then he was done. Sophie's teeth were clean and minty fresh. To finish, he gave her some water from the bucket to rinse and stepped back in case she decided to spit it out.

Tristan looked around and noticed there were a few students that were either finishing up or finished brushing the Leucrottas' teeth. He quickly checked his watch. Time was up!

"Alright! That's everyone. Great job! Please put the supplies back where you got them from and I'll see in our next lesson." He gave them all a huge smile before walking over to his Phoenix hay throne and taking a seat. Another successful lesson.

OOC: Thank you everyone! I will leave the thread open until tomorrow evening in case anyone wants to catch up really quick or say goodbye to the professor!

THEY WERE GOING TO BRUSH THEIR TEETH!!!

Chloe looked between Professor Wayland and the creature. She was excited to be near them but she was no animal dentist and that thing had big teeth, her little hand could be taken right off with one CHOMP. He knew this right?

Looking again at the creature and to the professor, she shook her head and hurried to get what she needed. "Alright you, please don't hurt my hand while I do this. I know you are gentle so we are going to keep it that way. Chloe is a friend, not food." Setting up the stool she got to the top, but her little less than five-foot frame was still too short so moving back down she did the extension charm and hurried back to the top. "Alright we are going to do this, Open up.. please "

Taking the small brush she started to brush in between its teeth. This was exciting and terrifying, plus gross all at the same time. Chloe worked quickly, but efficiently making sure not to miss any spots. Once she got through all of the teeth she worked her way back down the stool to get the next brush and made her way back up. "I'm getting a workout in doing this." Was it weird she liked talking to him?

Taking a look at the professor she couldn't help but giggle that he was so wet. With the bigger toothbrush, she put the paste on and started to brush all the teeth. "Brusha Brusha Brusha" giggling as she went, hoping he liked her weirdness and wouldn't want to spit water on her when it was time. "You are a good patient today and it seems like you have no cavities. You are taking such good care of yourself." Cooing at him could only help, she hoped.

Going back down the stool once she was done she got the bucket of water and went back up, "Alright we are going to do this nicely, yes? I'll put the water in you just swallow it after you rinse your mouth." She put the water into the open mouth and then took as much cover as she could. The sound of gurgling laughter could be heard and she peaked through her arms, "glad you think this is funny."

Nettie blinked up at Wayland. Um, he wanted them to do WHAT now? He...he knew how tiny she was, right? She was BASICALLY snack sized to these weird things. She knew they were omnivores but...could she really trust ANY creature after everything that had happened this term? With the mutants eating one of their own professors?

She hung back for a second, waiting until the rest of the class got started with their work. Ok, so it seemed the Leucrotta weren't jumping at the opportunity to eat any of her classmates, so she was probably fine.

Hesitantly, she looked back at the Leucrotta she had been petting. "Hey there. What's your name? I'm gonna call you Frank," she informed him, because it was literally the first thing that came to her mind. She liked to name her animals people names. It amused her.

"Ok, open up," she told him, watching in slight horror as Frank opened his mouth as wide as it could go. This was so unsettling! Even if they were cute and nice and not going to eat her any time soon. Taking the small tube brush, she climbed up on the step stool and leaned in to the teeth, brushing between each one with care. This mouth was RIDICULOUS...she could fit TWO of her in here...

Then, she got the toothpaste and the large toothbrush, and started to brush all the teeth vigorously. She moved from the front teeth all the way to the back, leaning as far in as she could to get each one. If you ignored the fact you were in a wild animal's mouth, it wasn't too bad...although man, Frank had BAD BREATH.

She took the bucket of water, cleaning off the toothbrushes before she turned and gave it to Frank. Then, while he was swirling it around in his mouth, she jumped off the stool and took a few steps back. That way, he couldn't spit on her!
