DADA Lesson One - Eat Flesh

It was a cool pre-lunch morning of the first of February when you make your way to the first floor for another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. Anyone who knew Hirsch's style might know what not to expect: no chairs, no desks and nothing that looked like it belonged to a normal classroom.

However, something you might not have expected is how much the classroom looks less like a classroom and more like an extension of the Hospital Wing. The room is brightly lit, with the light from outside illuminating the four hospital beds in the very centre of the room. With just one look at these beds, it's clear that there's something laying there but what exactly it is is unclear, especially with the black cloth that's conveniently covering them up.

Curious? You might be.

Looking towards the front of the room, you'll notice a desk and, leaning against it, the familiar figure of Professor Hirsch. Cool, calm and collected, the man has his arms crossed against his chest and his legs crossed at the ankles and an expression that says that this was a very normal setup of the room. On the desk is a box of rubber gloves, with the following note on the board directly behind it:

Please pick up a pair of rubber gloves on your way to your seat

So come in, take a pair of gloves and make yourselves comfortable on the mat around the beds. Class is about to start.

Whimpers, that's what she was doing, she was whimpering. Her fear took over and she fully dropped her wand and just stood scared, even after the professor told them it was over she just shook and whimpered.

Was it over?

She looked around, but didn't move, she had been stuck and she was afraid of the lava, her spells weren't coming easily and this was hard.

Why was Hogwarts so hard?

She finally got brave enough to bend down and pick her wand back up, but not to move.

Just as she was about to figure out a way to get off and away from the burning smell, Professor Hirsch ended class and the lava retreated. With a giant sigh of relief, she hopped down and went to gather her things.

As she crossed the room, she noticed the Ravenclaw first year, Chloe, looking rather stressed. "Hey there, it's over now. No need to worry." Emmalyn smiled at the slightly younger girl. "Would you like to leave class with me and we can go and grab some ice cream in the kitchen or something?" She hated seeing anyone look upset and it broke her heart to think of how scared she must have felt not being able to preform the spell while being stuck in lava. Her head shook as she glanced over to Professor Hirsch. She wasn't sure how he expected the younger students to preform a 5th year spell, especially while being attacked by lava.

Hearing someone's voice she finally stopped looking at the floor enough to look up. "Yes, yes... please." Though she hadn't fully moved yet. She looked back at her feet to make sure it was really over and then she noticed the lava wasn't there anymore, so he had removed it.

"I do like ice cream."

Shuffling more than walking away from the spot she was stuck she reached her things and picked up her bag. "Can we get far away from here?" Sorry head of house but she was hoping to not come back to this class for awhile.

"Yes, far away from here." She nodded and grinned reassuringly. The lesson was over, so there was absolutely no reason for them to remain in the room any longer. Plus, the kitchen was about as far away from the DADA classroom as they could go while still remaining in the castle. "I'm glad you like ice cream" She chatted as she watched Chloe grab her things, "My favorite is strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce on top."

Once Chole had her things, she gestured for her to follow as she walked towards the door. Just before exiting, she turned back towards the professor. "Thanks for the class, Professor Hirsch, it was very...um...well, it was a bit scary. And yucky. Yes, it was a bit scary and yucky." She shrugged her shoulders and turned to walk out.

Welp, it turned out that his whole 'sit on the rafter' idea was a waste as it wasn't long until Professor Hirsch called an end to class. So Ronan grabbed the rope he'd climbed up with and slid down it, fireman-style. A decision that earned him a good rope burn on his hands and other.... delicate areas. Oh, why had he thought that was a good idea?! Grimacing a little as he gathered his stuff, he said a quick "See you later!" to the professor before leaving to get himself some burn salve.
