Muggle Studies Lesson 1- Let's Play! (Sports)

With the months of December, January and February generally being the coldest in Scotland and the new year being no different, Kay had taken the proper precautions to ensure her classroom was warm and toasty. There was a fire merrily cackling away for one thing. It was warm enough to make anyone want to nap but not hot enough to make any of the kiddos sweat. The desks and chairs were arranged as usual- a path in the middle from the front of the room to the back with two sections of furniture.

Hanging from the walls were various posters. These posters will give you a hint about what today’s lesson will be about. In the meanwhile, you are free to take a seat. Professor Kay sits behind her desk, chin resting on her linked fingers thanks to her arms propped on the desk by her elbows. Unfortunately, there is no trace of her signature smile. In fact, he expression is almost blank and she seems to be in another world. Despite this, she greets you.

OOC: Heeeey! Welcome to our first OOC lesson! We’ll get started in 24- 27 hours so feel free to have those kiddos interact with their peers and Kay. Though don’t go overboard with the chatting!

SOoooooooooooooo...making sure the latch was locked and such, Derf tucked it safely under his chair and followed the rest of the class to the Entertainment Room...only to catch Edward heading in the opposite direct? "OI! Room is this way!" he called out with some very helpful finger pointing in the direction everyone else was walking.

You know, just being your friendly neighborhood Hufflepuff over here.

Why did puffs always want to be helpful and friends. Eddie swore he had ten on his "list" already, but this one he didn't want to not acknowledge, this one was one he was trying to be nice to and actually be social with.

Turning he forced a smile, which was not something people saw from the boy often. "Oh yeah, thanks Derf, guess I was thinking it was that way."
Bloody Hufflepuff if he got a hold of his drinks at some point, but his smile showed he was fine with being told where to go even if his thoughts did not.

Sports really weren’t Stasya’s thing. Not when she was most familiar with Gobstones because of her mama, not to mention the games Professor Baldvinsson taught them about in Flying. None of those were Muggle sports, and she didn’t really know a lot about squib rights either. Except for the fact the topic reminded her of Kitty’s protests, along with the weird things that were happening at the castle this term. That message the Head Girl had painted in the Entrance Hall, and also her curiosity and nervousness about how blank Professor Stewart had looked. It had all resulted in her having stayed quiet during the discussion, looking around with her grey-green eyes as the others had offered their thoughts. As Derf had offered his thoughts, and she wasn’t entirely clear on if his question had been answered. Which only made more questions appear in her mind, but she was still keeping them for whenever she could talk to Professor Hirsch again.

Leaving her bag in here while they moved elsewhere made her uncomfortable too. How were they supposed to know they’d be safe and not get gone through? She had paused before making a decision either way, but as everyone else had stowed their things with less trepidation, the second year had carefully slid her bag under her seat and followed the stragglers to the other room.

Uh.... excuse you, Ronan Carter? Skylar shot him a look when he seemed to disagree with her about 'struggling to keep their derrière on a broom' or 'disgusting gunk'. Maybe people who were less talented had to worry about such things, but that would be the same with any sport.

And she might have retorted back with such a remark, except that Kaysha Stewart seemed to be disagreeing with her and saying she wasn't open minded or whatever. That and they were moving on to an activity, but still. "I run." She said simply; that was a muggle sport, there was Ms "I side with the less talented Gryffindor" happy now? Because apparently unless she enjoyed some muggle sport, she was close-minded.

Entertainment room? Were they going to be playing a video game of a muggle sport? Or was the entertainment room used for more than just muggle technology? Packing her notes and pencil into her bag, she left it beside her desk and moved into the room, curious as to what sport they'd be playing. Surely as a talented wizard beater, it wouldn't be too terrible. Hopefully.

Kay nodded. “Running is always great cardio. It’s also key for track events. I encourage you to try that sometime. Not professionally, of course, but you’ll see just how wonderful that friendly competition with others can be.’’

“Two points for your help, Mr Ashburry- Hawthorne.’’ Though Kay was not stupid; she had the sneaking feeling Edward wanted to sneak off. Nevertheless, Derf had been helpful especially to first years who might still be unfamiliar with the layout of the castle.

And now they were moving to the entertainment room. Ronan got up and packed his stuff into his bag. Once everything was packed and his bag zipped, he put it under his desk and pushed his chair up, making sure his stuff was as hidden as it could be given the circumstances. Not that he was dumb enough to keep his valuables in there or anything. More of a 'just in case' type of thing. That done, he followed the rest of the class to the other room.

“I understand, Mr Carter. Just remember that you shouldn’t respond in an offensive way either. Keep yourself calm and present a great argument for your belief instead.’’

Once sure that all the kiddos were out of the classroom, the Professor closed the door and locked it by casting the Anti Unlocking charm on it. These days they needed to be careful since students’ belonging had been stolen earlier in the school term.
