i actually really like and respect that theory. we all saw how jean grey was reborn, er..well...yah as the phoenix in the xmen movies (although it was explained completely WRONG!) at the end of the second movie, as the camera pans across the flood waters that she stopped to save the team, we see the sillohuette (i can't spell) of a phoenix flying over the water. lo and behold, she comes back because the phoenix spirit manifests itself in her body and protects her from death (it is not a split personality. that was WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!!)

Lmao. A McGonagall and Dumbledore thread? I like it. I would have to agree with the ship though. They are really like a bunch of teenagers in the book, too shy to admit their feelings to each other really. If they had just let their hair down then maybe something could of happened before the Astronomy tower incident.

I actually dont think that Dumbledore and Minerva had that kind of relationship. I probably think this due to the fact that I believe we will see Minerva's husband in the next book. Jo has said that teacher do go home on holiday on occasion (for those who do not need to stay..) and we will meet one of the professors spouses. (Seen on mugglenet). I think she has a husband.

Do you not remember Dumbledore is ALWAYS taking about Madem Pomfre (sp>) he always calls her "Poppy" Come on, dumbledore even has a pet name for her! Remember when he said in SS (to Minerva in fact..) I havent blushed like that since poppy notice my ear muffs. If a simple compliment made him blush he obviously felt something for her. I doubt Dumbledore and Minerva though....

This gives me a lot of food for thought. The more I read and think about it, I guess it could have been a possibility. Certainly after watching GoF.

But I don't think they would become a couple if DD had survived HBP, it's mentioned before in the replies, I think that their professionalism keep them apart.

So no Dumbledore/McConagall ship for me...

It would be interesting to see her "other" life, but I don't know whether JKR would have time to develop any part of it. Somehow, I think, after so many books, it's hard for me to really picture McGonagall with a husband. It's almost like I see her as the type of person who would find romance a bit frivolous or something, you know? I think she embraces the power of love (and marriage for others), certainly, but I don't see her as the type to be wooed. (Although, we did see her blush and laugh when Hagrid kissed her on the cheek that one Christmas...when she was a bit tipsy, so I suppose she's not that uptight all the time.) If she did have a husband, which is certainly possible, I find it hard to picture her ever having a romance or anything like that. It's so not her.

I think that is why I always fancied Dumbledore and McGonagall to have a little connection because they are both so opposite. Dumbledore is relaxed, layed back. McGonagall is stern and uptight. And I think I always found them attracted by mutual respect and admiration rather than actual romance. They both understand and appreciate the power and saving grace of love, so that could have been uniting. But, I think they were always very professional, which would have been in the way.

I do think that Poppy was, in fact, her name...JKR loves using flowers for names aside from Poppy Pomphrey: Petunia (Dursley), Lily (Evans Potter), the Fat Lady's friend, Violet, Lavender (Brown), Moaning Myrtle, Narcissa (Malfoy)[the plant is Narcissus, although JKR used her name as a female Narcissus from Greek mythology], Olive (Hornby), Pansy (Parkinson), Basil (who worked with Mr. Weasley), etc. So, I don't think that it was a pet name.

However, I do think that Dumbledore was more openly affectionate with Madam Pomphrey than she ever did with Professor McGonagall. I think Dumbledore and McGonagall were too professional to ever establish a romantic spark.

I have always belived that there was some kind of chemistrey between minerva and Dumbledor. If their was a relationship though they wouldn't want the public to know. I mean mostly for proffesional reasons. I think that Dumbledor was always to busy though. If there was a relationship it would have ended as the years went on because Dumbledor got increasingly busy as he was planning his death.

Oh God, I almost LOLed! I can't imagine it. McGonagall's too strict for Dumbledore. xD

I really could never imagine anything happening between McGonagall and Dumbledore. I always thought it would be just too convenient for JK to have them fall in love with one another. And I just couldn't see it.
What will this ship do now, I wonder? I mean, now we all know about Dumbledore not going for the ladies.
I would put that in proper terms but I'm unsure whether things like that are allowed to be discussed and I don't want to get in trouble. I have no problems with it though, just so we're clear.

Yep, JKR did say that DD is gay. I think their relationship was simply based on mutual trust and respect.

I've always inwardly loved this pairing. It's the only reason I cared that Dumbledore was gay, because that meant that nothing was happening between them. D:
