| Spot's Poems - Sa13+ Thanks for stopping by my Poetry Thread, please take your time to read these, there are several pages of them covering loads of topics (mostly HP related) if you are visiting for the first time in response to the Golden Goblin nominations, enjoy these first few pages of poems I submitted years ago but there are also many more recent submission on the latter pages.....
and as always, if you have a topic that you don't see and would be interested in having me attempt a poem about it, just respond to me your idea and I'll do my best......
okay folks here's the first one....
Quidditch
The whistle blows, its time to fly
to win is what we quest,
the game’s at hand, we all must try
the snitch will grant us rest.
We score our goals and swing our bats
to beat our bludgers back,
we fly as one formation
using the Hawkshead attack.
Our foe is strong, so is the wind
they score and now its tied,
but its not them I fly against,
for Sirius has just died.
He was my future and my past
he was to be my friend,
he saw me fly, just like my dad,
I saw him at his end.
I hate this game, I love it too
I don’t know what to feel,
my life is too confusing
my heart ache too surreal.
I hear the cheer, did someone score?
the crowd begins to wail,
the noise reminds me of the night,
that Sirius fell through the veil.
His last words echo, “that’s all you have?”
each night I dream the same,
his playful bark, his clownish acts
he thought it just a game.
But games are left for Quidditch pitches
where losers still survive,
in fights for good and evil
even winners too my die.
The snitch has now appeared to me
and catch it, I must go,
but with the burden of his death
and knowing what I know.
A win is just another task
and Quidditch just a game,
for real life has its consequences
in death there is no fame.
The whistle blows, I’ve caught the snitch
we win the game again,
It means so little to me now
I’ve lost my closest friend.
Sir Spots
and for those of you here for the first time I have moved my latest poem (Deathly Hallows) from the back to this first page for your enjoyment.......Spots THE DEATHLY HALLOWS This is a story as old as time,
and passed from some to others.
The Deathly Hallows, put to rhyme,
in the tale of the Peverell Brothers
The three, it seemed, were wizards great,
who challenged Death one night.
He gave them “gifts”, which sealed their fate,
they left without a fight.
For Antioch, a boastful brother,
the eldest of the three.
He craved a wand built like no other,
made from the Elder tree.
The Death Stick’s core is Thestral hair,
and fifteen inches long.
Opposing wizards must take care,
this wand can do no wrong.
Then Cadmus, as the second son,
made his intentions known.
Humiliating death for fun,
the Resurrection Stone.
A black stone from the riverbed,
turned thrice upon your hand.
Brings back your loved ones from the dead,
just not the way you planned.
Ignotus was the youngest man,
untrusting humble bloak.
To hide from death’s grasp, was his plan,
beneath a special cloak.
An everlasting black shroud of,
invisibility.
To disappear from sight above,
and hide where none can see.
Each took their gifts and went their way,
and thought they’d conquered Death.
But in the end, the stories say,
he still took each one’s breath.
For Antioch, while drunk one night,
a robber did the deed.
He stole the wand and slipped from sight,
and killed him, just for greed.
When Cadmus tried to use the stone,
his love appeared, as veiled.
Gone mad with grief, he took his own,
since resurrection failed.
Ignotus was the smartest one,
but yielded in the end.
He passed the cloak on to his son,
and left with Death, as friend.
These gifts appear throughout all time,
passed on from son to son.
I’d be amiss, if in my rhyme,
I forgot “The Chosen One”.
The cloak was in his family line,
Ignotus Peverell.
Got passed to him when it came time,
was told to “use it well”.
The Elder Wand, he never sought,
his broke, he used a loaner.
But, when both he and Draco fought,
he became the Death Stick’s owner.
The Resurrection Stone was hid,
inside the snitch he’d chose.
Instructions scripted on its lid,
“I open at the close”.
So in the end, he owned all three,
and truly was Death’s master.
When cursed to die, he didn’t flee,
it rebounded upon its caster.
The ring, he lost, the cloak, he kept,
to pass on to another.
The Elder Wand, he wouldn’t accept,
its power like no other.
To put it back from where it came,
not use it for its glory.
To put an end to that wand’s fame,
and end to Beedle’s story. (please let me know what you think, I have other ideas, thanks for reading)

Oh, wow! It's great!
I wish I could write like that!
Post your other ideas!
You captured Harry's feeling really well!
I like this stanza:
I hate this game, I love it too
I don’t know what to feel,
my life is too confusing
my heart ache too surreal.
I love it! Post more soon please!

Nice work, Sir Spots... I think you did a good job capturing Harry's anguish... and I think that Quidditch will always be a bit bittersweet for him. Especially considering his broom was a gift from Sirius.
(Psst... I'm a poetry snob... and I like your poem. It actually scans. Go you!)

why thank you Angel, here's my next piece called
Memory
He saved my life, I know not how
I wasn’t there to see,
when I awoke, just two of us
the third, a memory
They say he fought a basilisk
with tools both new and old,
they say he came alone and scared
my Knight of Red and Gold.
A sorting hat, from days gone past
and Fawkes, from Dumbledore,
he slain the snake with jeweled sword
from Godric Gryffindor.
They say the fang would kill him sure
if Phoenix tears didn’t heal,
but if he had, how could I live,
with such a weight to feel.
He knows not how I’ve loved him such
since first I heard his name,
back in our house, then in the halls
I wish he felt the same.
He picks me up and carries me out
to everyone’s surprise,
I wonder what has happened there
to see it in his eyes.
I long for him to tell me
that he’d do it all again,
that love is what he has for me
his love until the end.
But I must wait for now to see
if I am what he craved,
or was it just a school in fear
that caused me to be saved.
So close to love yet still I wait
and hope he’ll come for me,
for of that day he saved my life…
it’s just a memory.
Sir Spots

Yep yep yep... Nice work again, Sir Spots. Ginny is my FAVORITE character, and I think you captured her here very nicely. You have to wonder what was going through her head as she was leaving the Chamber of Secrets. I'm sure she was so embarassed and horrified at what had happened, but there was Harry - who she had this giant crush on - saving her. ... thanks for the PM.

Oh my dear dancing banana!
:dance_banana:
Thank you for making me click this link Sir Spots! I love the poems and I am in AWE at anybody who can write as beautifully as you. Poetry... gah! I can't grasp it... I'll stick to my fanfics I guess. Anyway, great work. Loving Ginny's character certainly helps me appreciate 'Memory' even more... :cat:
I can't wait to get more!

Thanks everybody, here's one that actually appeared as a cheer for the Quiditch match that's taking place between Gryffindor and Slytherin, note that if you're not in Gryffindor don't take offense, it's all in good sport
Gryffindor Cheer
Porskoff Ploy
and Wronski Feint
they’re the moves
that we can make
Plumpton Pass
or Sloth Grip Roll
whatever it takes
to score a goal
Gryffindors
of red and gold
in this match
our lead we’ll hold
No loops or tackles
will scar our name
Gryffindors
will win the game!
Sir Spots
stay tuned, soon a Limerick about our dear friend Hagrid.....

That was a really good cheer. (And I'm in a good position to judge- I was an actual cheerleader for six years!)

thanks, Erin, Kris, Roxanne and Angel
this next one is my attempt at a Limerick, you know...
there once was a girl from nantucket.....
anyway let me know if you like the format, its a little more difficult
than what I'm used to....
Hagrid
His name is Rubeus Hagrid
gamekeeper is his vocation,
he’s vast like a tree
and the first that you’ll see
upon arriving at Hogsmeade’s train station.
Big hearted, he’s gentle and dear
his task is to escort you here,
“first years” he’ll call loud
near him, will you crowd
with excitement, caution and fear.
At Hogwarts he can be found
in a hut, at the edge of the grounds,
with his crossbow and quill
or a cauldron of swill
and fang, his loyal boarhound (hey that’s me )
While dangerous his creatures can get
for the record, no one’s died yet,
Norbert, Beaky and fire-newts
even Blast-Ended Skrewts
And Fluffy his three-headed pet.
In the Forest, are the wild and the tame
and the Centaurs who know him by name,
Aragog and the Thestrels
Hippogriffs, Grawp, unicorns
I’d steer clear if its all just the same.
As a Giant his trouble it seemed
was to find one to make his heart beam,
but she came in from France
“clear the floor”, watch them dance
his love’s name is Madame Maxime.
A truer friend, you’ll never need
with Hagrid, he’ll take your lead,
he’ll battle your foes
then get pink in the nose
with some fire-whiskey and malt meade.
For his name is Rubeus Hagrid
takes care of the students, you’ll see,
none’s better for sharing
or wild beast caring
or keeping the game, than he.
Sir Spots
