thanks Serena, I've had several people say that about submitting them to be published, but......well I just like to write them for you guys, I had actually stopped writing poems for a long time before I came to this site, it sort of sparked something again......but I appreciate the nice comments.

Dagger, thanks for reading I'll try to update as often as possible....Spots

Okay, I know it's been a long time since I posted, but I was watching a re-air of Sorcerer's Stone and it inspired me to write something down so here ya go......

HOGWARTS

Make a wish and snuff them all
Eleven candles burn
An owl arrives to make the call
For Hogwarts, it’s your turn.

With your letter comes a tally
Which means a trip to London town
To the streets of Diagon Alley
Where your school supplies are found

With trunks in tow like your wizard friends
Down the steps to Charring Cross station
Through the wall that’s between platforms nine and ten
Board the Express with anticipation

The train slows down, you change your clothes
In to your student’s wear
You take your tip from those who know
The older ones who’ve been there

The sorting hat will sing its song
And decide which house you’re in
As old as time, it’s never wrong
Then you hear, “Let the feast, begin.”

As classes start you learn your route
To the subjects that you’ll take
The names of spells and charms you’ll shout
And the potions that you’ll make

The years will pass, your knowledge grow
To prepare you for what’s to come
But for seven years you’ll come to know
That Hogwarts is your home

Spots

let me know what you think.......

*claps* YAY! A new poem from the Pup. I thought it was very good and not only appropriate for the movie that inspired it, but also for the imminent start of the new SS school term.

Well, as with most of my poems, once I get an idea (or inspiration) it took about an hour.....I'm glad you enjoyed it......

thanks.....actually I had started out thinking i was going to write a new sorting hat poem but realized that the sorting had already been going on for two weeks now *slapshead* (I was going to make it include parts about our current storyline....) so then since I was watching the movie, I decided to refocus my energy to this poem instead......gald you enjoyed it.....maybe I'll write one for the alien once he's born (On May 12th of course....hehe)

tee hee... you could always make something up for the Hogwarts Express that starts on Saturday... which reminds me, I need to check in with Ty to be sure she's all set with starting things up and stuff, just in case. LOL

A competition as to when Alien is going to be born. I'm pulling for May 11. He'd be a nice birthday present. Love the new poem Spot. It fits the movie perfectly. Why don't you write one for the opening feast that could recap last terms highlights. That would be a good way to inform the new students of what's been happening. Of course Miss Leiden would want at least half of it devoted to her personally. Hee Hee.

I'm the same way. Once I get the creative juices flowing, I just start writing away until I'm finished. Can't wait for the next one.

Thanks Terry, actually I think I will write one involving the Goblet of Fire since that is the movie to come out next and I have some other ideas about subjects (like each of hte tasks, and what Harry might be doing this summer before HBP comes out)

Kris, I did already do one about the Hogwarts express although not specifically for this term..... here

Wow, you're very talented! Ok, so I only read the first 2 pages and this page (because my eyes hurt now, it's midnight, and I'm sleepy), and all those poems are amazing! I'm a total idiot next to you . And to think, I just sent in a poem for a new thread! Mine can't, and won't, even compare to these. You actually had me going with your first Remus poem, I admit I got teary-eyed. I'm still in awe... Very cool!!!

Well thanks, Laieesha and SASCH for your kind words, but don't be discouraged about your own talents. The Poetry thread is by no means a competition. It is a place for people who have an interest in writing and reading poems. There are many varying levels of poetry listed in these threads submitted by readers of all ages and interests. I enjoy reading all of them. Good luck to both of you with your poetry and remember that they are an expression of your personality, emotion and beliefs and will stand alone to be appreciated by our readers.

Snitchseeker

Snitchseeker, snitchseeker, what a great place
There’s no Website better in the World Wide Web space

For all Potter fans, it’s the place with the most
To see latest news, or new pics, or just to post

There’s sections for everyone to visit and stop
Aragog’s Web, Madame Malkins and Zonko’s Joke shop

Is art work or fanfics or poems more your pace?
Then you’ll find good company in Grimmauld Place

For rookies who don’t know the who or the what
All Newbies are welcomed into Hagrid’s Hut

And if you are into some Role Playing instead
You can share your new characters in The Hogs Head

And speaking of Role Playing, what makes SS cool
You can even get sorted and play in their School

Complete all your studies when you take a class
And see if your homework gets a grade that will pass

Four houses to play in and meet other friends
With so many options, who knows where it ends

The only complaint that I’ve ever had there
Is when I logged on to a “data base error”

This place is just awesome, don’t take just my words
It’s been nominated for 3 Seeker Awards

But the best part of this site you’ll see when you come
Is how much the mods make you feel right at home

They’re friendly, they’re smart and found ‘round the site
They’re ready to help and they won’t even bite

They’re here cause they love the same things that you do
To make visiting the site so much better for you

So join me at Snitchseeker morning or night
With the best staff of mods at the best Potter site

okay so I was going to submit a poem for the HBP poetry contest (oh I still am ) but along the way this sort of popped into my head and I liked the idea so here is the first installment. I will post a new year every several days or so as I get a chance to write them.....as always.....enjoy

Harry Potter (first year)

A knock on the door and you jolt awake
And you wonder, is it your life they’re here to take?
A giant walks in, you feel the ground quake
“You’re a Wizard,” he says, oh for goodness sake.

“A wizard?” you say, “are you sure you mean me?”
“Here’s your letter,” he says, “just read this and you’ll see.”
“But you’ve made a mistake, for I’m just Harry”
But a wizard you are, “thumpin’ good one,” says he.

To Diagon Alley you go for a stop
To buy cauldrons and wands in a wizarding shop
It’s behind the Leaky Cauldron just a step and a hop.
Til you’re fitted for school from the bottom to top.

You make friends and get dressed, the train slows to a crawl
Cross the lake, up the stairs and in to the Great Hall
You’re amazed at the magic, as you take it in all
You get sorted and seated near your friends, by the wall.

Through your classes you struggle and try to fit in
And you’re constantly told how you look like your kin
You can’t wait for you first Quidditch match to begin
But with all this adversity you still manage to win

As if all of this wasn’t enough of a sport
Save the Sorcerer’s Stone with your best friend’s support
Through the dungeons and challenges to try and thwart
The most evilest of wizards known as Lord Voldemort

It's hard to believe from your eleventh birthday
You accomplished so much in a magical way
Who knows what in you future more challenges lay
“Let’s just hope Harry Potter’s there to save the day.”
