In response to a very good suggestion by several of you recently, I am opening a thread where poetically-challenged people can make requests of a poem for any occasion (birthday, wedding, birth, rainy days, get well soon.....etc) or most any subject (music, movies, books, sports). Those of us who want to give it a go will respond with a poem as quickly as possible by posting them here. You must follow all SS Rules and Guidelines in your submissions. Please have fun with this and be creative......enjoy.

okay i guess i should give ya'll a tatser of what we have here, so here is a poem for someones birthday:

obviously you cant exactly credit so just take it if you want it. In the thread i guess you need to tell us the occasion and anything specific you want in the poem mmkay! so request from us!!!

since u sed put us to the test hopefully u can make a poem about fleur

can you make one about getting the first letter from Hogwarts...that is always exiting!

When i looked in the mail what did I see,
A letter from Hogwarts,
A letter for me.
My heart quickly beating,
I jumped up for joy,
I went to tell my family in the kitchen eating,
Tears filled their eyes as i told them the news,
My mom would miss me,
My brother would too,
Quick me and dad went to Diagon Alley,
We gathered supplies,
And before I knew it I said "Goodbye" to my family.

The Invitation


You gaze from your window and watch them pass by
as they fly straight to their destination
even though you’ve left opened your windows, you sigh
wondering when you’ll get your invitation.

With each passing moment, your worries increase
and you strain your ears trying to hear
the sound of the post owl causing your fears to cease
saying you're going to Hogwarts this year.

as the crackers all crumble and smoke dies away
from the candles on your birthday cake
you gaze back towards the window, see the sky fade to grey
feeling how could they make this mistake

but as all hope is lost and you reach for the shutter
closing off the room from the night chill
you turn back towards the window at the sound of a flutter
see an owl perched on your window sill

Your heart skips a beat as you open the clasp
and you let the bird softly slip through
you remove a brown envelope held in it grasp
it's a message addressed just to you

"A School of Witchcraft and Wizardry waits
for the children who show inspiration
in the mystical talents and magical traits"
says your personalized invitation

Once you've read it three times you're convinced that it's true
and you fall asleep full of emotions
now instead of a muggle life, waiting for you
is the world of magic and potions.

okay how's this off the top of my head:

When I first saw you I cried,
The thought of you made me want to die,
The scar so burdened upon you haunted my dreams,
The bright green eyes did so as well it seems.

Speech fails me from sight and sound,
I can barely touch the baren ground,
When you looked at me my face turned red,
My brain a useless block of lead.

I talk and cry for you day after day,
There is so much that I want you to say,
And yet I flutter from child to child,
Longing for your love, bitter-sweet, never mild.

I forced the words out of my mouth,
My eyes facing firmly south,
Waiting for the day Hermione said,
I will kiss you before going to bed.

You caught me in the tapestry,
Anger was all I could see,
I fretted along my life ahead,
Until the day turned red.

I forced myself to play my best,
Though my heart was with you,
I saw you walk through that door,
And I couldn't have held.

I ran to you, your arms spread wide,
What I didn't expect was the kiss, a wide ride,

Straight backed, he picked up his knife,
Made a small cut, then slowly cut a slice,
Fingers were calloused, worn, and rough,
Lupin ate oranges, forgetting his life so tough.

Sugary liquid dribbled down his mouth,
His drawer of napkins seemed to be out,
He swiped his mouth with the back of his hand,
Then, like a girl, tucked away a single strand.

Greedily, he looked towards the fruits,
Even as he knew he should put on his boots,
With a heavy sight he got out of his chair,
Calling down his daughter to go to the fair.

His eyes shining bright,
He watches the fight,
His winnings and woes,
His friends and his foes

He moves with stealth,
he's known for his wealth,
but I love his heart,
though it tears me apart.

I wish he loved me too,
It makes me so blue,
But I'll not give up hope,
I'm tied to him like a rope.

We were meant to be,
and soon he will see,
Our love can't be wrong,
For it's far too strong.

A few taps with your wand on the plain looking wall
And you’ll know that you’re in for a treat
You step back to avoid quaking bricks as they fall
Then step onto the wizarding street

Lined with shops on each side as it winds round the bend
You scan store names in hopes that you’ll find
The one shop with the treasures where you’ll gladly spend
On the sweets of this magical kind

Past the Twilfit and Tattings’ and Quidditch Supplies
Olivanders and Flourish and Blotts’
In the shop full of magical candy you’ll find
Wizard treats made by old Bertie Botts

Flavored beans is his trade, and his candy’s the best
A small bag costs you just 8 knuts
And to guess each bean’s flavor is truly the test
Things like earwax, paprika or nuts

There’s the sweet ones like sugar and custard and cherry
Chocolate mousse, marzipan, candy floss
But you’ll also find spinach, zucchini and curry
Caviar, brussel sprouts, tartar sauce

You’ll be lucky with cinnamon, coconut too
Peppermint, lemondrop would be nice
Strawberry jelley or raisin or a fresh honeydew
Even lemon or lime would suffice

But be careful to not pick the beans with the flecks
Because that’s where the gross ones are hid
Things like centipede, toe nails, sand and latex
Rotten eggs, baking soda and squid

Just imagine your shock when you take a big bite
And expect to taste smooth peanut butter
But you shout in disgust and say “something’s not right”
“It tastes more like cucumber”, you utter

A surprise in each bag awaits each hungry buyer
But take caution and eat them with care
For the green bean you chew may not be your desire
‘stead of apple it’s bat bogies there

Lounging at home in the kitchen
When there was a bit of a clatter
what sight should await me except
The sight of an owl at the shutter
In this owl's beak was a letter
and though i thought this day could get no better
I was in for a shock when i opened it up
and thought i was a mad hatter!
i had been personally invited
i was not spurned or slighted
to this magical school
where wizards were cool
and where my ignorance could be righted.
to learn magic and potions and charms
and even learn to take up arms
it was at hogwarts i wanted education
to give me academic salvation
from this sea of unknown to where i could call my home
for there was no school with higher commendation
