| Swedish Lessons / English - Swedish translations! ♪ Golden Badger ♥ clawdia & taylour ♥ Huffie Cappytain ♫ Hello everybody!
I was given the permission to start a Swedish lesson for all of you who are interested in learning.
Come on in, dont be afraid!
Dont mind the Crumple-Horned Snorcack in the corner, he's just there to protect us from anything evil
Let's start off with the basics, if you have any questions or want something translated Swedish-English/English-Swedish do not hesitate to ask
So its the swedish word followed by a very improvised way of how to say the words.
Please remember that this is just for fun and im sorry if the ''fontetics'' are bad, but do feel free to ask about them and i'll do my best to answer them. Or maybe another swedish knowing member can ~ Hello!- Hej! [Hey] - Formal
Hejsan! [Hey-sàn (Like the "san" in Danielsan from the Karate Kid movies)] - Informal Hallå! [Hàll-uo] - Informal - Usually used when answering the phone
~ Goodbye!- Hejdå! [Hey-dou] - Informal, most used
Adjö! [Adjeu (Like the french word, the last syllable is like a swedish Ö)] - Most formal word, not used commonly nowadays but does come up from time to time Hej! [Hey] - Very very informal, almost rude and nonchalant way of saying bye (I mean why cant you say the last word aswell? Lazy people )
~ Good Morning!- God Morgon! [Gooud Mòurrgone (almost like saying 'moron' = morgon)]
also, the word Morgon is usually said 'Morron' - Mòrr-on (on is said like 'un') - Informal
~ Good Afternoon!- God Eftermiddag! [Gooud F-tair-midd-à (midd like in 'middle')] - Informal
~ Good Evening!- God Kväll! [Gooud Kvèll] - informal
God Afton [Gooud Aff-ton (Aff like in Africa, 'ton'- like the wheight)] - formal (Goder Afton was used in old swedish)
~ Good Night!- God Natt! [Gooud Nàtt (Natt like in 'Nott, but with an A!)]
Note: Words with 'God' in the beginning usually do not pronounciate the 'D' at the end.- God Morgon - Gò Morgon
also, the word Morgon is usually said 'Morron' - Mòrr-on (on like in switch on) - Informal
~ See You!- Vi ses! [Ve séass (E like in Ego = siess)]
~ See You Later!- Vi ses Senare! [Ve séass Sénnaerre]
----------------------------------------------
Hope you enjoyed this so far, theres more to come!
Let me know if the ''fonetics'' are to difficult and ill change them, if theres something *bleh* feel free to feed me to the Swedish Short Snout tell me!
~ Claudia

Just like Claudia wrote above. Adjö is pronouces almost exactly like the French Adieu. I am going to point out some similarities in pronounciation between French and Swedish. I know that this is only a help if you know French but anyway. Ö is pronounced as the french eu. A good examples of this is the French word is jeux etc. Å is pronounced as eau. Like the French words eau, drapeau and chapeau etc. Ä is prounounced as ai. Like in the sentence J'ai 20 ans. I hope this was helpful for someone. If I can think of any counterparts for this in English I will try to post them too.
@Claudia: Ledsen för att jag tränger mig på men jag tänkte att det kunde vara till nytta om man ska lära sig svenska.

Hello again!
We continue the lessons with the days of the week and the months!
I will also write how to pronounce the words, what the names mean and some neat history underneath. Again, this is my way of explaining and not a scientific fact! Veckodagarna - Weekdays
The days of the week are named after gods from the Norse Mythology.
Ya know, those dudes up there in Valhalla =p
- In Sweden, the week starts off with Monday Måndag - Monday [ Monndáh - Like the english word Monk] Mån - dag = Moon - Day. Måne, the moon, was a god Tisdag - Tuesday [ Tees-dáh] Tis is named after the god Tyr, also known as Tir Onsdag - Wednesday [ Oons-dáh] Like saying Oompa Loompa... Ons is the shortened name, after the god Oden. Torsdag - Thursday [ Tours - dáh. Same Oompa Loompa 'O' here aswell!] Tors Dag = Tor's Day - Tor is perhaps the most famous Norse Mythology god. He is the one with the hammer! Fredag - Friday [ Fr-ie-dáh] Supposedly the day is called after Oden's wife Frigg. Others say its after the godess Freja. But they might be the same 'person'. Lördag - Saturday [ L-oe-r-dáh] The name comes from the Viking tradition - löga, which means washing. Lögardagen - Washing day. Söndag - Sunday [ S-oen-dáh] This day is called after the Sun godess, in Norse mythology also known as Sunna or Sunne. Sunnudagr = The Sun's Day Månaderna - Months Januari - January Ya-nuuu-ah Februari - February Feb-ru-ari Mars - March Má-Rrr-sh April - April App-Rrr-ill Maj - May M-à-eee Juni - June Y-un-ee Juli - July Y-ul-ee Augusti - August Ah-goose-tí September - September Septemb-eh-r Oktober - October Oo-ktooo-bèh-Rrr November - November No-vem-bèh-Rrr December - December Dess-èh-mbèRrr

I just wanted to say that this thread is awesome. I'd like to widen my Sweedich vocabulary. The only thing I can really say Is Gröna Lund, but that's probably because I spent 6 weeks in there.
Keep up the good work.
Lots of love from Iceland!!
