Red face Sirius Black Discussion: Movies

This thread is for discussion of Sirius Black as protrayed in the movies. This includes Sirius as played by Gary Oldman and the possible role of young Sirius as seen in 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'.

I think Gary Oldman was a wonderful actor and portayed the personality of our "un-hinged" Sirius very well.

However, I did feel that they could've done a better job of having him portray him physically. His hair was brown, not black. This annoyed me. And, honestly, do you see Oldman as being the hearthrob that Sirius was? I don't, but that is my opinion.

I'm waiting anxiously to see who is cast for young Sirius!!! He'd better be hot...

I can tell you that back in the day, Gary was quite a charming man. Outside of films, Gary possesses the bad boy image due to things of his past. I do agree about the darker hair color and I believed that Sirius's hair would have been alot longer than that being in prison for that many year?? His hair would have been down to his ankles if you ask me....

lol Exactly! I mean, the impression I got from reading the books was the he was untamed wild-man. "Wild-men" have much longer hair. Unless the Dementors offered a personal grooming service, it should've MUCH longer, especially since he had long hair before he entered. And his beard and such should've been as well, but the hair bothered me the most.

I am cracking up.....personal grooming service.....

I want to see who they have for young Sirius. Eventhough I love Gary to death, I just don't see him play a young Sirius. We need someone who is hot and musclar and just someone who would sweep us off our feets and get us all gitty inside....that is what I want to see....but please let him be of age....lol!!!!

hahaha Dementors grooming service! ..
I must agree with you .. the overall look of sirius in the movie was quite dissapointing for me. I love gary oldmen .. but i don't think he fitted the sirius description in POA.. i hope they have a handsome young sirius for ootp.

Amen to that one!! *here let me get that screen for you* Welcome to the Dog House...LOL! I just don't want to drool over a 12 year old kid....hopefully they will pick someone who would be around 20ish that just looks young for his age (thinks back to the Karate Kid days). There are plenty of boys out there that would fit the description.

^ Yes, I've said that many times before.

However, as I look back at it, I wouldn't want Gary Oldman EVER changed. The whole drama that had stated he would not be returning sort of gave me a wake-up call. I guess he's grown on me in a way. I mean, yeah...he's only been POA but just seeing him act in other movies as well, & his interviews have made it clear that his personality fits Siry perfect. Yesh, I have a few pet peeves but I could never see the older version of Siry played by a different actor...

As for young Siry... *Hopes and dreams*

I wouldn't like it either if they brought in a new sirius charrie!!.. Its better to stick with one actor .. especially since people acknowledged him as sirius black in the movies!..

Yeah, exactly.

How do you guys think Gary will look in OOTP...? I mean...in POA, he was a bit...well, obsessive to say the least. Do you think they'll keep it true to the book's details or will they pull another POA re-take on us?

I am not sure!! They seem to do the "re-takes" as you say to all the movies. Directors always love to do it their way so I am sure that knowing our luck, he will be nice, clean and not look like Sirius at all....but I could be wrong.

I hate watching the movies thinking....that is not the way it happened in the book. I did read something the other day about JK talking about POA and something in that movie was done perfectly to the last book....I wonder if it is something to do with our Sirius....maybe he's alive...okay I am talking nonsense here and I will be quiet now

No! You're so right! I totally agree! I hate when they mess up the books. I mean, personally I don't think I'd be obsessed with the movies if I hadn't caught on to the books. The screenwriters just need to get on top of things...

However, compared to other "based-on-book" movies out there, I have to say...The HP series isn't too bad in comparison.

They need to stick with books ofcourse, but i think they will bring a relaxed, clean sirius. They'll probably keep the same length hair in POA though. But you never know, it all depends on the producer O.o

Yes, it becomes annoying when they don't follow the book. But they kinda have a point that if the follow the book exactly the movie will be longer(time wise). And depending on its rating they don't want it be really long O.o ..

No please don't be quiet. I am liking your views, Please continue

See, I want that "Relaxed/clean" Siry. I'm really looking forward to the tour of Grimauld Place and Siry just seemed so...happy!

See, I understand that. But, somethings they leave out are MAJOR in the book...I'd defo sit through hours of Siry for OOTP if I had to...As a matter of fact, I wish they would make it long. The more the merrier in my boat.

Taking major parts out!. I remember i was really annoyed in the first movie because they cut some of the tasks harry had to pass to reach the sorceror's stone .. that they should've kept in my opinion!.
I think all HP fans ship the idea of making the HP movies longer with more in it ....

See, with me. I liked SS the way it was. I watched the movie before I read the book and I've just lurved it like that since the begining. First impressions are HUGE for me.

**Realizes this isn't talking about Siry*

Erm, I wonder how the DOM scene will play out... I still have no "final" conclusions of the veil yet...I keep thinking it looks like two totally different things. -ish weird-

Yup, first impression are strong XD

As for the veil, i imaged it to be a soft/silky black curtain that is somewhat see through & wiggles around the atmosphere surrounding it. But i could be wrong .. its only my imagination..

See, I picture it silver. And not so soft...It may look soft but I see it like the kind that feels really hard and stiff...

*Wonders what JKR wrote* Eeek, I haven't read that book in ages! Did she give us good enough detail...? *Runs to go get book*

Me too. I'm wondering how they'll make him look for that film. I agree with you that he wasn't exactly what I imagined in PoA, but still very good.

And about Gary Oldman not being hot enough for Sirius ... well, in his younger days he was quite some guy and I think his personality also fits Sirius. The way he is during interviews and behind-the-scenes-clip also shows that his and Sirius' characters are rather alike.

Very much so. Gary Oldman is just perfect for the role of Sirius as a grown man. I've personally seen many people complain that he isn't hot enough, that he should have a differently styled moustache, neater hair. Some have gone so far as to regard Gary as the 'young' AND 'old' Sirius. Even though I agree with Christa that Gary would have made a pretty fine choice in his youth for the part of young Sirius, I can't help but imagine a different actor for that role. For the adult Sirius Black, though, I can imagine no better choice than Gary Oldman.

Also, I reckon that in OOTP they'll give him a more honed so-to-speak, groomed look, hence making him look even better. Hehe, anticipating...

Please don't misunderstand me, I loved Oldman as Sirius in PoA. But I can't help feeling they could've changed his appearance to a little more canon. I think Gary looked just like Sirius should've after just escaping Azkaban, but like things with the hair color and length and stuff, those just bothered me.

And yes, I'm sure they'll do a fine job on him in OoTP.

And also, I'm not that familiar with Gary Oldman, so I couldn't say that I think his character off-screen is a good fit with Sirius like some of you had said. Although, honestly, I don't think an actor's own personality should weigh a lot o
