Default SBFC Topic #5 - Siriusly Flying

Sirius And The Flying Motorcycle

Sounds like a new childrens book for the title. In this thread we will discuss Sirius' motorcycle. I have always found this quite interesting and want to see what the rest of you think. We know that Sirius gave Hagrid the motorcycle to take baby Harry to the Dursley's but what we don't know is where is it now and how did he come upon such an unusual muggle artifact.

Questions to think about:
Where is it now?
How did he come upon the motorcycle?
Why he gave it to Hagrid?
Anything else you would like to add...

Fascinating

It could be anywhere, but since hagrid was the last person seen with it, and knowing hagrid i am pretty sure the motorcycle is most likely hidden somewhere inside the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid is not the type of person that looses his belongings over time, but i am not sure why it wasn't used after book 1, i hope we get to see more of it in book 7.

I would say sirius, being the rebel he always is loved motorbikes from the first time he spotted them, however, he's also not any normal wizard {marauder}. So he added a little magic to it to make it fly , or maybe inhertited from a black XD. But i'd rather go with the first one, he bewitched it to fly and so forth became a flying motorcycle XD.

He gave it to hagrid right after voldemort destroyed the potter's hiding place in Godric's Hollow. Sirius went there as soon as he found peter was not in his place, he knew something wasn't right and had to go check on the potters but when arrived they were both murdered. Hagrid arrived there on dumbledore's orders to pick up harry. Sirius tried to take harry, but hagrid refused stating that he strictly followed dumbledore's orders and so sirius gave him the motorbike to take harry back to dumbledore and he chased down peter.

However, i think sirius gave hagrid the motorbike because he didn't want the death eaters, voldemort, nor peter to spot him. Probably everyone in the wizarding world knew sirius had a flying motorbike and as such he wanted to be discrete and gave it to hagrid so everyone thinks he's going in hagrid's direction, as a diversion. So he'll be able to chase down peter faster.

I just love the idea of the flying motorbike it totally fits sirius' rebellous character and its just makes him more hawt! hehehe
I am just sad he didn't get to enjoy it much and spent his entire time dwelling in azkaban .

Where is it now?
The last time we seen it, was with Hagrid. It probably ended up near Hagrid's hut or maybe inside the Forbidden Forest. Just like the Ford Anglia.
How did he come upon the motorcycle?
Sirius come from a rich family, I supposed he inherited it. And maybe since James was too good in flying the broomsticks, why not fly in a similar way using a different thing. I guess he somehow made it fly (like what Arthur did). What a brilliant idea from Sirius!
Why he gave it to Hagrid?
When it comes to emergency, why not? And maybe he thought Hagrid cant possibly fly well using a broomstick. Thats what I think...

Ah, interesting topic. Let's get started:

Where is it now?
I'll agree with the others and say that Hagrid still has it hidden somewhere. I guess it's in the Forbidden Forest, because it seems like it's his junk yard (he also put Aragog there). But I can't even guess why it hasn't been used since book 1. Harry inherited it so he should get it sometime soon.

How did he come upon the motorcycle?
He's a rebel, he's got a lot of money, he's cool - and he's a Marauder. All this added together makes a cool biker. He probably bought it (I don't think that he inherited it, because I always thought of it as a shining new bike) and bewitched it a little to make it fly - probably with James and Remus' help.

Why he gave it to Hagrid?
After the Potters' death he wanted to help in any way possible. Giving the bike to Hagrid ensured that Harry would get to his relatives savely. Although I'm sure that Sirius didn't like the Dursleys at all he knew that he wouldn't be able to keep Harry, so he wanted to make sure he arrived savely.

Anything else you would like to add ...
I think the idea of a flying motorbike is simply awesome and it adds greatly to his image as a rebel and a true Marauder.

Hrmm...well here's my input...
Where is it now? I agree with the majoity above me and say it is probably somewhere in the Forbidden Forest or perhaps at Grimmauld place or inside Hogwarts.

How did he come upon the motorcycle? I usppose since his family was so wealthy that he either bought it or inherited it. Or maybe his friends gave it to him as a present.

Why he gave it to Hagrid? Becuase he wanted to help of cousre if he couldn't keep Harry he'd help Hagrid keep him safe and gte him to safetey as quick as possible....or if his freinds gave it to him perhaps it reminded him to much of James and wanted to rid himself of some of the pain at the moment.

Anything else you would like to add ... Yes, {Sirius so lets me ride his motorbike.} I think the idea of a flying motobike is awesome and adds greatly to Sirius' rebel appeal

Nice topic Stacey...

Where is it now?
Hagrid probably has it somewhere. I'm surprised he hasn't been using it... maybe his weight broke it or something... Maybe it'll turn up in the Forbidden Forest like Ron's car... that would be nice...

How did he come upon the motorcycle?
I guess he bought it and bewitched it to make it fly. Or maybe he bought it already enchanted from some wizarding shop. Diagon Alley's not the only wizarding street in England, and I bet we haven't seen half the shops that exist. On the other hand, he could have inherited it from his Uncle Alphard... I have a funny feeling that might have been written somewhere in Book 5... *ponders, and eventually makes a note to check it up when she feels less lazy*

Why did he give it to Hagrid?
Perhaps he thought that tracking down Peter required stealth and so wanted to dispose of his motorbike before going to track down Peter. Alternately, he might have known that Peter could pull some stunt and that he could end up in Azkaban, so perhaps he wanted to give a particularly prized possession such as his motorbike to someone who would appreciate it. Or maybe after James' death he just didn't feel like keeping the bike any more.

Anything else you would like to add...
I love the idea of Sirius having a motorbike (especially a flying one, SQUEE!!!!) and I think it adds greatly to his image, character and hotness. I can just picture him soaring through the air on that cool black bike... *sigh*

Very good question I am so glad that you ask it.

Where is it now?

I think that once Hagrid used it to pick up Harry that Dumbledore had Hagrid hide it somewhere on the Hogwarts school grounds in case it was ever needed again.

How did he come upon the motorcycle?

I think that when Sirius was in school he heard about motorcycles from one of the Muggle students maybe and from that moment on was hooked. He secretly studied them and learned the mechanics as Arthur Weasley does and when he finally figured out everything he built his motorcycle from scratch using magic to make it more efficent for a Wizard. That is why is what so large that it held Hagrid. Sirius made it a bit to big but decided to leave it the way ii was because it was his first motorcycle. Then he began the construction of another that was interupted by his stay in Azkaban.

Why he gave it to Hagrid? He gave it to Hagrid because he appreciated the work and the craftmenship that Sirius put into the cycle. Sirius also knew that he was going to confront Wormtail and he would either kill one of his friends and go to Azkaban or be killed in the process. He knew that he would not return and he wanted to give the motorcycle to someone who would take care of it.

Anything else you would like to add...I don't mean to contradict my self but as I was writing this I began to think if the motorcycle was on school grounds why didn't Hagrid give it back to Sirius in the fourth or fifth book. He could have used it to travel. He could have used the Disillusionment Charm on it and himself.

I think he got the bike because it gives him that 'bad boy' image he seemed to love so much when he was younger.
He'd obviously had given the bike to Hagrid when Hagrid said he had to be taken to the Dursley's, if he hadn't given it and Harry to Hagrid and left with the both of them, he probably wouldn't have been thrown into Azkaban.

Well, that's what I think :]

Interesting topic re: The Motorcycle!

Where it is now? - Obviously it's well hidden someplace, since no one has discovered it yet. It may be hidden deep within the Forbidden Forest, as some of you have pointed out already. That seems quite a likely hiding place.

How did he come upon the motorcycle? Being rich, Sirius could have anything he wanted. Somehow he found out about motorcycles and wanted to experience the thrill of riding one for himself and then really liked it and wanted to get one, so he did!

Why did he give the motorcycle to Hagrid? Interesting question, but I think he recognized a sense of adventure in Hagrid and felt he would enjoy the thrill and adventure of riding a motorcycle, as well.
