:SBFC: Why Sirius Ran From Home :SBFC:

In OotP, we learn that Sirius ran from home when he was sixteen. Sirius told Harry, "Because I hated the whole lot of them: my parents, with their pureblood mania, convinced that to be a Black made you pratically royal ... my idiot brother, soft enough to belive them ...".

But, is there a specific reason why Sirius left? Could he have gotten into a fight with a family member, had enough, and left forever? What do you think? Could there be more than to just hating his family?

I'm not so sure that Sirius ran away from home as much a he just never returned. I think Sirius just didn't want to listen to his family anymore and the potter were glad to have him. I'm sure Sirius was charming and polite at the Potters and then his uncle left him money so why go home.

I think that was probably the main reason. He just couldn't take any more of what he knew was wrong. If he had lived with it much longer, I think he would either gone mad or turned racist himself. The Potters would have been inspirational to him, and a much happier family.

I just realised, he wouldn't have fitted in with the family, and he might have been threatened by his father or someone to join the deatheaters or die. Sorry, I'm rambling on again, aren't I...

I believe that was just it. How would you live with your parents if they constantely reminded you that the family is better than anyone and they're all filth, including your friends, simply because they're not Irish for example. I wouldn't be able to stand it for too long. I think his parents idea that they were better was just enough to make him run to a more comfortable home, like the Potters, and stay there safely

It could be a certain member, but from what JKR has described, his whole family was pretty rotten.

I think that Sirius just left because he hated his family. I can easily see him and his mother having a row and he leaves because he's finally had enough. Or maybe Kreacher was being a bad House-Elf too him (Which Sirius kicked Kreacher around for, probably). There's tons of other reasons with a family like that!

I have to say that I believe Sirius left because he didn't want to be a part of something he did not believe in, only pureblood families. At this point, James and Sirius were best mates and best mates look out for one another. We all know that Sirius was a rebel and what a better way to state your "Rebelness" than by running away from home! I'm sure that Sirius and James had it all planned out as to what was going to happen and when.

There is only so much negativity one person can take and Sirius had enough. I believe that if he hadn't have left, he would have been depressed even more but....He is a true Gryffindor by far...bravery. It takes a lot of guts to walk away and leave everything behind.

He may have left because his parents were not only telling him that thier family was superior to others, but also maybe because they were really mean and hated him soo much, he couldnt stand to be hated anymore, and wanted to go somewhere where he was actually loved, which was the Potters.

I think Sirius was really tired of his family's prejudices against half bloods. He really didn't understand why they were so against people that were just like them, only their parents weren't wizards. So he felt more comfortable with staying with the Potters, because he knew he was always welcome there. Maybe he did get into a fight or conflict with his family. I definitely wouldn't be surprised. We shall never know unless Jo says something personally. I doubt it.

Sirius is a good guy ... We all know that! The thought of being so closely connected to such pure blood worshippers was just too much. Wouldn't it annoy you too? It sure would me! I find it hard enough having lived with my family for 23 years. But for Sirius to know that probably absolutely everything that happened in the family revolved around pure blood status!
Sirius stuck this attitude for such along time! ... 16 years is a long haul! He stuck it out ... Is there a chance he did find some part of his family life worth the time? We find as humans even if we have a deep pitted hatred for someone/s (including family) we do have a side thattells us we do like them in some form ... Even if it is a small feeling and for a moment ...

Sirius is a good guy, and I think that he left simply because he hated them, that's just it, why would someone stand to be around something they hate and don't belive in? He didn't chose to have a family like that, so he chose to become James' brother, just about, because he was more like them and believed in the good in the world like the Potters did.

But there's also the possibility that he didn't run away. He could have gotten kicked out by his parents for caushing "shame" on the Black family amongst the other death eaters and pureblood families, and therefore wanted to disown him. I realize there are no facts to support this, but it just seems like something his parents would tell him, being evil and all...

I think Sirius left home because he was pretty much forced out because of all the hatred that was shown towards him by the other members of his family. They hated the fact that he had been sorted into Gryffindor and had Gryffindor friends, they were openly contemptuous and nasty towards him and I'm sure he felt he was better off on his own. There was no hurt on either side, his family was glad he left!
