No problem! :-)

So, what's another film to discuss? Or should we go back to Immortal Beloved?

I had to rent Sid and Nancy the other day. It had been quite a while since I had seen it. I love that movie but it is just so sad. But Gary did an amazing job on that one with all the background research he did for the movie....amazing...I cannot quit saying that word!!!

But I could talk about Immortal Beloved all day long!!!

Okay, let's do that!

Immortal Beloved is a film that really moved me. Before I never really thought about Beethoven or classical music in general, but then I saw the film and it even made me cry. Gary's performance is really amazing and impressing (especially because he played some of the pieces on the piano himself) and the film changed how I think of music.

I have to say that I agree with you on that one. I took piano lessons for 11 years (my grandmother teaches piano) and I learned a lot of Beethoven classics (some are pretty hard like Moonlight Sonata) but I never knew anything about Beethoven until I saw that movie when it came out. I was amazed that Beethoven was deaf given the hard pieces he created with his work and I was also amazed at how Beethoven created his music (like sawing off the piano legs and setting it on the floor to feel the vibrations). These days, people are not as....what is the word....determined to accomplish something like that, they give up too easily and move on to something else.

Gary's performance in this movie was outstanding and it made me love Beethoven even more. I went out and bought more cd's (I already had Moonlight Sonata because it is just a fabulous piece of music) and it just sends me into a world that I have never been to before.

Also to watch Gary play Moonlight Sonata I was in such ahhhhh that I wish they had more of a closeup on his hands. Valera if you ever have the chance to see this movie, watch it by all means. It will touch a part of your soul....just wonderful. I might be taking it to the extreme but I am a person who loves music and I would rather listen to music than watch tv or a movie any day.

Also on my dvd that I have of this movie, they speak with the actors and actresses behind the scenes and the guy that plays Beethovens secretary, first off he was supposed to play Beethoven until they hired Gary for the part (thank you Gary) but he said that he was so moved in one part that he was actually crying in that scene from knowing the meaning behind that particular song.

Sorry I have wrote so much but this has got to be one of my favorite movies of all times.

Yeah, it was pretty much the same with me. I started playing the piano I think eight years ago and by now I play a lot of classics, of course including Beethoven, and pieces like the Moonlight Sonata are terribly difficult. That's why it amazes me even more that Gary played some of it himself. I read somewhere that he practiced five hours every day to be able to play.

There's this one scene in the film in which Beethoven explains what music is to Schindler (his secretary - and I think it's this scene which you talked about) and this is just so moving, because the acting is so intense. This scene actually made me cry when I first saw it and I still get teary every time.

I agree with you. Not only is it fascinating how he plays the piano, but his hands are always wonderful. Also in Prisoner of Azkaban, when he says good-bye to Harry and touches his chest where his heart is. I so wish I could be Harry in that one... *sigh*

Valera: You have to watch this film some day. Judging from how we talk about it you must know by now that it's absolutely outstanding.

I've got a question for the President of our Club: When will we know who the Co-Presidents and officers are? I saw that some of the other Clubs have already chosen theirs and I was just wondering ...

That is the exact scene that I am speaking of.

Of course you're not the only one I know a lot of people who adore his hands.

Besides Immortal Beloved, what are your favourite films with Gary? I love Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, The Fifth Element and Air Force One.

OK...you want to hear something crazy. I just found out that was him in Batman Begins. I had to buy the movie because...well...it's just awesome!! I always sat there and looked at the man thinking....he looks just like Gary Oldman....but I never looked at the credits. I even saw this movie at the theaters too. But of course we were looking at Christian more than anything else...lol.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - I have not seen this movie yet but I want too. He looks really good in that movie from pictures I have seen in the past.

Fifth Element - I have never watched this one either but one of my friends that I work with was talking about it a month ago and she said that I HAD to watch it. She said it was really good. Both of us have watched lots of movies so we talk about what the other needs to see all the time.

It's the same here. Getting Immortal Beloved was rather easy (through amazon) but it's nearly impossible to get films like Sid and Nancy or State of Grace. Where do you live?

I went to see the film at cinema just because Gary was in it. I think that he looked a little like Ned Flanders from the Simpsons in that one.

Okay - I have to add that I am extremely excited that Gary is going to be in the 5th film of HP!! I did not understand their reasoning behind casting after the movie began but I am just happy he is there. It would not be the same without Gary playing Sirius. I wonder if they are going to have him playing a younger Sirius. He could do it simply because he looks so young to me anyway and it would be rather nice to look at him handsome and young!! hehehehe

Hello!

Welcome to the Gary Oldman Fan Club! You're right - he is the greatest.

You'll know that you've been accepted when your name has been added in the first post. You can also go to your Control Panel and select Group Memberships. At the bottom of the page you'll see the Clubs you're already a member of. It may take a few days before you're accepted.

Stacey, if you still haven't been added I'd suggest sending a PM to our sponsor and ask what's going on.

The other day I watched Immortal Beloved and I was again overwhelmed by the perfectness of the film *sigh*

The next time you visit you'll have to tell me how you liked Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, okay?

For everyone interested:
at the website GO.info you can download an audio file from the film Dead Fish and which Gary sings! It's very enjoyable and I love it.

Oh my gosh!!! I have watched Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.....Gary is a total hot man in that movie....great, great, great hair and I must own....it was really good. I was laughing so hard at times...

Then I watched last night, The Scarlet Letter. He is hot in that one too but I will not say much more than that....I have to be good on here....

I knew that you'd like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead! It's currently one of my favourite movies and it's good to know that other love it too. My favourite scene is the wordmatch they have, coz it's just brilliant how they talk to each other.

Oh, don't talk about The Scarlet Letter. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen the film yet *hides away* but I'd really love to! Though I have read the book by Nathaniel Hawthorne and I must say that Arthur Dimmesdale is a really interesting character. And I've seen lots of pics from the film and Gary just looks .... If he acts as well as he looks than this film must be the best on earth!

I have not read the book but I have the book. It took me all this time to actually watch this movie and Gary looks totally hot in this movie and the way his character loves....awwww.....just heaven. I hate to say this but I think that I might have to own that movie along with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.....two very good movies....

Now I have the 5th element to watch....I am telling you I rented the movies yesterday because they are cheap....not a new movie that is

here are some more pictures that I found....

Yummy!!!

Here's my favourite pic from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead:

I don't wanna insert it here because it's actually quite large. Have a look and enjoy!

Yeah, I also love how he always looks in that film. His character is adorable - a bit stupid but very loveable.

Thanks for the avatar compliment! I found it in a wonderful Livejournal community, where they also have loads of icons from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. So if you're interested ...
