| | Guest | I would love to help, but I'm not going to be on very often anymore, since I kinda got banned from the computer. I'm really happy that people want to learn Romanian. It's a really easy language to learn, and it's very beautiful.
EDIT: I'll be back on SS, like fully back, somewhere in the middle of Febuary, because the first term at our school is almost over, and teachers are killing us with projects and test, and I must make First Class Honour Roll, or I'll be grounded for a reaaaally long time.

Oo thanks! But would it be too much to ask for a pronunciation key? I know other language accents, but I don't have the slightest clue about Romanian.

Um, I can't really do the 'pronunciation key' thingy...
well, you pronounce it kinda the same, but the 'a' in 'am' is read like... the 'a' in the word 'car'
and ă is read like 'er', but you don't hear the 'r', it's mute
sorry, I'm not from an english-speaking country, I'm originaly from Romania! |

| | Guest | I don't get the pronunciation key either, but I could always ask my mum for help 'coz she was an English teacher in Romania, so she knows this stuff.
OMG, I got a great idea, I'll record my voice for how to say it, and you can listen to it.
EDIT: When I find my STUPID MICROPHONE THAT I LOST. *DIES*

Yes we use the italian "ciao" quite often but the Romanian for "Hello" is "Salut" or "Bună". TrixiePixie do you speak spanish? Because the Romanian pronunciation is the same as in Spanish. And just like Cooly_s said : "ă" is pronunced like the "a" from the word "cat" and "a" is pronunced like the "a" from the word "car".
And is the pronunciation key the strange letters between the brakets, near every word from a dictionary? Or that thing is only in my Romanian-English dictionary?

Yeah, that's the pronunciation key. Quote:

If the Romanian "Salut" is the same as the French "Salut" then I know how to pronounce it. |

In French when you say "Salut" you don't pronunce "t" and (this is kinda hard to explain...) "ut" from the word "Salut" is pronunced like the word "you" from in English. But in Romanian you pronunce all the letters . I hope you understand what I'm trying to say..."Salut" in Romanian is pronunced more like in Italian.
And "I love you" in Romanian is "Te iubesc"

Ok I've found on a site how to write the pronunciation key and I'll try writing it .
So...for "Salut" it should be something like this [ säl t] (the accent is on the letter "u") and for "Bună" is something like this [b n ], the accent is again on "u". I hope you understand.....In my dictionary everything is different, I would write you in my way but I can't find a good font for this!
Or...If you want it without the strange symbols it will be like this:
1 "Salut" - "Sah-loot"
2 "Bună" - "Boo-na"

Oh...I forgot "te iubesc" would be something like this "teh-you-behsc"
I really hope you understand what I'm trying to say...

Yes, yes, I understand. Thank the lord I learned how to read pronunciation keys when I was younger, lol.
Thanks so much for helping me out with my translations.
In addition to that, how do you say "Thank you" and "You're welcome"?
