( Unless I decided to include myself in the books, then, canon would be Me/Draco and Hermione could have Ron ) What’s that you say?!?! THEY ARE?!? I DO?!?! Oh hey! April’s fool’s day is over… and that’s not very nice… we all know JKR still has Harry and the rest of the characters locked up in her basement…

A/N: So… this is a new fic of mine… its actually the first one I wrote a looooong time ago, so it gets kind of cliché. It's also a Dramione, taking place over the summer after their fifth year. It goes AU from there. It's actually the first of a trilogy I'm planning, though it isn't even completely thought out yet. Please, if you like it, if you hate it, tell me what you think! STARTING OVER

Introduction

As the sun peered into a bedroom window, it cast its light and warmth upon an exquisitely carved wooden desk where stacks of books, quills, and rolls of parchment lay. A matching dresser resided in the shadowed corner, its beautiful door of purple heart wood kept the possessions of the girl still lying asleep under the violet covers of her queen sized bed, which held the attention of the whole room. As time crept by, feet fell upon the comfort of the pale white rug by the bed and a shadow appeared on the lavender walls. As gentle hands thrust open the soft, white curtains, leaving only a thin veil of purple to separate the room from the sun’s gaze, light filled the room, followed by a soft gasp from the bed.

Responding to a light tapping sound on her bedroom door, a teenage girl twisted in her bed and reluctantly allowed her eyes to flutter open. As she did, her eyes were temporarily blinded by the morning light, and her ears strained to hear what her mother was saying. Confused, she mumbled, “What was that?”

Her door cracked open and revealed her mother’s face.

“Dear, you’ll need to get up soon. Don’t you remember? You and Emily made plans today…”

With that Hermione jumped out of bed with a panicked look on her face.

Chapter 1

I couldn’t believe I had forgotten about Em! We meet up every summer when I get back from school, come on Hermione! I ran to the bathroom to take a quick shower and brush my teeth. Hurrying back into my room with a towel wrapped around my body, I gathered some clothes and slipped into them. I stopped at the desk and mirror next to my dresser to fix my hair and applied some make-up. I usually didn’t do this at Hogwarts, but now I was home, it was summer, and I was going to hang out with my Muggle friends. As I studied my reflection in the mirror, I chuckled, thinking of what any of my Hogwarts friends would think if they saw me like this. I definitely did not look like the Hermione Granger they knew. I grabbed my bag and hid my wand in a desk drawer, just in case we decided to come back to my place later.

I entered the kitchen to find mom sitting at the table with her tea and cereal in front of her. Dad was still in bed asleep of course, since it was Saturday and he had the day off work. I glanced at the clock above the oven, 8:45. I had fifteen minutes to get to the park where Em and I had planned to meet along with a few of her other friends. I gave mom a kiss on the cheek and told her I was going and would call if we’d be out any later than 7 o’clock.

The park wasn’t that far from my house and it was within my view in no time at all. I scanned the area to find some little children at the playground, some ladies playing tennis, and a couple of guys playing some one-on-one basketball. A frown found its way onto my face. But it was quickly replaced by a grin when I saw another figure sitting on the lawn in the shade of a big oak tree while laughing at the boys on the court. Thinking to myself that these must be the other two people I would be spending most of the next two months with, I studied them closely. The two boys looked relatively alike. Both seemed athletic and strong, standing around five found eleven with rather long hair and fair skin. Only one had hazel brown hair while the other’s was so blond it seemed almost white. Their baggy shorts and wife beaters showed off much of their skin, all of it shining of sweat. It was obvious they both were extremely good-looking. A part of me blushed at the thought.

Encased in my thoughts, I hadn’t noticed someone sneaked up and grab me from behind.

I gasped while turning around to see the familiar face of Emily laughing. I joined her and we hugged each other, happy that summer had arrived and we could hang out again.

We separated and took a good look at each other.

“Looking good!” we chanted simultaneously, giggling again.

We continued chatting idly while walking back to the basketball court, where the two boys were still playing, unaware of anything around them until Em ran and stole the ball while I started heartily laughing again. Somehow the ball ended up rolling towards the tennis courts, so the boy with the white blond hair went chasing after it.

Em, now smiling from ear to ear, grabbed me and pulled me closer to the court to introduce me to the brown-haired kid still standing there.

“Hermione, this is Eric,” Emily stated, using gestures like she always does when she talks. “Eric, Hermione, but I usually call her Mia,” she giggled, “don’t ask.”

“Hey Mia,” Eric smiled playfully, holding out his hand. I shook it, laughed, and replied, “Hey. Nice to meet you.”

“Oh yeah, and that over there,” Em pointed to the white-blond boy. For some reason, he stood motionless, with the basketball in his hands, just staring at us. Actually, it looked like he was staring at me. I shifted nervously with this knowledge, though I didn’t know why…

“… is Draco.”

A/N: Thank you for all your reviews! I’m pleasantly surprised that people like this fic. As to your questions about Draco hanging with muggles... all will be answered with due time!!! (btw, tinajayne, remember, lucius is currently in azkaban...

) (oh, and triwizardchampion... the mia thing is something just to from hermione's past muggle life that she continues to live with during the summer. and as to why she didn't recognize him before... he was further away, she wasnt exactly prepared or expecting to see him of all people, and she has never seen him in muggle clothing!)
So, here’s the next chappie. In Draco’s POV. Just to let you know, the chapters end based on POV switches. So every other chapter the person narrating changes? Is that too confusing? Wel, anyways, this is Draco. Hope you like and hope you review whether you do or not! Oh, and thanks so much to animequeen48 for betaing for me!!!!!!!!!!

Chapter 2

When I started coming back with the basketball I saw another girl talking with Eric and Emily. That must be Emily’s friend that we were supposed to meet today. Supposedly the four of us would hang out all summer. I looked at her again as the wind swept through her chestnut brown hair. Somehow I recognized her…

My dream.

That must be where I recognized her from. The only two things I remembered from the dream I had had last night was lots of purple and a beautiful girl with chestnut brown hair. Yes that must be it, for she looked very beautiful.

But then I heard laughter. Her laughter. And I knew it. I recognized it. Not from any dream either

It was Granger.

Oh no. she saw me staring. As her eyes filled with shock and her mouth fell slightly open, I knew she had recognized me too.

What was that mudblood know-it-all doing here? Am I really supposed to pretend that I don’t know her and spend my whole summer with her as company just so we wouldn’t let Eric and Emily know we were wizards? Well, I guess Granger is a witch… but, whatever.

I knew the answer to that question – of course we were. Our acting civilly together didn’t matter when the secrets of the entire wizarding world. So I erased the surprise in my expression and continued back to the court, shooting a look art Granger that said, “Stop gawking Mudblood! Pretend you don’t know me!”

Luckily the other didn’t notice the looks of surprise, recognition, and pure hatred on our faces.

When I reached them, Eric teased, “What took so long Draco? You missed introductions. This is Hermione, But Em here calls her Mia.”

I raised my eyebrows at the mention of Granger’s nickname ‘Mia’ but then held out my hand, daring her to not touch it. “Mia, heh?” I asked with a smirk.

“Yeah,”she replied, slightly blushing. Then, noticing my outstretched hand, awkwardly shook it. I stood staring at her while she seemed preoccupied with her hands. I couldn’t believe this was Granger I was looking at. I mean, the one I knew from six years at Hogwarts was pretty and all ( Merlin stop me I know, but, I won’t lie - Malfoys never lie. Well, not to themselves. Well, most of the time. ), but the girl standing in front of me was absolutely stunning. Her hair wasn’t bushy or frizzy. Her clothes flattered her figure, something I had never really noticed before, partly because of the loose robes she always wore. Yet even then, I had been too busy hating her to even look at her. Now that I did, my breath was taken away. Wait, this is still Granger I’m talking about, isn’t it? Well, yeah, but it is summer now… and it’s not like there’s anybody from school to spot us together…

Woah. Who said we were together? My head was going way too far for its own good.

Chapter 3

I couldn’t believe Draco Malfoy was standing in front of me. This was suppose to be summer, a time for a break away from him and everyone and everything else at school. And I had to spend it with Malfoy? How did he know Em anyway? Oh, yeah, Eric. Wait, Malfoy hangs out with Muggles? That’s surprising.

I looked up to make sure I hadn’t imagined his face. No, unfortunately not. But, why is he staring at me?

My mind still reeling with questions, I hadn’t heard what Em and Eric had been talking about. But suddenly they were asking, “How’s that sound?”

I had no clue what they meant, but didn’t want to admit it.

“Fine with me,” I offered, not knowing what I was agreeing to.

Em smiled again. “Good. Then let’s get going!” she turned to walk down the path out of the park side-by-side with Eric, leaving me confused with an equally confused Malfoy by me.

“So…” I started nervously, not daring to even look into his eyes again.

“Why don’t we catch up?” he suggested. I was glad to have a reason to do something other than stare at my fingers and started walking down the same path, Malfoy at my side.

Both of us went silently. Though I still couldn’t shake that tingling feeling I had felt when we shook hands. Funny, after six years I had touched the ferret only once, and that was to punch that smug face of his that was now framed rather nicely by his blonde hair…

Woah, girl. That’s quite enough.

Okay, so I releaize that I haven't posted in FOREVER, but I'm gonna try and get better at it, okie dokes? Just, gotta get through the rest of May and June. Ugh...
Anyways, the number one reason why I haven't posted in so long is that I never heard back from my beta and I wanted to wait for her. But... after three weeks of silence I just got another beta to do this story until she gets back to me! soooo, thanks to lightblue-Nymphadora for betaing this for me!!

Chapter 4

Seeing as neither I nor Granger had paid any attention to the conversation about where we were going, we let Emily and Eric guide us around the town. The day was spent walking the streets, occasionally going into a store or stopping at a window. Neither Granger nor I knew exactly what to do around each other. Rather quickly, we discovered an easy solution – we just didn’t talk to each other. Emily and Eric probably noticed this, as they kept giving us strange glances and urging us to talk to one another.

For lunch, we ended up inside a small café downtown. It was a nice place, and we had arrived relatively early in the afternoon, so it wasn’t too busy. The conversation stayed light, though Granger and I still practiced our method of simply ignoring each other.

Except, we weren’t exactly ignoring each other. Somehow I couldn’t resist sneaking looks at the girl who seemed so different than the Hermione Granger I knew from school. She was so happy and care-free, and beautiful. Not just her physical appearance, but the way she carried herself, how she acted. It was different than anything I’d ever seen in her before.

Lunch was enjoyed over friendly conversation, and I learned a little more about the life my classmate had away from school. She seemed to play by a different set of rules, where having fun and being foolish and silly was not on the list of sins. It was amazing to see the differences.

After lunch Granger and I found ourselves headed towards the cinema. Evidently Eric and Emily had planned out our entire day in the few minutes neither one of us had been paying attention. The movie was good, though my mind wasn’t exactly focused on the characters on the screen as much as centering on the girl three seats down.

Afterwards, Eric and Emily led us in conversation revolving around the plotlines and exciting action and exhilarating twists of the film over to the ice cream parlor downtown.

All this time, thoughts were streaming through my head at full blast.

By the time we entered an ice cream parlor, I had made up my mind. Simply put, I was attracted to this new ‘Mia’ and already had to pretend I had no clue who she was. So why shouldn’t I show my interest in her? A smirk inched across my face. I know Granger would be surprised and maybe even offended but wouldn’t be able to show it. She would be forced to accept it.

Oh, this was going to be good. She’ll never be able to look at me the same at Hogwarts again. Oh, it would be fun…

Emily and Eric led us to the corner table and both slid into the booth against the wall, leaving Granger and I the remaining booth, together. Perfect. I gestured for her to slip in first and then sat down, accidentally laying my hand on her left thigh. I laughed softly to myself as shivers ran down her body.

But a second later, when her hand suddenly came in contact with my own, it was my turn to shiver. Her skin was warm, soft, and so gentle. Unexpectedly, I felt a desire for her to never leave my side. In fact, I wanted more than to simply touch her hand; I was overpowered with a longing to encase her face in my hands and kiss her… I turned to look into her eyes, Merlin, were they amazing, simply sensational, a place where I could spend eternity in and never regret a single moment.

Dang it! I was doing it again! Why, oh, why was I thinking this way? Draco Malfoy does not go ga-ga over any girl like this (much less Granger!) after simply holding her hand!

Get a grip! Wait, I already had one…

Oblivious to myself, I had held on to Granger’s hand, though now she was trying to shake me off.

Yet her eyes betrayed her and looked nervously into mine while she teased, “Why Draco! Trying to hold my hand already? I’ve barely even met you!”

Eric and Emily burst out laughing while I felt color rising into my pale face. Pushing my embarrassment aside, I let go of her hand, but leaned over, whispering in her ear, “What can I say? There’s something about you I find simply… enchanting, Mia.”

Somehow, it felt better to call her Mia instead of Hermione or Granger; it made me feel like she was a different person, and that this was separate from school so our past relationship didn’t matter. Deep inside me, it really didn’t.

Not anymore.
