“She should be getting back here; all the prefects have come back already,” I said gruffly to Harry. He stared at me and didn’t say anything. The door to the compartment opened and Hermione walked in looking as though she was still angry.

“What kept you?” I asked, knowing I sounded like a blundering idiot.

“What are you talking about?” she snapped at me.

“Well,” I said, “All the other prefects were released a few minutes ago.”

Her face turned red with anger. “I hung back to talk to Draco; you know, our FRIEND Draco?” I stared at her angrily.

“Well of course you’d hang back to talk to him. You’d prefer talking to him over me any day, right Hermione?”

Apparently, she had had enough. “Right now, Ron, with the way you’re acting, I’d prefer talking to Millicent Bullstrode over you!” With that, she stormed angrily out of the compartment. I didn’t know where she was headed, but I wasn’t about to chase after her. Harry and Ginny gave me angry looks but stayed quiet.

I couldn’t believe Ron’s nerve; after I had forced myself to come back to sit with him, he acted like that. As I stormed out of the compartment, I wondered where I was going to go now. Draco would surely be back with all the Slytherins by now. I found a compartment by myself and sat down. I supposed I would spend the remainder of the trip in this lonely room.

The compartment door slid open and I was pleased to see Harry and Ginny walk in and sit down.

“Hi,” I said quietly to them. “Why aren’t you back with Ronald?”

“He’s being a right git,” Ginny said, scowling as though Ron was sitting just there. Harry nodded and agreed.

“You really didn’t have to come in here with me,” I said.

Harry said, “Yeah, anything was better than sitting back there. He’s just muttering to himself about how you and Draco supposedly have something going on. He’s acting insane!”

I nodded. “He really is,” I said sadly.

We spent the remainder of the trip eating sweets off the trolley and talking happily. When the train finally slowed down, we saw Hogsmeade village in the darkness. I was happier than ever to be home, to be at Hogwarts. It did sadden me to know that this would be the last time that the train would be stopping in Hogsmeade for me.

“Well,” I began, taking a deep breath, “Are you guys ready? This is our last time.”

Everyone walked into Hogwarts slowly; they were all reluctant in believing that this was their last year here. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny all walked in together as Draco walked in, as usual, with his Slytherin friends, Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy Parkinson.

Hermione glanced over and felt sorry for Draco; she knew he would rather be over with them, celebrating and having a good time like she and he had done during the summer. She did know, however, that this wasn’t possible. Draco had secrets that had to stay secret or else everyone would be in a huge amount of danger.

As they all filed into the Great Hall and took their seats at their respective house tables, the usual low rumble of chatter took place. Everyone was catching up on how their summers had all been; most of the school was just getting a chance to reflect on Harry’s wild birthday bash. Left and right, the golden trio heard stupendous reviews of the party and were glad that they had pulled off such a big event.

Finally, Dumbledore stood up to make his speech. Immediately, the whole hall fell silent and all eyes were turned in Dumbledore’s direction; it still amazed Harry after seven years that Dumbledore could do that to a crowd.

“Welcome back,” Dumbledore began in his energetic voice, his blue eyes sparkling as they always did behind his half-moon spectacles. His white beard looked even whiter, if that was possible, but the man behind the beard looked the same as ever. He continued on with his speech, welcoming everyone back and reminding them of out-of-bounds areas after the first years had been sorted. Hermione blushed a brilliant pink when Dumbledore announced that she had been made Head Girl and Draco Head Boy. Ron flushed a brilliant pink as well, but Harry had a feeling it had nothing to do with embarrassment.

Finally, the feast began and the food was just as marvelous as ever. Everyone had a fantastic time at dinner. Harry leaned over and gave Ginny kisses on the cheek, much to Ron’s displeasure. He and Hermione were sitting next to each other, but they were obviously still mad. Hermione would ask Harry to pass things to her that were right next to Ron, and every time Hermione spoke, Ron would suddenly find something to distract him completely.

When the feast was finished, Dumbledore instructed them all to get to bed and for the prefects and Head Boy and Girl to make sure to lead all the students to their dormitories. Hermione took charge right away, causing a brilliant memory of Percy to shine in everyone’s heads.

“First years, this way!” she shouted, above the loud chatter of the hall. “First years, follow me!” She got a nice sized group of them and led them ahead of everyone else up the marble stairs. Harry and Ron were left behind with Ginny.

“Can you believe her?” Ron asked Harry.

Harry, not wanting to interfere or make either of his friends mad simply stood silently.

“I mean,” Ron continued, as though Harry had plainly agreed, “If it were Ginny, you’d expect her to get a new common room, wouldn’t you?” He looked to Harry for assurance, but didn’t find it there.

“Erm, well, it’s sort of a tradition Ron,” Harry said truthfully. “If Hermione says nothing is going on with her and Malfoy, maybe you should believe her.” Though Harry didn’t much like calling Draco by Malfoy anymore, he thought, in the presence of Ron, it might be wise.

Ron’s eyes widened automatically; “You’re taking her side on this, are you?” he brooded.

Harry shook his head, his worst fears confirmed. “No, Ron, but I’m trying to say that you can’t really be mad at her. It’s not her fault that they have to share a common room, after all,” he said in an almost pleading voice.

Ron was bright red by now, “Yeah, Ginny tried to say that too, but Hermione went on saying that ‘Draco’ would surely do a great job. Sod off,” he said, pushing Harry out of the way. He stormed off down the corridor quite alone, leaving Harry and Ginny by themselves. Harry looked over at Ginny.

“Quite a first night back, eh?” he asked her.

I was just making the point that Ron isn't flawless.
He gets very hot-headed & jealous.
He & Hermione are known to get in fights & leave Harry in the middle of them.
It happens throughout the series. Jo clearly shows that Ron isn't perfect.
We all STILL LOVE HIM, but he isn't flawless in HP & he's not flawless now.

I found it kind of odd walking away from Harry (Ron was long since gone) as he walked to the Gryffindor Common Room on the seventh floor. My common room was the next floor up, and I headed up there very much alone.

As I reached the portrait hole, which was a small hag with a horrible face, I said the password lightly, wondering what the Common Room and dormitory would look like. The hag cackled horridly and let me in. I timidly stepped inside to see Draco arrogantly lounging on the couch.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Granger,” Draco said playfully.

I grinned at him, “Sod off Malfoy,” I said in a dramatic tone. We laughed and I sat down with him, looking around. “It’s a very nice Common Room,” I said approvingly. I looked around; instead of the scarlet that covered the Gryffindor Common Room, there were all four house colors. The room was bathed luxuriously in new furniture, and portraits of past head boys and girls were on the walls. I looked around and my eyes froze on two portraits right next to each other.

“That’s….” I trailed off.

Draco frowned, seeing who I was looking at. “Yeah,” he said awkwardly.

“I’ll have to bring him in here so he can see,” I said, trying to smile.

Indeed, I was staring up at the bright, shining faces of Lily and James Potter in their seventh year at Hogwarts. My eyes shone with tears, I knew, but I couldn’t help it. Harry never knowing his parents was the biggest tragedy to me. I loved my parents and I wasn’t sure what I’d ever do without them.

Draco cleared his throat. “I haven’t gone up yet to look at my dormitory. I was trying to wait for you,” he said. This actually made me smile.

“Why did you want to wait for me?” I said, eyebrows raised.

He smiled at me, “Because I thought you might want a chance to be envious when you see that I have the better dormitory."

I laughed a high, false laugh. “Sure, sure, Malfoy,” I said, once again using his last name instead of his first which I knew would drive him insane.

“Whatever,” he said gruffly, “Let’s go upstairs and have a look, shall we?” I nodded and we proceeded up the stairs. The first door we reached was marked “Head Boy.” Draco took a deep breath and opened the door.

Once inside, I gasped. It was a beautiful bedroom. Draco’s trunk and things from home had already been brought up. The room had a wonderful king sized bed that was decorated in Slytherin bed sheets and comforter, since Draco was obviously a Slytherin. There was a full sized couch in here, as well as a broom cupboard and walk in closet. As I peered around the room, I noticed a large bathroom was attached as well. I walked in to see a large, Jacuzzi like tub and a noticeably large shower as well.

“What do you think?” Draco said, looking around and taking it all in.

“Hmm,” I said, as though really considering the question. I looked over at him and smiled, “It’s brilliant!” I exclaimed.

“I thought so,” he said smugly, which caused me to playfully punch him in the arm. We stood only for a moment longer. I was too eager to go see my room.

“Let’s go, then!” I said enthusiastically. He sighed and agreed, obviously not wanting to leave his wonderful room. We did, however, and we headed up a short flight of stairs. This door was labeled “Head Girl” and I took a deep breath before going in.

The room was much more girly, but not in a pink frilly way. The furniture was just positioned in a more feminine way. The comforter on my bed was, thankfully, red and gold and had the Gryffindor lion embellished on it. My bathroom had all sorts of scented soaps in it; everything from cotton candy to butterbeer could be found in the assorted collection. I also had all kinds of hair care products to choose from. I had a large desk in my room, something that would surely come in handy with all the work I had to do. I glanced around and nearly fainted. I had somewhat of a mini-library in a closet in my room. I shrieked, “Dumbledore knows me too well!” Draco laughed at me, but I didn’t care. That was the best prize of all.

Draco eventually dragged me away from the library and back down to the Common Room. I was very reluctant to leave my books, but he convinced me that they’d still be there when I came back. So, we went down to the Common Room and sat down, still gazing around. Charlie and Percy were smiling down at me from the wall. I pointed this out to Draco and that obviously reminded him of what he wanted to talk about.

“Speaking of the Weasleys,” he said in his old, arrogant tone, “What was going on with you and Ron? He didn’t even tell you goodnight!” he finished as though this were a scandal.

I stared at him and blinked, trying to think of something to say to defend Ron. “He’s just being jealous….” I said hopelessly.

“Jealous of what?!” Draco exclaimed, obviously annoyed.

“I really don’t know,” I admitted. I stared at Draco and looked down at my feet, ashamed of Ron because of the way he was reacting. I knew Ron was acting stupid, but I couldn’t just leave him; he meant too much to me to do that.

“I could give him a reason to be jealous,” Draco said quietly, “But I’m a good guy and I don’t.”

I stared at Draco, wondering how I was supposed to interpret that. After all, one could have seen it many ways.
