Ron sighed deeply; he didn’t know what he was supposed to say. He really didn’t think he wanted his sister running off with his best friend just yet. It just seemed weird to Ron that Harry and Ginny could feel so strongly about each other. Then again, Hermione’s voice rang in his head, who was he to stop people who care about each other from being together? He had such a hard decision on his hands. Harry was so worthy of Ginny; Ginny had always secretly wanted to be with Harry. It seemed like everything was falling in place, but Ron just felt like something was missing from the puzzle. He looked Harry in his eyes, those emerald green eyes, and said, “Mate, I really don’t know if this is the right thing to do but…please just be careful with my sister’s heart; please?” he begged.

Harry’s face lit up immediately. He ran and crushed Ron in a huge hug. Ron looked awestruck and Harry looked embarrassed. “Sorry, I was just excited,” he explained.

Ron laughed, “Harry, what are you waiting for? You’ve been waiting for this all summer! Go!” Harry nodded and ran down the flights of stairs looking for Ginny in the massive maze that was the Burrow.

He saw her, again out in the garden, but she was accompanied by Mrs. Weasley. He wanted her on her own. He walked outside and politely asked, “Mrs. Weasley can I borrow Ginny for a while?” He smiled at the plump woman and she smiled back.

“Sorry, Harry, but can you wait just a spell? Ginny and I are almost done here.”

Harry smiled, “Of course,” he said politely, though he felt like disregarding that comment and taking Ginny with him anyways. However, he walked calmly back into the Burrow leaving Ginny flabbergasted.

Once inside, he sat down and rubbed his head lightly. He felt a headache coming on. He had finally gotten what he wanted: Ron’s blessing. He couldn’t wait to give Ginny the news and to finally ask her to be his girlfriend. He was nervous for some odd reason. Indeed, he was; he felt his palms and they were sweaty.

He began to doze off on the couch in the living room. He didn’t realize he was doing so, but pretty soon, he was dead asleep. He didn’t even notice Ginny walking in and looking at him sleeping. She didn’t want to wake him; he looked very peaceful, as though nothing in the world could possibly bother him, when, in reality, everything in the world was bothering him and crashing down on his shoulders alone.

She sat down next to him and grabbed a pillow. Leaving some space between them so maybe Ron wouldn’t freak out, she leaned against the arm of the couch, put her pillow behind her head and dozed of as well, right next to Harry. Before she fell asleep, all she could think of was, “I wonder what he has to tell me.”

I awoke groggily to find Ginny sprawled out on the couch with me. I was in an odd sitting position that had caused my neck to hurt greatly and she was lying down comfortably on a pillow. I didn’t really want to wake her, but then I remembered the great news I had to tell her and I couldn’t help myself.

“Gin,” I said softly. “Gin, wake up.” I shook her a little bit, just enough to see her beautiful eyes slowly open and to see her mouth curl into a smile when she saw who it was waking her up.

“Hey Harry,” she said sleepily. “I fell asleep waiting for you to wake up.”

I laughed. “Well, I need to ask you a question….”

Ginny suddenly looked very interested. “Oh yes! I had forgotten. What was it you needed to tell me Harry?”

I smiled. “Ginny, I want you to be my girlfriend, please? Ron has finally given me permission. I want to be with you so bad; I don’t think I could stand another second of being without you.”

As I looked at Ginny, her face was lit up with a smile. I hugged her tightly and said, “So, what do you say?”

She looked at me and said, “Harry, that’s just about the stupidest question I have ever heard; I have been waiting to say yes since I was ten.”

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Draco’s POV <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

So, I came to find out, it was official: Harry and Ginny were finally together. I tried to keep out of the way at the Burrow; I tried to eat as little as possible and cause as little commotion as I could until one day in mid-August, Granger, I mean, Hermione came up to the room I was staying in to talk to me.

I heard a knock at the door and I was surprised. “Come in,” I said confusedly.

As Hermione walked in, I was slowly becoming even more confused. “Hello, Draco,” she said pleasantly.

“Um, hello,” I said, trying my best not to sound rude.

“Look,” she began. She was obviously there to talk to me about something that had been bothering her, which was odd. “We feel bad that you stay stuffed up here all the time. You really don’t have to. When we get back to Hogwarts, you can go back to hating us if you really want to, but in the meantime, you’re welcome to come play some Quidditch with Harry, Ron, and Ginny or you’re welcome to do some summer work with me, if any of that interests you. If anything else, you can just come sit and hang out with us. We won’t bite you; well, usually anyways.”

I really didn’t know what to say. After all these years of hostility, they were being nice to me because they knew I had no one left. They really were Gryffindors. I know I couldn’t have done it.

“Thanks, Hermione,” I said politely. “I just feel really awkward. I know we’re not going to be able to be friends when we get back to school, and that really makes me feel bad, so I don’t know if it’s right to hang out with you guys.” I was being honest with her; I assumed that’s what she wanted.

She sat there for a minute and then slowly nodded her head sadly. “I thought you might say that. We just feel really bad that you’re up here alone with no one.”

She stared me in the face and I stared back. I had an odd feeling as though I wanted to give her a long warm hug. I wanted to disregard her blood-status and be best friends with this girl. She was kind, she was giving….

But she was a Mudblood and I was a Malfoy. It just wasn’t meant to happen that way. If it was, I wouldn’t have spent all the years I had being mean to her.

But then again, something had obviously changed about me; here I was at Ron Weasley’s house rebelling against my parents, defying the most evil wizard in the world, probably just sitting and awaiting my death, and still this girl was reaching out a welcome hand to me….

“What the hell…” I thought to myself. I got up and gave her a hug because I knew that things were going to change in my life. For the better or the worse, I did not know; I only knew that things were going to change and that was something I had been wanting for a long time.

Time marched on, and before anyone could object, it was almost time for school to start. Naturally they had all gotten their Hogwarts letters at the end of July, but with Harry’s birthday and Draco coming, they had completely procrastinated going to Diagon Alley. So one day, about a week before term started, they all thought they had better go, and all the preparations were complete.

They had had to prepare some Polyjuice Potion over the last few weeks; that was one reason that they had put off going to Diagon Alley. Draco wanted to go of course; he hadn’t been out of the house in ages.

The morning of August 20th, Draco found himself drinking an awful tasting potion of a Muggle boy of about the age of fourteen. He was a redhead, and was to be disguised as a cousin Todd. Once he was nicely transformed and Mrs. Weasley had four more bottles of Polyjuice for him to take while they were there, they were off into Diagon Alley.

As they used the Floo Network, Harry vaguely remembered his first time doing it. He had messed up and not said his destination clearly. He had ended up in a shop in Knockturn Alley and had seen Draco and his father lurking about. It seemed to be a vague memory now….

They got into Diagon Alley and Harry immediately took Ginny’s hand and told Mrs. Weasley that he was going to borrow Ginny for a bit. He wanted to go to Florean Fortescue’s and buy some ice cream. They hadn’t had a proper date, after all. Mrs. Weasley agreed and added that they should go and buy their spell books. She gave Ginny some money and her list and handed Harry his list as well. Draco ended up going with Ron and Hermione. He and Hermione seemed to be good friends now.

Harry and Ginny walked up to the ice cream shop and sat down. Mr. Fortescue showed up nearly immediately. They ordered what they wanted and sat down and waited. Ginny was smiling and looking around when suddenly her face dropped into a frown. This didn’t go unnoticed by Harry.

“What’s wrong, Gin?” he asked, grabbing her hand from across the table. He rubbed her palm slightly with his thumb while he talked to her.

“Well, this is kind of dangerous, isn’t it?” she asked him. He was befuddled.

“What’s dangerous?” he asked.

She sighed. “Us being here in the middle of Diagon Alley together? We don’t have any form of security or anything….” She trailed off, leaving her thought incomplete.

Harry smiled at her. “Gin, we can go into public together. There is protection over me and everyone involved with me that Dumbledore has done that no one could understand. He has really protected us Ginny. Besides, there are spies for Dumbledore everyday here in Diagon Alley. They are guaranteed to be watching us right now, making sure we’re okay.” She looked relieved.

“Good, because I want to be able to have a good time with you, Harry. I enjoy being with you, you know.”

Harry smiled, “I know Gin.”
