Hey guys, this is a short post but... you'll see why;

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Ginny’s POV <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

I felt so embarrassed. Here I was, finally alone with Harry. I felt so overwhelmed with want and need that I couldn’t help it: my eyes were full of tears.

I heard him say, in a faraway place, “Ginny, what’s wrong? Did I do something wrong? I’m sorry…”

I laughed through my tears, “Harry…you have done nothing wrong…happy birthday.”

He looked so unconvinced, so worried…he loved me…he loved Ron too though, and he would never just betray him like that. “Harry, I think it’s great that you don’t want to get too close to me because of Ron, but I don’t think I can do this…I can’t just be a play-thing. I can’t just be used for a good time…”

His face looked crushed. “Ginny, I would never use you.” I knew he meant it. “I talked to Ron today. He just wants me to get to know you better as friends before I ask you out…I want to be with you too, but we just have to wait a while, okay? I care about him, Gin, he’s my best friend.”

“I know….wait! Did you just say that we’re going to be able to…be together? Eventually, I mean; oh my gosh!” My day had officially been made. Then suddenly, I saw two people walking in a quick pace across the yard towards Harry and me.



<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Regular POV <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

Ron and Hermione were making their way across the yard in a hurried pace towards the two figures they knew to be Harry and Ginny’s. By the time they reached them, they were slightly exasperated and out of breath.

“What’s wrong?” Ginny said in a worried tone.

“Harry, don’t freak out okay…?” Hermione said in an almost pleading voice. Harry’s eyebrows rose instantly.

“Freak out about what, Hermione?” he said, almost casually.

“Someone is upstairs in Ron’s bedroom and he wants to speak to you. He says he has run away…he doesn’t know where else to go…” Hermione looked downright helpless in the state she was in. In the distance, they could all hear the Weird Sisters still blaring.

“Who is it Hermione?” Harry asked, practically whispering.

Hermione said the name. Harry’s eyes shot wide open and he ran into the house, through the blasting music, and up the stairs.

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Harry’s POV <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

At this point, all that was running through my mind was, “How dare that little bugger try and crash my seventeenth birthday party!” I couldn’t fathom any other reason that he would be standing in Ron Weasley’s bedroom. My mind filled with fury as I climbed one flight of stairs, two flights of stairs, three flights of stairs, on and on, until I found myself at the top of the mountain that was the Burrow, and I thrust open the bedroom door.

“Malfoy, what on earth do you think you’re doing here?” I bellowed at a blonde haired, grown man, who I had despised since my first year. His back was to me, and he slowly turned around. My mouth gaped open as I saw various cuts and bruises across his face.

“I had to run. I couldn’t work for him anymore. After he tried to get me to kill Dumbledore and I didn’t do it…Snape was the backup…He was supposed to kill Dumbledore and he couldn’t…Well Snape at least had seniority…Me; I’m a dead man if he finds me.”

“And the cuts…?” I questioned.

“My father; he knew I was trying to run. He beat me senseless. When I woke up after he knocked me out, I just jumped in the fire and Floo’ed here. You three were the only ones I could think of…no clue why…” the Malfoys’ only son stammered.

“Malfoy…Er, I mean, Draco…why on earth would you come here?” I said, trying to be considerate of his condition. “Wow, I just called Malfoy by his actual name. I’m beginning to disgust myself with my sympathetic personality.” I thought inside my own head.

“I really don’t know. You three are Gryffindors. You’re supposed to be courageous and forgiving. I just didn’t know where else to go, Potter…er, I mean Harry.” Malfoy said. He, too, looked as though he was in disbelief that he had to call me by my name.

I was at a loss as to what to say. So, I said the most polite, sensible question that I could think of, “So what do you plan to do, then?”

He, too, looked like he was at a loss for words. He seemed to be seriously contemplating the question. “Look,” he began, “I can’t be there anymore. I can’t work for, well, You-Know-Who anymore. My heart isn’t in it like the rest of the Death Eaters. If I can’t stay here, I understand; after all, we’re enemies. But I can’t go back there…I will have to run.”

Harry looked at him straight in the eyes. He opened his mouth and began to speak….

“Malfoy,” Harry hesitated, “It’s not up to me. This isn’t my house. But, I have to admit, being here would be one of your safest bets. First of all, this house is protected like nobody’s business. Second of all, no one would expect you here…of all places….Still, it’s not my decision. You would have to take it up with Ron and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley.”

Draco Malfoy contemplated what Harry had said. Just then, Ron came in and gaped, “Malfoy, what are you doing here?” Though he had known Malfoy was here, he hadn’t been told why. He and Hermione had asked him what he was doing here but all he kept saying was that he needed to speak to Harry.

“Look Ron,” started Harry, “It’s kind of a long story, but Malfoy needs your permission as well as your parents to stay here until school starts back up…with us….” Ron was highly confused, Harry could tell.

Draco retold the whole story to Ron and at the end, when Ron was supposed to give his opinion, he looked really uncomfortable. “I really don’t know what I’m supposed to say,” Ron said.

“I don’t know what I expect you to say either,” said Draco. “I just can’t live that lifestyle anymore.” He was being honest.

Ron, however, wasn’t so sure. “What if you’re still working for him…what if you’re only trying to do Harry in?”

Draco nodded, “I figured you all would think that. I don’t know how I’m supposed to prove it to you…give me Veritaserum if you’d like…I really don’t care because no matter where I go, I’m not going back there, ever.”

Ron still looked at though he couldn’t believe Malfoy. “I just don’t see how you could just decide to turn against him one day.”

“One day?” Draco practically yelled. “I never once had a choice in the matter. I was put right into a spot as a Death Eater just because my father is one. It was like a dynasty. Suddenly, I was betrothed. Suddenly, I was evil and working for Voldemort. I never had a choice. I never wanted to do it. I may be the evil in Hogwarts, but I never intended to be the spawn of Satan in the world. I never wanted any of this. Never,” he spat out. His eyes seemed to be welling up with tears. He blinked quickly a few times and they were gone. His gray eyes were back to normal.

I just wanted to make it very clear that Malfoy is being civil with them, not because he really likes them or anything, but because he has to. He is asking them a favor. But yes, he really is being truthful. He's not trying to get Harry killed, for once. lol.

I felt dirty. This is not how I was raised, but I was desperate. I didn’t want to work for the Dark Lord anymore. I didn’t know how else to escape except to approach the person who hated the Dark Lord the most: Harry Potter.

“I can’t do it…” I heard myself mutter.

I couldn’t believe he was standing in the Weasleys’ house. I had, countless times, made fun of their house, their poverty. Now, I could hear the party of the year raging underneath him, and I was begging them to let me stay here.

“Well…” Ron started to say, “I guess we can talk to Mum and Dad. They’ll most likely let you stay…they’re generous.”

I felt a smile break across my face and I muttered, “Thanks, Weasley…er…Ron.”

Ron continued, “It’s too loud and late to talk to them right now, so why don’t you just go enjoy the party. We can talk to them in the morning. If anyone says anything about you being here, tell them to come take it up with us.”

I was surprised at Ron defending me, but I guess it had something to do with him being a sympathetic Weasley. I nodded and, after Ron and Harry had left the room, followed them down the stairs and enjoyed the music. Harry disappeared, probably to snog the Weasley girl, and Ron disappeared as well, most likely looking for Granger.

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Normal POV <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

On the contrary, Harry had left to find Ginny, but not to snog her. He caught up to her looking highly distressed. “What’s wrong, Gin?” he asked, worriedly.

“Nothing,” she sighed. “I was just wondering when you were going to come back.”

Harry smiled, happy that she had missed him. “You’ll never guess who was just upstairs.”

“Who?”

“Draco Malfoy.” Harry stated.

Ginny’s eyes widened, “What? Was he here to crash the party or something?” She glared towards the house at no one in particular.

“No,” Harry said. “He has fled Voldemort and his father and wants to stay here for the remainder of the summer.” Harry could tell Ginny was thoroughly confused, so he related the whole story to her. At the end she was so awestruck she couldn’t speak for a moment.

“But what if he’s lying?” Ginny said.

“He has offered us to give him Veritaserum,” Harry shrugged. “It’s just until school comes back.”

Ginny was unconvinced. “Maybe we should give him Veritaserum…”

“Ginny,” Harry said, grabbing her hand, forgetting what he was supposed to be doing (or not doing), “I wouldn’t let anything hurt you, not even Malfoy.” Ginny smiled. They stared at each other longingly for a few minutes.

“We should get back inside,” Harry said finally.

Ginny groaned, “Do we have to?”

“Be patient, Ginny. All good things take time.” With this, he took her hand and led her back to the teetering structure that was the Burrow. They walked back in and drank endless tankards of Firewhiskey and danced the night away, forgetting all about the conversation that would take place with Mr. and Mrs. Weasley the following day.
