Why does make the wolfsbane potion when he hates so much?? Mabye on orders but why???

But Snape didn't really hate Lupin, he only hated James and Sirius. Lupin was a much more timid student and never actually attacked Snape, he just let it happen sometimes. So while he maybe disliked Lupin for that, I don't think he held such a grudge against Lupin as he did with the other too.

Agreed. Snape would do anything that Dumbledore asked of him, it appears. He was in a large debt to Dumbledore, after all.

Perhaps the hatred wasnt for Lupin but for the things he had let happen in the past? More for the memories not for the person.

I dont think that he despises Lupin enough to make him suffer, I think that he just hated Sirius and James. Lupin never did anything to him, so it would be really sad if Snape had a cure that Lupin really needed!!

yes Sanpe hated lupin but i think it was all more of a trust thing between snape and Dumbledore. snape did think that lupin was in on the joke too after all and i don't think he could readily forget that without dumbledores help.

i reckon that snape doesn't really hate lupin to some degree as he does have a heart but at the end of it dumbledore probably wanted to keep the dada teacher for a year at least as it would have been hard to find another mid term if his secret would have come out.

I don't think Snape hated Lupin.

He was willing to put his own life at risk for Harry's and for his love of Lily, so there was SOME kindness in him. I go on that, he was kind enough not to let anything happen to Lupin, despite if he wanted to. I think deep down, he just couldn't be an evil character. He protected Harry, and he protected Draco, and he helped Dumbledore, and he loved Lily. He's not a hateful person.

Oh, I wouldn't call Snape a non-hateful person. The guy had so much bitterness bottled up in him that that would be going a bit far, don't you think?

But he didn't hate Lupin as much as he hated what he stood for, and who with. Lupin himself was never a controversial character, the only reasons people had for disliking him was the fact he was a werewolf, or because of his closeness with James and Sirius (like Snape).

I think Snape did hate Lupin, but in a more... sane way than everyone else.
He hated him for hanging around James and Sirius, for being a prefect and not doing anything about their actions, and probably a little for just being a werewolf. Of course, his hatred grew when he came and automatically got the DADA job over him - again.

I agree with most people here, that Snape didn't really hate Lupin enough to make him suffer that much. I always thought Snape was insanely human in a non-human way, so he couldn't have hated Lupin enough to not make the potions. It was probably because it was partially on Dumbledore's orders.

I agree with you guys that he didn't really hate Lupin enough to not make the Wolfsbane potion for him, plus I think that he is just human enough to not want to make any other students suffer through what nearly happened to him. After all he did put himself in danger to save the trio from being attacked. However on him not hating Lupin that much since he didn't do anything that brings up the question of why he hated Harry so much, since he definitely didn't do anything, I mean he wasn't even there, whereas Lupin was and he should have stood up to the others. But yea I think he also recognises that Lupin is deep down a good person, and he was probably under Dumbledores orders as well.

Back to the topic at hand: Definitely because of Dumbledore. Not only because of the fact that he owed him, but who could say no to Dumbledore, anyway? And, Dae made a great point about Smapey-poo not hating Lupin. Not to say that he liked him buttt, he didn't quite hate him as much.x]

I agree about the really hating Remus enough to do that to him, and Dumbledore asking him to. But I also think Snape was working in his own interests, too - without the potion, Remus has no control over the werewolf he becomes every month. Anyone could end up werewolf!Remus's dinner, Snape included.

I dont think he hated, though I'd say he disliked him very much and obviously he made the Wolfsbane with Dumbledore's command.

To prove his loyalty to the order, it's as simple as that

I think because he really knew that Lupin had no other to keep his job. And he knew that many more innocent people would die if he didn't....Maybe. And of course on Dumbledore's orders

Simply because Dumbledore asked him to. We now know that Snape was a very good person, even if he had made some mistakes in his life.

As many of you have said, I'm sure that Dumbledore gave orders to Snape to make Lupin his Wolfsbane Potion. Even though Snape wasn't exactly fond of Lupin due to events that happened in the past, Snape had Dumbledore's trust and I'm sure Dumbledore wouldn't be pleased if he didn't follow his orders.

This is the same thing with how Snape could've made it so the potion was made wrong and ended up killing Remus. Snape couldn't kill anyone while Dumbledore was there (again, the trust thing) and things would be putting Snape in a bit of a pickle as it would've showed that he held a grudge against a man for stuff that happened back when they were students. Nothing about him "turning back to his Death Eater ways" would take part as Snape believed Voldemort to be finished, and he was clearly on Dumbledore's side as we learned from the final book.

And that's most likely because it's just how Snape is. He doesn't really seem to like anyone. Let's not forget that Harry was also in Lupin's office when Snaoe brought in the goblet full of potion. Seeing Harry (who reminded Snape a lot of James, apparently) and Lupin together probably didn't help things as though could have easily brought back those school memories.

Snape would do anything that Dumbledore asked him to. Also while Snape did hate Harry's father and his crew. Lupin often times didnt do anything to stop the tormenting but he usually didnt participate in it. Lupin and Snape didnt like or dislike each other. Again it all comes down to the Deathly Hallows. We learn that Snape was Dumbledore's man.

Dumbledore's orders seems like the most likely answer. And besides, what would happen to Hogwarts - and also to Snape - if he just let a werewolf run free around the grounds?

Dumbledore trusts him. He is a spy for Dumbledore, and obviously, he'd be putting lots of people at risk if he didn't.

Snape is loyal to dumbledore.
Snape did dislike Lupin, he was (I dont care who objects) A wizard supremacist and truly did believe muggles, werewolves, and the like were under him. How else could the word mudblood so easily slip from his lips whil addressing the woman he loved.. he obviously struggled with that.
Anyway, above all the things Lupin has done, or not done, Snape is loyal to Dumbledore and Dumbledore asked him this favour.
