If you're having trouble logging in (i.e. you've forgotten your password/username, your password/username doesn't work, or some other type of login error) post here and we'll try to fix it for you. Make sure you post with your username, your email address where you can be easily reached, and preferrably an AIM or MSN address where you can be reached (but this isn't required). Please also make sure you provide DETAILS and tell us exactly what is happening. Saying "I can't log in" doens't tell us anything about what the source of the problem is.




Note for people having trouble logging out:
If you are having trouble logging out and staying logged out, try clearing your cookies manually.

Before you go through all the hoops of clearing cookies, though, try this quick trick: Go to the main forums page and scroll to the bottom. On the right side, just below the users online you'll see "Log Out YourUserName". Click on that and see if it logs you out (sometimes this works even when clicking log out on the top of the page doesn't).

If that doesn't work, here's the hoops:

For IE:
go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete Cookies
(if that doesn't work, you can try deleting your "History" as well)

For Netscape (older versions):
go to Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cookies -> Cookie Manager -> Remove All Cookies

For Firefox and Netscape (8.0 Beta):
go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> View Cookies -> Remove All Cookies

For Safari (1.0):
go to Safari menu -> Preferences -> Security -> Show Cookies -> Select Cookies to be deleted -> Delete

For AOL (Windows XP):
go to your Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options (you may have to switch to Classic View to get to this) -> General Tab -> Delete Cookies
(if that doesn't work, you can try deleting your "History" as well)


If this doesn't work, you may have to take drastic measures. Log out of SS and then go to a different site (like google.com). Then, delete your cookies and close your browser. Try going to SS now and see if you're still logged in. Hopefully you aren't but, unfortunately there are some people who just can't seem to log out, even after jumping through all these hoops.

If someone else needs to log into SS using your computer but, is unable to because you can't get logged out, you can try having them log into www.snitchseeker.org www.snitchseeker.net or use another web browser. We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience, our tech people are still scratching their heads over this problem and hope to have it fixed as soon as possible.

What problems? It would be easier to troubleshoot people's 'problems' if they actually told me what they were. Believe it or not, there are a lot of different things that could be happening when a person can't log in. Sometimes they get an error, sometimes they get a blank screen, sometimes it says they are logged in then goes to the forums page and they are mysteriously not logged in....

It's a random bug that happens to random people at random times. It eventually stops so you can log in but, it's downright annoying. We've notified the technical staff of the issue and hope they can resolve it but, I'm not sure what kind of timeframe we're looking at.

I've passed that login redirect problem to Dumbledore, so hopefully he'll get to look at it soon.

As for the post redirect thing, unfortunately we get database errors and timeouts when the server is heavily taxed. It SHOULDN'T happen because we have a monster server that's more than able, but it's happening now and then and when it does, we lose data when we're trying to send it (like submitting a post) at the time. We're aware of the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This sounds like a malicious advertisment is getting in the way. The front page of SS is the only place we have a pop-up ad occurring, and unfortunately we run into trouble with some of those. I don't think we can fix that, though I have mentioned it to Dumbledore for you. My advice is to remember or bookmark the URL for the forum index as your entry point, rather than the front page. It's www.snitchseeker.com/forum.php (so just add /forum.php to the end). You can safely login from here and you have your regular access to the whole site from this point. We're really sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for letting us know about this.

I tried your suggestion Elvpez...I am sorry to say though that it didn't help with my problem.. It still doesn't let me login correctly. It still pops up a window.. The window now gets blocked by my antivirus program but it still prevents me from logging in.. Any other ideas?

Gosh, that's a doozie! I can't think of what else to suggest right now, but I'll make sure Dumbledore knows you're still having trouble. Are you using IE or Firefox?

I hadn't gotten an email and so I Ithought since I knew I needed to have 10 posts,but it said I wasn't authorized to view the news forum.my problem is that I did not get an email and I can't get anywhere.
