Prefect Office (SS Anouncements, Help, and Feedback)This is your resource for any news or information on the SS Forums, and where SS staff announce important information. Also, if you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to bring them up here.
I just wanted to thank everyone who was having that attrociously annoying ad problem after we upgraded for being so patient as we worked with the ad host to resolve the issue. We have been informed that the offending ad has been pulled from the host so you shouldn't have to encounter it again.
I'm starting this thread to encourage you to post about any advertisements that may be inappropriate (they just aren't SS-friendly or redirect or seem to cause issues). We try to carefully monitor ads but, a lot of times certain ads are directed at just a certain area and we won't always notice them all.
With that said, we do know how some of the ads force the menus behind them and there isn't really anything we can do about that. Should you encounter one of these ads and you need to use the pulldown menus at the top of the screen (ie: the sections menu) your best bet is to just reload the page and hope for a better ad.
How to report a problem ad
When reporting a problem ad, please include the following in your post:
1) General region you are located (country and/or state)
2) A screenshot of the ad (preferred) or a description of the ad
3) What the problem is with the ad
4) If your computer is attacked, what information does your antivirus software give you?
5) Any other relevant information

I'm not sure if this is a real problem or not, but an aweful lot of the advertisements are to do with quick weight loss. I don't have any images, nor do I know much about the links with them. I am merely bringing them up because of the strain put on some people (like my best friend) by the media with things like these adverts.
I'm in England, and the adverts usually consist of a very slim torso, with a tape measure around it, or a 'before' and 'after' photo, again usually zoomed in on the torso.
there is one that is particuarly annoying its a red box above the banner. no screen cap but it makes a noise all the time, the sound is like when an error box comes up of you were to close word without saving, i had it most days i came in here last week, saying click here or something.. have to turn speakers around.

Soooo I just noticed an advertisement that showed up within the last day or two, and while it isn't offensive its REALLY annoying and has popped up 90% of the time I refresh since I got it for the first time a couple of days ago.
It's an ad for Sprint, and its a pop-up ad that covers a good portion of my screen if you scroll over it. Half the time I don't even TOUCH it and it pops up. Plus if you hit CLOSE in the bottom, more often than not it takes you to another website.
SPOILER!!: Cap
Sometimes if I scroll down the page, the ad follows me Especially if I opened the page and scrolled to the bottom REALLY fast right after it loaded. There is a similar ad for another company, but I get the Sprint one the most and wasn't able to cap that one.
I'm in the US, and this happens on Internet Explorer. It does NOT occur on Firefox if you have the Ad Blocker mentioned above, but i know some people don't have FireFox so even though I can avoid it, I figured it was at least worth reporting to see if you guys can do anything about it

We've had some problems with our google ads lately and I think we may have finally eliminated the worst offenders (trojans and whatnot). Unfortunately, we need the ads to keep the site running but have little control over what pops up until after it does and we see that it's inappropriate (we have filters in place, but they don't always work).
I'd really appreciate it if people could continue to post screencaps of bad ads and if your computer is attacked (or an attack is attempted), please provide any information your antivirus software shows you, as well. This was highly useful information when I finally managed to get my computer threatened (so I could take the IP and URL info in order to block future ads from that place).
Please make sure you all run antivirus software and keep it up to date! This is important no matter what sites you are browsing because you never know what's out there.
Be safe, thanks for helping us out with catching these bad ads, and I apologize that the staff can't always catch them and get them off before the members see them.
1. General region you are located (country and/or state):
I live in Texas
2. A screenshot of the ad (preferred) or a description of the ad:
I'll get to that in a sec.
3. What the problem is with the ad:
Invasive.
4. If your computer is attacked, what information does your antivirus software give you?
This system is clean.
5. Any other relevant information:
I've been having horrible problems with banner ads. I got a screencap from Firefox. Also got one from Chrome but noticed the site only somewhat works with it. ? Anyway.. So here's what I got:
SPOILER!!: Advert Images
Firefox:
Chrome:
So after I read the post by Antarctica! up there.. I had totally forgotten to put AdBlock Plus back on after I reformatted last. So I did, and it cleared it right up. All other adverts are still around, but none popping up and covering my User CP.
Also. I tried NoScript for the first time (for FF) and it disabled A LOT of things. Not just here, but PB too. Wouldn't allow me to sign in there. So just AdBlock Plus should help just fine should you need it.
