I know the prophecy says that Harry will kill him or he will kill Harry, but I think that prophecy only goes as far as someone is willing for it to go. If Dumbledore had the opportunity to take him out, then he should have used it. However, it that happened then there wouldn't be two other books either. So, I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out. May the good guys win in the end.

bare with me on this one it,s kinda long ,sorry

the one with the power to vanquish the dark lord approches (which would be ether nevill longbottom or harry potter )

born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies
(ehter the potters or the longbottoms) (that would be july)

and the dark lord will mark him as his equal,
(that would be harry)

but he will have power the dark lord knows not
(remember lily sacrificed herself for harry giving him protection)

and ether must die at the hand of the other for niether can live while the other survives
(meaning that harry must kill voldemort or voldemort must kill harry in the end
and maybe the other cannot live while the other survives becous of the fact that harry and voldemort have some kind of connection from the curse that failed

You know, I've thought of this often. What if this whole prophecy isn't saying just one will die? Maybe, it's really saying they both must. Although, that would be horribly sad.

But, it's JK's story not ours...

Oooh, that devious devious man! All this time pretending to aid Harry! Didn't you ever wonder why he gave Harry over to Snape to study occlumency? I say that DD knows that Harry will have to kill LV because if DD killed LV that would kill both Harry and LV. So Harry has to kill LV himself so he can like unlock something inside him that will keep him from being killed when he kills LV.

I thought that it was pretty obvious and the prophecy has to be right HP must face "he shall not be named" . I think the reason jk did not kill him in the 5th was b/c we have two yrs. left sooo we have a lot to look forward too in the 7th book.

I agree. Harry has to kill him, to fullfill the prophecy... the real question however is if Harry will survive... Just because one has to die at the hands of the other does not mean the victor will survive... I think that Harry will kill voldy, but then die at the same time also.

that question is driving me mad it has to be because either Dumbledore thought that Harry has to kill him or that Dumbledore wasnt to concerned in killing Voldermort, hee was more concerned in Harry and everyone else who was hurt.
