well....when i got the movie on DVD and the boy comes out talking.....in the captions you guys know how when a new character starts talking it says the name....like this (EX. "Harry:He was their friend, and he betrayed them.")


well in my movie...when this boy talks it says BEN. I don't know why but it does.

Is there any Ben in the books? and i do agree that Dean Thomas should come out more in the films.....and that the lines that the unknown boys says are really cheesy, like when Sirius Black is sighted and the gryffindors are discussing it in the great hall and he says "It's like trying to catch smoke....it's like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands..." *lol...i just think the line is stupid*

but it is funny when in divination, seamus says "the grin, what's the grin?" and then "BEN" says, "not the grin you idiot, the grim" lol

And besides, I'd like play in a role...some things are just not fair...and one of my people's gotten the role of Cho Chang, just because they were lucky enough to be a UK citzen while I'm not ....Is it just me, or was I acting jealous? Anyway, I think they just wanted to fill the classes up with more Gryffindor males, so...*poof*...and there was Ben. It's actually quite stupid, really. They reckon they try to be as true to the books as possible, but adding in another character for filler? That's just bloody ridiculous. I know JKR is co-writer of the movie scripts, and nothing happens unless she says it does, but I'm wondering why she would allow a non-existant Gryffindor 3rd yr to suddenly appear. It's very strange...

It's not as if they don't have enough kids. There's meant to be two Houses per class, which equals to 20 kids. Sounds plenty enough to fill a room, to me at least. It'd actually save money for them, not having to pay so many extras plus educate them while they're working.

JK isn't a co-writer of the scripts at all, that's a common mis-conception. The scripts are based on her books, that is all. She doesn't have much power over the films at all and no contractual rights, so Heyman said, but they do certain things out of respect for her.

I know this has nothing to do with who we're talking about, but it does with the title of this topic. I'm curious as to who the boy is with Draco Malfoy. There's Crabbe and Goyle, but who's the third guy with them? I noticed that Josh Herdman wasn't in PoA as often as he should have been, so I'm thinking that maybe he had other committments and couldn't do some shots, so they brought in the 3rd guy so that Malfoy had two "cronies" with him in all of his scenes. What are your views on this?

I think they confirmed it somewhere, although I cant think where, that it's that ratty boy from the OotP Thestral class, Theodore Nott possibly, one of the Slytherin gang.

But doesn't Steve Kloves keep regular contact with JK while writing the scripts? I know she's not a co-writer, I just said that to emphasise my point. I saw this interview with JK and Kloves and they said they discuss everything about the scripts, what's to go in, what's not, etc. And also I saw one with JK and Alfonso Cuaron where they discussed how much control JK has, and from what I could hear, it sounded like she has a fair amount of say in everything that goes on in the movies. I'm not trying to put you down or prove you wrong - I'm not like that at all. It's just, from what I've read, seen and heard...

He did with PS but not after that one. And that doesn't mean she co-writes, he just asks her what generally needs to stay.

I've seen the same interview and it didn't seem that way. Yes she has some influence but not because it's contracted. David Heyman said about JK having very few rights over the films in the following interview:

Yeah at first I was watching the movie and the boy turns up and it's the second time I was watching it. So I sat there trying to figure who he was. I even tried to look it up, but it didn't go so well lol. I got nothing, but I want to find out.

That kid just bugs me, he has the most random lines and as soon as he spoke the first time I said, outloud in the cinema mind you, "Who are you meant to be?". That was before I was told off by the usher but lets not get into all that again...
Anyway, he isn't in any of the Gryffindor common room scenes and he isn't in the Fat Lady's first scene or anything. (I know because I frame freezed it). I just like to call him 'Random-guy-who-bugs-me', but your name for him is good too Emma. Hold on, maybe he is the Half-blood Prince, and keeper of the Green flame torch, and the one the prophecy speaks of, and the one who is mosty likely to end up with Harry.

Long name dude. He takes too much film time up. I repeat. Give. The. Lines. To. DEAN. I mean, he goes out with Ginny in OotP so unless he does some talking all the non-book fans will be like "Who in Merlin's name, is he?!"

That is if Ginny's in OotP, I mean, they could replace her with the second cousen of the make up lady.
And if that happen's obviously the film makers can except a very long and uncensored rant from one Lupin Jr. I was thinking about this the other day, and I think that the train scene in OotP is going to have to be pretty long, they will need to introduce Neville, Ginny and Luna. They could have handled Ginny and Neville in the earlier movies but they havn't so the audience doesn't really know them. I suppose they can handle Ginny's character at Grimmauld Place, then give the audience a brief reminder of Neville and a Luna introduction in the train scenes. Otherwise come the DoM the audience will be saying "Who are they following HRH around?". Anyways, I'm ranting.

Ah, yes...the anonymous boy in PoA. I thought the actor playing Dean was good in the previous movies, so I also wondered why he didn't get more lines. At first I thought at first maybe he was the twins best friend, Lee Jordan.

I think it'll be just like, "Hi, Neville, hi Ginny. Who's that?" *pointing at Luna* and before you know it R/Hr are back from their 'Prefects Meeting' aka Snog session.

If it was he would've put on ALOT of weight and shaved off his dreads!!!

I really wonder why that boy named "Ben" is in the movies. He's not in the canon, and he just made some people like me go, "Who the heck is that"? I acknowledge the fact that random d00ds ruled the year 2004 (according to VH1's Best Week Ever series), but I just can't accept the fact that a random d00d just appears in the film with no notice whatsoever, and he has about three lines, and the movie is produced in a way that without "Ben's" lines, the movie will fall apart. A reason why they could've casted that guy is because they were in desperate need of someone to say the cheesy lines, and since the other kids who were already in the cast before don't want to say those lines, they let one random d00d do the lines.

It makes me wonder... Will the same guy be in GoF? How about in OotP, who will they be casting as Susan Bones, a member of the DA? Or will the DA members of OotP besides the kids who are in the present cast gonna be random d00ds again?
