During POA, there is this gryffindor boy who kept popping up every now and again with various lines like in Divination class he tell us about the Grim.

Who is this boy? I tried looking at the cast list, but I couldnt find him anywhere.

It seemed like he was meant to be in the trio's year... but why didnt they just give the lines to the person who plays Dean Thomas?

Im just curious to know who this boy is. Any ideas?

I think it's great that didn't make always the same people speak in the movie. It would be a bit irreal if it were only the group of gryffindors we know (dean, seamus, neville...) who said important things.

I agree that Dean doesn't say much in the movies, it's always Seamus who makes commentaries. I can't even remember what Dean looks like lol.

Fact is, he doesn't exist. There are 10 kids in Harry's year, in Gryffindor. Fair enough, they could've had a girl say it because there are two other Gryffindor third year girls we don't know of, but we know all the boys, Harry, Ron, Seamus, Neville & Dean. I blank out that boy when I watch the film and refer to him as Mr, Who-doesn't-actually-ever-exist-and-nor-will-ever-exist-in-canon.

Dean only had one line, saying what a Boggart was in the DADA lesson and even then you couldn't see his face. If it's about racial equality, then it doesn't make sense, look at all the variety hp has - the patils, angelina johnson, alicia spinnet, cho chang, dean thomas, viktor krum, fleur delacour.

He's just one big mistake. The lines he says aren't even necessary and are extremely cheesey at some points.

Best guess is, he's the son of some executive or crew member and they pulled a few strings, opened a few doors and got him some limelight. Just look at who played Susan Bones, Chris Columbus' daughter. So it's alot about who you know, that gets you into HP. Connections and the such.

Yeah it isn't fair but you see it everyday in Movies. Like have you notice that these people with 0 actting skill get huge rolls because of who their father, mother or sibling is? Ashlee Simpson is an example if it weren't for her sister Jessica she wouldn't be that big of a star.

I dont think that boy is dean thomas...Dean thomas was another boy,he was shown in COS i think(during the howler scene,a black boy points out Errol!).I too wondered who this boy shown in POA was.

In PoA movie there were many, many weird things which weren't in books. That boy is probably one of them.

Him as the half blood prince?? Sorry to sound preppy here but AS IF! Like it was previously said he would have to be written in first. Also I still think he's someone on the sets relative who "loved" Harry Potter so a set worker pulled some strings and got him a part.
