| I think he looked way better in the computer game than in the movie (not kidding!).
@expeliarbum: Yes, I'm getting your point. However, I have to argue with you. Aragorn and Sam both don't look like that in the book!!! (though I don't object to them in the movie, they were well cast and did a good job) |

| I liked Lupin in the movie, I thought he was a really good actor and did a great job of capturing the emotional aspects of the role. However, I have to admit that I did not read POA until after I had seen the movie, that might have something to do with it. I had no previous idea of what Lupin might look like until I saw him on screen. And I must agree that Aragorn and Sam were very different from what was in the LoTR books. Aragorn in my opinion was much better, less arrogant. Sam was supposed to be younger than Frodo, but Sean Astin did a really good job. |

| there was nothing wrong w/lupin's appearance, i think its because he appeared sort of disheveled at first and in some other scenes of the movie but i think he was terrific |

I pictured Aragorn a Lot uglier during reading LotR, but the actor (Viggo, who's a lot hotter and younger) got in Aragorn's shoes, he gave soul to the character, he didn't limited himself just to repeating lines. You could see that he was being him. And I think that Lupin didn't do that. I don't know, maybe the actors believe that HP is too fantastic or something... dunno |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Isabella Thompson First | Yeah which is what I beleive Lupin did really well. Even though he didnt look like everyone thought he looked the part, he was Lupin. He really puit himself into the character and made it what it was. |

| OK, I'll admit I'm shallow. I wouldn't have minded Lupin being a little hotter in the movie, but...the descriptions of Snape in the books do not lead us to believe he is attractive (greasy, hook-nosed, sallow) but plenty of people (me included ) think Alan Rickman is hot.
I think David Thewlis did a fine job. What he looks like is unimportant. I love the character of Remus Lupin not David Thewlis and no casting director can change that. |

| Does it really matter what the characters look like? I mean, I know it's important, yes, but is it such a big issue? Not everyone is going to be satisfied. The most important thing I think is the way they acted. I thought David Thewlis did a wonderful job. Would you rather have someone who didn't look like what you had imagined but protrayed the character really well or someone who looked exactly as you had pictured them but didn't act the part? |

I don't care much weather the actors look like how the characters are described in the books or not as long as they get their personality right. Harry doesn't have black hair and green eyes either, Petunia and Dudley are dark haired instead of blonde. Sirius too is a brunette instead of having jet black hair etc. etc.
I think Thewlis did a wonderful job as Lupin. I liked Lupin when reading the books but totally love him after seeing the movie! He looked so tired and scruffy, just as I pictured he would look, and he was so kind and patient.
For the record, I thought Gary Oldman did a good job as well. We didn't see that much of him so he wasn't given much time to develope his character, so I'm really looking forward to seeing him again |

| Lupin just wasn't how i imagine him (looks wise), but i really enjoyed Thewlis' acting.
i know it shouldn't matter how the charcters look, but i've spent years reading about them & built a picture in my head of how they look & i was a bit disappointed with lupins appearence. |

| Some people didn't like Thewlis as Lupin, but you know, I'm a huge Thewlis fan *points to avvie*
At first, I was very put off by the moustache. My favorite character is Lupin, and I just thought it was wrong of them to give him a moustache. But I've gotten past that now. Thewlis gives a great performance, enough to make you say "Who cares about a stupid piece of facial hair?" I mean, he was bald in The Big Lebowski, but his laugh was so cute that I got over his baldness.
Back to Thewlis' perfomance as Lupin...outstanding. Sure, he was a bit odd on the train, but he got better and better. When Thewlis is on screen (in my opinion) he steals that scene. You just look into those eyes of his (which weren't shown much in PoA, but believe me) and he sees into your soul. He gives Lupin this appearance of someone who has stepped out of the forties, what with his clothing and his awesome jazz music. Not to mention all those times he said "Here, have some chocolate". The audience started laughing when he did that little head tilt in the Patronus scene after saying it. Heh, did I mention he's got gorgeous hands?
Moving on...the Shrieking Shack. Oh, Thewlis is wonderful in it. I wish they'd left Lupin's speech in it. Not only is it a key point of understanding and the plot, but I just know Thewlis would have been superb giving that speech. But sadly, that wasn't in there. What was in there was a seemingly evil Lupin. In the book, after Hermione reveals that Lupin is a werewolf, Lupin is very calm, pleading her to let her explain. But Thewlis makes this his own. He seems so evil, and you believe that he's been planning with Sirius all along. That line..."You really are the brightest witch of your age I've ever met"...it's like sly and sinister King Einon from Dragonheart. The Shack is one of Thewlis' best scenes. And with all the said "subtext", I hear Lupin/Sirius fans are happy.
Next, the transformation. Oh, that CGI werewolf was awful, it was so sad when he was fully transformed and we had to look at that ugly thing. But back to the transformation, Thewlis was brilliant again. That look of fear in his eyes! (and the cool special effects they had when his eyes turned green) The pain...*sniffle*...I actually got all teary eyed when he started transforming. Thewlis was able to convey such pain onto that screen. I wanted to go hug him. Wonderful acting.
Let's see...well, about half an hour or so later from when he transforms, we get to see him again. And sadly, he's leaving. I actually got teary eyed during this scene too. I didn't want him to leave! He's the best teacher, his actor is amazing...and pretty good looking. The lines about him being a werewolf, how he wasn't even saying the word (which some believe to mean that it was an ambiguous speech and could also refer to that he's gay. Which I won't believe. Lupin is mine. And Thewlis ). He said them kind of casually, yet there was a pain behind it. The casual way he said "Believe me, I've looked worse" but the meaning behind it...it's a great last scene of the movie (in my opinion, the true ending instead of that broom flying crap). And the last time we see him until OotP. Oh, Lupin...David...
In the end, Thewlis, in my opinion, fabulous. He is Lupin. It was great how he managed to make many think "You know what, he wasn't that bad" after they had been saying that he would make a good Lupin. I know I will be awaiting his return in OotP. And until then, there's still David in Kingdom of Heaven and The New World to look forward to.

| That sure came from the heart Lovely post. And I agree with everything you said. I had never seen Thewlis before, didn't even know who he was before seeing the film. But now he will always be Lupin for me. Such a dear man. He was perfect for the role. Yes, I loved that scene when he was leaving to. I had such an urge to give him a hug, lol. That poor, poor man Can't wait to see him again! |

| I recently saw Dragonheart on TV, and I noticed that Thewlis used to be a lot slimmer once. He would have fitted a lot better for Lupin had he still looked like that! |

| I always imagined Lupin as a lot younger and more handsome. but when i think about it more, it makes sense for him to look like he's in his late 30s and worn out from the full moons. |

| Thanks for all the comments about my speech there! Now if only he would read it and send me a letter or something, lol! And I've only been a Thewlis fan since I saw PoA on June 4th. I've been quite obsessed with them, I saw 5 more of his movies (more great performances...and those hands...)
Yeah, I know in Dragonheart he's a lot thinner, he's also thinner in The Island of Dr. Morreau which he made the same year. But it was 1996 then, and this is 8 years later, and people don't look the same as they did 8 years ago. But really, was very very skinny then. You can really see it more in The Island of Dr. Morreau. I don't think he would have looked good if he was that skinny, unless it was Lupin just out of school around the time before Lily and James died. His weight doesn't really bother me. The thing is, it's a bit odd for him to go from the way he is to a little skinny, ugly, bald werewolf. And there's just one part in the Shrieking Shack where Lupin has his want at Peter, and you just see his (Lupin's) lowerhalf and his butt, and he looks a bit fat there. But other than that, I'm not complaining. I don't think I was. Just commenting. Spread the Thewlis luurve...

| i thought he did a great job. i wasnt imopressed at FIRST by his appearence however i soon forgot about that and was enthrawled by his performace as Remus Lupin (My second fav marauder).
i thought he was very funny wether it was intentional or not for example.
with the boggart he asked nevil what he frear he says Snape (Drools) and Lupin very quitely says "Frightens us all" i laughed
then
When Harry is caught by Snape (Drools again) and Lupin takes the map and reads it he is seen lauging the expression on his face is great.
he worled well on screen with Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman *Swoons* i cant wait to see him again in OOTP.
He is great even if he is going out with Beth from Brookside lol |

I don't remember spotting him, and I'm usually very good with that sort of thing. Thewlis doesn't look like I imagined Remus, but he acted very much like I thought he would, so I was very happy. He is the one Marauders who's casting I'm happy with. |

And he laughed, sat in a chair, laughed, read a magazine, laughed, talked for maybe two lines, laughed, got on his cellphone, laughed, and laughed on his cell phone. His part is around fortyfive minutes into the movie. His scene is with Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges. That bald David...but his laugh is adorable...*wants to laugh with him*
The DADA scene! Wonderful! Another good scene (though I think now I'm saying all of his scenes are great...cause they are). I also loved the "Professor Snape..hmm...frightens all..." but what about the "...hello" right before it? The first time I saw PoA, I didn't hear it because I was with my friends, and we kept talking and laughing at things and appearences (since we pretend to be the Marauders) but the second time I saw it with just my mom, and I heard the "...hello" and it was hysterical!
