| What did you think of Lupin/David Thewlis
I have to say I was definitely apprehensive, but he was SOOOOOOOO good. That whole movie was amazing.
Also, does anyone else get the feeling that Lupin may have had a thing for Lily?

I think it was hinted at, but I can't be sure.
I loved his portrayal of Lupin. The only issues I had were with the awful hair and mustache. | |

He was completely different from teh Lupin I imagined. However, I think he did a brilliant job. I think I like this version of Lupin a little better than the one in my own imagnation, actually.
edit: Yeah... I thought so too. I have a feeling this is one of the 'clues' Rowling was saying got intutively put into the movie by director Cuaron without knowing!

I thought that he was spot on. The way he acted as Lupin, he was Lupin. Who cares what he looks like. He captured the role.

I hated his portrayal of Lupin. I'd always imagined Lupin as a much friendlier person, and while you got hints of it in conversations with Harry, it still wasn't what I'd imagined at all.
As an example, in the Shreiking Shack, when they make Peter show himself, Lupin says <paraphrase, don't have book at work!> "Hello, Peter, long time no see" pleasantly, as though old school friends appear regularly.
This casual, friendly, fun nature wasn't shown at all. I didn't see any of the type of character that would make bubble gum fly down Peeves nose, root for Griffyndor over Slytherin, etc. Lupin in the books is FRIENDLY. Lupin in the movie was scary and creepy with a bit of decent thrown in.
Nope. Did not like Lupin at all.

I think I explained what I was talking about. When I envisioned Lupin as I read the books, I thought of him as friendlier. I think JKR WROTE him friendlier, more warm and caring. I only got creepy vibes from the movie Lupin. I didn't like him one bit.
Why would you ask what I was talking about when I'd already explained why I felt that way? It's not like I just said "he sucks" and went off, I told you exactly why I didn't like the portrayal. You can like how he portrayed Lupin, I hate it. I hate it very very much. And I'm allowed to do that.

I have a feeling this is one of the 'clues' Rowling was saying got intutively put into the movie by director Cuaron without knowing! perhaps, i've had my suspicions when I read the book, guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't think it was love-love, but I think that Lupin was the bridge between James and Lily-that Lupin became close to Lily and thus she was able to see James wasn't so bad. The part where Lupin talked to Harry after Harry got caught by Snape seemed a bit overdone. Yes, in the book Lupin was angry, but he seemed cold and almost cruel the way he talked to Harry. I did miss the little things that he did that made him so sweet and friendly. But, I think Thewlis was a decent Lupin. I by no means hated him.

Yeah, I was very impressed but Thewlis taking on Lupin. I did think Lupin would be a little bit more friendlier and kinder, but he still pulled it off at certain moments. I think he did fantastic when he was yelling at Harry, "Your parents died so that you could live! And I think wandering around at night with a murderer on the loose is a pretty poor way to repay them! (pause) I will not cover for you next time! Understand Harry?"
That line sent shiver's up my spine. It was very well preformed.

I thought Thewlis did a good job with the acting requirements, but he still looks nothing like I pictured Lupin. I'm not one of the girls who's screaming that he should have been more handsome, but I just pictured him different. And, although he was kind - he wasn't as kind as I imagined. The scene with the Bogart, where Neville describes his grandmother's clothes and Lupin says "We don't need to hear about it..." I was like, what is that all about?
He still did a lot better than Gary Oldman ::grumble::

Yeah, that "We don't need to hear it!" sounded a little like how Snape would have talked to Neville.

i LOVED gary as sirius.
i mean i adore sirius(points at signature) and i always thought that no man could come close to getting him right. and i cant say that oldman matched my version of sirius- but he did a good job of it
he hasnt had a lot of screen time for us to get into it properly but i thought he was ok. but i guess those who adore sirius, will always hold out for someone else
and i have to slightly agree with tylermomma- i imagined him to be nicer....somehow.
and gentler and deeper. oh you can probably tell i love lupin loads too dont you? lol
but no, on the whole, IMO, thewlis and oldman did a good job with their characters. problem is- sirius and lupin are such well loved characters that people are always going to have this very set idea and i dont think anyone can match them

ok, before i saw the movie...i had my MAJOR doubts about Thewlis and Oldman.
sure, i imagined them the complete opposite to the actors, but they portreyed them wonderfully :sorcerer:
and even though i am in absolute love with Remus John Lupin [*sigh*yeah, i have crushes on *fictional* charecters... ] , i didnt think that Thewlis would work for me.....but whadda you know? he grew on me

Thewlis may not have looked exactly like I'd pictured Lupin, but the way he played Lupin, it was really as if he was Lupin. He just became the character and I think he did an awesome job!!!

Thewlis didn't look like Lupin, but he acted like him. If the friednliness didn't come across, we can only blame the director for not correcting Thewlis when they were shooting. But that's just my opinion.

I thought Thewlis had Lupin's character pretty spot-on.
I would agree with those who object to certain aspects of Lupin's character not being developed enough. But again, that is the fault of the screenwriter. I also think a few minor details could have been added to point out Lupin's werewolf-based poverty. Again, though, Thewlis did great with what he was given.

That line sent shiver's up my spine. It was very well preformed. Same here! It was really well performed and it showed the different sides to Lupin.

I thought that he did an excellent job as far as acting goes, but that really wasn't what I had imagined Lupin looking like... the mustache... *shudders* But anyway, overall, I think he did a great job.

That line sent shiver's up my spine. It was very well preformed. That's what I thought. It's clearly obvious that Lupin isn't being nasty without cause. Harry needs a good telling off now and then to remind him to kick his brain into gear. Thewlis did this fantastically whilst keeping himself as Lupin. I think that addition made his character and link to Harry's parents far more realistic and believable.

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs i loved Lupin in the movie he reminded me of a fim called Goodbye Mr Chips. the teacher in that is kind of like Lupin.
i think that he needed to tell Harry off and Harry acsepted that he deserved it.
