Why do you like the world of Harry Potter?

Why do you like Harry Potter? What is it that made you become a fan of the books/movies? When and how did you become a fan? Share your stories with us!

Personally, I saw the movies first. I never thought I'd read the books. I was one of those advanced readers who just didn't see a point in going "back" to children's books. I didn't discredit Harry Potter, however. I figured it was a nice change - Kids reading! I even had a chance to meet JK and just didn't care. A year later, I read OotP and was hooked and kicked myself, several times, for not taking the opportunity when it knocked.

OotP gave me a chance to see a more mature setting for the trio and I even cried when Sirius died, even though I really didn't know much about him at that time. I connected to the characters and was drawn in.

I got interested because some of my students were reading them. I like the books better than the movies, but I do like the movies.

my studentws were reading them, so i needed to catch up with them. I became a fanatic. the books take you into the characters lives.

I started by reading the books.
I'd got some money for my birthday,the year the first book came out,and as I have always enjoyed reading I decided to buy a book.
I was looking round the shop and saw it on the shelf.Magic has always interested me,whether it be like in Harry Potter or magicians tricks at parties,so I thought I would give it a go.
I got completely hooked and was so excited when it was announced they were going to make the film series.
I dragged my family with me to the cinema about 4 times to watch PS and have basically been into everything Harry Potter since.
I just wish I had more money,then I would get more of the merchandise.

My mom read me the first book when I was in first grade. after that I was hooked. She let me go into her room to get the books and now i get to keep them in my room and read the new ones first.

Where to Begin???

My first Post so bear with me.
I Guess I owe all my Intrest to JKR Herself. The simple fact that she could take all the Myths in any fantasy world and put them in a place that makes sense.
Combining Witchcraft, Werewolves, Vampires, Giants all living right under our noses. It makes u think anything is possible out there.
I Started off with the first two Movies, got hooked, then read the first 5 Books (Much better) and anxiously awaited release dates for every book & Movie after that.

My mom first started reading the first book to me and my sister when we were in first grade. at first, though, i just watched the movies, but when i heard about the OotP movie coming out, i decided to catch up and read the books. (i was actually reading the OotP in the theater so i could find out the ending before i saw it on the screen.)

The world of H.P. is tremendously unique and beautiful and it gave me all the freedom to imagine that I could possibly need. It kind of saved me from sinking into a great deal of sadness. ^^

i like harry potter because i like harry, hermione and ron. it was very easy for me to get drawn into the books because i found harry to be so likable i immediatly liked him and wanted to know what happened to him, he wasn't whiney to disrespectful or busy seing angry about something. he drew me in and i was in his world and hooked into what happened to him very quickly. i was hooked!

I actually came across the series when I was 12 or so. My cousin had brought one of her Harry Potter books along with her when she spent the night and I picked it up and was completely confused with what I was reading. She explained to me that "It's better when you read the first book so that you understand what's happening." A week later I did.
I like the world of Harry Potter because I enjoy reading a lot and I'm a fan of good creative writing. I was instantly hooked!

Well, I was about 12, I remember in grade 7, everyone was talking about this harry potter, In my eyes it sort of sounds.. dumb. I mean whose name is Harry Potter, right? So I never paid any attention to it, and laugh at the book pretty much. I went to the movies with some friends, because well they all really liked Harry Potter, but still didnt care much for it. It wasnt untill.. umm I dont no exactly how old I was.

All I remember was my brother had taken the second harry Potter book out of the Library, and had asked my mom to read it to him. I was really bored so I decided to go join them, just because there was nothing on T.V. My mom read one chapter and my little brother was already asleep. My mom went to close the book, and stop reading when I was like. "What are you doing!?" She said, my brother was sleeping so she was done reading.

"Fine!" I said, and then I grabbed the book out of my moms hands and ran up to my bedroom. (In other words, I was up all night reading that book, could barly even put it down to go to the bathroom. lol)

The book came out when I was in third grade (I think) and our teacher read us the first book. Well, my teacher and my grandmother grew up together and she suggested to my grandmother that I should read them, since I loved to read and everything. I got pulled in from the start, as you'll imagine. The plot was interesting and the characters were just...loveable. Plus, the characters were all my age, and as they grew up, I grew up. They were like my brothers and sisters, cousins and people...my family.


Basically, Harry Potter was my entire childhood.

Hi guys,
I started off reading the books. I got really interested and watched every movie as soon as it came out. Diddo with the books. I absolutely love the whole world of Harry Potter. How anyone can come up with such a place amazes me! She (J.K Rowling) developed all the characters, their personality, their looks, and I was blown away with the whole concept of it.
