Well for the auror, you have to go to a special ministry thing that has already been finished. For all the others, e.g. house name, you must be sorted. Once you finish school, you can ask to become a teacher... or before.
These are all automatically placed under your name.

yes to the first question. As soon as you're sorted, you go to diagon alley and from there, ollivandors is then open. The siggy's usually show up at the very bottom of your post but you have to turn on the application on your user co in order to see yours and other peoples siggy's. They are, again, at the very bottom of your post. These are automatic so you can't change them from your post. Well, some are for teachers or the job a certain mod or admin has. Also, you can get tags when you sign up for fanclubs

If you go into your ff, at the top, where the http is (where you type in the website), you can copy that and, for your post/ siggy or whatever you are trying to link, you press on the insert link button (at the top of the post box, it's the earth with a chain link) and insert it.

These just show what sort of rank you have. Flobberworms are usually the newbies but as you post more, the names change and go up in rank also. E.g, i have about 1,400 post so i am a skwert.

Under your name, and your avvy, on the left side of the post, there is a thing that says posts:... and shows how many posts you have. Once that number is at 10, then it means you have 10 posts. But the sorting doesn't start until september.

No, you can be any age to join. Although for fanfics, there are age ratings so for the restricted section, it would be unadvisable to read the stories if you are under 15. Other then that... nope. The sorting only stops when the school year begins. once it's over, the sorting begins again... followed by another school year.

In either the romance section or the restricted section, there is a button that says new thread. If you press this, you can submit your story with the rating and name.

do answering polls count as one of the ten legitamate posts? b/c a lot of Hagrid's Hut is polls, and we've already answered most of the posts that you can answer.

Okay. For your first question. NO.

Once you have posted your ten posts, that automatically makes you a member of SS and you will be able to answer the quiz and get sorted in September.

If you post in the poll thread, then it does. But if you just check a choice and not post in the thread, then it doesn't.

You clink on the link [More] which is just below the ten smilies, then you will find one of those scrolly thingies saying Choose a Catagory, select generic smilies and you will get the ‘normal’ smilies. Click on one and it will be on your post.

There are other rpg boards than the school rpg. To be able to post in those you need 10 legit posts. So why don't you try and get your post count up, and you will be able to join in a few rpgs. That way time will go a lot faster while you wait for the sorting.

Do not share your account with anyone. This goes against the rule of not giving out your password. Each of you will need to have your own account.

You have a choice, but it's recommended that you start as a first year. Given that each term is only 3 months long, you'll be an older student in no time

It's not pointless because that way you can get to know the rules of the site before posting in the rest of the forums. It's part of the rules and everyone here had to do it when they first joined.

Those were part of the July activities here in the forum. Unfourtunately, those activities and drawing to a close now that July is almost over.

Once you have the ten posts, you can participate on the rest of the site. Next sorting will start on September 3rd. You can be sorted then.

Go to your User CP (Blue toolbar). There click on Edit Avatar to get a picture under your username. (since you are still a newbie, you have to choose from those provided by the site.) And for you role play name, on that same menu, click on Edit Profile. There you will be able to write your role play name.
