If you know the answer to a newbie's question, feel free to answer it, but anyone who replies in a non-friendly way in here will most likely be punished.
Also, don't pretend to ask something just so it looks like you're not spamming out of the Newbie Hut. It's selfish, takes up other people's time and will result in a big, ugly, scary PM from one of us telling you off.

How do I give myself my own avatar (one that is not pre-set from the site). I see a lot of people have avatars that are not from the pre-made ones.

Scroll down a bit, and see where it says "Use custom avatar." Below there, you can either upload an avatar from your computer, or upload one from an image-hosting site

It can take a range of time to get sorted. If you don't get sorted within a few hours, don't become impatient- it takes time for you to get sorted into your house.
No, you can only take the Sorting Test once. If you get sorted into a house you don't like, give it time. You may find yourself liking your house more than you thought! | |

You can post almost anywhere on the site. You have the ability to use a custom avatar. And, you now have a user "rank," which is the little animal name beneith your user name. You can see that mine is "abraxan" and yours is "flobberworm."
Basically, when you are a newbie, you are confined to posting in this forum. Now, you have the same privileges as other members. The only difference between a sorted member (a member who has a house name below their user name) and a regular member is that you need to be sorted to post in the site's Hogwarts RPG.
